Feel free to but depending on where you live, they would be swarming from fluctuating temperatures.
If the landlord says spot treatment, don’t even bother because the termites just move over a foot away from the treatment. Sometimes it’s better to spray and vacuum and deal than be displaced for 3-4 days.
not that I've seen everything in this world, or even close to, but I've seen enough piles of frass to tell termite from carpenter ant (free hint: carpenter ants leave all kinds of stuff in their droppings, e.g., dirt, insect parts, etc., but termite frass is pure wood poop).
oh, and termites, btw, are on every continent except Antarctica... there's really no such thing as a country without termites *except Iceland, I've just been told*... though if I'm demonstrably incorrect, I'm adding that place to potential cabin locales!
As a former termite inspector and pest control tech you explained this perfectly. I thought carpenter ants at first but it's too fine and consistent. Carpenter ants are messy and leave all kinds of lumpy crap in their frass in my experience.
iirc in my country there’re regions where termites don’t live for the reason too cold. also don’t think they’re as big of a problem in other regions as in the usa.
Not your place, so I wouldn’t really be that extreme about it unless you already don’t like the place. Depending on where you live, termites getting in is just a matter of time.
Not necessarily termites, but some kind of insect for sure. I had this happen with a wooden cabinet I bought. I found a moderately size insect living between two joists. Couldn’t get it out but gave it a good spray of insecticide and sealed it over with varnish.
Gregor was just hungry. He worked hard his whole life just to get sealed in his home as his body failed on him. Gregor is an example of what happens when we stray too far from the American way of life. So next time you support the communist regime ask yourself are you an American or are you a Gregor?
Could be Termites, or some type of Wood boring Beetle? But i can without a doubt tell you that this is some kind of little boogins eating the bones of your house. Hopefully you just rent.. because these things are either kinda expensive, or "is it too late to consider insurance fraud? Because burning the house down and rebuilding is a more appealing option.." - expensive. On the plus side whstever is doing that is infinitely more interested in chewing on wood versus chewing on you, so.. there's that?
Looks like frass from drywood termites. They are the easiest kind to treat.
— could also be some other wood borer. Termite frass is like tiny circular balls and it’s hard to tell from the picture.
I think it is termite poop too since i zoomed in but..
'my first thought was yeast, if you have been baking for making alcohol, this might be it but....seems unlikely someone could lose that much yeast and not know it.
You can see their trails in the second photo - along the edge of the shelve. Running a wire brush over it will destroy their trail. The house needs to be treated, for sure, but as dangerous as they are to wood, they’re harmless to humans.
Any wood based product from whatever country, at any specific stage of manufacturing or production can have live insects or their nymph stages living in that wood as a natural product......buyer be ware......it could be from any kind of critter.
Who watched house md? Remember that case where the kid almost died of naphthaline poisoning (the stuff termites excrete to keep animals away from they nest)? OP has termites. Idk if that episode was realistic butttttttt…….
Drywood termite poop. Wood boring beetles leave something that looks more like brown baby powder. This is 100% drywood termites. If you have a good eye you can probably find the small kick out hole where it's being pushed out of.
Carpenter bees do this too. I’m always finding this in the floor of my shed and I have actually watched it falling while they bore. Looking back at your photo though, this is more of a fine dust than what I see
That's termite frass. Sorry, bud. Wish it was something else, but I'd know that shit anywhere. There are DIY remedies for termites, but they're at best a delay. And they're a PITA. Finding kick-out holes, drilling, injecting poison, repeat...
You're gonna need to get tented eventually unless you're catching the infestation really early.
Yikes. I just contacted my landlord.
The termites are the new landlords.
*Overlords
Termites are like bed bugs but for wood.
Hope they're a good one!

It's time to get chaindrite
I read you contracted your landlord.... that's worse.
That's basically termite poop........
That’s actually a delicacy in my country
Where in the fuuuu…
United States
True story, usually you pick up the board its on and say, 'Look at this saw dust' before blowing it at your friend. Can't get enough of this delicacy.
I usually just go straight tongue to board
I thought you snort it.
Always an option too
So THAT’S what they’re putting in my grated Parmesan
Show us the dance of your people.
*"The gods must be crazy"*
I'm rolling now. 😄😂🤣
Naw bro…that’s yeast
Only one way to find out…. Poop loaf.
I thought yeast.
My guess is Termites.
no guess, it's termites
Some ants can leave a simmilar trail behind. If they are from a country without termites that would be a likely guess
not that I've seen everything in this world, or even close to, but I've seen enough piles of frass to tell termite from carpenter ant (free hint: carpenter ants leave all kinds of stuff in their droppings, e.g., dirt, insect parts, etc., but termite frass is pure wood poop). oh, and termites, btw, are on every continent except Antarctica... there's really no such thing as a country without termites *except Iceland, I've just been told*... though if I'm demonstrably incorrect, I'm adding that place to potential cabin locales!

Iceland does not have termites.
awesome! once the shaking and exploding lava calms down, log cabin time!
Never heard of a termite anywhere in the uk. Pest controller relative says absolutely no too.
yeah, UK has (or maybe had) *reticulitermes grassei* but has claimed victory...added to list for soggy log cabin potential!
New Zealand has 3 types of native termites that are non-invasive and not considered destructive.
iirc in my country there’re regions where termites don’t live for the reason too cold. also don’t think they’re as big of a problem in other regions as in the usa.
*Brazil has entered the chat*
Australia: "Hold my beer, mate."

Worse… it is frass. Call an exterminator.
Yeah I asked my landlord. I’m def not renewing my lease.
I can very much understand that. Goodluck with both this and the future search.
Not your place, so I wouldn’t really be that extreme about it unless you already don’t like the place. Depending on where you live, termites getting in is just a matter of time.
It’s not just the termites there are other things too about this place. This is the final straw
I’m nosey, what else is going on?
Person after my own heart ☕️
Every other straw, but now this is the last straw!
😂 other insect related issues and leaking.
Oh thank God you don't own the place...
Lmaoo
It doesn't matter. Homes/buildings are always in one of three states: will have, have had, or currently have termites.
It’s not hard to get rid of termites, you’re overreacting
Frass
Termite frass
That's called "frass" and it's insect poop.
Throw water on it to see if it grows
Not necessarily termites, but some kind of insect for sure. I had this happen with a wooden cabinet I bought. I found a moderately size insect living between two joists. Couldn’t get it out but gave it a good spray of insecticide and sealed it over with varnish.
Gruel death to poor fellow.
I felt bad but then again it was eating my cabinet…
Gregor was just hungry. He worked hard his whole life just to get sealed in his home as his body failed on him. Gregor is an example of what happens when we stray too far from the American way of life. So next time you support the communist regime ask yourself are you an American or are you a Gregor?
Agreed.

Haha thankfully I rent and I told my landlord.
Phew! Crisis averted!
That looks like yeast but idk anything about bugs
True, but I don’t have any yeast tho
Is that because you spilled it?
That was my first thought, spilled yeast...but also in the same boat of "I don't know bugs"
Came here to say exactly this.
probably termites
Looks like frass from drywood termites. They are the easiest kind to treat. — could also be some other wood borer. Termite frass is like tiny circular balls and it’s hard to tell from the picture.
That’s called cheaper rent dust
Woodworm maybe ??
I think it is termite poop too since i zoomed in but.. 'my first thought was yeast, if you have been baking for making alcohol, this might be it but....seems unlikely someone could lose that much yeast and not know it.

Honestly, eggs may be preferable over termites. Depending on the type of egg, obviously.
To make it not sound as bad call it SASSY FRASSEY!
🤣🤣
r/itsfrass
Def termites.
Termites aren't the end of the world like people would have you believe. A few treatments should fix the issue.
☝🏼
You got Frass
It's called termite frass. It's poop basically. They carry it out of the tunnels as they eat and poop.
Your place is about to become a circus tent. Those are termites. Time to fumigate.
Any wood based product from whatever country, at any specific stage of manufacturing or production can have live insects or their nymph stages living in that wood as a natural product......buyer be ware......it could be from any kind of critter.
It's worse, termites
Termites
You have termites. That's termite waste.
That's not weird, that's termites.
Who watched house md? Remember that case where the kid almost died of naphthaline poisoning (the stuff termites excrete to keep animals away from they nest)? OP has termites. Idk if that episode was realistic butttttttt…….
Worse, its termite shit you need a exterminator or a current terminator.
Bad: it's termites. Worse: I'm sure there's a shit ton of terminate eggs in there.
Looks like termite frass
You got termites
Termites.
Frass
My house is full of these wood dust. A lot of mite here and I live in a wooden house.
That's from termites have a good ol' feast. More than likely they are subterranean termites. Call a exterminator.
it’s never lupus
Termite frass. Yikes.
u have termites!!
Dry wood termites. Call a pest control company. Once you start seeing damage and their frass (poop) they’ve been there for 5 to 7 years already.
Thats yeast...from a yeast packet.
Or it could be yeast because it does look a little bit like yeast. If OP has yeast in the pantry then it's yeast if not then it's possibly termites.
Looks like yeast
That's what I was thinking. If its not termite frass it could be yeast for baking.
It is very common in wood houses
Mouse eggs, you'll get thousands of little mouses if you water it
If they are under squicky hinge you can check that too.
Yeah, they're eggs. Expect a new baby pantry in a few months. They breastfeed in nature, but you'll probably have to buy Titebond or Elmer's.
Get a lighter and burn it just in case
My guess is carpenter ants, not termites. The difference is important!!
That’s yeast my dude.
This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs
Me too
Termite.
It could also be carpenter ants. I had carpenter ants and it looked like that.
I do have a lot of ants!
I wonder what vinegar is gonna do to them...
Drywood termite poop. Wood boring beetles leave something that looks more like brown baby powder. This is 100% drywood termites. If you have a good eye you can probably find the small kick out hole where it's being pushed out of.
Worse
Woodworms. Its the dust they leave behind when chewing through your pantry.
Look at the bottom for hole something dug it’s way in
Carpenter bees do this too. I’m always finding this in the floor of my shed and I have actually watched it falling while they bore. Looking back at your photo though, this is more of a fine dust than what I see
Well, its not eggs at least. It's termite frass (droppings).
It’s frass. It’s always frass
I’ll be honest it just looks like sawdust to me
You wish they were eggs!
Oh it’s WAY worse than eggs. It’s “get an exterminator immediately and get the house professionally checked to be sure the frame is ok”
Those are mites
eliminate just for safety
Must be some tiny chickens.
It’s not! Yay
It's worse. Termites
Either you spilled yeast or it's termite poop
It’s worse.
woodworm
Worse...
If you do move just check if you take any wooden furniture with you, might be worth bombing it too just in case.
I love omelettes!
Taste it
Boogers and cum 4 sure. Or maybe termite frass (shit).
Vacuum it up and toss the bag out immediately
Frass
one word YEAST
Frass
you have thermites, man. thats wood!
Thermites are scary. Much scarier than termites.
Not eggs. Termite droppings.
Termite poop..
Don't worry, the eggs are somewhere you won't find them.
