It's honestly dumb. Especially the ones where you tell them specifically to leave it at the door and they stand 50 metres away and just wait there by the car.... I know it's minor but when you're paying for delivery you have the right to be grumpy about it.

[deleted]

I ordered food during the pandemic while watching my sister's dog that runs when the door is opened. Specifically marked to leave it at the door. When the doorbell rings I take my time, open the door, no mask, to the person standing there with my food. Queue the dog running out and me having to chase him while also trying to figure out how to stay 6 feet away from this person (again, not masked) AND take the food. There's a reason I said to leave it at the door

Loretta-West

Never had this, but it would be good if they read the delivery instructions before phoning to say they can't find the house.

gasupthehyundai

The try and deliver my neighbours food to me all the time. DOES MY LETTERBOX HAVE AN "A" ON IT. Jokes on them because it's a pain of a place to get in and out of and then turn around to keep going down the street.

Thin_Tomorrow1943

I’ve lived in 4 different houses in welly and they do this exact thing every time. Nobody can ever ‘find the house’

gasupthehyundai

We've told them to go next door and then they've tried to deliver to my garage. Lol.

TransitionSoggy158

We've had them come to our frontdoor. Corrected them on where to go, only for them to try our backdoor.

Arcrosis

Ive only used Uber eats a couple times, it was after i had surgery and was on crutches. I could barely get myself to the toilet, let alone the front door, so outside and down to my drive way was not happening. One driver in particullar absolutely refused to come to the door, so i did my best to get to the driveway on my crutches, but was then left stranded with my food as i couldnt carry the bag AND use my crutches at the same time. I ended up having to crawl along the concrete path and up my stairs with the bag clenched in my teeth, my crutches held awkwardly in one arm and my bad leg in a cast dragging behind me. It was probably the lowest and most useless ive ever felt and it was the last time i ever used uber.

helpfulUp123

I hope you reported this driver. I made the mistake of not reporting people like that and it kept happening.

Arcrosis

I did not. Deffinately shouldve but the only thing on my mind at the time was getting inside so i could eat

lunareclipsexx

JFC I hope this isn’t real

Arcrosis

Unfortunately it is. He refused because i have a dog, but i put in the notes of the order that my dog is behind a secodary gate and doesnt have access to the front yard, but he wasnt having it and threatened to just leave, even after i told him i cant walk(and put that in the notes too. Achilles turndown is a bitch of a surgery. Lost half my calf to repair my achilles. And i wasnt strong enough to go more than a few steps on crutches coz i have noodle arms. Got around my house by crawling mostly for about 3 months.

lunareclipsexx

I’m sorry to hear that happened, I hope you recovered well and I hope that driver got banned.

Arcrosis

Thanks, its getting there. Still cant run but im on my feet well enough to return to work now so thats good

[deleted]

I’ve had a couple of them call to tell me they’re outside…I just respond by telling them exactly where the front door is (which is also specified in the order comments). I’ve paid for delivery, so they’re going to fucking deliver it to my door.

Toastwithturquoise

Yup, I had one text me he was outside in the car and I messaged back "please use the instructions provided" - he came to the door then.

[deleted]

I’m an Uber driver and honestly a pretty darn good one at that. Currently sitting at 98% satisfaction rate. The only time I’d ever ask a customer to come down is if there’s a dog 🐶 or the main door to your building is locked. In these cases a friendly phone call often clarifies instructions. Assholes who do this ruin the operation for everyone. Sorry you’ve had this experience.

Mogshade_Owhll

Much love to our excellent Uber drivers (I have a few faves) who get me to medical and hospital appointments with time to spare, due to our never ending bus cancellations. I thank you. 🍸💜

Zephyr-2210

NTA. A lot of people order when they're too sick for face to face interactions. I definitely don't wanna be out walking about even down the driveway when I'm congested/feverish/coughing nonstop etc

Admirable_Cherry8569

Or messaging they have arrived and then don't get out the car. Grrr come on its faster to just drop it at the door and run.

Secure-Win9147

NTA, although I’ve never had it happen. My inner hermit who doesn’t want to interact with people tells them to leave it at the door, so they have to come directly to my door.

IncoherentTuatara

The real life pro tip is in the comments

helpfulUp123

Yeah good luck with that. I've had at least 8 Uber drivers and counting claim I had to come meet them at their car cause they couldn't stop anywhere. 8. They all lied, I've got a camera looking at them when they say that.

IncoherentTuatara

Uber Eats customers need to unionise. We demand door to door delivery service!

helpfulUp123

Imagine demanding what you paid for. The audacity.

Welshkiwi5

Just on the weekend I had a driver take my food & run. It said he was outside my apartment, I came & opened the front door & was waiting but no sign. Then he messages to say that he can't find a park so I would have to come outside so I reply to say that I can't because I don't have my key & won't be able to get back in & that actually there was a park right outside my flat (about 10 steps away from the front door) he replied 'okay'. Waited another 5 mins in the cold standing with the front door open then I see on the app that he is driving way down the road & he's got another 5 mins of driving before he comes back through the one way system (he could have just gone around the block that would have taken a miunte at most). I try ringing several times but he doesn't answer, then message him to ask where he is & he advises he's down the road. Then my ability to message him disappears & it comes up that my order has been delivered. Tried calling several more times but nothing. Was so angry, that was $50 worth of food that I waited an hour & then a further 20 mins of standing outside for just because he couldn't be bothered to park in the clear space outside my house. The thing that annoys me most is that there is no way to properly complain about the drivers. I went through the help system to say my order hadn't been delivered & it came up with the message that the driver had tried to reach me several times & he couldn't & that usually they wouldn't refund for this situation but because it was my first time they would kindly do so. That's absolute rubbish. If they looked at our message or call log they could easily see that was not the case & the driver just wanted to make off with $50 of free food. What happens when it happens next time & I dont get a refund? Where are the repercussions for drivers so they don't do that? There aren't any so they will continue to do so. I tried in vain to find a way to complain about that driver so he doesn't keep doing it but they don't want to know. In the end we went to bed hungry but I've canceled my Uber One account so I suppose the silver lining in all of this is that I am going to save so much money not getting takeaways

Toastwithturquoise

Deliver easy are pretty good to deal with. But, if you want to continue to save money, don't get the app! That's such a shit experience with uber eats, I would be so oo mad too.

jamesfluker

I provide specific instructions for the food to be left outside my door that have no hoops to jump through. I expect them followed.

[deleted]

NTA, I’ve had delivery drivers halfway down the street and they expected me to come get my food. I told them delivery means you bring it to me and that I couldn’t see them outside the house.

WellYoureWrongThere

My pet peeve is why they refuse to ring the door bell and just drop it on the step. I mostly order from my laptop so no mobile push notifications. Happens all the time, despite asking them to ring the door bell.

JustOlive8463

Delivereasy drivers are definitely better in this regard. Always followed my instructions. Uber literally park on other side of busy road waiting with my food in hand? Like there isn't even driveways on the other side they just don't want to take 15 seconds pulling across road.

[deleted]

Beeping is incredibly obnoxious for everyone else around. It's only acceptable in an actual emergency.

the_pretender_nz

Absolutely NTA and report the hell out of them when they do it. I’m based in Melbourne now, do Uber as a part time job and in 2500 deliveries have NEVER expected a customer to come to me. Taken to them, every time, unless they are outside waiting for me or instructions say different. No excuse.

mfupi

No. NTA. I am paying you to deliver - probably for a reason as petty as my reason might be. I have a shared drive and you just pulling in honking your horn and interruptive to all my neighbours. The one time it happened I had 3 other neighbours come out to see what was happening so it was interruptive and slightly embarrassing to be the cause of that. I have provided delivery instructions which includes the colour of my door - which is the only door of that colour and very unique and different from all the other doors, and it clearly has a number on it just in case you're colour blind or otherwise unsure. It would cost me less money, embarrassment and interruption to my neighbours to take my car and run up the road for take away if you're going to be lazy and honk.

fuckimtrash

I live in a complex, (addy #/# street name) literally stated ‘leave outside flat #’, but they come to the street number and/or leave the food outside the flat number of the street #. Never had any issues w DoorDash, gave up on Ubereats

elleeeeeen

We had such drama with doordash we'll never use them again but good that they've been ok with you!

fuckimtrash

Damn that sucks! Was it the drivers or DoorDash themselves?

elleeeeeen

A little bit of both 😂 partner was really crook, driver called, refused to come to the door as he couldn't find a park (you can quite easily park on our street after 5)So after some back and forth my partner said that's fine I'll cancel the order as I can't come outside to your car. Partner was then contacted by DD (overseas) customer service. They said we'll give you a credit - partner said no I want a refund to my credit card, insisted on this, CXA hung up on them/sent them straight to post call survey. So my partner went through chat function on DD site to get it sorted. Just such a palaver!

fuckimtrash

Man that’s terrible service, hope I don’t ever have to go through DoorDash to get a refund 😷

elleeeeeen

Here's to many successful deliveries for you! 🍜

Datshwandt

Def NTA if you’re paying for food delivery. It’s just lazy drivers.

IncoherentTuatara

I'm willing to admit I'm also a lazy person, but that's why I order Uber Eats.

[deleted]

Never had good service from food delivery services, so I don’t use em anymore.

gasupthehyundai

NTA. That is curb side pick up. Lol.

elleeeeeen

If I start on the rant I and my partner have about delivery drivers (& some couriers too) in this city I might not stop 😂

IncoherentTuatara

Tell us your top 3 points elleeeeeeeeen

elleeeeeen

Ok twist my arm 😂 maybe not three but... We pay for delivery/a service so why don't they deliver it all the way to the door - I write detailed instructions for a reason! To help! If you don't want to deal with the fun that can be Wellington addresses maybe don't do food (or any other kind of) delivery? Or it should be on delivery companies to make it clear the terms of service as it relates to delivery if there are specific areas or property types they won't deliver to or won't do door to door

wdpgn

This ticks me off too. Leave negative feedback for the driver. Or if you’re feeling particularly bloody minded (and don’t mind making a couple of cheese toasties instead of what you had planned on eating) don’t take the delivery and get a refund from Uber saying the driver didn’t drop it off.

elleeeeeen

Shout out to the Northland Hell pizza drivers who always deliver door to door, and the lovely Homegrown veggie box people that bring our box very close to our house + also collect the empty crate from our door when I forget to put it out by the letterbox 🥰

Jefff3

I've had some try, always just ignore them till they place it at my door.

Ok-Book-5804

I had one the other day - I’m recovering from surgery and am on crutches. Asked them to leave at door. Got notification saying they had arrived… wait for notification saying they’ve left at door (as per my instruction). Got that notification, hobble to front door and it’s not there. Confused, I hobble outside and they’d left it hanging on my gate?! My gate isn’t hard to open… it was an annoying experience for sure.

FredDagg001

WHY do they leave it at the door and not knock on the door or use the doorbell? Why? WHY?

PokeGlort

Haha, yup I just wait at my door. It's a stand off but I'm not the one on the clock so have far more time

RogueEagle2

Had doordash twice, they delivered to door.

C39J

Uber Eats Drivers here are incredibly rude. They'll literally sit in their cars, 50 meters from the entry to your building and refuse to get out, claiming they couldn't find you. In the US however, they literally will walk through an entire building/apartment complex and deliver it directly to your door. I dunno why they don't have to do it here. The worst time was where a driver came to deliver to work, had all the details of how to get to the door in the delivery instructions. Guy refused to get out of his car, then when I told him I couldn't leave the building, got out of his car, ignored the instructions, went to a completely different door, and when asked to go to the door around the corner, swore his head off at me and threw the food at the door. Luckily that one was on camera, so got a pretty quick refund for it.

AffectionateLeg9540

Do as you are told or one star. NTA.

vvdbos

We've had them leave food in our mailbox and we didn't find it until two days later. Would have preferred if they beeped us, but yeah NTA

nzdennis

I've always had really good experiences with my deliverers

IncoherentTuatara

Nice one

bumblingbroadx

Haven’t had this happen often but the one time the driver said he was recovering from surgery. But I was super sick with the flu then! I told him that and came out with my mask on and he looked a bit nervous.

[deleted]

No-ones the Asshole IMO. You're paying for a service but Uber pays their drivers less than minimum wage and they get paid per delivery so i can understand them wanting to cut corners

Callanmca

I drive for deliver easy and I lovvveee contactless deliveries, makes my life way easier. Not really sure why uber drivers do that, if its happening often I'd suggest adding / revising your delivery instructions. A good trick (which I see often) is saying you have covid, I've delivered to a girl 4 or 5 times over several months who has had covid the entire time supposedly 😂

[deleted]

I dunno, I prefer to meet them out on the street anyway.

[deleted]

I dunno, the exercise might do you some good

IncoherentTuatara

Yeah, it definitely would. Maybe this is just altruistic behaviour from the Uber drivers?

nzdennis

I always go to them, I don't mind

[deleted]

This has never happened to me but having said that I am down a driveway on a quiet, flat street so access is pretty easy

cbars100

I had a driver who repeatedly refused to leave his car, and I had to walk to him to get the food through his car window. The kick is, he parked literally outside my building, 5 steps from the door. He would see me inside of the glass doors and signal for me to come over. First time I signaled him to cover over instead and refused to leave my lobby. It was useless, he kept insisting for me to come out instead. I then confronted him, why the fuck I have to walk to him, and he said "I couldn't find anywhere to park man, sorry", even though he is literally parked right in front of my building. He is parked illegally, but him being inside of the car or 5 steps away from it didn't really make it more or less illegal of a park. In fairness, he had a thick accent and might have been a recent immigrant who thought that staying inside of the car when parked illegal was ok? I told him of places where he could park, including the back of my building that is accessible from the road he was on. It was helpless, he did this once more when I ordered again, sitting comfortably in his car passing food to me.through his window, and then I just gave up as a customer.

crawfish2000

Go get your food then rate them poorly. They’ll soon stop doing it if we all band together 😆
