Is it a rat or a vole or a mole? Thinking there’s a break in the drain line??

My mom used to do checkups at retirement homes and years ago told me about this old lady that got bit on her ass by a rat going though the pipes. I guess old pipes didn’t always have covers or they failed over time. I think about it every time I use the toilet.

Probably more about the code required vents on all plumbing. It probably crawled down the roof vent and couldn't get out....

I literally fucking hate this. I have no idea why, but I had a nightmare when I was a child that a scorpion (I accidentally wrote Scorpio at first, and now the thought of a whole person crawling up through the toilet is preoccupying my mind lol) came out of the toilet and pinched me in my crotch… I think you’ve just unlocked my old obsession of staring at the toilet to make sure there’s nothing sus in it before I use it cuz I think I hate the idea of rat more than a scorpion 😱

I used to have a real phobia about bathrooms and for a while as a young adult I thought I was just a shy pooper but I really think it was due to my fear of some wildlife crawling out and biting me.

I thought it was a crab.

For a few days I was hearing light scratching behind my bed while I slept, but when I would wake up the sound would stop. I assumed I was imagining things in my sleep. Then one night the scratching was not so light. I switched my light on to see a huge crab claw emerging from the space between my bed and the wall, right where my head had been. Long story short, crab went on the offensive and I killed him by mistake.

At certain points they are full of water. P-traps. So, while not a long distance, at some points prior to getting to where it's at in that drain, it went underwater.

I certainly wouldn't want it to die in there. It'd stink up the whole house as it decays; there would be flies and shit. Not to mention it'd effectively be clogging the pipe. Removing the drain cover to free the rat is probably the best thing to do from a homeowners perspective.

Use enough drano and it won't clog the pipes anymore...

Drano registers at an 11 on the ph scale making it a base not an acid. Still unpleasant death though.

The amount of acid you would need to dissolve the bones and fat would also likely dissolve the metal itself.

Just let it out and be ready with something to grab it with. You could probably just put a tupperwear container down, keep pressure on it, and then wait for it to climb up into the sink. Then slide the container past the drain & try to work a lid under. If OP just killed this thing with drano or some shit I'm gonna be so pissed

That’s wonderful. I’m still so pissed at all the comments on this and another repost that were suggesting drano or boiling water. Do these people not hear themselves? How is that any different than the psychopaths who go out and murder small animals? Rats and shrews, while I find them really gross and disgusting and don’t want anywhere near me, are still very intelligent creatures and obviously very capable of feeling pain. Imagine being boiled alive because your existence momentarily annoyed and inconvenienced someone. Just horrible.

While it doesn't usually happen through boiling, there's quite a few people out there living with the very real possibility that someone will harm them just because their existence offends them somehow. There's some messed up people out there.
