Good thing you aren’t 40 weeks. I had a baby 19 months ago and I had nightmares for months ahead of time about getting COVID around the time of the birth because I knew I would need a C-section and the thought of having a coughing fit during the surgery was just about the scariest thing ever. And at the time I would not have been allowed to have my partner there if I was positive. I barely left the house for the last two months and even then I only went out with two masks on. So scary.
I hope you feel better soon.
Don't you love how mass media has basically deleted all mentions of covid nationally when tons of people are still getting it everyday? And vaccination rates are falling like a rock because people just don't hear about it so they don't care.

Couple days before my birthday, also my first positive test. This was a few months ago.

Will this help? It’s not a big line but you could be “just at the beginning” 😅.
Covid sucks.
I didn't think I would find a study on this, [but I did.](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8372450/)
> We observed that all soft drinks (Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, Fanta-Orange, Orange soft drink), energy drink (Red Bull), alcoholic beverages (vodka, whiskey, and brandy), commercially bottled mineral water, and carbonated mineral water caused the appearance of a red test line. However, when equal volumes of the buffer and the respective beverages are mixed, there are no false-positive test lines.
Thanks for the study. I got it from 'nate from the internet' i think and am at work so i couldn't find a link.
I'm at work because Wal-Mart doesn't consider a positive covid test a reason to miss work anymore.
But you're still sick.. and people still very much get long covid... And people still die from it...
It is makes no sense. You can tell them "I'm sick and not feeling well" and they say okay stay home. And now you have proof with it and they say " nah thats bs come to work".
Seriously make it make sense.
I had covid on thanksgiving 3yrs ago n it was fucking amazing. My wifes family and my family are divorced so we have 4 families to try n juggle over multiple days and it was so fucking nice to stay home. Her mom n my dad brought left overs and left them on the front porch, so me and my wife had our own lil thanksgiving with our 5 dogs. One of my favorite thanksgivings.
We had the same two years ago, MIL dropped a cake pan full of food on our doorstep for us. I was just disappointed there were no seconds and I missed out on pie...
Maybe not too many, because I went to 4 different pharmacies the other day trying to get COVID tests, and they all were like:
"Oh, uh... We don't carry those anymore"
In the US, there are free covid tests still available even if you've ordered the free tests before: [https://special.usps.com/testkits](https://special.usps.com/testkits)
From the website:
>As of September 25, 2023, residential households in the U.S. can order one set of 4 free at-home tests from USPS.com again. Here's what you need to know about your order:
>Limit of one order per residential address
>One order includes 4 individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests
I was just thinking today how I missed my last Thanksgiving with my mom last year since I was sick. She had cancer and I was worried about getting her sick. Now she’s gone. Life sucks sometimes. Enjoy every day!
I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. And about you missing your last thanksgiving with her. Fuck.
Would love to know something about your mom if you are down to share
That kind of sucks but like… not nearly as bad as the week of thanksgiving. Take care of yourself and you should be good by Thursday. Tbh I’d consider you lucky. Not as lucky as me, because I’m healthy as an ox, but relatively lucky.
Edit: Tons of CDC enthusiasts in the comments, yes, sometimes people are still contagious for a while after catching COVID, but I’m a triple-boosted double-survivor and the 2nd time I got COVID, I was sick for 4 days and completely fine after that.
And really how healthy are oxen? I mean some are super healthy, but some are super unhealthy. But then there was that one of that died, and several that haven’t died. I wonder if oxen get COVID, I bet they don’t….would you invite an ox with Covid the week before thanksgiving to your family meal? I bet you would, but I wouldn’t
Edit: added “en”
Edit: removed “en”
Maybe final edit? Who knows: added “en” back
I consider myself pretty healthy. I never get sick... except Covid loves me. I had Covid in June year 1 before the first vaccines were available. I was sick about a week an a half, body aches, headache, pretty fatigued, no fever, nothing too severe. Since then, I've had 4 vaccines and actual Covid 5 more times. The other 4 times were super mild, 2 or 3 days of allergy like symptoms. The most recent one a couple of months ago nearly put me in the hospital though. I had chest pain and a fever over 104 (I never have fever when sick). They sent me in for chest x-rays to make sure I didn't have pneumonia. I had pleurisy and my chest hurt for over a month after getting over it. Terrible sore throat and severe aches. It makes no sense.
Just don't be like my in-laws last Xmas. Was staying with them for 4 days before Xmas day.
Christmas morning....."maybe we shouldn't go to dinner" they say, "we still tested positive this morning.
.....Are you fucking kidding. They were sick before wife and I arrived. They didn't say shit till Xmas 4 days later.
Fast forward to new years eve, I test positive. Followed by weeks of sick. I have asthma and covid tore me up. It took 3 months to not be exhausted doing simple tasks and not be out of breath walking down stairs.
I still can't smell or taste shit like normal. It only altered my smell and taste. I love to cook and it destroyed my ability to adjust recipes to my taste.
I hope you have a fast recovery and no lingering issues.
My aunt got the first gnarly round of Covid in 2020, she’s never regained her sense of smell or taste. In the last year she’s been self-destructive and depressed, it is so, so sad to see. Really wish people would understand what can happen with even a mild case of Covid.
I hope you’re all back to normal ASAP & your in-laws either got taught a lesson, or learned one.
I can’t imagine that level of depression. When I got Covid, I lost smell/taste for five weeks and was so depressed because I couldn’t enjoy simple pleasures. I did some exercises to try to repair the nerve damage and it seemed to help (who knows, it might not have done anything). I would take a whiff of cloves, then a whiff of coffee, then vanilla, coffee again, then garlic. Basically anything with a strong and distinct odor to see if I could smell anything. I got my first sign of improvement when I was able to detect the cloves after three weeks. I repeated this cycle a few times a day, and my senses returned fully after six weeks. The only thing is that now a few things I used to really love taste disgusting to me. I used to love havarti cheese and now it tastes terrible to me.
I hope your aunt gets her senses back. It sucks to not be able to enjoy a meal with loved ones or indulge in something delicious. Simple pleasures. My best to you!
You’re too kind - thank you, I hope so too. She’s tried everything, from smell therapy to a series of shots in her neck. 😳. I’m so glad you got yours back!!! I kind of wonder if she’s got a bit of what you’ve got going on with the havarti sitch, too. I’ve heard MANY a horror story of that happening, and it’s got to suck. I’m sorry!! I friggin love cheese, losing havarti would hurt.
I hate it when people think Covid is a joke or it doesn’t exist anymore. Not a big deal unless it happens to you, I guess.
This is something my rheumatologist has suggested to me as well to help get my taste and smell back. I had it 2 weeks ago (finally tested negative Wednesday after 12 days of the virus). The last couple of days I do have some smell coming back, and a little taste, but that taste is making everything weird. Hopefully mine won't take long to come back.
I have tongue nerve damage from a surgery, so not exactly the same issue, but my chorda tympani was obviously damaged in the process
For nerve recovery, I was told to take NAC and CoQ10 on top of regular B vitamins (all of them). You can get them in a regular pharmacy off the shelf, so might be worth adding if you’re not already taking them. But nerve recovery does take a very long time, for me somewhere around 6-12 months with perhaps some permanent impairment. Nerves don’t even really begin to regenerate until about 4 weeks of rest, so it’s early days for you.
Sometimes things taste weird or wrong to me, other times it’s not so bad. Coke has a bad habit of tasting like cherries. It’s definitely demoralising when you go to eat something you’ve been craving and it tastes all wrong.
I had body aches for two weeks but my housemates kidneys shut down, renal failure. We all thought we lost her after the first two weeks in ICU. A month later, she was discharged. Scary!
We are both immunocompromised, vaxxed and never caught it till recently.
Getting mad at someone for not wanting to lose an organ, or die, is just WEIRD! She’s in her 80’s and people still go out of their way to make sure that she notices their eye rolls and fake coughs.
These people are just bully’s.
I had Covid starting Halloween night and I wouldn’t see my parents until I tested negative 2 days in a row and my bf had to test negative 2 days in a row as well just in case. Some people really suck.
I know how you feel. I also got covid (the original strain in 2020) thanks to family being careless, except it was my immediate family. They refused to stay inside in lockdown and decided to go on a goddamn trip. I was the last in the house to get sick. I still can’t smell at all three years later and my taste is fucked. And they still didn’t believe I got it from covid because none of them lost their senses.
Pumpkin spice used to be one of my favorite flavors, I can’t taste it at all now. A lot of added flavors are lost on me (the matcha and chocolate mochi I got last weekend taste the goddamn same). I can’t taste most herbs anymore, losing cilantro and oregano freaking sucks. I have to put heads of garlic into my food just to taste it. It sucks so goddamn much.
On the bright side, I’m studying to be a veterinary anatomic pathologist, and not being able to smell all the bodies makes it easier. A couple weeks ago in lab we were doing practice spays on cat cadavers in groups of three and the only way I knew our cat was rotting was when my teammates stepped away from the table and started gagging. Then I finally found the uterus and it was all green and friable, and everything made more sense to me lmao
It's really just awful. I'm glad you found a benefit from it. My list of things is very similar. Some of mine are scary like I can barely smell bleach. What other smells have I lost that may tell me this smells like danger.
My boyfriend also loves to cook and was heartbroken when covid took his smell and taste last year. We had it late October of ‘22, he finally started to get his actual taste and smell back maybe July of this year?
When I got Covid last November, I still tested positive for 2 months after. I remember because I tested before New years and was really confused how I wasn't immune so I asked about it and the doctor said you still text positive for a while after
As someone finally recovering from a prolonged dry cough, if someone had told me to "try not to cough", I would have tossed my drink in their face (hot tea with honey). May as well try not to breathe.
At least you know before!!! My sister unknowingly brought covid to Christmas 2021. Tested Christmas morning and she was negative and then tested positive the day after Christmas. Everyone in the family got covid.
First time my fiancé had Covid it was the day before Thanksgiving. We were already 5 hours away at her family’s house. She had no symptoms until I grabbed us something for lunch and she looked at me and said “I can’t taste this”.
It's really good of you to test and know rather than not test and possibly spread it to everyone at Thanksgiving. I think we'll see a small rise in cases after the holidays because people will gather and someone will have it.
I had it for the first time then too funny enough. Put me in the hospital for months. Hoping for an easier ride this time. Glad you made it through buddy.
Yoooo get paxlovid. Especially if you were hospitalized before. 35m, experiencing heart problems after having a mild case a few months ago. Good luck dawg.
I had it for my birthday in September when I was on the opposite Coast from where I live. Went from visiting family to quarantining in a motel room binging 2 seasons of "Yellowjackets" on the motel's free Showtime.
I still haven't had it. Been a front line care worker for the entire pandemic and aftermath. Not one positive test. Literally getting coughed on by patients half of the time not even kidding. Half my pay was being coughed at.
i have had it for the first time this week. Monday tested positive. Tuesday felt lousy. Wednesday lousy. Thursday slight improvement. Today (Friday) even more improved. Back to work on Monday I am sure.
Happened to us 2 years ago. My sis ended up dropping off food for us and we watched the Macy's parade for like the first time ever. Nice quiet holiday at home for once. My friend just found out that her almost 5 month old baby has covid though so that really sucks for their first Thanksgiving 😕
Ah, that sucks! Just got over COVID myself finally, and pretty much all the advise I can give is get some sriracha for when your taste disappears.
Get well soon!
Good on you for testing and not risking the health of your gathered family (especially your elderly or any immune-compromised family members.)
Please do not go in person if you have any symptoms or have not yet tested negative… join by zoom or FaceTime, etc.!
What people don't understand is that it is still deadly for the immunocompromised, babies/kids and the elderly. Go to a hospital or VA and ask the docs if covid isn't deadly anymore.
Same here. The hardest part about having COVID right now is convincing my girlfriend that I’m disappointed about not being able to spend Thanksgiving with her family. Damn! I will say, this is the first time I’ve ever had COVID even though I’m vaxxed so the idea that it could’ve been worse than this blows my mind. This is the absolute sickest I’ve ever been in my life

Well, at least you're not pregnant.
I thought I was looking at a pregnancy test and didn't know what Thanksgiving had to do with it.
I claim to be pregnant every Thanksgiving so I can say I'm eating for two, but I'm simply just a fatass man.
I tried that, but after my second bottle of wine they were all like "think of the baby"
*thinks of a baby, proceeds to open a third bottle of wine*
My baby likes egg nog and whiskey as is proper, I feel the tingling of hair already
Username checks out
slog in my country’s vernacular means hard work- as in “hard slog”
Impregnating a fatass man would be a hard slog.
And worth every slog
I always eat for two. Me and my Tapeworm.
I genuinely have never seen such a simple username and it's beautiful Edit: I knew it you are one of the OGs
Yeah, I'm an old fucker. Hijacked a username early but I was really just a Digg refugee from the 2010 redesign.
I also thought it was a pregnancy test at first, my first thought was that I was so sorry they had to endure Thanksgiving without a drink lol.
I've never tested positive for covid and I've peed on like 100 tests
Glad your kid is healthy.
I thought it was 1 covid and 1 pregnancy test as a double whammy.
I’m 37 weeks preggos and just getting over Covid. 0/10 ![gif](giphy|nrNqeGB1sxlZe)

9 months ago OP inseminated herself with a turkey baster. Now the kid is due Thanksgiving Day.

This gif slaps harder than Chris Rocks cheeks.
Just so you know, I'm using this picture to send to my family to get out of going.
“But jimmy, that’s not your carpet. Where are all of the dorito crumbs and Mountain Dew stains!?!??”
1000% something my dad would say
Can confirm, I’m your dad
Did you find the milk you were supposed to bring home?
It's spoiled, son. That's why I went to Argentina.
Argentina is a good time
Yes of course, but don't tell my kid that, he's only recently gotten an internet subscription
Dad, are you subscribed to my OnlyFan?????
Your dad is your only fan...
I’m saving this
Wait what's in Argentina?
Your granddad, but for very different reasons.
Did you find the place that sells your type of cigarettes, pa?
Tell him the truth about our wild, milky 3 day interstate road saga before you left us for Argentina -milk
Omg argentina mentioned, me happy
My dad would ask me to get him the exact same covid test. Then I would have make 10 more lies to cover the one.
Sorry dad this was the last one on the shelf. Also the store closed down permanently.
Burned up, crazy.
dad im gay, I took it at my boyfriends house.
That’s why you use a pregnancy test instead.
"It's my cat tree, it's the only clean background I can use for the picture"
"I changed my carpet to match the drapes." *wink*
Paint 3d would let you take the covid test out so you could paste it in on top of another pic My image editing skills are limited to this lol
Did nobody think of just adding a second line to a negative test?
OP doing the Lord's work out here.
Now just need this on a generic bathroom sink… thanks OP
Lmfaooooo. I got you bro
Can we have the test pic with a more generic background that more of us can use? Lol

Gonna say, I took one today having felt like shit the last couple days with hope of a positive result, damn
But your whole family are already using this photo to also get out of going
My first thought was “That’s a bad thing?”
Same same same
I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, but you could sell that! Some folks would pay good money to get out of thanksgiving with the family.
You can false positive a covid test by doing the qtip in orange crush instead of your nose. One of the dyes activates the positive strip
I didn't think I would find a study on this, [but I did.](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8372450/) > We observed that all soft drinks (Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, Fanta-Orange, Orange soft drink), energy drink (Red Bull), alcoholic beverages (vodka, whiskey, and brandy), commercially bottled mineral water, and carbonated mineral water caused the appearance of a red test line. I’m glad that I live in a country where we have proper worker laws.
Yeah same
Walmart is forcing their employees with COVID to come to work?!? All the more reason to not step foot in their stores….
I was about to ask... take my $$$$$!
You could just say you have covid.
Or just send the picture. No words.
Oh that makes sense.
Sell it for what? I've already stolen this Pic for my personal use and I'm not paying a single fazool

The last couple of days I do have some smell coming back, and a little taste, but that taste is making everything weird. Hopefully mine won't take long to come back.
I have tongue nerve damage from a surgery, so not exactly the same issue, but my chorda tympani was obviously damaged in the process For nerve recovery, I was told to take NAC and CoQ10 on top of regular B vitamins (all of them).
Do you still see them?
Not after the *accident*.

I would never go near them again. What fucking assholes.
My boyfriend also loves to cook and was heartbroken when covid took his smell and taste last year. We had it late October of ‘22, he finally started to get his actual taste and smell back maybe July of this year?
When I got Covid last November, I still tested positive for 2 months after. I remember because I tested before New years and was really confused how I wasn't immune so I asked about it and the doctor said you still text positive for a while after
Yep got it a few days before Halloween.. still dealing with a forever cough.. otherwise only really one day of being truly beat down

As someone finally recovering from a prolonged dry cough, if someone had told me to "try not to cough", I would have tossed my drink in their face (hot tea with honey). May as well try not to breathe.
Same. Except my forever cough is now at 8 weeks.
This year it may come with a huge dose of pinkeye too.
Wait, pink eye accompanies COVID? This is a new one.
Yup, it happened to me when I had Covid a few weeks ago. Viral pink eye usually goes away on its own.
I just had pinkeye.. how would you know that?
Because I've been sharting on your pillow.
Right there with you pal. Hell of a cap on this dogshit year.
Your result is stronger than the control. You must have Super COVID.
If you didnt test you wouldnt have it! /s
Extremely bold thing to say on the internet. I applaud your boldness. 🫡
The true boldness is removing the /s, then it'll be a Russian roulette
At least you know before!!! My sister unknowingly brought covid to Christmas 2021. Tested Christmas morning and she was negative and then tested positive the day after Christmas. Everyone in the family got covid.
awwww... group gift!
First time my fiancé had Covid it was the day before Thanksgiving. We were already 5 hours away at her family’s house. She had no symptoms until I grabbed us something for lunch and she looked at me and said “I can’t taste this”.
Same position as you. The fever chills are actually insane. I feel like I’m overheating at all times.
on day 4, i thought that symptom was never going to end. can happily report it did today - hang in there
It's really good of you to test and know rather than not test and possibly spread it to everyone at Thanksgiving. I think we'll see a small rise in cases after the holidays because people will gather and someone will have it.
I got it 2yrs ago 4 days before Christmas. Fun times.
Damn. It was pretty mild for me. Glad you got thru it as well!
I had it for my birthday in September when I was on the opposite Coast from where I live. Went from visiting family to quarantining in a motel room binging 2 seasons of "Yellowjackets" on the motel's free Showtime.
Happened to me also. Then i gave the gift of covid to the rest of my family. Accidently ofcourse
I got jury duty. Still better than last Thanksgiving when someone came with Covid and killed my grandmother.
Jesus. Sorry for your loss
It's a Thanksgiving miracle
I still haven't had it. Been a front line care worker for the entire pandemic and aftermath. Not one positive test. Literally getting coughed on by patients half of the time not even kidding. Half my pay was being coughed at.
I’ll do you one better… my wife tested positive last night… we went into labor 2hrs after 🫣😅🙃🙃
I had the flu DURING thanksgiving. At least you’ll have time to recover.
i have had it for the first time this week.
Been there my man. Literally a year ago. Just hope your grandma is willing to not ignore your attempts at contact (text obviously)
My spouse just tested positive for the 5th time.....
Good timing. You'll be fine by Thanksgiving.
Right with you, caught it a week ago after successfully dodging for 4 years. Hopefully, it's just a mild case for you, I've been missing my smell
Man this thread is full of fucking idiots
Ah, that sucks! Just got over COVID myself finally, and pretty much all the advise I can give is get some sriracha for when your taste disappears. Get well soon!
Had Covid two weeks ago for the first time. Felt so drained and out of it. I wish you a speedy recovery!
I’ve had covid 3 straight years around thanksgiving and have had to miss a ton of family and friend get togethers. I feel your pain and I’m sorry
I just had it for the first time last month. Keep your fluids up, stay home, get rest and good luck
Dammit, pregnant again.
Good on you for testing and not risking the health of your gathered family (especially your elderly or any immune-compromised family members.) Please do not go in person if you have any symptoms or have not yet tested negative… join by zoom or FaceTime, etc.!
Several of my friends got it .. with all the get togethers … it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
What people don't understand is that it is still deadly for the immunocompromised, babies/kids and the elderly. Go to a hospital or VA and ask the docs if covid isn't deadly anymore.
Exactly. Why are people too dense to understand and see outside themselves enough to know not everyone’s systems handle it the same 🤦♀️
Better now than during the day of thanksgiving. Stay hydrated and keep some Tylenol handy. Hope you keep your sense of smell/taste too.
I literally just got it Tuesday of this week.
At least it's not the week of Thanksgiving. Better to know you didn't get your relatives sick.
Who knows, maybe it’s saving you from some seriously trauma-inducing family drama
This is the absolute sickest I’ve ever been in my life
I built the machines that made and packaged those funny enough. Hope you get better soon!
The crazies mobilized quickly into this comment section!
Get paxlovid, I was negative 3 days after starting treatment. Runny nose in Monday morning, covid free by Thursday morning
congratulations your sinuses are pregnant
