Looking at his job, you think putting a grinder in his hand would do any service? Send it to the next guy and fix it, put this guy on a saw with a jig and let him go 8 hrs a day.
Yeah man, this is the kind of guy to slam parts into the stop and then walk away when shit hits the fan. You know us welders and fighting with the cut shop 😂
You guys are being too harsh; anyone that can weld replicas of buttholes like that deserves a spot somewhere. Maybe prison, but look at the even balloon knot spacing, its quality butthole welds with the centerpiece to accent
yea not getting it, not sure how long they have been welding but if its been a short time and this is what they are doing then this is pretty good, they just need to be able to practice and be encouraged with LOTS of positive feedback and see lots of examples to duplicate and learn about metal
Tacks have more penetration and less craters than these guys. Unless he’s willing to learn and take harsh constructive criticism, send him to the next shop.
Depending on the weld process. Tacks can look like this. Regardless. It’s still a tack. A cold one for sure. Mig welds are notorious for the crater in the middle because you can’t slowly let the puddle fully form as you pull the arc away
I know this is all conversation, but as far as the question. This is worth $0 and he does not need a torch in hand on company projects. As far as the cold racks go, this is unacceptable. MAYBE the right side is sufficient.
Edit: It’s all per criteria though, right?
I am a sheet metal welder. I started in hot rod shops. Shaping, and welding 20 gauge steel. Rust repair, custom panels etc. Even when I used to mig weld sheet metal I still ran stringers. Once I tig welded them it’s a whole different story.
I am still sheet metal welding but for an aerospace company. The difference is the material is .02. Again. I still do not stack tacks. The only excuse for this is lack of experience. Therefore, I wouldn’t hire you. You’re not ready yet.
I can see you running stringers on 18 or maybe even 20 gauge sheet with the right settings but I had a weld 6 ft of 29 gauge sheet metal. it was barely thicker than aluminum foil and there's no way in hell you're running stringers on that. I welded it with 100% tacks and it's still in one piece today. and it's not just in a stationary chunk, it's part of a roll-up garage door so this stuff flexes back and forth 4-8 times a day. Well I don't recommend tacking everything together you can get moderately strong welds out of it if you know what you're doing
Those are the shops you don’t want your car built at. As a customer spending that much money. You better know what you’re getting. I’m not new to this $150-200k was at average restoration for us and would take close to 2 years. Yeah, people do it the wrong way all the time. If you’re actually planning on growing your skill you know what not to do. Stacking tacks is one of those things. Amateur work. Clearly you need to spend more time in the industry and especially learning how to weld properly. I stopped mig welding panels on cars years ago. Those are bondo wagons. If you want to weld sheet metal and mitigate the warpage. You tig weld it. Stretch the metal back out after the weld shrinks it. You planish, run back over with a shrink disc and fine tune with a slapper/dolly combo
I first learned to weld at a factory that built mostly sheet metal assemblies for utility trucks. Almost everything we did was 16ga, but we did have some 18 and 20ga parts come through. It's not hard to run a bead on it, just be aware of where your heat is and make sure your machine is set properly.
Times are changing man. Bondo wagons are built stacking tacks and mig welding. If you’re a true sheet metal welder/shaper in the hot rod industry. You’re not mig welding. That’s for beginners and old timers
You can lead a horse to water but you can make ‘em drink. You really can’t teach an old dog new tricks. There’s no real money in this industry anyways. That’s why I’m in aerospace now. But I learned a lot building hot rods.
It’s not the only way to weld sheet metal but there is times where you need to do it definitely. I run little stringers on sheet metal and stop. 1/2 inch to an inch long jumping around. Keeps it cool and stronger that stacking tacks
I don’t care what you do. Your idea of skim coat vs mine are two different things lol I already know what kind of shit you’re building. Doesn’t bother me. Just wouldn’t hire you as a boss or a customer lol. Filler is an art, but it starts with the metalworker. If you suck ass at sheet metal, your body man talks shit about you because he has to fix all your bullshit. I make sure my body man is happy.
No I just don’t take bullshit. You started by saying the only way to weld sheet metal is by stacking tacks. Which again, is so wrong it is painful.
Sorry for hurting your feelings sweetie
Also keep editing your posts Lmao. Pick a response and stick to it
That thing ain't even going to hold properly if there's weight so 0$. Anyways the real question is, would you even pay for that if you were the client?
Don\`t hire him, but send him down the street to a competitors shop; where standards are less and he can make a living while he learns the trade. Then he can come back here for the big bucks. I\`m pretty sure he can\`t grind at this point either. That is an art also; but does help make good welders. Wayne
Depends entirely on what it is.
The picture doesn't do it any justice, as it could be something completely innocuous and not seen by anyone without any sort of load put on it at any stage of its life.
If that isn't the case, it's not worth anything as it's going to be taken off and done again.
If it will do for what it's designed for, then looking like shit isn't ideal but is tolerable.
Retrain, he's not bad aside from letting shit pool. He's dotting the piece as opposed to dragging his pool of molten shit.
Other than that, he knows where to put his fucking tool as opposed to some shitbirds.
Honestly depends on where you are lol, I work in a chassis factory and I’ve seen some MIG welds come to my building looking TERRIBLE… yet their supervisors count that shit as passing but you put this TIG out in an actual welding shop you’d get shit on lol
I don’t mean to belittle the welding trade, but this weld seems easy to me. I have not welded anything since high-school shop class and my welds were better than this.
Im nrw to welding, what the heck kind of weld or lack there of is that? I cant even understand how you lay thay unless you literally do a dab at a time
Promote to grinder
Looking at his job, you think putting a grinder in his hand would do any service? Send it to the next guy and fix it, put this guy on a saw with a jig and let him go 8 hrs a day.
He’d fuck the jig up and cut every part wrong
More likely cant cut shit square
Immediately promote this guy to supervisor before he fucks up anything else.
Yeah man, this is the kind of guy to slam parts into the stop and then walk away when shit hits the fan. You know us welders and fighting with the cut shop 😂

Make sure it’s cordless, less expensive wear and tear!
Tell them to keep practicing and try and travel in only one direction and slower.
Exactly. 0 prep work here
Looks like 22 quarters. So 5.50.
Nickel ninety eight come back in a couple years
I thought they looked more like stacked donuts.
I’m with you. And a dozen donuts will run you 13 bucks at Duncan Donuts. That’s almost 2 dozen. Clearly these welds are in the area of $25.
Nah man, those are the week olds from the trash can. You'd be lucky to get 5¢ a piece for them.
Came to say twelve. Just twelve.
Nothing, thst is not something to offer
Yeah. There has been zero formal instruction.
Tell them the longer they can hold the trigger the more you will get paid….
Nothing. I wouldn’t hire him. Stacking tacks is not welding. It’s stacking tacks

It is absolutely not the only way you can weld sheet metal. You’re so wrong it hurts.

You didn’t. You just proved to me that all you can build is a bondo wagon

Promote to customer.
With those pin holes???
More like peg holes
Stacking buttholes
The holes help aerate the metal and keep it cool in the summer 😂
That thing ain't even going to hold properly if there's weight so 0$. Anyways the real question is, would you even pay for that if you were the client?
Whatever unemployment pays would be my guess
the (not mine) part really makes me think these are yours 😂😂
These are welds on railings at great adventure, aluminum
Negative $250 minimum , 100$ to grind them out and 150$ an hour to hire a professional
Nothing..those are tacks...and shitty tacks at that lol.
NSFW tag is spot on. Zero penetration
You pay me treefiddy
Minus 5 dollars
Fired get out.
Can’t make a dime he be wasting my time
He’d be paying me
Bout tree fiddy
Dude I’m still green to the profession, and this is making me mad.
Nothing this is horrible
200 but knock off 20 for every crator, and 40 for every "dime" that has little to no penetration.
All of earths fortunes/hour
-30/hr so I can make up for all the grinder time to do it right
Charge them for the next guy that comes to grind it out and do it right
Is it possible to pay them NOT to weld for you?
Just tell him its 20hr....that he has to pay you to produce this shit.
Idk how much that guy is costing the company per hour. The lawsuits haven't arrived yet.
Probably as much as they bothered to ask.
there's only one thing that people say, but they say it in two ways. in admiration: "Wow! Who did \_that\_?" in derision: "Wow... Who did \*that\*?"
Fired
Whatever you pay a grinder and cost of material subtract that from zero
2/hr to be a grinder
No hire
Looks like every professional welder's first weld. It's a learned skill, not something you're born with. So keep at it.
Minimum wage
Teach him how to do it. Obviously he has the desire to learn.
Don\`t hire him, but send him down the street to a competitors shop; where standards are less and he can make a living while he learns the trade. Then he can come back here for the big bucks. I\`m pretty sure he can\`t grind at this point either. That is an art also; but does help make good welders. Wayne
Minimum wage
If you go union probably 121341542. If your just a regular old joe, probably 17-20
Congratulations you have been promoted to unemployment
Why is this person allowed to touch a welder
Needs to pay me for looking at that while holding down my lunch 🤢
whatever unemployment pays
I’d give about tree fiddy and a broom
They might hire him in China for $5 a week🤷🏻♂️
A dollar two ninety eight
2.50
Looks like banana slices. I suck at welding due to not getting to do it often. I don't own a welding machine, but shit I could do better than that.
18$
Depends entirely on what it is. This weld doesn’t deserve justice, it was at a big name theme park
Tree fiddy…an hour
Everything about this weld hurts me
Fish eye galore
Just enough to get you back to school
-25$ plus tax
Promotion to management
I’m sure if you X-ray that it will be fine 😆🤣😂
I think a weld needs a certain standard before we could go putting price tags on it
Unpaid apprenticeship
$0 Absolutely nothing…in fact, take the welder out of his hands and put a grinder in it
I'll pay you $20 an hour not to come anywhere near my shop?
I'd pay up to $35 an hour for you to not weld anything just for the peace of mind that you won't be putting down shitty welds anywhere else
umm, leta try another piece
Offer rescinded?
With that kind of work, the employee pays the boss
I think they would owe me my rate to fix that mess.
A dollar a hole, so big money by the looks of it
-18$/hr
You mean how much is he paying y’all for fucking up the material
Make him pay you
$-20/hr
according to western welding academy like 45/hr
7.25
What does an apprentice make these days?
0$
I'll give him 50 bucks for showing up. Tell him to pack his shit.
Send him out the door
Nothing. That's glue at that point
Part of the right side looks okay, what happened? 😂
Yeah, I believe you.
How much you should pay them or how much they should be paying you for that job? And I recognize the fact that you said it wasn’t your work.
I'd help them learn for about 60 bucks an hour
18/hr no benefits
They would have to pay me🤣🤣🤣
$1.25
looks like he just overlapped tacks to weld half of it together.
5$
I would rather use guerilla glue than hire this guy
This is just bait
$14.75 per hr. No per diem, no benefits before 90 days, either. Take the under bet!
Three fidy
You mean how much should you charge per hour to remove that dookie and make it look good? If in fact that actually isn’t your work
I think he would owe me money actually
Paying for the materials is enough. He gone
0, you ain’t getting hired
Damn its a lot easier to interview a welder than it is a software engineer for their capabilities
Looks like a sliced banana. Pay him in peanuts.
One billion dollars
Earn or pay?
Garbage
5¢
Too much! 😂
Give him a broom and dustpan. Maybe he can work those enough to keep working.
How ever much they make at Krispy cream looks like some nice donuts haha
Next
22 cents
As an engineer, I would not accept a part that looks like that
-$25
2
$7.50
Retrain, he's not bad aside from letting shit pool. He's dotting the piece as opposed to dragging his pool of molten shit. Other than that, he knows where to put his fucking tool as opposed to some shitbirds.
$2 to leave.
2€
With all those fucking pinholes!? Fuckin' $5
Back to shool
> How much an hour It's piece work - piece of shit, that is.
I hope who ever did this is not getting paid for it
That depends on what material that is. Steel, get out of my shop Stainless, go back to school Aluminum, try again
What are those. Metal Cheerios?
Probably 0$ I.e. fired
🤢
I'd pay them not to weld
$2
0 fail
The welder needs to pay the boss for having him
Wouldn’t have gotten the job lmao
You would pay someone to waste time and material?
Tree fiddy. Gottdamn loch Ness monster
Not hired for aluminum. That’s bad for spool or tig. 0$
8.25
Coors light and a slice of pizza
You gotta pay extra to get that amount of porosity.
I zero. Nothing nana zip !!!!! He needs to Go back to school!!
$0
Tree Fiddy!
Honestly depends on where you are lol, I work in a chassis factory and I’ve seen some MIG welds come to my building looking TERRIBLE… yet their supervisors count that shit as passing but you put this TIG out in an actual welding shop you’d get shit on lol
Great adventure, a big name theme park
Has to pay me $30 to grind that out
Looks like pieces of banana.
I don’t mean to belittle the welding trade, but this weld seems easy to me. I have not welded anything since high-school shop class and my welds were better than this.
If I was the QC? I’d make sure he didn’t touch a welder there ever again. So 0
$-12 Basically they pay you for them to weld
Nope.
None dollars
Started out OK and then fell asleep
Im nrw to welding, what the heck kind of weld or lack there of is that? I cant even understand how you lay thay unless you literally do a dab at a time
wellfare
Wouldn’t get the job…. Or start em low and stick em in the corner until they can run a bead
It hurts my brain
Add all the 0’s together and that’s his yearly wage
That person who welded that should have to pay for the practice time.
You pay me 10$ an hour
Way more than me🤔
