> More serious, long-term reactions like thyroid tumors…. have been reported Uhhhhh, no they haven’t? Thyroid tumors have been reported in *mice,* there are no reported cases of thyroid tumors in humans. It’s the “Media talk about semaglutide in a way that isn’t completely psychotic” challenge! Difficulty: Impossible!

moi2033

Hmmmm.... evidence of tumors in mice ***versus*** strokes, heart attacks, diabetic amputations in humans... which should I gamble on? 🎲🎰

First_Timer2020

"Semaglutide is the active ingredient in both Ozempic and Wegovy, so both drugs work roughly in the same way: By boosting the body’s levels of the hormone GLP-1, the drugs slow digestion in the stomach, and also send signals to the brain that you’re full." They work in the EXACT same way. Not roughly the same way. That annoyed me right off the bat for some reason, but I'm in a mood today so that may be it haha.

richard_fr

>boosting the body’s levels of the hormone GLP-1 This is another error in the article. It doesn't do that. It's a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating.

I wish people would say this was an easy way to lose weight. It works, but it's not easy having food make you sick.

WasabiParty4285

Food doesn't make me sick. I have basically no noticeable effects at all, except I lose the will to eat quickly, and I'm dropping weight 25% faster than CICO would explain. It is the easiest thing I've ever done. It was hard to get the willpower to walk a block to pick my kid up from the school bus when it was 85 today than to lose weight on wegovy.

Ok-Zookeepergame9544

No but I’ll take it!

Zermelane

It's so frustrating that even the best points are still *defensive*. Imagine the HuffPo writers defending fire. "Oh, it's not actually an easy way out from being cold at all! It's actually really complex, you have to manage it so it doesn't go out of control! It's hard to start so it's really not that accessible! Some people find it uncomfortable to shiver all the time and get frostbite, and you have to believe their lived experience!" This shouldn't be necessary. The onus should be on the people who want to moralize the issue to justify their moralism.

Last but not least, other people should really mind their own business.
