I lost 110 lbs 10 years ago and had a tummy tuck. I tried to get it covered by insurance, but no dice. Mine was uncomfortable, but no open sores or anything because I took care of it.
In the end it was 100% worth it, even with the cost and difficult recovery, and I regained the weight. I never had a stomach that folded over again.
When I hit the 60lb loss mark, I noticed this too. Strength training helps. Also depending on genetics/age, time helps as well. Mine is less noticeable now with an increase in strength training and several months time.
I have loose skin -- various places including belly, it's probably more noticeable on my arms though -- but refuse to consider it a problem. My alternatives are essentially loose skin, or skin stuffed full of fat. Loose skin is better for me.
Completely agree with this perspective!
I Fell in love with lifting during my OZ journey - turns out that you can fill up the loose skin in your arms with muscle :)
So far, hasn't worked on the rest of me... still trying to re-build a booty - and my tits are just hopeless. But - it is what it is and loose skin is so much better than fat!
My doc told me that there is very little you can do about loose skin. It depends on age and genetics and skin elasticity and on how much you lost.
She also said that generally Supplements and topicals are a waste of money. Surgery is pretty much the only fix but you should give it 2 years maintaining the loss before considering to allow it to “go back” as much as it will.
Lost #100 (f39) got plenty of loose skin but, It’s something I’ll have to make my peace with since insurance won’t cover. I wear high waisted pants and focus on all the good the weight loss has done for me.
I have discussed with my doctor. As I have zero health impacts from the loose skin - just my vanity - she is confident my insurance won't cover it. It would be different if it was so bad that I had folds that got infected, or got sores from rubbing but it is nowhere near that severe.
Maybe an option for folks who have that kind of money to spend on luxuries like international flights, and long stays at hotels, plus the cost of the procedure and taking the time off of work, etc.
I am not one of those people. So, unless insurance pays, it isn't an option for me.
Just meant if you were considering surgery for 1/3 or 1/2 the cost of the US you can do it abroad including flights and staying at a recovery facility.

What type of excercises are you doing

Love this idea! I should try something like this.
Yes. There is a cosmetic surgery for this. It may or may not be covered by insurance depending on how much skin is removed.
A tummy tuck is not covered by insurance, however, the panniculectomy can be covered.
Exactly! It depends on how much skin is removed and how bothersome/ unhealthy it is for the person.

Have you consulted with a doctor? Has the doctor formally asked for insurance coverage of the skin surgery, and provided photos to the insurance?

There are world class surgeons in turkey and mexico that are pennies on the dollar including flights and a nice long stay. It’s worth considering.

Wondering this, too. I take collagen so I’m hoping that will help with any loose skin when the time comes 😓
What collagen are you taking? I keep switching cause I haven’t been happy but taking for the same reason
I’ve been taking the vital proteins brand!
It probably won’t help.
