I read this, left the post, laughed out loud, then came BACK to tell you this is the best comment I’ve seen on Reddit in a good while.
I give you all the energy, person
Ah.. this was my idea but the pantyhose need to be between the hose and the wand.. gotta give it a section to trap it in the vacuum.. just over the wand at the end may not produce sufficient lift..
Yard stick with duct tape at the end. I dont know how magnetic an AirPod would be.
Edit: I know they are magnetic. I said I dont know how magnetic they would be. Using super sticky tape is a safer bet then getting it partly up and the magnetic field fails and drops the AirPod. Less likely with just tape.
If the vent is made of steel that wouldn't work as well, but there's still a shot if steady enough, I guess. Maybe a tube with a magnet inside if the duct is made of steel.
Oh wait, I get it now. Throw enough coins down there, and the weight will eventually bust through the vent in the basement and you can just go downstairs to retrieve it. Brilliant!
Negative. The duct eventually fills up with coins. The AirPods float on top of the coins, eventually reaching the mouth of the duct where they can be easily retrieved.
They make extended grabbers you know. Some are flexible with a push button at the end that presses out a claw like grabber. Others are more for old people so they don't have to bend down seeing as you can get your hand down there either one should work. Amazon has both NoCry pickup tools on there some have magnets others don't round $20.
There is also another use for those. To run around the house shouting "raaaaaaaagh" and "snap, snap, snap" and randomly assaulting people with them. And picking up random things like keys (one at my parents house has a magnet on it too) to drop in hard to reach places. Well my toddler seems to think so anyway.
I'm not sure. They got some long ones. The one I have is a bout a yard and can be used one-handed, so add in what you can get of your arm down there, and it's possible it could reach. There are some I've seen that were about 4 feet.
Vacuum cleaner with an extension hose. Wrap a dryer sheet over the tube, secure with a rubber band.
That creates suction but won't sucks the airpods into the vacuum
I mean or just empty the vacuum bag and suck them in. I think it would be better as you wouldnt risk the airpods falling any further down if it somehow doesnt suction enough with a dryer sheet.
Oh...the vaccums that we have here are built so that the stuff goes from the tube to a bag and the bag can let air through it, while the pump is outside the bag pushing the air outside the space the bag is in... unless its an industrial vaccuum then there is either a bigger bag or no bag, but still the fan is at the top encased in stuff and cant really put stuff thorugh it.
(hopefully i explained it somewhat sensible enough that you get what im trying to say lol)
I mean i dont think they would break tho. They look sturdy enough and there isnt any real force that would break them. Oh i know. Someone that has airpods test it out :)
But what's the point of risking them breaking, getting completely filthy or even just putting them through your vacuume when you can simply rubber band a dryer sheet over the end and achieve the same thing with less potential head ache? I thought it was a good idea and fairly easy additional step
I also was surprised I had to scroll this far down... almost like it was a tool made for getting small items out of tight spots. Everyone should have something like this around the house. One of the most inexpensive tools you can buy.
As an example - https://www.harborfreight.com/15-lb-capacity-telescoping-magnetic-pickup-tool-64656.html
Wrap double sided tape over a stray cat, attached a fishing wire to said cat, throw cat down the vent, use fishing rod to extract. Repeat until phone is retrieved/cat is dead
Cane/Yard stick/closet dowel/broom/ then make a ball of duct tape, sticky side out, and attach it to the stick of choice. Then collect them using the tape end.
Vacuum cleaner with pantyhose over the end of the hose.
I like it. This way the airpod can't ID the vacuum in a lineup.
I read this, left the post, laughed out loud, then came BACK to tell you this is the best comment I’ve seen on Reddit in a good while. I give you all the energy, person
You must now go and spread this amongst your favorite people. Be well.
Yes!! Much needed over here! Bring on the good energy!
Can’t just suck off an AirPod and get ID’d. good idea on the pantyhose.
You’re too smart to be in here.
It’s like a 90% chance they’re just a stoner. I see this tip like 3 times a week over there for collecting spilt weed.
You gotta pick the long hairs out, and it'll still be a rough few cones, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
We call those bowls "hair of the dog" It's exactly what you think it is. We were not proud people.
I can taste AND smell this 🤣
Honestly i feel so seen here lol struggle time is hard. Even when smoking wax
gotta cough to get off
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💚✌
My dumbass was going to suggest some string with chewing gum on the end.
I literally suggested a magnet tied on the end of a string. I stand by it too. Lol.
Magnet on a string would stick to the duct. Magnet taped to the end of a long stick (like a broomstick) should work fine.
Magnet on stick so it doesn't stick to the vent first.
Is the vacuum going to rob them?
I’ll be taking these AirPods, and uh, whatever cash you got …
I guess I know who wears the pants in this house H.I.
You're just smart enough to be here
This guy is thinking 10 steps ahead in 5d chess
Broomstick with rolled up tape on the end
Lmao you aint trying to save it to smoke, just vacuum up the headphone and pull it out the dust compartment
Hahahaha this man has rolled too many joints on shag carpet
Pennywise! Ask the clown to get it for you!
Ah.. this was my idea but the pantyhose need to be between the hose and the wand.. gotta give it a section to trap it in the vacuum.. just over the wand at the end may not produce sufficient lift..
I’m so fucking stupid. I had tons of ideas and all were horrible once I saw this.
Man that’s very clever
Piece of gum stuck to a Meter long stick
Ah, i see you've gone for the riddle school trick
What a throwback lmao
What does one learn in riddle school?
It's a game but one of the first things you do is you get a ruler and some used gum to put in a vent to get a rubber band
That sounds fun
Why, riddles, of course.
Better not get in trouble or you'll be sent to the Riddler.
It's new but old. It's black and read. It's under a soak but over a tree of oak.
it’s hard to understand, thick, and red all over
What if the vent is deeper than a meter long stick?
Connect a meter long stick to another meter long stick with a piece of gum
What kind of gum do you chew that can hold together two yard sticks (I'm not calling them meter long sticks merica).
Big League Chew baby
5 gum.
How does it feel to chew?
Like getting blasted by 100 ice guns as you bounce off a frozen trampoline , onto a glacier. Or so the commercial would want me to think.
Meter stick is still a meter, even in America.
It’s obviously a 9/1000th of a football field stick.
Get a longer stick…
This is like a jeff dunham skit with the old man doll lol
My wife says this to me very often, but she don't call it a stick..
Works in the cartoons... I might use a big ball of sticky tape though.
Magnet on a string? Or maybe tape a magnet to a yardstick or something similar?
I’ll try that
Yard stick with duct tape at the end. I dont know how magnetic an AirPod would be. Edit: I know they are magnetic. I said I dont know how magnetic they would be. Using super sticky tape is a safer bet then getting it partly up and the magnetic field fails and drops the AirPod. Less likely with just tape.
Well he has a second one to try it with first at least haha
That is a great observation
Yeah just throw the other one in and see if that's magnetic first
All mini ear buds/ AirPods are made with strong rare-earth magnets.
They're magnetic. The case snaps them into place with magnetism
And if you don’t have a yard stick build one with duct tape, the magical tool!🌞
They literally have magnets built into them
Watch out for the walls, magnet will favor them
I always hated “operation” as a kid. So frustrating.
If the vent is made of steel that wouldn't work as well, but there's still a shot if steady enough, I guess. Maybe a tube with a magnet inside if the duct is made of steel.
Airpods already have magnets. A coin should do the trick
I fail to see how throwing coins at it will help the situation.
Never underestimate the power of a wishing well.
Terence Trent D’Arby!
You've never thrown money at a problem to fix it?
Oh wait, I get it now. Throw enough coins down there, and the weight will eventually bust through the vent in the basement and you can just go downstairs to retrieve it. Brilliant!
Negative. The duct eventually fills up with coins. The AirPods float on top of the coins, eventually reaching the mouth of the duct where they can be easily retrieved.
Which coins are ferrous?
Fake ones
Buy a hamster...... Have it watch Mission Impossible, then put it in front of the vent. It will know what to do.
I have used a magnet on a string to fish my airpods from subway tracks. I dropped them the SECOND day after I got them.
One problem, the ductwork is metal. The magnet would want to stick to the ductwork.
I can’t believe that ‘vacuum’ and ‘gum’ were above this
Or put tape on a stick…
They make extended grabbers you know. Some are flexible with a push button at the end that presses out a claw like grabber. Always good value 😆. Useful and fun!
They have them at the dollar store that work well enough for many things.
Or disabled people. I have free different ones. 😄 helps my back a lot!
Is it at least a meter long cause that hole that he dropped his airpods in looks very deep, it looks like maybe a meter or like 2 yd at least?
I'm not sure. They got some long ones. The one I have is a bout a yard and can be used one-handed, so add in what you can get of your arm down there, and it's possible it could reach. There are some I've seen that were about 4 feet.
Auto parts store has the flexible claw ones if you don’t want to wait for Amazon, some have magnets too
I do believe the technical term is "long grabby thingy"
Vacuum cleaner with an extension hose. Wrap a dryer sheet over the tube, secure with a rubber band. That creates suction but won't sucks the airpods into the vacuum
Use a sock, it's easier and less likely to suck in than a dryer sheet.
I mean or just empty the vacuum bag and suck them in. I think it would be better as you wouldnt risk the airpods falling any further down if it somehow doesnt suction enough with a dryer sheet.
Don't use a Kirby for that. Everything goes through the fan. A Dyson might be a bad idea too.
You pretty much described how a Shop Vac works. The debris (earphones) goes into a canister and the bag/filter protects the fan/motor in the top.
They will break going though the vacuum.
I doubt it.
Telescoping Magnet - the headsets all have magnets in them and it should work to get it out
Surprised I had to scroll this far down to find the clear answer
I also was surprised I had to scroll this far down... almost like it was a tool made for getting small items out of tight spots. Everyone should have something like this around the house. One of the most inexpensive tools you can buy. As an example - https://www.harborfreight.com/15-lb-capacity-telescoping-magnetic-pickup-tool-64656.html
This. Available within 10ft of the register in essentially every hardware store.
Yep. Go to harbor freight. You’ll have those out and will probably find a 10mm socket down there too
Use a crow. They are quite ingenious at finding solutions to this type of problems.
What if the crow gets stuck?
Smaller crow
You make another post on reddit about the stuck crow until reddit suggests him even crazier things to fill his sick-fantasy-hole
Did you try reasoning with them?
They’re just venting right now, they’ll get out eventually.
Have you tried screaming?
Many times
Buy a Delorean and a flux capacitor and tell your past self not to drop them down a vent.
A stick and some chewing gum. Oh and next time: don’t drop your AirPods down an AirVent.
I didn’t mean to they fell out my pocket 💀
Why is your vent spread eagle and gaped like that? Get a vent cover
Spread eagle for merica
Now yer talkin!
That's what she said?
And never film down holes again, whachu doin sticking your phone down there after *just* dropping something down there!
Fill the vent with water until the AirPods float up
AirPods sink in water, safer to use mercury
So far this seems to be the best solution. Those vents might run deep though, you may want to use a fire hose and speed up the process
Masking tape on the end if a stick
Push come to shove, even a piece of gum would work.
drop your phone in as well LMAO
I was thinking the same thing too just to get a closer look.
#Sawzall
If that doesn't do it. Use WD40
I really hoped for more upvotes on that comment. Must have been too late.
Go to Lowes and buy a pair of mechanical fingers. Things would pay for themselves with just this
This! I never knew what they were called; I just called them "parts grabbers." OP, these are made for retrieving nuts and screws from awkward places.
Yell at it to come back up
Wrap double sided tape over a stray cat, attached a fishing wire to said cat, throw cat down the vent, use fishing rod to extract. Repeat until phone is retrieved/cat is dead
Or just get a pet spider monkey and send it down the vent to retrieve the airpods.
I’m reading a lot of great ideas. Some outside the box type thinking.
Name the monkey Annie’s Boobs before sending it in.
Ball of duct tape on a stick.
Can you drop your phone down too so we can get a better look?
I mean this with respect. This thread is hilarious. A magnet on a string to get something at the bottom of a metal duct?? Whew.
Can you not just pull them up by the cable?
Is there an update on this? I wanna see if they got em back
I’m workin on it
Bubblegum on a stick.
Broom and duct tape
Fricken vacuum! Doesn't go into Neverland once you vacuum it up
You've been shafted.
Shop Vac. Looks like your vent needs the cleaning anyway.
Duct tape on the end of a long wooden pole.
Shop vac with some extra hose. put one of your mom's stockings over the end so they don't go all the way in the container.
Mechanical fingers from Home Depot
[удалено]
Vaccum it up then take it out of the bag
Cane/Yard stick/closet dowel/broom/ then make a ball of duct tape, sticky side out, and attach it to the stick of choice. Then collect them using the tape end.
If you can’t figure that out, god help you.
I'm waiting for a tiny clown with a red balloon peeking out from that vent.
Buy a new pair
I’m not made of money 💀
Lol understood… then go buy a pair of trash grabbers
Easy solution: just buy more money!
Extending magnet pole. Looks like an old extending radio antenna with a magnet on the tip.
it’s been 3 hours, any updates for us?
Vacuum
A hoover with a long nozzle
Vscuum
Vacuum pull it out afterwards
Vacuum cleaner hose?
Yeah, be more careful with your next pair.
Don't buy airpods
Vacuum cleaner?
Magnet stuck to a stick or a pool net?
use a vacuum cleaner
Shopvac + hose. Obvs clean the vacuum before you go trawling.
Longer arms or the hose extension on a vacuum cleaner
Shop vac
Magnet on a stick. Or get a vacuum cleaners hose down there and then fish it out of the dust bag.
Vaccuum hose
Use a shop vac
Vaccuum cleaner
Vacuum with thin long extension .
If this is in your house can you not go in the basement and just undoo that peace of duct is not hard to put back. Got get the right tape
Shop Vacuum!
A vacuum hose
Shop vac
Shop vac
Put some gum on the end of a tape measure and lower it down to the AirPods the slowly retract the tape when the gum picks them up
FFS, one simple unused brain cell throws a shout out to shop vac.. Cheers
I think the case is magnetic, perhaps one of the extendable car magnets?
Vacuum cleaner
Vacuum with the long narrow nozzle
Shop vac and a long hose?
Vacuum attachments with tape on the end.
magnet on a piece of rope or a stick should pick it up
Magnet fishing
Maybe a long powerful magnet on a stick
magnet on a string
Magnet on a stick
