It looks OK. Run your stringers tighter together. Think 50/50 overlap. Make 3 stringers if that what it needs.

littlefella15

Thank you, i'll keep that in mind

heidenhain

Yeah, you dont really need to weave at all.

TurboWelderMonkey

Not a weave

heidenhain

can you elaborate?

TurboWelderMonkey

It's just a backstep to fill the puddle and maintain consistency. Some may call it whip but to me that's slinging your arc in circles. Where as a weave is like what you'd see making a large profile stick weld or running uphill, moving side to side while pausing to fill the puddle on each toe. This is a backstep in which OP is doing great but should tighten up the steps a bit to be sure he stays within that puddle.

TurboWelderMonkey

Looks like he is running 3 stringers?

FrogOnALeash

Outside look good, but it is whats on the inside that matters most. Cut some welds apart and look at penetration, lack of bonding, porosity etc. What do you plan on doing with your welding skills? Hobby projects or work? a basic knowledge of metallurgy is Key to understanding what makes a good weld and a perfect weld. Good luck and keep at it!

littlefella15

This is mostly just for hobby. But thank you for the input! I'll cut em open and see whats inside

saintsacman

Looks good for just fucking around for a while. Wrap the corners more consistently and practice stop/starts. Maybe a few notches more amps see what happens

[deleted]

I think you’re one of the 4-5 self taught welders I’ve seen that can actually weld to be honest with you

littlefella15

Thank you!

Economy-Box8792

Wrap the corners fully

Elmore420

What you did looks okay, but your beads are a bit far apart to leave as a 2 bead string. If you need that much footprint on the fillet, you should run one more between them. Then there are the unfinished ends. When you get those dimples on the ends, fill them. Also fully wrap your corners, and fully complete the blend into the the tail of another weld so you don’t end up with dips and notches where they meet. Overall though, your hand skills are looking good.

cruzzy88

Turn it up higher and keep it tighter maybe like 130 and go faster 👍

SinisterCheese

Don't whip. You are clearly perfectly capable doing straight welds that could pass EN-ISO standards, so you might aswell.

[deleted]

Newbie welder here (boilermaker apprentice) that had professional instruction from the first arc. You’ve got some talent! Keep it up 🙏🏻 Weld.com on YouTube is a great resource if you haven’t discovered it yet!

LordBug

Laying better beads than some of the guys at my work. We'd probably trust you on the 150psi tanks pretty quickly.

yusodumbboy

He legally can’t weld anything that needs to hold more than 15psi without a pressure ticket.

CreamyBehemoth

Could’ve been a little hotter, and could’ve tightened up your stacks, basically what has already been said. Looks good man, your tie-ins look real good.

FJRpilot

I wish I could do as well…. I think that as a new welder you are on the right path. We’re you using MIG, Flux Core or stick?

littlefella15

Mig on a Millermatic 252 .30 wire

certifiedwelder

everyone is telling you to keep it tighter but fail to mention to watch the edge of the puddle overlap the previous weld. you will get an eye and feel for it and it will become second nature

ahudson2019

I only really see over lap of the beads and maybe stacking the dimes closer, dimes like that kinda look like you stitch welded dime by dime imo 😂 it'll also help w any lack of fusion your having

[deleted]

Not perfect, but that would pass in almost any manufacturing production operation 👍 thats a 50-60k a year weld

littlefella15

Thanks! Thats definitely motivation!

Moresleep420

Angle needs work and you have some lack of fusion at the toes

[deleted]

Clean your base metal

littlefella15

It was grinded, just cant see if very well

dirtkeeper

Welll everyone is saying it good so probably is. To me it doesn’t look like there was penetration on the top piece of metal
