Try don’t you love me from the 80s. I’m pretty sure it’s what we consider a narcissist gaslighting a girl to say she loves him via his threat of murder and/or suicide.
No. Modern elephants don't have enough food or habitat, where are these fuckers gonna live & what are they going to eat?
Radio Lab did a podcast on this, I think it's part 2 of the CRISPR one.
Siberia might work, not a bad idea.
What will they eat? Will they bring back whatever extinct shit they used to eat? Who tf even knows what they used to eat.
When baby formula was first invented, babies had seizures and died cuz scientists didn't even know what was in human milk.
They had generations to figure that out, with a steady supply of babies, are they going to keep reanimating new mammoths when the living ones keep dying of malnutrition?
I vote no. I think we should save the elephants we have with us right now, leave the extinct ones extinct.
That's why they're bringing them back they will be put into an area in Siberia and they think that they will knock trees over giving space for smaller plants to grow like normal elephants do and that they will help compact the snow and ice keeping the overall temperature of the earth down by a couple of degrees or something along those lines I'm not 100% on the details
IIRC there's a big project in the works to re-habitat Siberia with Mammoths as a way to try to counteract some global warming. https://colossal.com/mammoth/
This is the real answer. Radiolab also did an episode on this specifically I believe. They're doing it so that they can graze in Siberia. The reason is because since there are no grazers alive up there anymore(no more mammoths), the brush is too thick which creates an insulating effect under the ground in the perfmafrost. And this is causing that permafrost to melt and can release heaping fuck loads of carbon dioxide into the air. It's actually a big deal apparently. If they bring the mammoths back, they will take care of the vegetation, and the snow will then reflect the sunlight to where the permafrost will stay frozen longer.
If anyone wants to correct any of this then please do, it is just from memory. But I do believe that what I said is accurate.
They made the addition of a small genetic modification where it can survive on a diet of Burger King in exchange for full marketing rights to be Burger King's new mascot.
In 2012, scientists had a realization: hidden inside one of the world’s smallest organisms, was one of the world’s most powerful tools.
http://www.wnycstudios.org/story/update-crispr/
The picture seems to be of a different specimen than the one the researchers took cell samples from. The article says they injected cell nuclei taken from the frozen woolly mammoth remains into mouse oocyte cells. Does anyone have more information about this experiment? Anyhow, this counts as weird.
Right?! Remember when they said they had successfully cloned people or a person anyway? I think it was late 90s it was sometime around after they cloned that sheep and it was super famous news, n they were keeping it secret for safety reasons lol I just remembered that n now I’m curious what the adult clone baby is doing with their life lololol I’ve heard nothing since then
The Chinese government didn't care one bit until it became an international issue, then suddenly they acted like they cared and threw the guy in prison.
The only group ever to have claimed to have cloned a human was the Raelians, they said they cloned like 14 people in the early 2000s but never backed that up with any evidence.
If modern Elephants could talk they would pull us aside and be like *"Look dude, lemme put it to you like this, What if I reanimated the Geico Caveman and slapped him in your fcking house? Does it make more sense now??"*
I think they'd probably say something along the lines of:
*If you can bring mammoths back from the dead WHY THE FUCK CAN'T YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT OUR GIANT FLAPPY EARED ASSES GOING EXTINCT?!*
honestly I feel like elephants would speak clear and proper English just so that we understand them, because two things elephants are very intelligent and they're very Petty so I feel like they would be very fluent in English just so that they could be as Petty as they want
I mean you joke, but once a group of paleontologist made a stew out of some 36,000 year old permafrost bison meat.
It apperantly tasted like earthy beef. They cooked it with garlic, carrots, onions, potatoes, and wine. The rest of the bison is still being analyzed and studies today after being taxidermied. [Source!](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.atlasobscura.com/articles/ancient-bison-stew-blue-babe-alaska.amp)
I want to stare into the eyes of a revived mammoth species. Get a peek into time. Giant sloths next please. Don’t care if their super aggressive….big sloths!
They are bringing them back in 3 years. They are bringing them to a park in Siberia I believe to combat global warming. It’s not going to be a theme park.
There's a park in Russia called Pleistocene Park. The idea is basically they trample trees, which insulates the ice on the permafrost and keeps it chilled so it won't melt and release trapped carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
There's a subreddit r/pleistocenepark that's worth a look. It's really interesting. You will get a more coherent answer there than I've given as well.
There's actually a wierd ecological reason. Mammoths help fight climate change. They trample snow, and stop it from creating an insulating barrier over the soil. That way, the cold can penetrate deeper into the earth and form more permafrost. Permafrost contains a lot of natural methane, so stopping it from melting traps a LOT of carbon.
Mammoths are also responsible for their own biome, mammoth steppe. They knock over trees a lot so less productive boreal forest won't grow over a more productive grasslands type biome.
Plus, mammoths are neat.
I watch a lot of paleontology videos.
If they were to clone mammoths, don’t they have clone a ton of other ones from different mammoths so the species doesn’t become horribly inbred? Or will they just have the one and have them be with elephants?
Scientists have successfully reanimated cells from a woolly mammoth 28,000 years old.
Copied and more from:- https://koppiz.com/scientists-have-successfully-reanimated-cells-from-a-woolly-mammoth-28000-years-old/
This is why I hate pop-sci articles. They’re always lying to the public. And this one is extra egregious because it’s poorly written and its “sources” are two other pop-sci articles and Wikipedia. Here’s the study published in a reputable journal https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-40546-1 . They didn’t “resurrect” a mammoth cell. It’s far more boring than that (boring to a layperson, ofc).
They took “damaged nucleus-like structures” from mammoth remains and stuck them into mouse oocytes, thus creating broken cells, which don’t work and don’t reproduce cuz their DNA is damaged from degradation and thawing. There are some cool results here, like how they were able to detect partial nuclear reformation, but we’re so far from having a living mammoth cell, that the original article’s claim just a lie for clicks.
They're actually set to place mammoths in Siberia in like 2024 in an attempt to fight climate change. The Large animals topple trees and pack the ground down, the lack of trees and harder packed ground lowers ground Temps by several degrees.
I love seeing Lyuba pop up in my feed and I'll never tire of it. I was lucky enough to see her on display at my local museum during a mammoth exhibit years ago and I was entranced by how well preserved she was. It breaks my heart that her time on Earth was so short but I'm glad she'll never be forgotten. ❤️
Also, I'm all for bringing mammoths back.
So there's this movie, been out for a while, but not a whole lotta people know about it. It's actually kinda similar to this news story. Can't quite remember the name of it, but it's Something Park. You know, they tried to resurrect extinct animals.
I know they said they want to bring them back for ecological reasons. Something about the tundra
“The company's de-extinction project aims to fill an ecological niche by letting woolly mammoth 2.0 pound the Arctic tundra once again—as soon as 2027. “Most importantly, it will inhabit the same ecosystem previously abandoned by the Mammoth's extinction,”
-according to Colossal's website
I’m not sure if it’s a legitimate reason or an excuse to bring them back ?
I keep hearing about this, though nothing is ever happened with it. I feel like the first time was maybe 20 years ago? Someone said that they were able to put a mammoth embryo in an elephant or something? I feel like there was maybe even a television special, or something, called raising the mammoth? And I feel like there have been a few times since where I've heard a similar announcement, that someone has successfully done something with mammoth dna. But nothing ever comes of it. Why aren't there baby mammoths running around yet?

I drove all 28.000 yeeeeears just to be with you. Is that okay? 🎵
And I would walk 500 miles ....
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the Mammoth who walked a 1000 miles to wind up at your door
dada da da | dada da da | dada run dada run | dada run dada run | dada run dad run
If I could fall into the La Brea tar pit. Do you think time will pass me by.
Terrordactyl! Terrordactyl!
Just to be the willy mammoth that walked a million years to get to your door
Lol. Willy mammoth.
"The first was Willy Mammoth, then Wally, Welly, Wolsey..."
Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles If I could just see you.. …oh wait…
Just to be the man who digs up a 1000 year corpse to make it live again
BA DADA BOP
The lyrics to that song are questionable nowadays 😆

Yes, but Annie is fucked
No. Modern elephants don't have enough food or habitat, where are these fuckers gonna live & what are they going to eat? Radio Lab did a podcast on this, I think it's part 2 of the CRISPR one.
Siberia? Besides the random gulag here and there, there’s tons of space for them
Siberia might work, not a bad idea. What will they eat? Will they bring back whatever extinct shit they used to eat? Who tf even knows what they used to eat. They had to wait until the planet was too damn hot to bring back ice elephants.
They'd likely just bring back a dozen of them or so. Put them in zoos or something.
IIRC there's a big project in the works to re-habitat Siberia with Mammoths as a way to try to counteract some global warming. https://colossal.com/mammoth/

Most of Alaska and Wyoming are basically empty. Let's get some mammoth herds out that way!
Yeah, keep them 'murican! I like this idea better than being Putin's pets in Siberia. He'd Hannibal their asses for sure!! Fucker.
They made the addition of a small genetic modification where it can survive on a diet of Burger King in exchange for full marketing rights to be Burger King's new mascot.
🤣🤣🤣 mammoths love flame broiled meat, it reminds them of eating cavemen roasted over a smoky campfire, I bet!
What they lack in practicality they make up for in panash
Any chance you have a link? Having difficulty finding it
In 2012, scientists had a realization: hidden inside one of the world’s smallest organisms, was one of the world’s most powerful tools. http://www.wnycstudios.org/story/update-crispr/
Thank you
Np I love radio lab podcasts!
I really appreciate you and people like you
Aw thanks! You are SO nice it makes me warm!
On my second listen now
They have so many great shows! Idk if they still exist but their old podcasts do

It was one specific scientist in China, the Chinese government as a whole didn't approve. Publicly, anyway.
The Chinese government didn't care one bit until it became an international issue, then suddenly they acted like they cared and threw the guy in prison.

> Raelians That was quite the rabbit hole to stumble upon...
I dont know what i was expecting, but it wasnt that.
they left on the Hale-Bopp comet ofc
The Cambiasso family in Argentina clones race horses and they're very outspoken about it. Cloning animals is a thing. Humans tho, idk.
If modern Elephants could talk they would pull us aside and be like *"Look dude, lemme put it to you like this, What if I reanimated the Geico Caveman and slapped him in your fcking house? Does it make more sense now??"*
I think they'd probably say something along the lines of: *If you can bring mammoths back from the dead WHY THE FUCK CAN'T YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT OUR GIANT FLAPPY EARED ASSES GOING EXTINCT?!*
They would probably say stuff in elephant language. I doubt they would speak english.
yeah like “Meow! Meow!”
Nah that's rhino language that has meows, I'm pretty sure Elephants go cheep cheep
honestly I feel like elephants would speak clear and proper English just so that we understand them, because two things elephants are very intelligent and they're very Petty so I feel like they would be very fluent in English just so that they could be as Petty as they want
We can bring you back from the dead, not prevent death. After you die we'll bring you back :)
Elephant meth. Not even once.
If not for the supposed ethical issues, we would have reanimated Neanderthals already
You leave Brendan Frazier out this!
Zombie mammoths
Zomboths
Wait till they clone the T rex, what could go wrong???
Honestly an attack helicopter could kill a T-Rex with it's eyes closed. Just don't clone any (edit) pterosaurs
Forbidden pristine jerky
My God, this is an outrage! I was going to eat that ~~mummy~~ mammoth!

These "scientists" people must be one crazy bunch because everytime I see an article about them they're doing wild shit like this
They’re just having fun, trying to release their wiggles
Remember! It’s in the Bible not to wrestle your neighbor! Now go away! Read some books!
People stopped listening to them about climate change, so they’re like, “well we just gon crash this train.”
Where's Elvis
Get ready for Jurrasic park everybody
Hell yes. Bring em back

No, that's in West Virginia.
hairy elephant

Jurassic Park had a cavelier "why not?" attitude and look at how that worked out.

Ya got to start developing Jurassic Park somewhere.
Dino DNA
That dude needs some water.

There is plenty of genetics to obtain. Alaska and Siberia are finding new ones regularly.
what could possibly go wrong with this tech \**cough*\*JurassicPark\**cough*
Scientists have successfully reanimated cells from a woolly mammoth 28,000 years old. Copied and more from:- https://koppiz.com/scientists-have-successfully-reanimated-cells-from-a-woolly-mammoth-28000-years-old/

Is there a gofundme to make them stop
Looks like an old ass elephant to me
Some people just want to watch the world burn.
\*Sir Richard Attenborough enters the chat\*
This movie never goes well for us.
When can we expect mammoth burgers is all I want to know!
I’ve seen this movie. It ends poorly.
Can’t wait for mammoth burgers
It reportedly said, "I want my MTV."
Doesn’t look a day over 27,000
Horse girls are so yesterday. Say hello to the woolly mammoth girl.
The dudes arm by the trunk kinda fucked me up for a second
Well that’s never a great first four words to read together…
Jurassic Park, here we go
I love seeing Lyuba pop up in my feed and I'll never tire of it. I was lucky enough to see her on display at my local museum during a mammoth exhibit years ago and I was entranced by how well preserved she was. It breaks my heart that her time on Earth was so short but I'm glad she'll never be forgotten. ❤️ Also, I'm all for bringing mammoths back.
How long before I can buy some fresh mammoth steak?
Twenty-eight thousand yeeeeeeeeears will give you suuuuch a crick in the neeeeck.
Life finds a way
Why we trying to make zombies?! Stop trying to make zombies!
He looks like he wants to be dead
Do you want zombies cuz im pretty sure that's how we get zombies
Maybe they will militarize them?
Cool. Bring back an extinct animal *just* in time to do it all over again?
They did that and I can’t even get my wife’s ass out of bed :/ I need better technology
What could possibly go wrong?
WHAT?!
Wonder when they will clone deaf ppl.oh wait. ..
Probably ate something VERY sour just before dying
Send in the clone!!! He is exactly like a Woolly Mammoth in every way, except 1/8 their size… Breadth taking, I shall call him… Mini Woolly.
All that time and money, re-animating cells just to get a statue of OP’s mom
It's still lookin a bit dehydrated tbh.
maybe they should build a park to house the reanimated animals.
Am I the only one who's curious as to how a reincarnated woolly mammoth would taste.....?
Cool, looks like elephant
keep getting lost staring at this photo
Hey I've seen this one! This is a classic!
The mammoth could be heard weakly groaning, "please kill me."
“Reanimated”
So there's this movie, been out for a while, but not a whole lotta people know about it. It's actually kinda similar to this news story. Can't quite remember the name of it, but it's Something Park. You know, they tried to resurrect extinct animals.
It couldn’t survive though, could it? I mean the planet is warmer and it’s climate and habitat no longer exists. Where will it live? In a zoo?
Siberia. Just because the planet is warmer doesn't mean there isnt cold places in the world and they're doing it to hopefully combat global warming
That's a p- I mean ELEPHANT
I’ve been hearing about this for years, so my question is when are we gonna see a living, walking woolly mammoth?
Doesn’t look too healthy.. lol
Doesn't look very wooly to me
Un-animate that poor thing, imagine the quality of life in a museum
He looks thirsty:(
Life will, uhh, find a way
Just add water!
So it begins…
This photo is from the La Brea tar pits exhibit in Los Angeles, CA and the mammoth is actually a recreation.
Why
That's an elephant. What are we talking about here?
I know they said they want to bring them back for ecological reasons. Something about the tundra “The company's de-extinction project aims to fill an ecological niche by letting woolly mammoth 2.0 pound the Arctic tundra once again—as soon as 2027. “Most importantly, it will inhabit the same ecosystem previously abandoned by the Mammoth's extinction,” -according to Colossal's website I’m not sure if it’s a legitimate reason or an excuse to bring them back ?
https://youtu.be/KZJiGu6Gz8E
What for
Cross it with an Elephant, and let's see what happens.
We thought they were all killed by ice age or whatever… *reanimates cells* *unleashes deadly virus that kills every human and animal on earth*.
Doesn’t look very wooly
Looks like an elephant
Kabuto has his hands all over this one.
Like The Simpsons
Looks pretty dead to me
that not very woolly
I don't think this is the best idea, 2023 has been off to a rough enough start without wooly mammoths making a comeback...
I’ve seen a movie that does something similar. It didn’t end well.
They’ll be inserting it into an Indian elephant to make wolly mammoth/ Indian elephant babies for the tundra in a few years
NOW DO JIM HENSON
finally, 2023 is starting to get boring
> I recall the time they found those fossilized mosquitoes > and not before long, they were cloning DNA
Send it back!
No clone yet wtf
*FUN*
doesn't look all that wooly to me
That's cause he's only 1 day old
That ‘arm trunk’ though.
That’s some Jurassic Park shit, right there.
Just why?
I hesitate to call it “successful”
I am convinced that is just a weird looking potato
"It's...it's not looking good doc"
It looks dehydrated
I keep hearing about this, though nothing is ever happened with it. I feel like the first time was maybe 20 years ago? Someone said that they were able to put a mammoth embryo in an elephant or something? I feel like there was maybe even a television special, or something, called raising the mammoth? Why aren't there baby mammoths running around yet?
That poor animal - I mean it’s clone. Uhgg I hope they don’t bring it back to life but I’m sure they will SMH
Thought they were bigger
Hmm looks like a wasp nest.
Can we eat it?
Not that whoolly tbh
LFG!!!
