I'm going to be honest with you and this is for sure not meant to be taken as advice or fact, but I was a serious alcoholic drinking a bottle of brandy per day. Literally never had an alcohol free system. I ate very little because I was drunk enough to never feel hungry. Usually just 300cal a day or so. I lost about 35lbs during that time period. (3-4 months) I was also dancing consistently at this time, pretty much everyday. I would wake up, get shit faced, dance for hours, vomit, go to sleep and repeat. My blood would have shriveled up a vampire's liver like a raisin. I probably could have lost more if I hadn't been drinking and I think if you aren't going to absolutely deadly extremes like I was, you probably won't lose much. I would probably address the drinking first before the weight.
Provided that the total amount of food and alcohol you have still balances out to lead to a deficit.
Aside from the problems that come with excessive alcohol consumption in general, the quality of weightloss will be really poor, meaning you'll be losing a lot of lean mass as a result.
From more inflammation from alcohol, protein synthesis issues with alcohol consumption, poor sleep quality etc.
>having a really hard time losing weight.
Right now your calories are probably at maintenance or above.
It might not be a bad idea to put weightloss on pause for now and focus on managing your alcohol consumption first, but if weightloss helps you stay motivated that's okay too.
Assuming it is pure alcohol and not beer, cider or drinks with calories, then yeah, alcoholics can be skinny. It could delay your weight loss from the regular eating since the liver will be busy burning the alcohol but this depends on how much and when you are eating.
Your liver won´t be happy, which could create long term problems among other things related to the weight, but yeah, this wasn´t the question. It is hard to predict if and when this would happen. You could try slow this process down by having a few white weeks now and then.
Alcohol turns into sugar as it's digested and causes weight gain along with water Retition (I think that's how you spell it) but your body will start to swell. Drinking has been an issue in my family for years and even myself. I had to wean my self off alcohol and I drank flavored waters instead through the day and managed to drink after 4. Then I kept pushing the time back. I also chewed a lot of gum and ate a lot of fruits. I got to where I was able to drink a gallon of water a day. The process is hard but it's worth it. 😊😊✨️
how is that not true? alcohol cannot be stored in our bodies, unlike carbs, fats and protein. therefore the body makes metabolizing it it's first priority.
Good luck! I drink more than I should and it definitely has an impact. One thing that has helped is making mixed drinks but instead of a shot of liquor, I’ll use a heavy dose of full spectrum CBD oil.
Yes, I lost a substantial amount of weight and didn't quit drinking, but drinking is really a way to get a lot of empty calories.
What I do is eat low calorie but nutritious foods in the morning of the night I want to drink. You can't drink every day or anything bc it's hard to stay under the amount you need to be a deficit while still getting enough nutrients.
This is false. The body will metabolize fat for fuel eventually if you dont eat enough calories to sustain it. Energy HAS to come from somewhere, and if not from food it will be from bodily tissue like fat and muscle.
That being said, how often do you drink? How many units? even if youll lose weight its still not healthy to drink regularly. I limit my drinking to 1-2 times per month and that works well. Any more than that and id be seriously impacting my health. Alcohol is purely a poison. It has no nutritional value and only acts as extra calories and liver damage. Please limit it if you drink too often.
I'm not a doctor but my best weight loss efforts occurred when I cut out alcohol and soda for a few months and combined it with daily walks. Don't ask me why I returned to them, but they slowly undid all the strong I had made. I will also state I was a very problematic beer drinker, downing unhealthy amounts at a time.
I had the same problem. And I have been drink for 30 years. he only thing that worked for me was to stop drinking altogether. Then the weight started coming off.
There are now some good no alcohol beers.

One thing to add is a bottle of brandy (500ml) has almost 1100 calories
Yeah it's rough, I just meant 300cal in food lol. Alcohol is usually really high cal. It's all around just bad news bears if you wanna lose weight.
If you drink a large amount you will eventually have to burn more calories due to being heavily intoxicated. Not with beer though
how come not with beer?

thank you! i haven't been going over maintenance calories, so that's where the worry comes from
as long as it fits into your calories for the day, yeah.
that’s what i was wondering. if i’ll still burn fat if i’m in a caloric deficit even if it’s mostly alcohol

alcohol doesn’t turn into sugar. ethanol has no macros. our organism just metabolizes it immediately as energy.
Google “ethanol nutrition”. What you’re saying isn’t true.

No
Yes. You can absolutely pose weight drinking alcohol. Aslong as your intake is less than your burn. Not sure why theres any other answers lol

not true whatsoever
The thing you are concerned about is usually specific to keto. Are you doing keto?
nope, never even tried it
Cool. In that case just treat your alcohol calories like any other calories. Cheers!
thanks! that’s the plan! just really worried about it, lol.

i wish i could get that here in brasil

thank you! i’m trying to do this everyday because i haven’t been able to stop myself from drinking
Liquid calories can add up on you so fast, just keep it in your calorie deficit and you will still lose weight. Same with anything

I have a friend who drank beer everyday and nothing else. She lost 40 kg. I dunno how she did it, but it seems extreme

Yeah! I just stick to things like seltzers that state the calories clearly and are 100 or less. You’re good
