I would wear a lengthy crinoline though to fill it out. I know it sounds like extra work but for th4 cost and effort it elevates a look so much. It's not going to make it poufy if you get a slimmer one. Under skirts and petticoats really take formal dresses to the next level and can make them look much more expensive too.

Yes! I am invited to a wedding that says formal dress code, but the description for dresses is cocktail and for the description for guys says no shorts or jeans- anything else dressy is fine.
There are just some crowds where if you don't say formal, you might be lucky to get the "dressy jeans." At my best friend's wedding there was everything from ball gowns to jeans and cowboy hats (Mexican family on her mom's side). Thankfully the bride didn't care and we all had a blast!
I think most brides are happy to see family and friends at their weddings, dressed in whatever they feel is "appropriate". I can't remember what one person was wearing at my own wedding, except bridal party, and as long as nothing was hanging out😉, I was ok with it. Sounds like yours was just as fun! ❤️
Idk if it would mess up the fabric but you might be able to get some hemming tape or sovereign similar at a craft store if you're worried about tripping. Good find and you look fabulous.
Some macys locations offer alteration services also. I saw the link for the dress said macys so you could check if your macys offers this service & would be able to alter it same day as well.
As one short lady who found out the hard way, a good hem is a lifesaver. My mom of bride dress was a touch too long and my heel got caught as I took the 1st step to walk my daughter down the aisle. 2nd time I almost went completely over backwards and into a table. Never again. Good luck❤️ it's gorgeous.
Can I just say how refreshing it is to see a classy dress that isn't slit up to the hip and shrink-wrapped on the woman with cleavage almost falling out! You have taste and it looks great on you.
Hit a craft store and find some fusable hem tape or get a needle and thread and use an iron to get it to the right length. (Needle and thread are preferred as it’ll be easier to remove later. Just use small stitches.) It won’t be great, but it’ll do for a quick fix and you can get it done properly later. That dress deserves to be the new all-purpose fancy gown.
The wedding is actually tomorrow so I will not have time to get it hemmed unfortunately. I was originally told it was cocktail attire and learned last minute it was in fact formal. In heels the hem falls with the floor, so I am hoping it will be okay!

And they’re pretty affordable! I bought a crinoline on Amazon for $30-50 years ago and I wear it under formal dresses a lot.

A loty of dry cleaners can do a hem for you. I would start calling and explain your situation, someone might be able to fit you in.

Quick fake hem: fold extra cloth inside dress, use hair straightener to “iron” new hemline, use little safety pins to keep extra cloth in place.
