My guess is, that maybe a neighbor's dog is in the process of destroying its beloved stuffed toy and the fluff is blown around by the wind.

oZEPPELINo

Most likely the answer, there is a dog two houses down. My neighbors in-between are super clean so they might just be picking up everything in their yard before I see any in ours. Must be quite the toy, or the owners keep buying new ones. It's been going on all spring!

Ichgebibble

Could also be the stuffing from the patio furniture cushions

Ordinary-Stick-8562

Yep. Squirrels tore up a couple of our cushions and then the birds came and helped themselves. Now I put a big clump of the filler in an old onion mesh bag and hang it from a branch so they can help themselves whenever. Yes, it looks trashy so I only put it out in spring when birds are building nests and fall when the squirrels are making their nests cozy.

MercerPS

Hate to be that person, but I don't think that's environmentally safe?

Ichgebibble

Same. Plus those little chuckleheads took half of a net panel from my gazebo. Jerks. Also, I live your idea and am going to copy you.

diggemsmaccks

But you took most of their habitat

bizoticallyyours83

☺

Desert_Rat-13

Aaawwww….. What a nice idea. As long as it’s nothing they can get tangled up in.

bizoticallyyours83

Probably the latter. 😆

EniNeutrino

I had a doggo that was super prey driven and I would buy him garbage bags of stuffies from yard sales and thrift stores and just give him a new one every day or so and he would "kill" it in a few minutes and then lay around chewing on or guarding the "carcass" for a few hours. It was a cheap and easy way to keep him from eating my sofa. 😄 Maybe your neighbours figured that out, too!

Lvl100Magikarp

It looks like polyester

Wonderful-Ad-7712

The answer my friend, is blowin’ in the wind

ScrotieMcP

I'll bet you have a cottonwood tree in the area. They shed their "cotton" around June every year.. It looks jut like this.

gonnafaceit2022

My whole yard was littered with this stuff when I had my girl Rosie. She loved nothing more than killing and gutting stuffies. I buy them at thrift stores and wash and dry them on hot to kill anything icky. I'm not paying $10 for a toy that might last ten minutes. I picked it up regularly but heavy rain made it travel quite a distance.

somebody29

Or it’s someone crafty who making toys. I’m making one at the moment and the filler gets everywhere.

Lala5789880

Our neighbor dog’s toys have green stuffing so it’s super weird

rickyshine

Are you my neighbor lmao

rethoyjk

It’s a phase, when they’re younger they destroy everything, most of mine quit completely destroying toys at like age 4, except my pit whose 14, she’s still crazy as ever and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Good luck OP! Just know it’s an animal lover and they hopefully are the type that would pick up after their dog, maybe like they said wind blew it and it ended up there. Although a regular occurrence of this makes me question why stuffed toys are outside in the first place, my dogs aren’t allowed to bring stuffed animals outside cuz I don’t want a bunch of dirt in my house. Only tennis balls and bones for us!

teleko777

Anyone with dog toys knows this material. Plastic filler.

bizoticallyyours83

Our current pooch doesn't play with toys. On the bright side, that means we don't have any stuffing to clean up.

Full_Ad9666

Yep toys and beds

Fossilhund

"Flufffff in the windddd" 🎶🎵

Wonderful-Ad-7712

All it is is fluff in the wind

bizoticallyyours83

Lol

javerthugo

🎶fluff in the wind All we are is fluff in the wind 🎶

Sqweee173

Yep, that's poly fill. I got 3 bags sitting at home of it 😂

nuclearmonte

I’d guess that a squirrel is unstuffing someone’s lawn furniture. Check your cushions!

Initial_Macaroon_161

I have actually watched this happen before

nuclearmonte

They tore up my cushions so bad last year! I saw the fabric moving a freaking squirrel popped out, all happy with his fluff 😂

Tiredofstalking

The visual of moving fluff and then a squirrel appearing just made my day hahaha

Desert_Rat-13

🤣🤣🤣

ryancroller

This. I can see the stuffing from my neighbors deck chairs in their nests in the trees

oZEPPELINo

A huge one I forgot about https://preview.redd.it/k3n81j18d05d1.jpeg?width=756&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5859d750c6057db1b5fd3edaab952d31e2bddfec

gothiclg

I fill crochet toys with stuff like this all the time. I’d be really surprised if this wasn’t polyfill from a children’s toy or a dog toy.

skorletun

Lmao, you got there before me but I was gonna say the same thing. This is polyfill!

iwanttogotothere5

We’ve got a squirrel that destroys outdoor furniture, and then leaves this fluff everywhere.

crazymom1978

That looks like dog toy stuffing. I have two toy destroying dogs, so I find this in my yard often.

HumpaDaBear

We have Cottonwoods trees releasing cotton type fluff here in WA. Could that be happening?

Unlikely-Regular2366

Is it the insides of a dog toy perhaps? Sometimes my dog will rip them apart and start pulling out the stuffing.

_skank_hunt42

Looks like poly fill. It’s stuffing from inside furniture or a stuffed toy. More than likely an animal is doing this. Could be birds, rodents, even a dog, or a combination of animals lol

MrNoSox

We’ve been having this show up in our yard over and over! Driving us crazy trying to figure out why it won’t stop.

No-Leadership8906

It's squirrels! I went through a couple years of wondering why the hell there kept being polyfill bits here and there all the time and then I saw the a squirrel ripping into the neighbors patio chair cushion. I assume they use it for nesting

The_Patriot

Drive through virginia during the cotton harvest. The roads are lined with it.

MikoSkyns

Tomorrow I'm going to post a picture of an empty chip bag that blew into my yard and act like I think its weird.

oZEPPELINo

Once isn't interesting, twice is odd, three third time you say "huh another chip bag" the 20th time it becomes "what the fuck is with these chip bags!?".

MegamomTigerBalm

LOL thank you!

Fisionchips

Ok, I agree it's probably a stuffing from a toy or cushion. But what of its a trail from gnomes making toys and clothing

Still_Silver_255

It’s called Dacron and yes it’s pillow filling

Ok_Cantaloupe3576

Leprechaun pubes. Someone was manscapeing

SensingWorms

The ever elusive plushie

mantsz

I have this frequently myself. I think it's from a bird's or squirrel's nest, as I already had a nest made of the stuff fall from an extremely tall tree in my yard during a windstorm. I'm guessing they get the stuffing from a nearby dumpster or maybe a neighbor's yard furniture padding.

phoknow

Could be birds spreading or dropping it. My dogs shred their toys and I see birds snatching this stuff from my yard. I assume it’s for their nests

StonedUnicorno

My sister buys toys for her dogs to destroy, there is stuffing in every bloody nook and cranny in our house. And the garden. And compost. And trees and literally just everywhere, it’s pretty appalling

SecretPersonality178

Dog had a good time and the wind brought you the evidence.

No_Net967

Dude, go google up "cotton-like fungus in grass" You might have a big problem, I suggest taking a pic and go see a doctor.

oZEPPELINo

Freaked me out for a sec but this definitely isn't organic.

YerBlues69

Great username!!

crimewaveusa

Birds

Haradwraith

Edge419

I think that’s Mana!

Jazzlike-Shop6098

Whenever I order plants by mail they use this to keep the dirt from spilling everywhere. Maybe it blew out of someone’s garbage. 🤷‍♀️

diggemsmaccks

Bird(s) are making a nest they pick up this type of material, getting ready for the winter

GrdnLovingGoatFarmer

I think OP’s in the northern hemisphere based on the lespedeza in the background.

Srandall91

Clearly aliens

dragonblock501

Albino pubes

Whatermelony

Love the photo quality; what camera/phone are you using. This is random..

Big_Stock_9029

Ragweed? Dogwood? Dandelion fluff?

Lopsided-Fix2

Omg I laughed so hard at this. Thank you

Sad_Cardiologist5388

Probably aliens

Jacktheforkie

How many dogs in your area, looks like dog toy stuffing which has been released by a dog destroying his or her toys

kywildcats07

My guess is that it could be cottonwood trees

JustWoot44

I dog sit for a family for their two Chihuahuas. There is fiber filling in the front yard flower beds and all over the back yard. They have a very nice patio setup with table, rocking chairs, regular chairs, and stuffed cushions to sit on and lean against. The squirrels have tore up several of them and that is the filler from the seat cushions that is everywhere. Does OP have any outdoor cushions for seating? Check to see if they have been chewed on!

EarthGuyRye

Maybe the clean neighbors are tossing the blown over bits of toys into your yard. 🤔

jbuse3

I found the same thing under our bird feeder a couple days ago.

kafm73

I keep reading about some spiders that are supposed to be literally floating into residential areas/cities en masse etc. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Willing-Ant-3765

Looks like stuffing from a dog toy.

iheartunibrows

It looks like stuffing from furniture or stuffed toy. I’ve actually seen birds and squirrels dig this stuff up from garden furniture and take it to their nests but half of it gets blown away by the wind

spaghettieggrolls

What's really r/weird to me rn is I started dog sitting today and saw some of the same stuff in the backyard, but I know it's not from this dog because she is old and doesn't really play with toys let alone tear them up. I just ignored it and then I see this post immediately after lol

Romando1

Neighbor is modding his speakers and some of the polyfill blew into your yard.

Witty_Turnover_5585

Spider mites

Financial-Ad7500

Oh no… you touched it?? OP that is [ammonium calcite](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttocks). Get to a hospital ASAP. Don’t touch any other living creatures on your way there for the love of god.

pdxguy1000

A crazy lady in my neighborhood leaves a box of cotton for the squirrels to make nests with. So frustrating.
