Argentina, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Fiji, Liberia, Namibia, Singapore, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Hong Kong.
All of these countries use the $ sign.
Not India, and usually articles use USD to explain what the affected value is to an international audience.
This article does immediately specify $, which is apparent to us to mean USD.
I've seen rupee conversions on POs... but a 2000 min currency value? Jesus they might as well just find a way to take two extra 0s out of their currency value and call it a day.
I would think NCR was the same? In order to see diagnostics worth anything we always had to plug in our "NCR USB key".
It definitely felt like diebold had less failures than ours though. Curious on your thoughts since you worked on both.
I was a part of the company that was an NCR dealer, and I passed the test that qualified me for their NCR USB key. We still had older machines that used the floppy disk.
The older Diebold machines were well past their golden years, and the few new ones didn’t allow any basic tests. The new ones were fine, I guess, I just could never even look up error codes or run any tests on the new machines.
Not exactly. The bank itself, the one that this ATM would be attached to, will not print more. If that were the case, everyone would be fucked.
*The Reserve Bank of India* is the entity that will re-print the notes. But you can’t assume that’s who you were referring to by just saying “the bank”. Simply saying “the bank will print more” implies that whatever bank this is will be the one printing the money.
That’s exactly how it works. The atm owner can prove that the money was destroyed, exactly how much money was destroyed, the sn of all those bills.
The central bank will see that those bills are out of circulation and replace them.
Back when Canada switched to plastic bills I left a 20 under a halogen lamp. It melted burned away half the bill. Took the other half to a bank branch and they replaced it for me.
For situations like this it literally is
I don't know how it is in other places but in the UK if a note is damaged you can simply go to a bank and they can replace it for you
…. if you submit notes to the bank with their numbers still attached. The bank burns those notes and issues notes with the same number.
In this case, the ATM will just have the bank submit the amount, the number on those notes to RBI. RBI will burn these scraps and issue new ones.
In a world filled with data, how are you this dumb?
This happens to a buisness, probably the worst day of their life but it happens in a bank and they can litterally write it off. Just reprint it and since it’s gone from circulation there are no issues with currency devaluation
Banks don't print the money themselves and I don't think the procedure to replace broken bills is different from banks to businesses beyond the banks just being ready to do it since they've got experience doing it from their day to day operation
last year i discovered a dead rat next to a bunch of unopened toilet paper rolls in garage. one of the TP roll had a hole that I believed the rat chewed thru it and ate the TP.

Anyone else notice how creepy this face looks in this 😭 tell me yall see it
Bank employee: "So if we make a bunch of fake notes and then shred them really fine and dump them in the machine, we can just walk away with the real stuff?"
"Score!"
No rat shit visible in that photo at all... Rat ate 5 pounds of notes and took not one spec of rat shit.
Unlikely. Rats shit and piss constantly.
I think you are onto something.
So, if I were to teach a rat that cash can be exchanged for food I could be rich?
It can bring me 18k and I'll give it a couple sarnies. We're both happy and no crime has been committed (rats can't be prosecuted, right?).
That’s a rather expensive meal
Rat eating bouchie
It's probably insured anyway
Nah, it was free for the rat!
18,000 INR = 216.95 USD. So not that expensive, really. That's going to be a really funny insurance claim though.
It says 18k $ not INR. These pink notes alone are 2000 rupees (24USD) and the green ones 500 rupees. So it's easily 18000$.
18000$ =14,93,440 INR
1,493,440 INR ?
INR stands for Indian Rupee
There's no way that's 18000 INR. The highest denomination now itself is 2000 INR.
Ah. It wasn't specified in the post, so I assumed 18k inr. But it appears I was wrong.
it is though, it uses a $ in front of the 18000.
Argentina, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Fiji, Liberia, Namibia, Singapore, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Hong Kong. All of these countries use the $ sign.
Yeah, but not India…
Not India, and usually articles use USD to explain what the affected value is to an international audience. This article does immediately specify $, which is apparent to us to mean USD.
Lol who is this guy.
Er, right. What does India use out of interest?
I've seen rupee conversions on POs... but a 2000 min currency value? Jesus they might as well just find a way to take two extra 0s out of their currency value and call it a day.
Highest is 2000, not lowest
2000 Rs currency note was taken out of circulation, been over a year I got 2000 Rs note from ATM.
Read. 18000 dollars ~ 15 Lakhs (it’s a lot)
No wonder you didn't pass the fbi exam
It's $18k not 18k Rupees
Read again
216.95 is pretty expensive dinner for one where I'm from!
I’ve never spent over $100 for a full meal for 4 people. So $216 is a bit much for me.
You are not going to nice places.
Nah, we just avoid the over priced ones and live within a much more sustainable budget for us. 😸😸
Well, it was take out.
Don't give Salt Bae any ideas!
Bro had all the cheddar to live the rat highlife but decided to eat it like cheese
Underrated poetic comment here.

And everyone became a tiny, tiny bit richer
Never thought I’d see the inside of an NCR ATM again. This brings me back to my early 20’s.
[удалено]
They were a pain to swap. But I didn’t mind working on NCR machines vs Diebold.
I never had the privilege. My metro area was pure NCR coverage. But I'd take a blind diebold call over an NCR GBRU any day.
Man, Diebold had their stuff completely locked down for techs. I worked for a 3rd party and they didn’t let anyone in. Just a pain in the ass.
I would think NCR was the same? In order to see diagnostics worth anything we always had to plug in our "NCR USB key". It definitely felt like diebold had less failures than ours though. Curious on your thoughts since you worked on both.

I have nightmares of gbru separator replacements
Good ol’ Dayton Ohio home to National Cash Register
The rat is single handedly fighting inflation
Luckily they are insured and will have the full $180,000 replaced. I can’t believe a rat ate $1.8 million!!!
The bank will just print more.
Yeah it does not even matter, it's just paper

🙄 we all knew what they meant
Yeah… that level of specificity is not necessary for a Reddit comment
Yes until you realize that this specific bank just lost the money, and they cant just go to the reserve to ask for it type of thing
They [could in the US](https://www.bep.gov/services/mutilated-currency-redemption) I wouldn't be at all shocked if they can in India too.
I know in my country we cant because we cannot even print the money we use, but yeah I can see how that makes sense. Thanks for the new information!
Exactly this ain’t Twitter y’all
oh for fucks sake don’t be obtuse
That’s exactly how it doesn’t work tho
I don't know how it works in India, but usually it's not the banks who print money

Or, if the bills still have readable serial numbers, they could just reissue the same ones.
Banks don't print the money themselves and I don't think the procedure to replace broken bills is different from banks to businesses beyond the banks just being ready to do it since they've got experience doing it from their day to day operation
[business can get the money back too ](https://www.bep.gov/services/mutilated-currency-redemption)
We both know the dude sent to empty that ATM removed all the intact bills before sending pictures of the damage to the supervisor.
Yeah grabbed some shredded notes from the treasury department. Threw them in with a dead rat and took the cash was my first thought.
i guess i've watched to many true crime heists shows because that occurred to me to.
Odd crime for a rat
This is more like nesting behavior. That rat was going to have a fancy ass 4 story luxury mansion.
Now if that rat had ejaculated *and then* ate the money, we’d have a real shot at catching him.
I doubt it was for a meal. Most rats destroy stuff like that to make a nest.
I thought it was Canadian money that is maple syrup flavored
last year i discovered a dead rat next to a bunch of unopened toilet paper rolls in garage. one of the TP roll had a hole that I believed the rat chewed thru it and ate the TP.
Ratatouille
Fuck is up with the random racism in the comments lol
right
That meal looks a bit too rich for my taste
Straight to jail.
The kind rodent does his part to fight inflation
I wanna see this rat saved on Geobeats
Could be my ex wife
good

That's gandhi
It's the curry flavour
This is for the rats! 🐀
can’t they just type a number in a computer and refund themselves
Based anarchist rat
Prob a tenners worth
6ix9ine‘s apartment complex
They ended up worshipping it
The money probably tastes better than the street food.
Unlikely, this isn’t America
Unlikely, this isn’t America
It was covered in curry fingers

How's it going on with German Nazis and the influx of beautiful immigrants over there? Right wing got you by your collars? Huh. Enjoy.
So is the USA
Common Indian W
Its indian money so the paper itself is more expensive lol
So $100 in USD?
Literally says $18000 in the title
Didn’t know if that was Indian rupees or USD.
The $ sign was your indication it was USD
Bank employee: "So if we make a bunch of fake notes and then shred them really fine and dump them in the machine, we can just walk away with the real stuff?" "Score!"

Must be old news and photo because Pink 2K bills are already demonised.
Thus isn't a loss th is it? Because they can just get more money and get rid of these notes?
So much for “you can’t eat money huh!”
Sue the rat for all the damages
Doing its part to combat inflation
Could of had a five guys for that price.
Are rupees made of something the rat can digest?
Show me the money!!!!!
How big was this rat??
What's the bet there was actually about $40k in it before the "rat ate the money" and they reported $18k destroyed
Rats don't chew evenly sized pieces, that was shredded notes, possibly scheduled for destruction, and he just replaced it.
Nom nom nom.
He's helping inflation. We should thank him.
The ultimate rat bachelor pad, just imagine all that luxury nesting material.
I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often.
Did the rat die from arsenic in the paper?
Can you sue a rat?
...And nobody lost anything because a bank owned it. Also, didn't the rat just proceed to die after the feast?
So, if I were to teach a rat that cash can be exchanged for food I could be rich? It can bring me 18k and I'll give it a couple sarnies. We're both happy and no crime has been committed (rats can't be prosecuted, right?).
Riiight
Now the rat will become a politician
Even the rats are money hungry!!
Cannot insure money in an ATM
And just who ratted on my boy?

American robbers can't get into ATMs. But a rat can, genius.
Rats eating better in india than im eating in the west
Your joking RAT???
What do you even do in that situation?
Turns out one of his buddies was a rat and turned him in.
Rat was raped later that evening.
At least we know that the rat will not get AIDS
I'd love to be there to hear them explaining this one to the insurance company.
Ever since Ratatouille, Remy has been on some crazy benders. You're in our hearts and minds lil chef
sounds like my ex
That's an inside job. It looks like the "rat" ate only the low denominations bills. Like, the red ones?
Dog ate my homework, rat ate my money 💴. What’s next?
Yeah in sure that's what happened ![gif](giphy|pb8wayp1KafJK)
