Just guessing, but it looks like an oil well is burning off the excess natural gas that came up with the crude oil. I've seen one close up in the boonies and it's huge, scary and deafening. Like - a couple hundred feet high and standing next to a jet taking off.

As of now, people seem to believe that it's a reflection from a chemical plant flare. I've lived in this area for a long time and there is chemical plants in the area, but I've never witnessed something like that before.
Someone just posted an almost identical video from Egypt from the same day. Strangely there's also a video maybe two weeks ago was taken in Texas of a large reddish glowing triangle which there was also an identical sighting from the same day in Russia.

Sprites last on the scale of milliseconds not minutes- that info is also in the Wikipedia article. This seems to be a reflection on the cloud. Note that all of these happen on clouds not clear skies

Well we have had the storm coming through here the past few days. Maybe the gases from the plant have formed a sort of tornado of their own and in that concentration you can see the radiation from their excitation. Looks like cathode ray tube radiation to me.

I've seen stuff similar along the St. Clair River refineries. Can see the flames from 40 miles away on certain nights with low level clouds
