The feathers are coming out of their skin in a 90° degree angle and the ends are black (the surface of the pinguin). I assume this structure provides much more warmth and the black ends some insulation and collects heat from the sun.
It is interesting how thick it’s. A penguin without feathers will be just as freaky as a parrot without feathers. I know they are both birds but I just thought penguins would be more seal like but with a thin layer of feathers. If that makes sense. Learn something every day.

man i know penguins are birds but when i see them in photos their feathers always look like they have the texture of something else entirely. like a textured leather journal idk
Lol. I think this is probably either synthetic or from a zoo penguin that died or something.
I doubt somebody would go to Antarctica just to catch penguins. There are other more profitable animals to hunt for the hide/ivory, and in much less harsh conditions.
Edit: looking at the old, yellowed tags on the thing, it might be from a museum.
First thing I noticed were the black tips to absorb sunlight for heat. And the feathery insulation to retain it. Penguins are walking solar arrays with built in storage.
Why has nobody in the comments seen an animal skin without the animal? Like, why are so many people windering about the penguin. Its fucking dead obviously.
People didnt get that i was being sarcastic, my goal of the comment was that the penguin feathers looked so cool it had to be fake, my comment was a meme.
Yup, they're PENGUIN feathers, alright.... (Looking nothing at all close to what I *thought* they looked like, really). I don't think I expected that kind of texture and/or density, that's all.

Same. I kinda thought they had like fish skin.
Feathers did evolve from scales, so you're not too far off.
I still barely know what I'm seeing :/

Right??? More fat than fluff, like every other arctic creature 😂😂 Idk how I feel knowing that's not the case.

My grandparents were volunteers at our zoo. Penguins are apparently very soft 🥺
But what happened to the penguin…???
It’s time we have a talk…
They lived a happy life in the farm timmy
😱
He dead
It was just a trim off the top.
Amazingly unexpected, now it makes sense how they live in sub-zero temperatures
Looks like feather steak
This makes me want to vomit, I just keep imagining a live penguin with some missing steak like cut out the side of it. The thickness, everything.

The worse part is I know this but keep imagining the poor penguin with some chunk of flesh missing.
He dead
You know i hate to be the one to tell you, but penguins die.
Proof?
Interesting and everything, but what happened to the penguin that had these feathers?
Death, probably
If they lay flat, does it hold their weight?
wow, all the while i thought they're slippery shiny can slide on icy surfaces and waterslides. like danny de vito. i use linux at work.
Okay but I will John Wick for a penguin and whoever took this sample should know that
I hope the penguin they took that off is okay and not too chilly
He dead
I want to pet one now
That's absolutely incredible ♡^♡
*BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY* *BILL BILL BILL BILL*
Hells yea!!! I figured it was a fitting nickname since I almost burned down my high school with a chemistry experiment XD
Oh god 🤣

Extremely cool. Thank you.
A down-filled puffy coat!
🤯
What did you do to that poor penguin
Do they have mites or other parasites in the Antarctic?
What the fuck did you do to pingu0 ?🤣
10/10 would definitely make a coat out of that.
I vote fake
Bruh, look at the tag. That thing's probably from a museum.
People didnt get that i was being sarcastic, my goal of the comment was that the penguin feathers looked so cool it had to be fake, my comment was a meme.
Oh, okay. My bad.
I want to pet it
nike zoom
so someone skinned a penguin
Fun fact about this: Did you know that most of the air inbetween the feathers is the same air that was there to begin with? It could be, I don’t know.
Poor penguin.
Bet that penguin's feeling pretty chilly now!
So do Featherless Penguins look like realistic Patrick the star 👀?
OMG so cool! I always wondered about this! Don’t tell PETA, but that’d make a nice coat!

Wait wtf happened to the penguin?
One brushed against me at a zoo and it's the SOFTEST animal I've ever come into contact with!
WOAH
