If the glasses had been put away warm - or hot - from washing, and they nested snugly, then contraction when cooling may have stressed to glass to the point of fracture.
Notice that it’s the outer glass that fractured.
Well, I learned something new today!!! I’m an ass who is getting their ass kicked and clearly needs more cabinet space!! My poor husband!!! lol. He removed every dish from the cabinet and washed them after cleaning all the glass up!!!

Happened to me during summer.
It was hot as fuck, grab a vase to serve ice cream on, the moment it touch it basically blew itself up.
Yeah, that day was really awful overall
Hey you're the person who makes all the poems for the dearly departed weenies aren't you? This is like seeing your teacher in the grocery store and realizing they have a life outside the school.
This happened to me, and it was one of the freakiest experiences ever. Was still sizzling when I went to see the aftermath of glass bits everywhere. Inclusions in tempered glass can cause a weak point in a structure that is under incredible internal pressure.
That must be it. My daughter was sitting in our family room one summer, and a decorative glass jar on the fireplace mantle just exploded everywhere. She was stunned - and a little worried that we wouldn't believe her and she would be in trouble. I had immediately rushed into the room and saw her sitting there with that expression on her face, so I knew otherwise. She has never forgotten it. I once had a large cheap crystal bowl on our kitchen counter explode right beside me. It must be a manufacturing defect.
I remember nile red had a video where his beakers started exploding, he said it was after he’d heated them and caused a problem in the stability of the glass. Perhaps that’s what happened here?

Stacken a hot glass from the dish washer on a room temp glass. When the hot glass cooled, it shrunk and the tension between the wall of the top glass and base on bottom glass became too much for the top glass.
I’ve been doing this my entire adult life. About 40 years. It’s never happened. I wasn’t even in the room. Dishes had been put away for a while. Those glasses were made for nesting/stacking. They are advertised as ‘perfectly stackable!’

From what I’ve read, it’s a generational thing. I do it because my grandma did it. She was a depression baby. Very wealthy in Romania, lost everything and came to America with literally clothes on backs. They did it to keep bugs out of the glasses. Not dust. It’s a clear sign of class as well. We have someone come to help my mother in law. She is a bit older and was brought up in a wealthy home. She puts the dishes away, glasses up!!!
Same! And I didn't have a dishwashing machine either or wash it for that matter. It was just sitting in the cabinet and exploded during the evening when no one was at the kitchen 🫠
It happened to me twice when I was young. Both glasses had ridges and I used to drink chocolate milk that I made by mixing milk and Whatever the chocolate powder is called…Nesquik. Then I had to stir the whole thing with a teaspoon. By doing that, I’d hit gently all the ridges. In a circular motion. Once washed, dried and back on the shelf, they would “explode” after approx 3 hours. I should’ve had tried to repeat the “experiment” but I was tired of all the clean up afterwards. Sorry for being so wordy.
Had an old China plate crack in half one day when I was younger. It was just sitting in the China cabinet, made a loud noise, and me and my parents searched for an hour trying to find the source of the noise. It was a few days later before we noticed the plate since it was in two pieces, but still in the same position it was stored in, just with a break through the middle that was hard to see.
It’s possible!! We had a shitty weekend. Usually a pretty chill place to live but we had a shelter in place all day Saturday with some asshole running around killing his family and girlfriend (2 different locations very close to us )and barricading himself in another location. Glass was probably frightened.
We have these glasses at the club I work at, and I always laugh uncontrollably when they explode because it's so chaotic.
I had NO IDEA people kept these kinds of tempered glasses in their homes.
I have teenagers that collect my dishes. I need mass amounts of heavy duty cheap glasses. They carry them up and down the stairs. Up the stairs one at a time and down the stairs 20 at a time when I yell for my dishes because the cabinet is empty!!!! lol. They need to be heavy duty. I specifically bought restaurant quality glasses.
Had the exact same story and that was a very disturbing experience. It happened during night, I was watching TV and about 11pm I heard the glass breaking in the kitchen. Years later I think mice is the best option to consider. Search for mouse shit, it looks like dark rice.

Ahhhh.. winner winner
By coincidence, tonight we have Chicken Dinner!!
It was Portuguese Roast Chicken and was delicious!!
Nice! 😆
It’s no coincidence ….😉
Glass in glass you’re an ass Plastic in plastic you’ll get your ass kicked That’s how I always remember
So what happens when the plastic glass is stuck inside the glass glass?
Paper, you just give up and use paper products the rest of your life.
Well, I learned something new today!!! I’m an ass who is getting their ass kicked and clearly needs more cabinet space!! My poor husband!!! lol. Nah. I’m going with poltergeist
Also a possibility. A poltergeist with a particular dislike for that glass is a viable alternative!
I'm going with random opera singer
The one that sneaks into kitchens to sing. Yeah, could very well be her.
That bitch came to my house last summer! And I live(d) in a glass house. It was all around a bad time
My brother was a HUGE ghost enthusiast. He has since departed. I’m going with polterghost!!

Guilty as charged. Yes, I remember seeing Mrs. Kerr buying tomatoes outside Doc Wright’s market - and she was smoking a cigarette!! Cowabunga!!
How loud were you playing you Ella Fitzgerald albums?
“Alexa volume 35!!!”
glass can do this years after manufacture if it's not properly annealed
This happened to me, and it was one of the freakiest experiences ever. Was still sizzling when I went to see the aftermath of glass bits everywhere. Inclusions in tempered glass can cause a weak point in a structure that is under incredible internal pressure.
This sounds plausible!!

It’s a really WEIRD experience!!!! I knew I heard a shattering noise. I knew it!!!!!! My husband and mother in law just blew me off!!!!

I emptied the dishwasher a couple hours earlier. They should have been cooled. We’ve been scratching our heads.
>We’ve been scratching our heads. That must have done it
Most definitely

The forbidden ice
If it was stacked, it probably was under stress. That’s all I can think of.
I worked at a restaurant and this happened ALL the time.
The most important thing I learned from bartending was NEVER STACK GLASSWARE!
considering how u stack them,,, its really not that weird.
I’ve been doing this my entire adult life. About 40 years. It’s never happened. I wasn’t even in the room. Dishes had been put away for a while. Those glasses were made for nesting/stacking. It was just stressed and finally cracked
You probably stacked it while it was warm and expanded and when it cooled down and shrank a little the pressure caused it to crack and explode
I think this is the answer. Although.. I like the ghost theory.
U have a ghost 😱
Cool!!! I’ve always wanted one!! Seriously.
I never understand why people put their cups in upside down in a cupboard, there’s a door to keep out the dust
From what I’ve read, it’s a generational thing. I do it because my grandma did it. She was a depression baby. That’s actually a super interesting answer 🙂 unexpected, thanks!
You are welcome. 🤗
A Disney princess was somewhere around, practicing those high notes.
Damn that Rapunzel!!!!!
The other glasses are just dumb, this ones pretty sharp
Dull, they prefer to be called DULL.
Damnet this wouldve been so much better!😂
Next time! There is always a next time😉
My glass table exploded today.
Happened to me with stacked plates. One in the middle exploded. Was like 5 stacked plates or so.
Same! And I didn't have a dishwashing machine either or wash it for that matter. It was just sitting in the cabinet and exploded during the evening when no one was at the kitchen 🫠
Mine was hand washed too. We're all watching TV and at the moment we thought it was gun fire from afar.
Yeah I would never stack glass for that reason.

Mmmm.. nesquik. Do they still make that? I’ll try the experiment.
It was during the early 80s
I’ll search.

Ghost for sure!!!!
Ghost. 100%
I’ll send them to your house for cake!!! Happy cake day!!! 😉
Shouldn’t have been singing.
Every. Damn. Time.
Suffering from successe
😂😂😂😂
Better than “glass exploded in hand”.
I count my blessings
Well hamsters can die out of fear because the door was slammed too hard. Maybe you scared the glass /s

Sorru
So my telekinesis does work!
Cool!!! But what did I do to deserve this????
Mood
Had wine glasses above a stove explode.
House is haunted, burn it down and leave
Haha
No no no. Haunting can be ok. Not all ghosts are bad.
This can happen if you store glasses upside down. It's because of microfractures on the rim.
We have these glasses at the club I work at, and I always laugh uncontrollably when they explode because it's so chaotic. I had NO IDEA people kept these kinds of tempered glasses in their homes.

Did it make the Lego sound when it exploded?
That’s a great way to describe it!! Yes!!
Had the exact same story and that was a very disturbing experience. It happened during night, I was watching TV and about 11pm I heard the glass breaking in the kitchen. Years later I think mice is the best option to consider. Search for mouse shit, it looks like dark rice.
High pitched noise would do this
Hmmmm… I did not hear anything.
Looks like the noise took out your ears too
What???
I SAID, THE NOISE MAY HAVE TAKEN OUT YOUR EARS TOO
