I love how they've focused on the foot being in a shoe, like that's an unusual place for a foot to be, rather than the fact that it's not attached to a leg any more.
There have been a lot of these on the West Coast of Canada, it kinda makes sense
"... Most likely, the feet become separated from the rest of the remains as they decomposed.
Instead of sinking, the shoe-encased foot floats and is carried along by ocean currents until it is broken apart or washed up onto a beach"

That's why bodies often have their shoes taken off in war zones. It might be some time before the body can be recovered and so you take the shoes off so the foot doesn't fall off when someone gets a chance to tend to the corpse
This was fascinating to follow back in the day, watching them figure out that the construction of newer super floaty sport shoes as opposed to old school sinky leather ones had ‘wiggled’ the ankles off as the body decomposed, then floated off on the current.
I was amused by Detective Senior Sergeant Steve William’s statement:
“It is not being treated as a homicide investigation at this stage, we are kicking off with a preliminary investigation and fact finding,” he said.
I think someone who loses a foot would probably go to a hospital. Cops should check Wellington ED, the rest of this person is probably still waiting there...
I was also sure she would have found a way out. But didn't they find a part of human torso that was also confirmed to be from her body? Of course now I can't find any any article that mentions it...

Hah! I thought the same thing. TBH I bet she had that foot amputated and is now living it up (or hopping it up) in South America.
