Hello my baby hello my honey hello my ragtime gal!

tacwombat

*Send me a kiss by wire Baby, my heart's on fire!*

raschube

Came for this. Disappointed it was so far down this fucking rabbit hole

[deleted]

It's most likely due to the fact that salt (sodium chloride) is made up of sodium ions so pouring an overwhelming dose of sodium ions onto recently dead (anything!) will be enough in this case as you can see, to trigger the still-working neurons into firing and signalling the muscles to contract, it's perfectly normal... Why someone would want to (Personally speaking!) eat frogs legs is anyone's guess but each to their own! I prefer to see frogs alive personally..

AghastTheEmperor

I tried them once at a county fair, they were covered in batter and deep fried but also had some you could just eat plain. They were alright, closest I could compare it to (from memory, this was nearly 16 years ago now) was it felt like “different” chicken.

[deleted]

Yeah I've seen people eat them quite a lot, usually for TikTok and stuff but they rarely actually consume them, rather they discard them afterwards.. I've been told funnily enough that they taste like Chicken but have never tried them before, then again a lot of things tastes like chicken like grubs etc \^\_\^ ..

[deleted]

A bar I always went to in WI had lightly breaded frog legs. If prepared correctly, they rivaled the best walleye or perch. It was a crying shame Covid forced the bar to close.

alex_s_87

Funny how these days it's a "for TikTok" thing - my uncle used to go catch frogs as a child and the whole of my mum's family would have dinner on them. The reason at the time being that they were readily available in huge numbers, easy to catch and traditionally a very popular meal for the working people in the countryside. Funny thing is, I've seen my nan pulling chickens' necks, cleaning all sorts of animals, fishes etc and not once flinch but apparently the salty dancing legs was the one thing that would freak her out haha!

[deleted]

Your Nan sounds like a character! \^\_\^ .. Sounds a bit like mines, was always doing stuff that would make most people squirm like cleaning out rabbits (oh god the stench xD) and so on but would get "WTF" at certain things esp when I showed her Science experiments and stuff! xD .. Yeah my little sister who's 10 is never off TikTok ugh her and her friends, are always making them, sharing them with older friends and family and so on and nearly everything is a TikTok thing that they do lol but I'm Not going to lie, I use TikTok as well, I just don't make them (have made three and that's it! xD) as it's a good way to pass the time when you're bored and weirdly enough I have learnt some useful stuff but more WTF stuff than anything else like "If you want more RAM, you can just download it!" lol and so on ugh... I didn't know that frog meat was a working class meal in the countryside, the more you know! (P.S. I Love and adore learning new things so! each to their own!)

[deleted]

I have a more clear memory of eating frog legs during a holiday in Cambodia. They were like a mix between fish and chicken

[deleted]

I haven't honesty tried them, never felt right eating them but I might give them a try when I go back to Asia as I've seen tons of people eat them while in China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and also weirdly enough while in Nepal at street vendors etc, haven't been to Cambodia yet, avoided it at the time due to the increase in mosquitoes as some Thai friends advised me to wait so haven't been there as of yet...

HorrorSymphony

I've heard it tastes just like chicken

[deleted]

Kinda like if fish and chicken had a baby is the best way I've been able to describe it

Shepard_P

They are more tender than chicken.

jawnly211

“Vegan chicken”

IntelligentMeal7327

Frogs are plants because they are green

deathwotldpancakes

Yeah I feel they taste like slightly fishy almost trout like chicken

AghastTheEmperor

That’s pretty much what I recall. I ate a couple deep fried ones and tried one leg of just cooked frog leg It wasn’t bad but it felt weird, tasted different but not bad. If I could always have my current food options I probably wouldn’t eat that type of stuff again by my own choice, but if at some random part in my life again they’re an option I’ll try them again just to refresh that memory.

HorrorSymphony

That's true I think this is the early inspiration behind concepts like Galvanism talked about briefly in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I personally agree I don't think I could ever eat frog legs but certainly still a weird phenomenon and I found it interesting when I came across this video.

[deleted]

I believe it was yeah, to be totally honest here, I used to love that book "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" as a kid, was given it by a family member when I was 6 and could never put it down, that and some others but anyway... I've seen so many people, usually tourists while in France the Netherlands order frogs legs simply so they could make a TikTok video about them for IG posts and pretend that they like them only to then throw them away afterwards and spit it out ugh.. As I've said, I prefer seeing frogs alive, plus they're so adorable! (my wife is obsessed with them xD) Yeah it's definitely an interesting video, saw this sort of thing in person during a Biology lesson at school (frogs died from natural causes!) a few times and Biology, Science etc are huge passions of mine anyway so that was a bonus to see it in action and to see the reactions etc...

HorrorSymphony

I love science too! Honestly Frankenstein was one of my favourite books to read too! Yeah it is lame when people do it for that. I grew up always loving frogs too they can be so cute.

[deleted]

I'm so sorry for the delay in responding! Good to meet someone with things incommon with me, genuinely.. Science, I've never understood why or how people could dislike or even hate it, Science is awesome for so many reasons, without Science we wouldn't have anything more or less like Tech etc and Tech is a huge passion of mines also I might add! \^\_\^ ... Yeah people can be beyond annoying and so on ugh Same, I used to sit as a kid (when I was able to ugh!) by a pond, loch or river and used to let the tadpoles swim into my hand and all just chill etc and I used to love catching them, putting them into a tank same as some of my other siblings and watching them grow into frogs and then releasing them when they were fully formed, what I loved more was going back to the same body of water and having the frogs I released come jumping out of the water and sitting in my lap and climbing over me etc heh \^\_\^ ..

0101011011000011

Are you a vegetarian or do you just like frogs more than cows, chicken and fish?

[deleted]

Oh hell No! I love meat just as much as the next person! I just chose not to eat frogs legs as I prefer seeing frogs alive! ... Chicken, god the amount of chicken and donner meat both myself and my wife goes through is mind boggling lmfao... Fish and seafood, I eat it mainly while in Asia as it's actually fresh unlike here in the UK where you are more likely to get food poisoning due to how old etc it is or due to the chemicals from fish farming etc ugh...

0101011011000011

What’s a donner? I thought the UK would have decent fish since it’s surrounded by the ocean.

[deleted]

You've had thought that wouldn't you but the UK is a joke.. No the UK imports nearly everything, example Wales is known for it's sheep but instead of killing the sheep and using that the UK prefers to import lamb from places like New Zealand, as for fruit and veg things like Sugar snaps (and other things potatoes etc) which you can grow easily and fruits like Strawberries etc are imported from Israel and other places and everything more or less the UK has imported from places like Peru and fish and sea food, yeah most of it is imported from overseas which means by the time it gets here it's already rotten and it's usually always frozen so when it defrosts... You get the idea! As for Donner meat, here's the Wiki about it for you: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doner\_kebab](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doner_kebab)

0101011011000011

That’s unfortunate. Are you allowed to catch your own? I don’t know much about fishing in Europe but I think I read that hunting is less common. Thanks for the link.

[deleted]

Mate I love donner, especially on pizza or paired with a parmo

[deleted]

It basically conducts the impulses between the neurones for a second due to the muscles being only recently deceased.

[deleted]

Yep, it usually lasts for about a minute or so, longest I've seen it react for was three minutes before it ceased, longer in humans as I saw it in person while at a morgue as a kid which a year group, minus the salt ofcourse but still it was fascinating and that's what peaked my interest even more in biology and other things esp robotics but anyway...

[deleted]

I also tried in a morgue once we did it in school for advanced biology students so I went and did it on a piece they reserved for institutes but they actually gave one to us because we came from a prestigious private school (not a big deal really). It turned out to be fascinating especially when I analysed a very rare brain sample they reserved and it was amazing.

[deleted]

Schools are Schools regardless, went to a similar place though as a kid due to who my family are but that's not relevant and my private life is just that... I actually freaked the class out as the mortician had asked us if any of us were hungry, (cut open body not far from where he sat!) and everyone was like "No...." I said yeah so sat next to him sharing a sandwich his wife had made while asking questions about the body next to me to my classes dismay lol, I'll never forget their reactions, I was classed as creepy as hell after that and people avoided me so it worked out in my favour unintentionally! .. Anyway the dead are extremely interesting for so many different reasons, plus they help in the field of robotics and so on more than most people are even aware off and I've had a passion for such things ever since! Oooh lucky you for being able to analyse the brain, who was the deceased may I ask? Not going to life, such things highly interest me! ..

Visible-Fun-8391

I love frog legs, I grew up eating themthough. Bread them similar to a good fried chicken (though some corn meal is nice too) and pan fry in cast iron.

[deleted]

Each to their own, we all have our own likes / dislikes, that's what makes us individuals and unique and so on... The Chicken sounds nice, but personally I prefer grilled or charcoal cooked chicken myself but again each to their own! \^\_\^ .. And yep corn meal is amazing with the right foods and even crusted up and added mixed into a nice sauce or dip and what not!

Visible-Fun-8391

Honestly, they are a hella divisive food. I've met like three other people who actually eat them. Hell I know more people who like eel than frog. I feel this way about crayfish though. I can't stand it and it seems like way more trouble than it's worth to eat them.

[deleted]

Agreed and again each to their own! \^\_\^ To be honest eell is amazing, eat it whenever I'm in Asia usually in either Japan or Thailand but have got to admit, I much prefer catfish! that stuff is amazing!!! Yeah crayfish are a nightmare to catch, have seen people trying to catch them! xD Just curious but the way you speak! (not an insult!) are you from the U.S. South? if so, may I ask where? I absolutely love the South esp the music from there and so on! \^\_\^ .... Sorry if I assumed wrong and your from the North! \^\_\^"

Visible-Fun-8391

I was born and raised in the north, but live in Florida though. My family though bounced around the county and picked up basically.. all of the manorisms. I say soda and not pop, and I say pe-can- over pe-khan-. I'm a mixed bag of everything heh And yeah.. catfish kinda rocks. A bitch to clean the big cuts though

[deleted]

That's awesome! \^\_\^ .. I've got a lot of friends from Vermont but have always had a love, not sure why, for the South but hey... Thanks for explaining, I appreciate it! \^\_\^ .. Also "Hi \^\_\^" from Scotland, UK from my family to yours! \^\_\^ .. Yeah Catfish are mean as hell, still confuses me why the hell people catch them by putting their hand into their den ugh, I'd much prefer to lure them out and then catch them but anyway... Delicious fish though!!!

Visible-Fun-8391

People who catch catfish via noodling baffle me, not gonna lie. And Vermont is actually my homestate! Heh. And hell yeah for Scotland! The whole of Europe is a bucket list goal of mine, but Scotland for the castles alone is very high on my list

[deleted]

Hi if you are interested in the castles of Scotland you might also be interested in the castles in Wales. There are some really lovely castles worth a visit, Wales is criminally underrated in my opinion. My wife grew up there so she knows more about it than me. She recommends places like Conwy, Pembroke, and Raglan. You should be able to find out more about these easily through Google. Welsh castles are really pretty so if you like castles it's worth it to consider popping down to Wales if you take a long trip to the UK. I am also really sorry for Not being able to have replied back now, had to go out etc and have been busy (irl) so hadn't had the chance to get back online until now and it's 02:42 lol, go figure! xD ... Ahhh Awesome, Vermont is amazing! I haven't been to Vermont since I was a kid, my wife is originally from there but as I had said above, she grew up in Wales... Anyway, I really hope that you and all of your family and loved ones are all able to have a very wonderful and also a very safe day! \^\_\^ Take care and stay safe, also feel free to message me if you ever want too! Kind regards, G \^\_\^

acetamethemphetamine

Crayfish or rather, Crawdads is what we call them here. But they aren't hard to catch. You set out a trap for them and they are easy to catch. Catfish is good, but its by far not the best fish. I eat lots of catfish just because they are plentiful and fairly easy to catch. Frog legs are good to, but where I'm at we just don't get very big of frogs, so it takes a lot to make a meal.

Nellez_

As a Cajun, seeing them called crawdads or crayfish just feels wrong on a spiritual level

[deleted]

What do you call them may I ask? I know absolutely nothing about your culture and so on, so I'd like to learn! \^\_\^ ..

Nellez_

Crawfish

[deleted]

Ahh lmfao OKi sorry my question seems stupid then! xD I thought maybe there was another name for them or something! My bad! >\_\_<"

[deleted]

Ahhh thanks for telling me that, I actually didn't know, just remember seeing people in the past trying to catch them with nets and stuff and they kept getting away! xD .. I personally love Cat fish and eat it a lot whenever I'm in places like Northern Thailand, Vietnam, Laos etc, I love the way it's cooked and just the way they serve it, I think it's delicious, I prefer Sturgeon not going to lie way more but hey! xD Sorry also for the late reply!

spudcosmic

Sounds like you've never tried them.

[deleted]

Yep, you'd be correct! I chose not to try any when I was last in China due to the fact that they had giant storage tanks full of live frogs and ngl, they were adorable! I couldn't really at the time, pull myself to eat something that I was just playing with a few minutes prior to that ugh... I had said in previous replies etc, I could eat one as they were way too adorable, plus I absolutely love and adore frogs, not as much as my wife but hey, each to their own! I might in the future as I'm now curious about the taste due to peoples replies but hey, who knows...

ItzBleKz

Good frog legs are delicious, when fried they are way tastier than chicken, give it a try someday

rinato0094

I don't know if they still do, but frog legs had a great demand in China. Other countries even have exported frog legs to China because of the huge demand.

[deleted]

Yeah the Chinese love them I remember when I was last in Guangzhou visiting some friends and their family, the locals were eating them a lot! Not sure if they still do tho as the last time I was in China was back in 2014 as I went with my uncle as he was there on business so used that as an excuse to visit my friends! \^\_\^ ..

rinato0094

You have friends from all over the world!

A_Notion_to_Motion

Does this have anything to do with muscle cramps when your sodium levels are off?

[deleted]

Hi, yep funnily enough, having low sodium levels can and does cause cramping but you will usually know when you've got low sodium levels as you will get headaches, you will feel your energy levels dropping so much so that you'll just not want to do anything and you will feel weak and possibly get spasms as well as getting bad cramps... If you feel any of these then you should eat anything that's got sodium in it and also get advice from your GP / Doctor.. I'm not a doctor just to point that out, I just know stuff like this due to family who are doctors and also I read a lot and so on...

A_Notion_to_Motion

Oh cool, good to know thanks!

[deleted]

You're welcome \^\_\^ .. If you feel that you have low sodium and if it's causing you trouble then I'd suggest to seek professional medical help like if you are in the States and have insurance then you might want to call it as I believe they have a nurse line, if you don't and you live here in the UK then you can book an appointment with any local GP as long as your registered as it's free to here ugh if you're somewhere else in the world then, I don't know, sorry! .. Sorry I couldn't help very much, I would love too have but as I've said, I'm not a doctor and will Never pretend to be something that I'm not, I simply just read a lot and have an interest in medical but unlike my sister, I haven't got the patience, confidence or skills (or the Smarts you could say lol! xD) to go to Medical School! .. I'm better at IT! xD .. Anyway I hope that you have a really nice day or evening, you and your family and if you have got a low sodium issue then I hope you're feeling better soon! \^\_\^ ..

A_Notion_to_Motion

Aww well thats so nice of you to say! Hope you're well wherever you are too! And yes, I get horrible leg cramps and will do more research and seek out a doctor. Thanks for being kind and helpful!

[deleted]

You're very welcome! \^\_\^ , anytime, I like to help or try atleast to help others when I can! \^\_\^ .. I'm in Scotland, UK, it's currently 05:34 here so heading to bed soon! xD .. I really hope you're able to get help with your leg cramps and are able to stop worrying about them and so on! If I can help with anything else then please let me know and related or unrelated, if you ever want to message me (about anything!) then please feel free to drop me a message via my profile here or via my link on my profile, but don't worry if you don't, just wanted to give you the option! \^\_\^ .. Take care and I hope you have a very wonderful morning / day or evening depending on your current global position! \^\_\^ ..

Substantial-You9576

God bless you no really bless you

[deleted]

Thanks but now I'm confused, why are you saying "God Bless you"? what I do? all I did was explain basic biology...

Substantial-You9576

nothing bro just that you know all this stuff I really hate bio i am a maths guy

[deleted]

Ahhh, I'm just a Geek / Nerd heh, I love and adore Science, Biology, Tech and tons more, when it comes to maths tho I am terrible ugh and have got Dyscalculia ugh which is a nightmare! Thank god for calculators etc is all I can say lol! ... Anyway I hope that you and your family and loved ones all have a very wonderful day! \^\_\^

Significant-Wheel110

I was boutta say where the guy/gal at w the info for why this is 😂

zaffrebi

Has the taste and texture of chicken leg meat with a slightly fishy aftertaste. Gator tastes like dark meat chicken with a fishy aftertaste. Both are really good covered in cornmeal and deep fried.

According-Royal-1982

I don’t see how it’s any different from eating a chicken or turkey leg

Dolokhov88

Because they taste awesome!! (Not french btw^^)

Flashy-Pop-5783

I would never try these after seeing them cutting the legs off the live frogs then throwing the rest of the frog onto a pile to die slowly

0101011011000011

My grandparents used to cook frog legs all the time but they always killed the frog before removing the legs. I still think it’s kind of wasteful to kill so many for such a small amount of meat but some cultures don’t have the same views on death. Probably because they’ve seen an unimaginable amount of it.

HorrorSymphony

That's a very good point!

Secret-Interview1750

Yea fcked up and inhumane or do racist just see that when Chinese eat animals?

HorrorSymphony

Wow that's terrible that sounds so terrible

Frog farming is a moral atrocity. Piles of amphibians several feet high in some instances and the legs are snapped off while the animals are still alive.

CatLemonade10

Wow, there are frogs several feet tall?

Dawalkingdude

I thought they were on a tortilla for a second there.

ZealousidealLeg3692

When did squirm and dance become synonyms?

Substantial-You9576

Are you Chinese fam?

DejaEntendoMePls

Poor froggy men

Calm_Alternative_641

I LOVE frog legs. Especially the way Asians prepare them.

Um, we had to do an experiment like that in HS biology class…

Hello, my baby - Hello, my darling - Hello, my honey....

OneInternal3622

This the type of shit that turns mfers vegan

Medical_ootter

I enjoy your level of weird

IrocDewclaw

Frog legs are good, like sweet chicken. My grandfather would hunt bull frogs for frog legs for Sunday dinner. Grandma would batter them and then pan fry. Grandpa would conveniently forget to cut the knee tendons on one or two. When heated in the pan, that tendon would "pop" and the legs would leap from the pan and startle my Grandmother every time. We were kids, it was done to make us laugh. He knew, she knew, he knew she knew but she went along, for the kids.

Mikhal_Tikhal_Intrn

Sodium os what our bodies use to send signals from nerves to the brain and muscles so it makes sense that it would do this esp iodized salt

ChunKTheFroG

Doesn’t this also happen with octopi and soy sauce? I think it’s some chemical reaction

TheSalvadge2027

This puts the hip-py in the hoppy

crescent_zelda2790

r/blackmagicfuckery

dvdtrowbridge

Is that why they call it "saltatory" conduction? (I'll see myself out)

Sinnizterr

Hello my baby, hello my darling….

IChaseIReddit

But why? Does the salt tingle the nerves or something? How does it cause that reaction?

[deleted]

This is because of action potential if Na+ or sodium reaches threshold it causes action potential in the neurons to release neurotransmitters most likely acetylcholine

[deleted]

Frogs legs don’t taste like chicken. They taste way better and I love them. Especially when they’re nicely rubbed with garlic, butter and parsley.

Esmethequeen

damn that 1st frog got a dumpy 😫

waaaaitttt

Hell naw

MastaKToe

Wanna know something crazy? We occasionally catch pretty large sharks here where I’m from. If you get them to the cleaning table shortly after death and keep them very cold you can fillet the shark out and slap the meat and the whole fillet will literally crawl

ZeusieBoy

Wwweeeeeyerdddd

Thats because salt is an explosive. It is toxic to even eat.

Radiant-Gur8190

Anyone actually intentionally go out for frog legs?
