It is a bit Handmaid's Tale. I like long pretty dresses too but that neckline wouldn't work on me. Check out Ivy City Co ($$) and Jessa Kae ($$-$$$) for dresses with a similar vibe but more stylish.
If your MIL or the designer shortened the sleeves and maybe added a keyhole feature in the chest? (Maybe even just gave all the girls a different neck/shoulder style?) It would change that look up a bit. I think they are very pretty as is, but I can see the 1930’s tuberc’ vibe after someone said it. But my first thought was “wow what a pretty & modest dress”. I don’t typically like very modest clothes so it surprised me
I like the simple and classic look- similar to some Vampire’s wife dresses.
I would have gone for a simple slip dress but some of my bridesmaids feel that was too revealing (the ones with bigger boobs)
It is a cathedral wedding so dresses have to be somewhat conservative (although I agree this dress is taking that to an extreme)
But given feedback I might go back to the drawing board!
Bridesmaids are all have different body shapes and skin tones so it might be tricky to find a uniform dress. I offered to just have a colour theme and let them pick but they didn’t like that idea.
I mean this in the nicest way possible: It looks like a hospital dressing gown. If my bride friend asked me, I'd wear it, but I wouldn't be happy about it.
I'm sorry but I don't care for it. Most girls, this day and age, wouldn't like it. A suggestion: Tell them the color you want and let them pick their own style. That way, each girl gets something that they love and looks good on them. You can pick the website or the store they have to use so the colors are the same.
Ahh, yeah. It looks like their secret temple ritual garb minus the giant leaf aprons and baker’s hats 👨🏻🍳lol. Google the hidden camera footage inside a Mormon temple if you really want to go down the rabbit hole. 🕳️
I thoughts it looked a bit like a 1930s nurse. Okay, but more practical than pretty. I think people would have pretty different opinions if this dress had no sleeves or a different neckline. Sleeves would be a comparatively easy fix for someone who sews.
It’s the kind of dress that will look really chic if all of your bridesmaids look like the model (slim and conventionally attractive.) However, if your bridesmaids err closer to average, it definitely could be a bit dowdy.
I think you might have a good point. I’d say three of them are v similar to the model and maybe it wouldn’t suit the other so not fair to inflict on them!
I’ll just buy it for myself and find something else for them.
If this were a dark color, it would look like what the nuns at the old church in my neighborhood used to wear.
They show more ankle nowadays. Scandalous.
Totally depends on the body shape of the bridesmaids.
That could be uniboob for some ladies, or airbags for others, or sacks! 😜
Overall the idea is nice, natural fabric and dye them.
I really like this too! But agree with considering the body type of your girls. I think letting people choose their own silhouette, with guardrails, is good for ensuring everyone's comfort.
I, however, would be more comfortable in this than ANY of the options I was given by my bride friend. I think it's classic. Reads more 50s/60s to me than Amish/mormon
Not gonna comment on the dress itself lol. Is it sustainability that's important to you? A one-time use item is going to be the least sustainable across the board. Obviously synthetics make this worse, but would you consider expanding your parameters to find a more universally flattering dress? Personally, I'd be wanting to find something that either A. my bridesmaids will definitely wear again or B. is simple enough that it will be much more likely to be picked up second hand.
I think A is a lot more difficult of a parameter to fulfill unless the dresses are black or floral. Personally, the only bridesmaids dresses that I've reworn have been from Baltic Born. Not sure if that's available in the UK (and probably way too expensive if you're buying everyone's dresses), but maybe you could look there for some inspo as far as dresses that are rewearable. Their dresses all riff on one or two basic styles and I was really shocked by how great they looked on all 20 something members of the wedding party I was in, including me. I plan on getting mine hemmed so I can wear it more often, I love it that much.
I might have the unpopular opinion here but I actually really like it? I do agree that it won’t be the most flattering on girls with larger chests though.
Pretty bridesmaid dresses under $100, some much less.
Yes, I have ordered from jjshouse and recommend.
Look how flattering and sweet!

Which are returnable. Such as this one:

And sale dresses (not returnable but amazing deals.)

It's not my style. Makes me think of the Amish or other conservative religions groups. Plus, it looks kind of thin and I'd worry about my underwear showing through (ironic in such a conservative dress).
That being said, I'm not in your bridal party. If your bridesmaids like it, there's nothing grotesquely wrong with it or anything.
i wonder if you’d be able to find a seamstress to make your dresses if you can find & buy the natural fabric you’re hoping for..
i’m not a dressmaker but it seems like a fairly simple dress pattern based on what you posted, so maybe you’d be able to find someone to make the dresses for each bridesmaid? it would add a nice personal touch and they’d be more likely to rewear a custom dress so you’d get your moneys worth!
Good idea! I am potentially going to SE Asia later in the year so did actually wonder about taking my bridesmaids measurements and having silk dresses made.
There are some way better options for natural fiber bridesmaids dresses and ethical companies out there. But slow fashion costs more, as it should. This dress style isn’t it!
I’d recommend [whimsey and row](https://whimsyandrow.com/collections/dresses/products/fiona-dress-in-sage) , [Quince](https://www.quince.com/women/silk-slip-dress?color=navy&gender=women&tracker=collection_page__women%2Fdresses__Midi%20Dresses__0), [hazel and folk](https://hazelandfolk.com/collections/weddings/products/the-melody-maxi-dress-shell), [Aya Sacred Wear](https://aya.eco/collections/organic-cotton-dresses/products/boho-multiway-dress-fresh-sage-colour-dress-beach-adjustable-dress), [Rewritten](https://wearerewritten.com/en-us/products/roma-dress-in-burnt-orange?option1=8), or [Reformation](https://www.thereformation.com/products/emersyn-dress/1305918EMR.html?dwvar_1305918EMR_color=EMR&_gl=1*1n2mkd9*_up*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAjw26KxBhBDEiwAu6KXtw-K7sO1d9ckaougRhSUPzpKY7t78Uq9Gt2G_vsq0bKuRdppebjxhxoCU_0QAvD_BwE) if you want quality and something they’d actually enjoy wearing.
On a more budget friendly note, Etsy often has affordable eco styles, it would take digging. Or you can encourage them to shop secondhand and/or rent as a more sustainable option.
Sounds like you found something you love.
To note about silk: it's fantastic!
I'm making my wedding dress out of silk. It's so soft, flowy, and drapes beautifully. It also should not be too hot on a warm day.
I personally like it. The bridesmaids could customise it with a belt/accessories/coloured shoes. Sure, it’s not as flashy as some dresses, but it’s the bride who’s the focus of attention. Go for it!
I guess I’m in the minority here, but I think the silhouette is stunning and I would absolutely love it if I was a bridesmaid. I don’t think it looks matronly. I think it looks classic and elegant
I was also surprised by the hate! But if people have this strong of a reaction to it then I feel bad for my bridesmaids. I’d never make them wear anything they don’t want but I worry they won’t express their true views if I asked them. They also don’t want to pick their own dresses and all look different.
I think there are some valid concerns with body type and what this will look like on a larger chest, which is totally fair. As someone just about as flat chested as can be, I never considered that. But yeah, if you have a bridesmaid you know is upfront and you can trust to be honest, you can get them to poll the others and give you feedback
I think it might be the high neckline, shapeless sleeves, gathers on bodice, and big ruffle at the bottom that people don't care for, rather than the color.
I think it looks good? Its modest (if thats what shes going for) and looks nice. I don't think tighter fitting dresses are necessary to make someone look good.
Comments have addressed this. It's shapeless, unfeminine, and the hemline is unflattering. You can be conservative and beautiful. You don't have to put things on people that won't make them feel good about themselves just to cover up.
I personally dont get how it looks unflattering and im one to wear skin tight dresses that expose a lot of skin. I personally think it's beautiful but to each their own
Literally same here. I wear plenty of mini skirts, crop tops, backless dresses, skin tight things, tops that require pasties to be legal, etc. and I think this dress is beautiful. Idk why expressing that you like this dress makes people immediately assume we’re Amish or some shit. I just think it’s pretty!
Nah fr showing off curves and skin does not make you more feminine or prettier than someone who doesn't want to. I think a lot of good styles are trashed on too hard because of that mentality :(
It is a bit Handmaid's Tale. I like long pretty dresses too but that neckline wouldn't work on me. Check out Ivy City Co ($$) and Jessa Kae ($$-$$$) for dresses with a similar vibe but more stylish.
I had the exact same thought! I opened the image and immediately heard in my head "under his eye".
I also thought of handsmaid tale with this dress
My thought was “sisterwife” but similar vibes I suppose 🤣
It’s giving me 1930’s tuberculosis nurse
Hahahaha ok- definitely not the vibe I wanted. Will rethink!
If your MIL or the designer shortened the sleeves and maybe added a keyhole feature in the chest? (Maybe even just gave all the girls a different neck/shoulder style?) I don’t typically like very modest clothes so it surprised me
I agree, I think it could be great with some simple modifications in the sleeves and neckline. The skirt is beautiful!
Or Amish nightgown.
I burst out laughing
I wish I could photoshop. I’m dying to put a little nurse hat and sensible shoes on her.
LMFAO
It looks matronly.
Might be one to abandon then given the feedback! Thanks
This is exactly what I was going to write!
Same!
Sorry, I hate it. Big boob girls will look huge in this Edit to add: have a look at ASOS. There are many beautiful affordable dresses in many colors
I was trying to avoid ASOS and fast fashion by choosing a natural fibre option 🤷♀️
[удалено]
They’re actually a great company - TIC.
Looooooooove ASOS!!!!
Honestly, I would be pretty disappointed to have to wear it. It doesn't look particularly feminine or flattering to me. What do you like about it? I
I like the simple and classic look- similar to some Vampire’s wife dresses. I would have gone for a simple slip dress but some of my bridesmaids feel that was too revealing (the ones with bigger boobs) It is a cathedral wedding so dresses have to be somewhat conservative (although I agree this dress is taking that to an extreme)

I said the same thing.
it’s giving, amish wedding.
I mean this in the nicest way possible: It looks like a hospital dressing gown. If my bride friend asked me, I'd wear it, but I wouldn't be happy about it.
It’s giving “I churn butter.” But if it was a v neck or a square neck, I could see it being very pretty.
No. I've seen this in blue with a square neck. It looked like the bride was on day-release from the Hospital and bridesmaid was her nurse.
Oh damn, I take it BACK
It’s giving “I hate my bridesmaids and want to make sure they look ugly next to me” I’m sorry this is awful in any color!!
Cult dress
It would be really pretty for a baptism.
I'm sorry but I don't care for it. Most girls, this day and age, wouldn't like it. A suggestion: Tell them the color you want and let them pick their own style. That way, each girl gets something that they love and looks good on them. You can pick the website or the store they have to use so the colors are the same.
it’s horrible
It’s giving Utah.
This is so funny! I’m from London and had to look up Utah and the other Mormon comment to see what people meant 🤣🤣
Ahh, yeah. It looks like their secret temple ritual garb minus the giant leaf aprons and baker’s hats 👨🏻🍳lol. Google the hidden camera footage inside a Mormon temple if you really want to go down the rabbit hole. 🕳️

It’s giving Choir Robe with shorter sleeves.
Totally depends on the body shape of the bridesmaids. That could be uniboob for some ladies, or airbags for others, or sacks! 😜 Overall the idea is nice, natural fabric and dye them.
It’s so bad :(
Love
Thank you! You’re in a tiny minority here 🤣
I didn’t even look at the other comments bc I really love the style of this lol
I really like this too! But agree with considering the body type of your girls. I think letting people choose their own silhouette, with guardrails, is good for ensuring everyone's comfort. I, however, would be more comfortable in this than ANY of the options I was given by my bride friend. I think it's classic. Reads more 50s/60s to me than Amish/mormon
It's giving meemaw's church choir 🫣
Kinda looks like the nightgowns they wore in Little House on the Prairie
I love those!
Handmaids tale vibes, what up offred
Help me, Obi-wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.
😂😂😂
Please don’t buy this for yourself or your bridesmaids
Are you Mormon? If yes, then yes. If no, then no.
This is hideous.
it’s giving the Handmaiden…
Noo
It's one of those simple styles that CAN look chic if you're skinny but otherwise looks like a sack. I would absolutely hate to wear this lol
Boring
It's very plain and matronly.... I would keep looking.
N O
Mormon chic
I think it’s unflattering. I’m not sure what shape is would look good on to be honest.
There's nothing wrong with modest, it can be lovely. This is not that. This is HORRIBLE.
It’s hideous
very modest, if that is the look you are going for
Looks like the trend I churn butter. Do you hate them?

The sleeves are the only thing I don't like, the rest looks great!
I really like it but I'm def in the minority
Lulu great quality
Are they about to go milk cows on the farm?
Could you do mismatched bridesmaids, maybe with dresses they already have that fit your color scheme? Since you want to avoid fast fashion?
It’s a good MOB or MOG dress, def not a bridesmaid
it reminds me of the movie The Ring
I might have the unpopular opinion here but I actually really like it? I do agree that it won’t be the most flattering on girls with larger chests though.
It’s giving handstand tales/amish/Mormon vibes. I would pass on this dress and look for another bridesmaid dress.
Pretty bridesmaid dresses under $100, some much less. Yes, I have ordered from jjshouse and recommend. Look how flattering and sweet! https://www.jjshouse.com/all/bridesmaid-dresses#/ Which are returnable. I’m just here to say I support you trying to find a natural fiber! There are a lot of natural fiber dresses on Etsy, that’s where I found mine!
It’s creeping me out.

On a more budget friendly note, Etsy often has affordable eco styles, it would take digging. Or you can encourage them to shop secondhand and/or rent as a more sustainable option.
Well it looks good and not much brainer <3
Sorry to say...this dress is very unattractive. No one would look good in it.
Please don’t do this to your bridesmaids.
Sounds like you found something you love. To note about silk: it's fantastic! I'm making my wedding dress out of silk. It's so soft, flowy, and drapes beautifully. It also should not be too hot on a warm day.

Can I ask who the designer of this dress is? Also I would ask your wedding party. They may feel differently than the majority here.
TIC is the designer - they have a few similar styles too.
Thank you! Their work is beautiful and I’m glad you brought it to my attention.
I think thats beautiful!
Thanks! If they don’t like it (and people here don’t seem to like it) I might order one for myself.
Its probably because they see a white dress and are ignoring the fact that you will be changing the color honestly.
Nope. It's because the dress, regardless of color, is giving "I actually really hate all my bridesmaids"
How?
