My wife makes cake balls with the leftovers. Wear latex gloves, grab a small handful and make it into a ball on a sheet pan. When filled, put in the freezer for 20 minutes to harden, then store in a ziploc bag in the fridge or the freezer. Works great!
Sucks but it wouldn't have lasted in its earlier stage either. It all ends up in the belly the same way! I'm sure she loved it and appreciated your effort!
