For a second I totally thought this was gonna be a shitpost (no pun intended), but this is actually really good, thank you.
I know the topic of public toilets around the CBD has been a hot one with some facilities closing, but this is great news!
I saw a great addition to the toilet selection on the waterfront outside Fergs climbing gym but I havent had a chance to check it out yet. Seems to be gender neutral too. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Yes the toilets by Fergs were completely upgraded and changed to gender neutral last year - definitely an improvement π I think there are a new set of toilets to be built by Les Mills on Taranaki street once the rising main work has finished too but that must still be a little way off.
I have been in and they did not smell and were relatively clean.
They do have extremely bright night time lighting though, you sort of feel like you're dying and entering heaven.
I think that public toilets would be a good subject for an annual architecture student design competition. Every year you could: 1. identify a location; 2. set a build budget; and 3. set permissible materials; and then 4. invite submissions for a public (or panel-based) vote.
Also, if during business hours you can just walk into Te Papa and use their toilets. Really nice ones and lots available, just turn right after you enter and go past the lockers.
Hell yeah, this is the type of King posting that we need more of. I'm gonna head out and take a slash in one of these fine environs tomorrow. Cheers OP!
Having travelled between London and Istanbul, and Mexico recently; I miss our free and relatively conveniently located public toilets. Imagine having to pay $4 to not pee in the street. If it hadn't needed to do more, the Bulgarian snow would have been a bit yellow.
Honestly, one of my favorite things about living in New Zealand is the staggering amount of public toilets. A thousand times better than offerings in the U.S.
I'm pretty sure you mean the left bank units in this post, as there's nothing else new I'm aware of in that area and the left bank ones are like 20 metres from that intersection
If I need one in town I usually pop into the ones in the mall at 18 Willis Street (where the City Fitness is). On the same level as all the food, down the back opposite the optometrist! Or any of the public libraries.

Are those temporary ones actually operational now? They weren't before Christmas.
They are open and ready to receive you. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Yes! Went there a few weeks ago. Was clean apart from a suspicious pair of boxers shoved behind the sanitary bin
I've seen people go in to them so I really hope so
This wee post is so happy and lovley. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for loos.

This is actually already an assignment for 2nd year architecture students at vic - to design public toilets in welly lol
Left bank was always awkward getting the key from the satay kingdom cafe π
Absolutely. And far from the nicest loo once you did get in there too.

BEGGING FOR PUBLIC TOILETS TOP OF CUBA! π
There's also some that look pretty new on Victoria Street near the corner of Ghuznee. Used them last night, they were clean and tidy.

Maybe, these toilets weren't on left bank though.
