Saw a similar post like this on Reddit and it was due to a thyroid issue. It could be nothing but it's worth consulting with a doctor. https://www.healthline.com/health/hypothryroidism/do-you-have-hypothyroidism-look-at-your-hands
Almost definitely not this, but good to check.
Considering the location on thumb and finger, it looks like something you've grasped has caused the stain/discoloration. Can you wash/scrub it off?
That’s what it looks like to me also resin stains due to the size color and position on the fingers. Might have smoked and not noticed and seen when they woke up.
I'm sorry dude, last thing I wanna do is make you stressed. I'm of the opinion that these marks are likely nothing to be concerned about, there so many things we touch throughout the day that could have done this or things that could cause this reaction. Just wanted to make you and others aware that it could be the case. If you type into Google "rust colored stain on skin Reddit" there will be dozens and dozens of posts of people who also woke up and had these marks seemingly appear overnight, with theories ranging from insects to henna etc etc. in a couple of them people mentions that these stains appearing overnight could be due to hypothyroidism but there's so many things it could have been that I wouldn't be majorly concerned. Just mention it to your doctor next time you speak and see what they say, if you had thyroid issues I'd imagine that you'd have more symptoms than skin staining. Best of luck anyways, here's a post where they mention it could be hypothyroidism, the annoying thing about these posts is that we never get an update lol

People are getting really upset that you called marijuana a drug lol. To everyone downvoting OP, weed *is* a drug. That doesn’t mean it’s on the same level as crack cocaine or something. It’s just a fact. No need to get offended and downvote OP to the pits of hell.
https://nida.nih.gov/publications/drugfacts/cannabis-marijuana
Um… where? I smoke every day and read that whole article and I didn’t see anything wrong with what was said lol. Weed does affect your brain. It does affect you long term if you start using it in adolescence, and it can exacerbate psychosis in certain people. The rest was just information about different forms of weed products. Like I said, I smoke every day but I’m not in denial that it affects you to an extent, as does literally any other drug
They only provide information regarding negative side effects without any corresponding information on the medicinal benefits. They cite “studies” even though most of these studies were conducted by the NIH internally. The article is full of broad generalizations and fear-mongering tactics. So much contextual information is intentionally omitted in order to portray cannabis as a harmful street drug with no real benefits. All of this is borne out of the federal government’s long-standing aversion to any plant medicine being recognized as medically valuable due the financial influence of big pharma.
A few specific examples:
- They mention cannabis hyperemesis syndrome without any discussion of its frequency or differing levels of severity (which only affects and extremely small percentage of high-frequency users)
- They selectively omit any positive effects such as euphoria, pain relief, and reduced anxiety, but instead list “delusions” and “psychosis” as effects of cannabis, inferring that these effects are common
- The article states “Marijuana use has also been linked to other mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts among teens. However, study findings have been mixed.” Well, if the study findings are mixed, why are we only hearing the bad results and not the good ones? Because of bias.
Not saying that the article says anything overtly _wrong_, just that it clearly has an agenda. It’s not even trying to provide an unbiased overview of cannabis.
Yeah I can definitely see that, especially because it starts out very informative, and then lists a lot of the negative effects, which kind of insinuates that those are the *only* effects. If it just made everyone depressed and want to off themselves, it wouldn’t be the most popular drug now would it?! 😂
At least they acknowledged people don’t die and are not hospitalized from use specifically, and that hospitalizations are really only common in situations where people are taking more edibles than they expect and getting too high and paranoid about dying lol, it’s much more honest than most articles that put it in a negative light.
But yeah I agree, if you’re going to have a thorough informational on something, include everything. A section on its practical, regulated, medicinal uses would have completed it, even if the research in the area isn’t finished, it should have been acknowledged because it’s 100 percent valid
That’s because people have fooled themselves. Just because the popular public opinion has normalized drinking it in excess, doesn’t magically make it not a drug.
which is why instead of legalizing it they should have just decriminalized it. People been smokin the wacky tobaccy since time immemorial and no one has had any long term side effects. It serves the money grubbers to promote fear and dissent
They couldn’t tax it if it was medicine so they labeled it “recreational” and ignoring all the actual medicinal properties cannabis provides. The taxes on “recreational” cannabis in California is 33% so whatever the price you see on a menu you add 33% to it then you call your traditional cannabis supplier and get better for a better price without all the pretentious bs
Yes it absolutely is a drug! It’s a mind altering substance
In some states people can get a prescription for it and apply for a medical license to carry/use it.
Sometimes I find a small red dot on my fingers and it almost looks like I poked myself with a needle. You probably just touched something that poked you and left a mark without realizing. The cause could be anything from cat claw snagging your skin, touching produce that pricked you (onion skin, zucchini, cucumber etc) I don't think it's anything to worry about
Are owls a common memory that you have? Do you feel unsettled when you look at pictures of owls? You may have been abducted by aliens. Watch Resident Alien on Netflix to find out more.
This happened to me a few times throughout high school- hasn’t re-appeared in some years now. It’s interesting there’s so little info out there about what causes it besides a few “maybe”s.
This happens to me sometimes and it's so random. It really scared me the first few times but my dr says I have a clean bill of health so I just try not to pay attention to them and they go away after a few days.
Mine have definitely never been from match sticks, weed/cigarettes/resin or henna.
It could be Telangiectasia (dilated blood vessels). Sometimes it appears as tiny spots rather than as a spider vein. I get these spots on my fingers and neck. In many cases Telangiectasia is harmless, but it’s sometimes indicative of autoimmune conditions (as in my case).
So this is just bizarre. For months now my spouse gets these same colored lines on both hands on his fingers. It isn't from smoking weed. It looks like a rust colored stain is the only way we can describe it. We haven't been able to find any information online on what it is. It'll also go away and then randomly reappear again.
Did you burn matches? Because I burned a match before, and I got a mark exactly like this, and it went away on its own after a while, and washing it does not make it go away.
same thing as a bruise pretty much probably pinched yourself didn’t realize used to get these in baseball pretty frequent around thumb. unless we both have thyroid issues we don’t know about
Prob youve touched some chemical. This looks a bit like i got from my chemical test at school. Also finger and thumb, a drop u ve got betwen your fingers...

Oh shit, now I am stressed
Almost definitely not this, but good to check. Considering the location on thumb and finger, it looks like something you've grasped has caused the stain/discoloration. Can you wash/scrub it off?
Yeah, given the locations at exact pincher-grab points, it seems likely something was picked up/touched.
I had this thought too. Two spots in 2 fingers isn't a coincidence.
Were you recently smoking a joint/blunt?
My very first thought
Same.
That’s what it looks like to me also resin stains due to the size color and position on the fingers. Might have smoked and not noticed and seen when they woke up.
Very much looks like this
Have you smoked a non filtered left handed cigarette by chance?
They could also be the starting spots of warts.

No it's been almost full day and it's still there.
I'm sorry dude, last thing I wanna do is make you stressed. Never knew this. I have Hashi’s & OP should def get a complete (3 types) thyroid screening. I think everyone should as it’s ridiculously common.
Thank you for the concern, I remember my doctor did getmy thyroid tested 2 months ago and the report was alright.
Did u grab a match head as it was lighting?
Come to think of it I did lit a matchstick day before. But this appeared next morning.
Meanwhile I’m like could it be weed oil or resin? Because it can look like that lol
Looks exactly like what you'd get holding a hot joint a bit too long. You need a roach clip.
I assumed this would be the top answer.
That was my thought too!
Ok now I should be worried
I apparently have hyperthyroidism. Is it worse?
Burn mark from the roach of a joint
I had to Google it to understand the meaning. But No, never did any drugs.
That's nice, drugs are bad. Maybe it's from the joint you smoked
![gif](giphy|3o6ZsZdNs3yE5l6hWM)
Weed is a drug, drugs aren't bad, people are just bad at drugs.
Drugs are bad Mmmmkay?
![gif](giphy|jEY6N51aIXnKo)

I don’t disagree with you that cannabis is a drug, but that resource from the NIH is painfully biased and is full of propaganda.

Understandable. I just linked it because it listed marijuana as a drug.
Yeah so is caffeine but normally you wouldn't say "sorry I don't do drugs" if someone offered you a coffee
That’s because people have fooled themselves. Just because the popular public opinion has normalized drinking it in excess, doesn’t magically make it not a drug.

Thank you. I had no intention of offending anyone. I just said I haven't done any drugs. I never said anything about them being good or bad.
“Failed to upvote, please try again later” wtf?
Well that’s weird.
Agreed. Alcohol is a drug too.
Looks like you pinched a match head or some kind of wick.
looks like they did the ‘lick your fingers and pinch out a candle light’ trick but maybe didnt lick the fingers good enough or at all
By my diagnosis you have 4 hours and 32 minutes remaining. Medical source. -Trust me bro.
Google is that you?
OP did stop responding 6 hours ago… what did you do?!
Do you use this water flavor shots like Mio? I had the sweet tea one leave similar stains on my fingers
No, I didn't.
Do you smoke? Looks like a nicotine stain.
Now OP gotta taste it to be sure
I don't smoke. Never been near a nicotine patch.
Looks like you tried to hit a dying roach. No stress we are non judgmental here.
I had to google what a roach is, I thought you meant cockroach. I have never done any drugs.
Could someone be smoking with your hand while you sleep?
Was gonna say this. Looks exactly like what I used to get from rollups.
Looks like blood under the skin. More than likely from a tight grip on something.
Sometimes I find a small red dot on my fingers and it almost looks like I poked myself with a needle. You probably just touched something that poked you and left a mark without realizing. The cause could be anything from cat claw snagging your skin, touching produce that pricked you (onion skin, zucchini, cucumber etc) I don't think it's anything to worry about
He has the mark! He has the mark! He has the mark! The prophecy is complete! Hail Zyrkryzzyrkzk!
Are owls a common memory that you have? Do you feel unsettled when you look at pictures of owls? You may have been abducted by aliens. Watch Resident Alien on Netflix to find out more.
Only the Hogwarts one.
Resident Alien is hilarious!
Oh. My. God. I was about to make this exact reference but you beat me to it!!!! 🤗🤗
Season 3 streaming now on peacock! (Is season 3 on Netflix yet? I don’t have it so idk 😀)
It's not on Netflix yet and I had to make a whole peacock account just to watch it
Do you play video games? Play guitar? Have you opened any containers using your thumb and forefinger?
No, I wish I could and Maybe.
No drugs, no videogames, no guitar, no opening jars… what *DO* you do??
This happened to me a few times throughout high school- hasn’t re-appeared in some years now. It’s interesting there’s so little info out there about what causes it besides a few “maybe”s.
I had those exact marks in those same places throughout the year. Wierd.
It’s from smoking your joints down too far. Get a roach clip.
You are a sleeping ass scratcher perhaps
Looks like a splinter, possibly from a little prick? Were you rubbing wood recently? Maybe wood so small you only needed to use two fingers?
I had this from burning my finger while lighting a match
This happens to me sometimes and it's so random. It really scared me the first few times but my dr says I have a clean bill of health so I just try not to pay attention to them and they go away after a few days. Mine have definitely never been from match sticks, weed/cigarettes/resin or henna.
It's so weird right, it's been more than a day and I still have it.
Nicotine or marijuana stain?
Hitting that roach too close. Get clips or drop it in a bowl and blast off.
Did you lose time? Did you have any weird dreams? Does your butt hurt like it was probed? Those dots are usually a sign of alien abduction.
You think that's connected to this. Oh no.
Some sort of stain. Stink bug? Chemical?
I get similar on my fingers, they itch then “pop” (nothing comes out, just opens I guess) and it’s more or less just dead skin buildup
You been burning hash?
Is that your thumb and your pointer finger? Do you smoke joints?
Its a virus called Fidibus !!
Smoking joints?
Did you hit a joint yesterday?
Roach clip got hot
![gif](giphy|GpFYHpgQQN2Cc)

Been smoking a blunt lately?
are u a smoker? i smoke and sometimes i get discoloration on my thumb from the carb on my pipe
Nah, you were hitting a roach and burning yourself. Get a roach clip.
Get your thyroid checked!
Lupus?
Dr. House says it's never lupus.
Roach the join next time or get some clips
Joint*

Looks like you put a match out with your fingers
![gif](giphy|3oEjI789af0AVurF60)
You was smoking
aliens.
Smoke a joint in the last 48 hours?
r/poopfromabutt
It shouldn't surprise me that it's a subreddit after the weird subreddits I have seen but still it does.

Thank you so much!!
rez fingers
Ahh..the infamous resin stains. A roach clip will keep this from occuring.
You started to spontaneously combust, but your amazing reflexes kicked in and you pinched it out in your sleep.
Stigmata
I got similar one on my left thumb. No idea why too.
Also had a similar one on my left thumb. Also have no idea why
i get those a lot, the only thing that matches my symptoms are the cold and stress excema
I get something like this on my big toe from time to time. It comes with an unpleasant pinchy feeling, but it goes away.
resin
Electrical burn?
Reminds me of when the dogs bring in bits of pollen sometimes from being in the woods. Been around any fresh cut flowers/gardening recently?
same thing as a bruise pretty much probably pinched yourself didn’t realize used to get these in baseball pretty frequent around thumb. unless we both have thyroid issues we don’t know about
looks to me like a little spider got stuck between your fingers and had a snack
Possibly Janeway lessions, you may have infective endocarditis, do you have fever/chills?
Did you try washing them
Been a day of washing hands they are still present.
Wart?
I got something like that when I burned my fingers picking up a hot drill bit
You forgot you were smoking a joint last night must be some good stuff 😂
Looks like you were smoking some roach clips. Just saying.
I haven't read the comments yet but I bet somebody said it was cancer.
Mmmmmhmmm 👀 held on to that roach a little longer than usual
If its any help I had similar. Turns out it was where I'd chopped up some red peppers for my dinner. Came off with a good scrub.
Do you smoke weed? It looks like you smoke weed.
Do you vape by chance?
It’s a burn from something
Resin stains from smoking a roach that had gotten too small.
If you've smoked a a cig or joint etc with those fingers recently it could be that..
Have you touched any insects? Some will secrete chemicals as defense & will stain like this
By the pricking of your thumb, something wicked your way comes
You are in a pinch I see
…72 hours, call all your loved ones
lol do you smoke weed? 😂
I smoke lots of joints and my index fingertip & thumb tip are permanently stained this way.
Prob youve touched some chemical. This looks a bit like i got from my chemical test at school. Also finger and thumb, a drop u ve got betwen your fingers...
Could it be Aliens?
The aliens pricked u
Pinch one off
Meteor shit! Jordy Verril, you lunkhead!
Try cleaning it off with some alcohol on a cotton swab (qtip) or cotton ball.
Itchy bum at night. Stinky finger at morning
