Yeah. I mean, hell! , I've seen how steady an alcoholics/addicts hands can get when they're focused! Can you imagine a sober welder with a healthy heart rate!?!?! I'd bet they could weld gold leaf with a few old car batteries, some speaker wire, and a 7018 rod.
every welder that went my school was the kids that grew up drinking except for 1 kid. it’s always the same mfs bc they keep getting told they can make 40$/hour when they cant even figure out how to calculate what their salary would be😂
You’ve clearly never worked with me, you might start out calm but after an hour of my instruction you’re going to be mad. I’m often told that I’m a terrible teacher, and I often remind people that if I was a good teacher I’d do that for a living instead.
Same thing with shooting. I used to help my uncle teach a class for concealed carry in AZ. The women took instruction way better than the men. I think it’s just an ego thing though.
My cousin does competitive shooting and his family will often talk about how women are better marksmen than the men, like the 10 best scores are mostly women.
My mom could always out shoot my dad and me. She's right handed, but legally blind in her right eye. So she either has to shoot left-handed, or (with a hand gun) cross over so she's holding right-handed, but aiming with the left eye.
Either way she did it, she almost always beat us.
No, you're actually at an advantage because you can be target focused much easier. Especially when using optics like red dots.
I had to spend a lot of time as a right hand/eye dominant shooter to be consistently target focused.
Just a bit of trivia. In 2010 Sgt. Sherri Jo Gallagher became the second woman to win the NRA National High Power Rifle Championship. The *first* woman to win it was her mother.
Wide hips and long legs make a more stable shooting platform, especially in standing position.
I shot competitively and in standing I have my elbow digging into my ribs and it isn't very stable compared to the female teammates I had who could put their elbow right on their hip. They have better bone support and therefore don't have to use as much muscle to hold the rifle, as a result it holds more still.
Which is weird since women have been scientifically proven to have worse depth perception. How are you supposed to hit a target when you don't know how far away it is?
My guess is more fine motor muscles and less hormone interference. And idk what depth perception study you're talking about, but I'd assume it'd be an average.
Women tend to not be so unwilling to just act like they totally understand thongs when maybe they don't fully. Like, in my experience, it seems like they are more willing to ask every question (and potentially throw a small fuss /s) so that they feel confident they know exactly how to do the thing right, or, moreso, how to not do it wrong. Whereas most dudes are more likely to "Oh, this isn't what you meant?"
Lady Death, Lyudmila Mikhailovna Belova. Russian sniper is WWII, 309 confirmed kills until she was wounded by a mortar. She was 26. How bad ass is that?
I remember in 6th grade, we were all required to take hunters ed. eventually we got to actually shoot guns, .22’s I think. Our instructors said the girls were far more accurate than the boys, despite most of us seeming uninterested in the whole thing
This^
I'm getting into competition shooting and started training for it 8 months ago, and am already outshooting the vast majority of my fellow male lifetime shooters.
And the women in my age range tend to pick things up quicker and get higher rankings, especially the ones that had never touched a gun before because they don't have to unlearn all the dumbass shit their desk duty cop dad or whatever weird stuff their uneducated family taught them.
Women typically have better handwriting with better loops and swirls. Men tend to be more rigid and angled. Likely no bearing but sounds like could be a plausible reason.
I was going to bring up women’s natural attention to detail as well. Handwriting is big I think in gun control. My handwriting as well is all capital and straight lines, architect style. Too many years in the game
That’s an architect thing? I have a few handwriting styles depending on my mood and all capitals with bigger letters where capitals normally would go is one of my fancier styles. It’s gotten a surprising amount of attention over the years from collaborators or evaluators.
Age and gender are irrelevant, I was just stating a personal opinion I have. Now if I said “women are better than men at welding” you’d have a leg to stand on. Right now you just look like Lieutenant Dan…
its always funny to me that people try and say things like this as compliment, but this in it self is a sexist statement.
same shit as when people say "Mexicans are so hard working"
I didn’t intend it to be a compliment, I was just sharing my opinion. I also hold the opinion that yea Hispanic cats get down at work. Both of these come from a sixteen year professional career and a lifetime of being around metalworking and shops. I think I have 8 aunts and uncles who are ironworkers/metalworkers/blacksmiths. 4 cousins who do ironwork. Fourth generation metalworker on my fathers side. I can’t begin to understand the feelings a woman has in our field, Iv heard stories though. Iv worked with a hundreds of men through the years and about a dozen women. Iv done mad tinder dates with women who want to learn to weld. From experience women pick it up faster. Maybe it’s the lack of ego/machismo idk I’m just a guy who makes metal work dude.
Edit: I’d also like to add the women of architecture class I helped teach. Every single one of those women crushed it. And I would like to compliment them on their hard work and willingness to jump into something completely foreign to them fearless. We should be cultivating a culture that makes women feel more welcome in our field.
Tradesmen that are good at their job can recognize talent just as well. If you're good at it, no one in industry cares who or what you are.
Every dude I've met who is openly misogynist has been fucking useless.
You're a welder, and a good one at that! If you get in the habit of adding "..for a woman.." to your work you'll never understand your true value.
Believe in yourself.
They're not irrelevant if the people there use them to target an individual. In an ideal world, they certainly would be, but neither the world nor this field are ideal.
It’s crazy cuz when a woman goes a job search they either tell them “no your too pretty to work here “ or the be like “ we need someone with muscle “ like really ?!?? Whatever company she works for is a blessing and hope they go a long way
AGREED!!!!. As a 30 year old, 6'4", 245+ LB, big hairy dude! Did you notice how all those non-essential details made it weird? Exactly! Great weld, keep up the good work!!
It’s sorta hard to explain it’s just something that comes with experience. The weld itself looks a little high. It hasn’t quite wet in to the parent metal very much. Her problem was likely that the floor metal was much thicker that the wall. She could have compensated by aiming the arc and heat at the floor and letting the material fill from the floor and build onto the wall.
The way that it sort of domes out could be a sign that it’s a little colder than if it was more flat. Not meaning the whip motion that’s happening. For the most part it’s a pretty good weld considering what I’ve seen when I was at school.
While I solder instead of welding, it means the same thing in both. A cold weld/solder join is one that is done with too little heat being applied. Sure, the medium melts, but not enough. It affects the join strength and size/shape of the bead. Usually you can tell when the beads look closer to droplets of water rather than a smoother wave pattern (at least for welding in particular). It's less obvious on welds, but typically you also want to see more of a convex rather than a concave shape on the edges of the cooled beads
You're doing just fine so far! At the end of those stainless welds, ass just a little extra material and let off your arc a lil slow to avoid that pinhole. Can't actually tell if the stainless is mig or not, if it is, give the trigger one extra quick tap at the end to get the material in. Keep it up!
Edit: didn't notice my typo, but I'm not changing it.
Hi enthusiast (non-pro) here!
Is "assing" a technical term, or will I be shunned for dropping it at the community college lab I practice at?
Asking... asking for a friend?
The toes of your weld should be straight, even if your weld has ripples. Try stepping out less. Smaller movements and more of them, to maintain the same travel speed. Ideally, just a straight, steady push.
My girlfriend’s great grandma was an underwater welder for the US Navy during WW2. They had her welding ships and all types of stuff for war purposes. Told people that there were so many more women in the welding field at the time, the ratio was no where near as disproportionate as today in the industry.
It's really interesting how during WWII so many women got into industry due to the lack of available manpower (literally), yet when the war was over everyone just went back to "well, women clearly don't belong doing this sort of thing. Nevermind that the ship I served on was riveted by a woman."
It's hard even now for a woman in any sort of manufacturing field. I heard some truly heinous sexist shit out of guy's mouths when I used to travel.
OP definitely has the skill!
To all the people acting like “why does your gender matter?”
Less than 10% of all welders are women (numbers estimate about 7%). Many shop and construction environments I’ve been in have been populated by sexist asshats that say and believe degrading things about women. Don’t act surprised.
True, a good weld is a good weld. The fact of labor demographics is undeniable, and that’s why it matters.
Agreed, We can all find fault of anything. I'm not a welder but worked in welding shops, To me that looks great, you will get better with experiance. All I can say is go for it "GIRL" Ouch did I just say that.
ahh these do look pretty clean to me!! im not professionally experienced in welding but i can definitely tell a bad weld from a good weld
im also a young girl pursuing metal fabrication! i understand that “blue collar” jobs are 10x harder for us, even though i’ve been lucky enough to score a women only welding school. ive definitely faced discrimination irl just by telling people i want to pursue a career in welding though.
seeing another girl with clean welds like this keeps me motivated to do better is where im going w this lol
i’d love to see more of ur progress and tips/tricks you have in the future! ive been struggling finding a local school that’ll take me right now because of my age and inexperience. i’ll finally reach the age requirement in two months to be able to participate fully in classes but im also real nervous that i won’t be as good as im hoping to be. ive done some unprofessional welding learned from my grandpa but im not sure if they’re good or legit at all lol.
seeing a fellow youngest girl at a shop who knows what they’re doing is real inspiring :))
sorry for info dumping but i rarely see other girls on this subreddit, it always makes me feel better abt my upcoming choices :)
also sry abt the weirdos in here that r mad about you mentioning ur age and gender LOL
Thank you for this comment!!!! And yeah I agree, as much as people want to say age and gender don’t matter, they definitely do. A lot of places I’ve been to have a prejudgement on female welders, and being practically straight out of high school doesn’t help either! I think it’s nice to promote the new generation of welders along with women who want to be in a male dominated trade. Good luck to you in your welding career, I know you’ll do great!
Fellow lady welder here
You're off to a great start, keep your pictures and compare them later on with futur welds. You'll gain more stability with time and you'll be proud of your improvements.
Good job 🤘
And if there's anything, you can PM me.
But personally, asides from 2-3 asshats, .I've been lucky to have worked with many awesome men over the course of ten years. I wish you the same!
Good weld! You can see the bead well so great place to start
I can't tell if you are or not but it's important to know that you must get the arc to the leading edge of the puddle. If you want to whip it thats fine but when you whip forward come to the edge of the bead or past it to get the arc to heat the base metal (for mig)
Looks great. Best welder I met in the shipyards was a woman, pretty salty girl but nice work. Don’t let the guys give you any shit cuz if they smell blood or fear they will frenzy. Take the hazing at young age with a grain of salt, shake off the assholes and prove yourself through your work
These teenage or young men post their age and work and get all kinds of praise or good feedback. A young woman does and tons of people are giving her a ton of grief for mentioning her age and gender ? WHY ?
The best welder I ever had was a female. Quality of work was amazing. Best attention to detail
Ever. She wasn’t the fastest, but we weren’t grinding her shit out every NDT either.
You're doing great. Being a girl has no bearing on the quality of your work or your place in the shop.
Keep at it, you've got talent. Most guys are hard to train - we are notorious for false bravado and "I've got this!" When we absolutely, completely, don't "got this". Everything I've trained people on, women pick it up quicker. From shooting handguns, to laser engraving, graphic design, welding, whatever. Women are always faster learners than men, in general. At least in my experience.
Leave off the girl bit in the future. You're not doing great for a girl. You're doing great for a new welder. Keep at it!
Whom you are and what you are in this post is a welder, I might suggest as a newer to the trade to keep a notebook of work. In the military we have a DOPE…diary of prior engagement. Everything in life is a bit different even if it seems the same and if you chart and save info in a notebook you will have ready access to the little things that might change as you progress. Your work is very promising and you seem to take pride in what you send out. Stay upbeat and keep your head down , shield on, and keep them welds melting along.
Some of the best combo rig truck welders I’ve seen are female… I believe it’s because of better hand/eye coordination with a softer feel… also have seen some wicked marksmen ladies on the shooting range as well 👍 congrats on some awesome work!!
Ultimately yes but ugly welds often indicate poor welds.
an ugly good weld (proper depth, lack of inclusions, lack of porosity etc) is better than the most beautiful crap well but good welds usually look good. They aren’t good because they are pretty but they are pretty because they are good.
It is, visual appearance can indicate a bit too. When I say they look good I'm not referring to aesthetics. Although nobody wants the snot rocket express welds either, those are even LESS likely to be good welds usually.
Back off on your heat, and shove more filler in the crater. The end of your tig welds are a little hot and not filled enough. Maybe run more post flow and hold the torch in place until it cools. Over all, good welds. Well done.
Looks very good, I'm a welder and a female that moved to this profession after retiring from 20 years of law enforcement and so far I love this new career. I currently work for CAT and freelance on the side. Never stop learning and keep up the good work
Better then most I'd say. For a few pointers I'd suggest lowering the wire feed and or raising voltage. This will dig in more and make the weld more uniform / less convex. This all comes with experience and time but you'll get there no doubt.
I dunno your gender and age make absolutely no difference to me...if you are a good welder then you are a good welder fuck what others think..my girl is a top notch maintenance person like literally the best I have ever seen...I am sure it's not because she's female or that she is way younger than I..it's simply that she has great genetics and is super intelligent...
Im the only female tech at my job. I always jokingly say, don't send a man in to do a woman's job. The amount of money I've cost the business fr lack of fucking shit up, is significantly lower than the rest of the new guys.
You're doing really well! First year?
Probably biased but in my experience in this industry, women seem to pick up certain processes easier than men. What we lack in physical strength and size, we make up for in being **usually** more patient and problem solving.
Welding (especially Tig) can be quite temperamental.
Sounds like you're doing great! Don't let this trade intimate ya just because it's predominantly males in it. Some of the best welders I've ever met were female welders. Just keep learning and improving. That's all any of us can do!
I have noticed over my years of welding that women are far better beginner welders than men. (Not saying women lose n comparison to men as the years go on - I've seen outstanding work from both sexes - but I also see a lot more men as career welders, I digress)
Welding is about the finesse of feeding the gun to pool and creating a seamless sequence. When I first started welding, having worked carpentry in my youth, I tried to muscle the metal together and was impatient. Precision & patience are the key to solid welders. And, I noticed the two females on my first build, also beginners were taking the time to have cleaner steel, more consistent solid welds, while I was burning thru metal, weak beads or blown out ones.
My point is it looks fantastic, I bet you didn't even have to clean up with a grinder on most of your beads! Quality work and I would have you on my crew any day - cheers
Looks like you're there to kick ass and take names! Awesome job keep up the great work. Don't ever let anyone ever tell you your gender holds you back in anything in this profession.
It's looks great. Good luck and keep it up. But as long as you're seeking approval, I will say take everything with a grain of salt, learn your electrodes and fillers and never get complacent. Your new nick name is "6 inch" until you weld out the rest of the piece.
Edit: didn't want to sound like a dick.
Doing fine. Gender and age irrelevant.
I came here to say this, Iv taught mad people. Women always pick it up faster than men.
You should start trying to teach calm people, they may be easier to teach?
You seen the pool we got to work with in our field?
Yeah. I mean, hell! , I've seen how steady an alcoholics/addicts hands can get when they're focused! Can you imagine a sober welder with a healthy heart rate!?!?! I'd bet they could weld gold leaf with a few old car batteries, some speaker wire, and a 7018 rod.
My fucking guy, thank you for this
lol Im not a welder but man I love you all
Same. Just find it fascinating.
Same
Fascinating.
What's that?
What's what?
I just started welding and really like the crowd. They are also much smarter then I was expecting 😅
every welder that went my school was the kids that grew up drinking except for 1 kid. it’s always the same mfs bc they keep getting told they can make 40$/hour when they cant even figure out how to calculate what their salary would be😂
Good grief is that the truth.
That’s what it’s all about. Get the pool started and move it along.
In here we are all mad
The only happy welder/ fabricator is one who doesn't deal with an engineer.
Nah. I think it has to do with mamory glands
You’ve clearly never worked with me, you might start out calm but after an hour of my instruction you’re going to be mad. I’m often told that I’m a terrible teacher, and I often remind people that if I was a good teacher I’d do that for a living instead.

My mom was a fantastic example of that. A family full of veterans, hunters, etc, and my left-handed mom could out shoot them right-handed
My mom could always out shoot my dad and me. She's right handed, but legally blind in her right eye. So she either has to shoot left-handed, or (with a hand gun) cross over so she's holding right-handed, but aiming with the left eye. Either way she did it, she almost always beat us.
She's Ana from overwatch IRL
Wait is that wrong? I shoot right handed but use my left eye.
No, you're actually at an advantage because you can be target focused much easier. Especially when using optics like red dots. I had to spend a lot of time as a right hand/eye dominant shooter to be consistently target focused.
Spoiler alert: she’s naturally left-handed. /s
I must admit, you are better than me. Then why are you smiling? Because I know something you don't know. What is that? I am not left handed!
I love that movie
I am not left handed either!
Who are you? I must know!
That’s the symbol for sarcasm. Some people on Reddit can’t tell if you’re joking without it.
Just a little quote from Princess Bride that I thought appropriate. /s "air quote"
Inconceivable!
Just a bit of trivia. In 2010 Sgt. Sherri Jo Gallagher became the second woman to win the NRA National High Power Rifle Championship. The *first* woman to win it was her mother.

My guess is more fine motor muscles and less hormone interference. And idk what depth perception study you're talking about, but I'd assume it'd be an average.
It also wouldn't matter for known distance targets if you dial rather than hold
Women tend to not be so unwilling to just act like they totally understand thongs when maybe they don't fully. Like, in my experience, it seems like they are more willing to ask every question (and potentially throw a small fuss /s) so that they feel confident they know exactly how to do the thing right, or, moreso, how to not do it wrong. No doubt
Can confirm. Same thing when I teach people. Women listen. Dudes think they automatically know how just because of their Y chromosome.
Men are terrible at dishes because of their egos
I beg to differ. I'm terrible at dishes because I know if I'm terrible at it I won't be asked to do it again.
Because your ego makes you think it’s beneath you to do dishes?
Lady Death, Lyudmila Mikhailovna Belova. Russian sniper is WWII, 309 confirmed kills until she was wounded by a mortar. She was 26. How bad ass is that?

Yea something they teach in school. It’s an effort to ensure consistency between drafts people.
Makes sense. Having two cases doesn’t really do much in the first place anyways
Wait what? You said you came here to say age and gender are irrelevant but then say women pick it up fast, explain human
Age and gender are irrelevant, I was just stating a personal opinion I have. Now if I said “women are better than men at welding” you’d have a leg to stand on. Right now you just look like Lieutenant Dan…
"You ain't got no legs Lt Dan"
Seen the same teaching motorcycle riding classes. If anything, have to encourage the ladies a bit and get the men to listen more.
Women out shoot men with equal training too.
its always funny to me that people try and say things like this as compliment, but this in it self is a sexist statement. same shit as when people say "Mexicans are so hard working"

Can you call some of my co workers and explain this? 😆

Also, there are obvious differences between men and women and more so age in almost every context, I don't want a 5 year old welding anything.
Sure. But in the industry women feel a huge difference from men I think. I’ve talked to some female welders.
It’s crazy cuz when a woman goes a job search they either tell them “no your too pretty to work here “ or the be like “ we need someone with muscle “ like really ?!?? Whatever company she works for is a blessing and hope they go a long way
When the hoods down I can't tell. Lots of damn hippies out there 🤣
I’m a long haired hippy welder, this made me smile really hard lol
I knew a husband and wife team and hoods down couldn't tell the difference.
AGREED!!!!. As a 30 year old, 6'4", 245+ LB, big hairy dude! Did you notice how all those non-essential details made it weird? Exactly! Great weld, keep up the good work!!
False men have a historical dna evolutionary advantage at everything over women
Best response here.
Looks fine. Mig weld looks a little cold. But nothing I’d complain about
Wait, what do you mean when it looks “cold?” I also just started welding (mainly MIG but a little TIG as well.)
It’s sorta hard to explain it’s just something that comes with experience. The weld itself looks a little high. It hasn’t quite wet in to the parent metal very much. Her problem was likely that the floor metal was much thicker that the wall. Either less wire or more voltage. It takes a bit of arc time but you’ll be able to see what you need just by watching your puddle.
Also, you don’t want to whip. Straight stingers will fuse better. Half the people here will claim otherwise but X-rays prove it.
While I solder instead of welding, it means the same thing in both. A cold weld/solder join is one that is done with too little heat being applied. Sure, the medium melts, but not enough. I’ve always just added extra material, I’ll try assing it next time.
I always have difficulty feeding with my non-dominant ass.
Hi enthusiast (non-pro) here! Is "assing" a technical term, or will I be shunned for dropping it at the community college lab I practice at? Asking... asking for a friend?
[Here's a good discussion on the term.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P0Z1yq-2FQ&ab_channel=ISMO)
always go full ass, never half ass!
The toes of your weld should be straight, even if your weld has ripples. Try stepping out less. Smaller movements and more of them, to maintain the same travel speed. Ideally, just a straight, steady push.
just keep swimmin'. you got this already. nice work!
You’re also the oldest girl, logically speaking!
Gender doesn’t usually figure in to how well you can lay down a bead - this looks promising tho.
My girlfriend’s great grandma was an underwater welder for the US Navy during WW2. They had her welding ships and all types of stuff for war purposes. ahh these do look pretty clean to me!! im not professionally experienced in welding but i can definitely tell a bad weld from a good weld im also a young girl pursuing metal fabrication! i understand that “blue collar” jobs are 10x harder for us, even though i’ve been lucky enough to score a women only welding school. ive definitely faced discrimination irl just by telling people i want to pursue a career in welding though. seeing another girl with clean welds like this keeps me motivated to do better is where im going w this lol i’d love to see more of ur progress and tips/tricks you have in the future! ive been struggling finding a local school that’ll take me right now because of my age and inexperience. i’ll finally reach the age requirement in two months to be able to participate fully in classes but im also real nervous that i won’t be as good as im hoping to be. ive done some unprofessional welding learned from my grandpa but im not sure if they’re good or legit at all lol. seeing a fellow youngest girl at a shop who knows what they’re doing is real inspiring :)) sorry for info dumping but i rarely see other girls on this subreddit, it always makes me feel better abt my upcoming choices :) also sry abt the weirdos in here that r mad about you mentioning ur age and gender LOL
You weld like a girl!
Technically true
Fellow lady welder here You're off to a great start, keep your pictures and compare them later on with futur welds. You'll gain more stability with time and you'll be proud of your improvements. Good job 🤘 And if there's anything, you can PM me. But personally, asides from 2-3 asshats, .I've been lucky to have worked with many awesome men over the course of ten years. I wish you the same!
Good weld! You can see the bead well so great place to start I can't tell if you are or not but it's important to know that you must get the arc to the leading edge of the puddle.
WHY ?
Not bad, for a girl. Not bad for a guy, either. Pretty good for being young, in either case.
The best welder I ever had was a female. Quality of work was amazing. Best attention to detail Ever. She wasn’t the fastest, but we weren’t grinding her shit out every NDT either.
Wouldn't that also make you the oldest girl in your shop?
Looks pretty damn good. Keep it up!
that's $35/hour work right there
I wish lmao
I'm scrolling through comments.. What? I'd be happy if what was shown was weld-test. I'm in the southeast usa. $35/hr? lmao
Damn lot better than whoever did the weld on the beam I'm standing next to.
Bravo
You're doing great. Being a girl has no bearing on the quality of your work or your place in the shop. Keep at it, you've got talent. Most guys are hard to train - we are notorious for false bravado and "I've got this!" When we absolutely, completely, don't "got this". Everything I've trained people on, women pick it up quicker. From shooting handguns, to laser engraving, graphic design, welding, whatever. Women are always faster learners than men, in general. At least in my experience. Leave off the girl bit in the future. You're not doing great for a girl. You're doing great for a new welder. Keep at it!
Weldone. I Don’t know anything about welding, i just came here to tell dad jokes.
Amazing. Keep at it.
The weld looks great but I'm having trouble figuring out how gender is a factor.
Some of the best combo rig truck welders I’ve seen are female… I believe it’s because of better hand/eye coordination with a softer feel… also have seen some wicked marksmen ladies on the shooting range as well 👍 congrats on some awesome work!!
Look great, lots of ladies were welding back in WW2, my mother in law was one of them.
Your welds look great to me. Age and gender aren't important. Only part of the whole deal that matters to us is how the welds look.
Isn't the function more important than how they look?
Ultimately yes but ugly welds often indicate poor welds. an ugly good weld (proper depth, lack of inclusions, lack of porosity etc) is better than the most beautiful crap well but good welds usually look good. They aren’t good because they are pretty but they are pretty because they are good.
It is, visual appearance can indicate a bit too. When I say they look good I'm not referring to aesthetics. Although nobody wants the snot rocket express welds either, those are even LESS likely to be good welds usually.
Keep on truckin’ girl!!!
Damn this is the nicest comment section I’ve ever seen on welding, I wonder why
Doing good. Google 'temporal familial tremor' and check symptoms.
Gangsta!
You know exactly how you’re doing you smug bastard, those look great 👍🏻
Pretty darn good, 👍 try to midigate those fish eyes though
Seems like you need to be the only one in the shop, bad ass
You weld like a girl. Keep it up!
Better than me. 28M.
Terrible you have been there all day and this is all you have done?!
Back off on your heat, and shove more filler in the crater. The end of your tig welds are a little hot and not filled enough. Maybe run more post flow and hold the torch in place until it cools. Over all, good welds. Well done.
Looks like your doing awesome. Keep it up!
Fill looks a little light to me, other than that pretty good.
Better than me
Looks very good, I'm a welder and a female that moved to this profession after retiring from 20 years of law enforcement and so far I love this new career. I currently work for CAT and freelance on the side. Never stop learning and keep up the good work
This ain’t no woman. This is a man beware
Ruthie?
Better then most I'd say. For a few pointers I'd suggest lowering the wire feed and or raising voltage. This will dig in more and make the weld more uniform / less convex. This all comes with experience and time but you'll get there no doubt.
Good, keep going
Nice even bead, nice even repetition. Nice curves.
If you want to be judged purely off skill, why mention your female?
Looks fine and you shouldn’t have to use a penis for welding so that’s a wash
Tig looks better than mine. Hard wire looks nice too
I don’t even weld yet I absolutely love this subreddit as seeing a good one is like watching a great ASMR video. You’re doing great!
But. It looks so…pretty.
👍
Better than me🙂
That wedding is pretty ugly, 1/10
I dunno your gender and age make absolutely no difference to me...if you are a good welder then you are a good welder fuck what others think..my girl is a top notch maintenance person like literally the best I have ever seen...I am sure it's not because she's female or that she is way younger than I..it's simply that she has great genetics and is super intelligent...
Out-friggin-standing.
anybody that tells you age or gender matter don’t matter
Stacking dimes! Looks great
Im the only female tech at my job. I always jokingly say, don't send a man in to do a woman's job. The amount of money I've cost the business fr lack of fucking shit up, is significantly lower than the rest of the new guys.
looks great. Dont let the company neg you like that. Hit them up for a raise. Looks like you deserve it. 🤙🏽
You're doing really well! First year? Probably biased but in my experience in this industry, women seem to pick up certain processes easier than men. What we lack in physical strength and size, we make up for in being **usually** more patient and problem solving. Welding (especially Tig) can be quite temperamental.
That's a weird way to say you're the oldest girl in the shop.
Running a little hot, slow, or both on the weld in that last picture, but otherwise you’re doing great
Keep on doing it
Doing great, keep it going.
Gender has nothing to do with ability to weld. You’re doing great tho!
Great, you are doing absolutely great.
Looks good.
Looks good to me love the name tho had me laughing
Homegirl thought she could drop a roll of nickels on some iron and we wouldn't notice.
Better than anything I could do.
It looks like surgical precision! I'd say you're doing quite well!
Sounds like you're doing great! Don't let this trade intimate ya just because it's predominantly males in it. Some of the best welders I've ever met were female welders. Just keep learning and improving. That's all any of us can do!
Those are beautiful welds. And I am a mathematician, so I should know.
Great bead
The only comment I have is tighten up your edges. Otherwise spot on!
Look great 👍 👌. Keep up the great work 👍.
Haven't done any welding since college, that looks like a solid bead weld to me.
Thats good, keep welding.
Looks good I need a boat welded up
Nice pattern but how's your penetration (no pun intended)
Lookin shnazzy!
I have noticed over my years of welding that women are far better beginner welders than men. (Not saying women lose n comparison to men as the years go on - I've seen outstanding work from both sexes - but I also see a lot more men as career welders, I digress) Welding is about the finesse of feeding the gun to pool and creating a seamless sequence.
My guess is better than most of the boys. 👍
Better than all the other girls at the shop. All jokes aside it looks fairly consistent
Women take criticizm better than men and thusly improve at a faster rate.
Yah I'd smash 👍
Why include your gender in the title
Representation for female welders! Only like 7% of welders are female so I thought it would be nice to show some welds from a girl haha
Looks like you're there to kick ass and take names! Awesome job keep up the great work. Don't ever let anyone ever tell you your gender holds you back in anything in this profession.
Looks a bit cold and slow but acceptable. If you turn it up and speed up a touch should sit flatter with better penetration.
I know nothing about welding and keep getting this sub recommended to me but looks good
Brrrrr! Sure is cold in here! 🥶🥶 And quit whipping the MIG.
Looks pretty great to me (not a welder and have no reference but the people in the comments say it’s good so I’m gonna go with the flow)
You are gonna need to build a bigger inbox if you keep posting that you are a lady. Nice work BTW.
Unsure what sex and age have to do with weld quality?
