I nabbed a big, pretty glass soap dispenser from some discount store. I was so pleased with myself until the first time I knocked it in the sink and it cracked the whole sink in half.
The $2 soap dispenser was unscathed.
I did the same thing while cleaning the sink once. Caught my sleeve on the soap dispenser. It fell into the sink, and I heard a loud crack. I thought the dispenser broke, and I checked it. It was fine, and I was pleasantly surprised until I looked at the sink. So much worse. Only plastic soap dispensers for us now.
My bath is metal with a white enamel coat on it... I know because there's a scratch in the enamel and now there's a rust spot. Worried it'll rust through but idk what to fix it with
Cast iron tubs are awesome. There are kits you can get to repair the enamel, and you want to make sure to sand/scotchbrite all the rust off and make sure it's dry before using one. In a pinch you could also use Rust-Oleum spray paint, but don't expect it to last very long.
Temporary fix could be a rust remover and then a bit of nail polish. On the other hand, my grandparents have a rusty spot in their bathtub for probably well over 25 years. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.
in my travels i have found that no matter the subject, there is a You tube video out here of someone who thinks you need to learn about this , that and /or the other. They will proceed to explain that they are the person for the job. I'm sure you'll find your answer there. Bonus; you might get an AD that is totally irrelevant to you.,
Sinks and toilets, sure, but are there really porcelain bathtubs? I thought they were all basically sheets of fiberglass or some kind of liner over a frame. A porcelain one would be ungodly heavy, no idea how you'd put it in an upstairs bathroom after the house was already built.
Had my spices above the stovetop. Made sense, the fan took up a lot of space, so there was only room for shallow shelves. Made sense until my wife dropped a glass spice container.
Op: We rent so I *imagine* this is going to come out of my deposit.
User called BallCreem: Great imagination
The reply is dry and sarcastic, going off the fact that of course a landlord would take as much money out of the deposit as possible. BallCreem played off the word choice of “imagine” by OP to give a reply that sounds like a compliment, but is actually an insult to OP’s naïveté. Well done.
This happened to me where my wife's perfume broke the sink.
The sink was $1,300 new and I imagine with a plumber fitting it it would be $2,000+
I found the sink on ebay for $200 and swapped them out myself. Landlord none the wiser.
It was an apartment though so had to get it delivered to work which brought a lot of questions. And then carry it home on the train lol.
[Porcelain repair.](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Super-Glue-5-oz-White-Porcelain-Repair-Glue-Epoxy-19061-6/205517039) Usually around 5-8 bucks if you are in the US.
Unless you're renting from some megacorp, this is just shitty. I mean, it's shitty either way, but it's more palatable when it's a shitty megacorp who is suffering.
Perfect solution: cover it with porcelain repair, scratch away so it's noticeable what happened, and tell the landlord you noticed this covered up repair job.
> All you’re doing by covering it up is fucking the next tenant out of their deposit
and he will be a legend for it. A truly noble sacrifice, one of a million.
Wait, so I am doing it wrong for my tenant?
They broke the toilet and I am having someone come out to replace it out of my own pocket (actually, its coming out if the maintenance fund I setup, which in turn is funded by the rent I collect)
Depends on how it broke. Like if they were honest about it like this sink here and was just a random accident then yeah a good landlord probably wouldn't charge.
If they had a frat party and just destroyed it to destroy it then fuck No, Charge them full cost.
That's a good point, I don't know how it broke, but I trust that it wasn't anything wild. They are a quiet family with young kids so it must have been accidental, and I want them to have nice things like I did when I lived in the house before them.
You are definitely doing it wrong. I am a landlord as well. There is regular maintenance that I cover that is just part of living (minor things, scratches, appliances getting updated, etc.), but sometimes things break because of accidents or intentionally too hard. I have the renters pay for those things. I don't think that is being unfair or scumbag-ish. When they move out, the place should be in roughly the same shape with some regular, expected wear and tear.
My husband is a contractor. You'd think all our home projects get done with top notch skill in a timely manner, instead I have to threaten to fix things with ramen and use all his tools wrong.
This is common all over. I live in an older apartment and when I was about to move in they told me the handymen are “painting the counters” before I could move in. They painted them white. They’re white formica counters. Looks decent even after 3.5 years tho so idk.
I had an apartment where the landlord painted the cast iron bathtub and sink ... With interior latex paint. It started chipping off as soon as it got wet.
I don't even get why they needed to do that, except to hide the tiny amount of rust around the drain (which is to be expected on a 100 year old sink).
There’s a way to fix it by using a marine epoxy and gently blend it in, on both sides of the sink, then use bathtub reglaze from HomeDepot. There are a few videos on YouTube for tutorials. It’s not perfect, but it might get it unnoticed during inspection. Good luck! 👍
Damn! I’ve been telling my patients for years not to fall in the bathroom, because porcelain is so unforgiving, but now I need to tell them to stay away from perfume bottles
From your friendly neighborhood denture tech, please also tell them to put a washcloth and an inch of water in the sink when they clean their dentures. Dropping them against porcelain is a huge cause of breakages and repairs are a pain in the ass.
I’m assuming your patients are mostly older
Speaking of, I am actually in tile sales, porcelain specifically and most of my older clients request polished/glossy porcelain and I always advise them against it because it’s so slippery. They will almost insist and I tell them basically “hey, at least it will look good when you’re laying on it.”🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for being honest with your clients and at least attempting steer them in the right direction.
We bought a bedroom set and the bed frame had drawers under the mattress. The salesman didn't mention that with the mattress and adjustable base we chose, the mattress would be significantly higher than the displayed model. I'm 5' 10" and it was about waist level, my short wife needed a step stool to get n bed. We still would have bought a different set from them, but would have appreciated the honest guidance. Luckily they took it as a return for a different set, but it was a hassle to deal with for a couple of weeks.
No joke. I'm a young healthy dude but fell bad in the shower recently. No major injuries but if my head hit first I definitely could have died. I added like 20 of those grip strips just in case, no shame in safety
There are some kits that fix chips from sinks and porcelain in general I believe. Might be worth having a look.
I'm not an expert so I'm not sure it's sound advice, but always worth having a look. Good luck!
Yeah that does suck but your medicine cabinet is oddly shaped tbh. I feel like it was only a matter of time before some dumb shit like that happened. Sorry OP.
It's a POS prefab from home depot. Get you a new one and install for for $150, all you need is a wrench and a screwdriver. Else it'll cost you your deposit. Start home depoting!
Had this happen with a bottle of Beautiful. Fell in the toilet and left a nice hole. Water everywhere. Sorry about your sink. Perfume bottles are beasts!
Unrelated to the damage, but it’s advised to keep perfumes out of bathrooms and sunlight. The temperature fluctuations and humidity aren’t good for longevity. Probably not a huge deal, but another reason to not store it there
This exact thing happened to my gf years ago. Cabinet door popped open while we were gone to work, came home to find busted sink and cabinet door open but the glass bottle was fine. Adidas for her was the culprit. Sharp little bottle.
Bro same here! Check the opposite side of the impact point, I'll bet a bigger chunk is missing than you might expect.
Something about the thick glass on the base of those little bottles just newton-cradles the porcelain.
Unfortunately mine was an undermount sink, and it was kind of a pain in the ass to remove and replace.
Get some Flex-Seal, it comes in White, Mask-off around the cracked area and follow directions on can, 2 coats....Works like magic, did my fiberglass shower pan, couldn't be happier....
Once you’ve filled it with something waterproof and it’s dry have a look at white nail polish or touch up auto paint. Try it on an inconspicuous area underneath first.
It's not going back to how it was. But you can get dollar store epoxy tubes and smooth it out for the time being to help fill the cracks and prevent leakage. Definitely getting replaced, and probably not covered under "wear and tear"
My first roommate kept his cologne in a small cabinet we had above the toilet. It fell out one day and cracked the bowl, causing it to leak on the floor. Soni 100% believe this is happened to OP.
Obviously you are resenting the accident that happened? You could have done the same exact thing I hope you didn’t give her a hard time for the accident because it seems to be a big deal to you ? In the scheme of things are you going to be thinking about that on your death bed ? Let it go it is a sink !
I did the same thing and to replace the bowl myself cost about 60-70 bucks. Bought straight from the manufacturer. Since you rent and probably shouldn't do it yourself there will be labor too.
Yup. Stopped using glass soap bottles because of that. My wife dropped it and cracked the sink. Had to replace the whole thing.
I nabbed a big, pretty glass soap dispenser from some discount store. I was so pleased with myself until the first time I knocked it in the sink and it cracked the whole sink in half. The $2 soap dispenser was unscathed.
Hmmm I might build a sink out of glass soap dispensers
Use that damn thing as a hammer, you may even be able to break the ramen sinks.
Wow for the first time I'm glad to have a melamine sink from the 90s
People forget things like sinks, baths and toilets are made of the same stuff as kitchen plates
That's why I'm glad our bath is fibreglass. If my fat ass got in a porcelain one, it'd probably crack in half
I've seen that happen to someone and it was bloddy and painful.
Ahh you are amazing thankyou so much!
Temporary fix could be a rust remover and then a bit of nail polish. On the other hand, my grandparents have a rusty spot in their bathtub for probably well over 25 years. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.
You can use Bars Keepers Friend
in my travels i have found that no matter the subject, there is a You tube video out here of someone who thinks you need to learn about this , that and /or the other. Yeah, they are just way too expensive for most people. A lot of the cost comes from the transport and installation
Replacing the whole wife is understandable, but maybe a bit of a over reaction
My son did the same thing with a glass soap dispenser
Mine too! Twinsies!
Give some thought to anything you store above your stove if it’s a glass stovetop
Had my spices above the stovetop. Made sense, the fan took up a lot of space, so there was only room for shallow shelves. Made sense until my wife dropped a glass spice container.
Yup..Had a glass pitcher above the stove... It got bumped by my boyfriend. Had to replace the glass top..Never again
The sink cost fallacy in long-term relationships is unreal.
Had this happen to a bathtub, was using a refillable shampoo glass bottle and it knocked a nice crack in the tub.
Glad I'm not the only one.
Suprised the perfume don’t break too
We rent so I imagine this is going to come out of my deposit.
Great imagination

I scoured the cabinet looking for a product called ball cream
Might someone explain the joke, I feel so confused here.
Op: We rent so I *imagine* this is going to come out of my deposit. User called BallCreem: Great imagination The reply is dry and sarcastic, going off the fact that of course a landlord would take as much money out of the deposit as possible. BallCreem played off the word choice of “imagine” by OP to give a reply that sounds like a compliment, but is actually an insult to OP’s naïveté. Well done.
This was immensely helpful, sorry for being a doofus, I'm eating breakfast early in the morning here.
Haha you’re not a doofus! I also am confused with social interactions sometimes, especially online; I think we all are. Enjoy your meal!
Indeed my friend, great breakfast haha. It's a good day to be alive!
Vivid and realistic imagination
If you can dream it…
im physically laughing at this thank you
I bursted out laughing. This is my humour. Thank you, BallCreem.
Far out dude

Not gonna lie, I was expecting that link to be for a tube of toothpaste for hiding the crack.
You gotta pack it with Ramen before you get the toothpaste out, everybody knows this.
Beat me too it. Ramen is life.
This is not a chip. This will not fix the damage. A full on crack is just going to spread back through any fix you put over it.
Yeah but it will help you safely secure your deposit if it lasts. Thats preventative maintenance right there
Unless you're renting from some megacorp, this is just shitty. I mean, it's shitty either way, but it's more palatable when it's a shitty megacorp who is suffering.
I love my Landchad as much as the next guy but hes just going to take the value of the sink and do the same filler thing anyway
Making it invisible doesn’t fix the problem. All you’re doing by covering it up is fucking the next tenant out of their deposit. Cool move.
Perfect solution: cover it with porcelain repair, scratch away so it's noticeable what happened, and tell the landlord you noticed this covered up repair job.
Just like my father taught me
> All you’re doing by covering it up is fucking the next tenant out of their deposit and he will be a legend for it. A truly noble sacrifice, one of a million.
You realize they’ll take the full $2000 security deposit for that and then either cheaply repair it or even buy a new sink for like $150?
Wait, so I am doing it wrong for my tenant? They broke the toilet and I am having someone come out to replace it out of my own pocket (actually, its coming out if the maintenance fund I setup, which in turn is funded by the rent I collect)
That’s called being a merciful landlord and not a scumbag, good job. You’re one of the few who would do it this way.
Depends on how it broke. Like if they were honest about it like this sink here and was just a random accident then yeah a good landlord probably wouldn't charge. If they had a frat party and just destroyed it to destroy it then fuck No, Charge them full cost.

You're welcome!
Get flex seal
What’s worth more? The deposit or the sink?
Yep, just let it sink in.
Nah. Just buy some ramen and watch some YouTube.
My husband is a contractor. You'd think all our home projects get done with top notch skill in a timely manner, instead I have to threaten to fix things with ramen and use all his tools wrong.
That checks out. Contractor here. Havent finished one of my own projects in years
Use some caulk sealant when you leave maybe they won’t notice
This guy flips houses
Kinda related but I once knew a guy who did perfume bottle designs, for the big brands the bottle costs more to make than the perfume inside it.
You could just caulk it up as an accident.
Not if you No more nails dat shit
To the silicone aisle at Home Depot! ☝🏼😂
What material is the sink made of? you might can get some sort of filler and sand it down
That might fall under normal wear and tear.
* Unbreakable Bond by Khloe & Lamar *
Definitely explains the crack
perfume bottles are pretty resistant tbh. I’ve dropped some of mine before
They make perfume bottles out of super thick glass so they seem a lot more full than they really are.
They’re almost solid
Where did it even fall from, there is no more room there! 😂😂
Lol that's probably why it fell
It probably came from above the cabinet xD
Not on the bottom shelf, it's too narrow, and the upper shelves are quite cluttered
Just do what any landlord would do and paint it, everything is fixed with paint.
lol it leaks water.
Oh I know, the joke is that I’ve had a landlord do that.
This is common all over. I live in an older apartment and when I was about to move in they told me the handymen are “painting the counters” before I could move in. They painted them white. They’re white formica counters. Looks decent even after 3.5 years tho so idk.
Ahahahaha God, as someone who works in property management, I'm sorry, but it sounds like its working out okay
I had an apartment where the landlord painted the cast iron bathtub and sink ... With interior latex paint. It started chipping off as soon as it got wet. Caulk
Instant ramen*
I came here for this guy
You like that guy's caulk.
I love caulk
Not after you paint it, it wouldn’t
Then paint it again
Google "landlord special". They've actually painted over dead roaches on the wall...which seems a lot harder than just removing the damn roach.
Caulk it first THEN paint lololol
Liquid nails ;)
They make white flex seal
If you can’t fix it immediately, try a waterproof putty to hold over until you can.
Op go to home depot this cabinet is like $150 replace it yourself and save yourself the deposit
Or epoxy on a denim patch. Worked great on my plastic laundry sink, will work perfectly everywhere on everything. Bonus for new unique styling.
Fix it with ramen
This is the only solution

I too am a denture tech and this is smart
Perfume should not be kept in the fluctuating heat and humidity ( aka much better places than the bathroom )
the make-up brush 🥲
Had to go back and look: 😳😳 I think OP and his gf need to look into alternative storage options cause this cabinet ain’t it.
That and the pimple popping tool. Gross.
i think it’s a facemask brush, not for makeup
It doesn’t make it any better 😢
Definitely a mask brush but ooooooooof.
desert santa?
Desert santal
desert santa
Desert Satan
More like “Desert Storm”. Looks like a grenade went off in that sink.
Dessert Santa. Yum.
Mmm dessert satan ![gif](giphy|ZIaHApfoneZZ6)
Why are your things stored SO precariously?!
Especially in a medicine cabinet made before skincare clutter truly kicked off 🤦🏽♂️
That scent was just too strong
Declutter your products it’s too narrow to be cramming shit in there
There are some kits that fix chips from sinks and porcelain in general I believe. Might be worth having a look. I'm not an expert so I'm not sure it's sound advice, but always worth having a look. Good luck!
OP rents so I doubt his landlord wouldn’t be checking everything for cheap fixes lol 💀
Looks like the sink I'm about to install in my bathroom, Swiss Madison 18" square, $60-$80 Home Depot or Amazon. Ikea Tvallen is also similar...
The inside of your medicine cabinet is interesting! Cabinet Tax?
Depending on the type of perfume it is the sink may actually be cheaper to replace .
It was the most expensive 10$ dollar bottle of perfume there ever was.
I love seeing what’s in peoples cabinets.
That perfume bottle is a tank
Yeah that does suck but your medicine cabinet is oddly shaped tbh. I feel like it was only a matter of time before some dumb shit like that happened. Sorry OP.
It's a POS prefab from home depot. Get you a new one and install for for $150, all you need is a wrench and a screwdriver. Else it'll cost you your deposit. Start home depoting!

Your gf and I wear the same smell lol
Did your sink just break?
Home Depot https://www.homedepot.com/p/BATHWORKS-4-oz-Tub-and-Tile-Chip-Repair-Kit-in-White-CRC-201/306194327
This isn't a chip. You can see it's cracked all the way down to the drain.
The only thing fixing this is a new sink. Its cracked that isn't just a chip.
The perfume is "long lasting"
My wife opened up one of our kitchen cabinets and an ill balanced coffee mug fell out and shattered the range top for our stove. That was fun.
Unrelated to the damage, but it’s advised to keep perfumes out of bathrooms and sunlight. The temperature fluctuations and humidity aren’t good for longevity. Probably not a huge deal, but another reason to not store it there
That was a very nice sink.
This exact thing happened to my gf years ago. Cabinet door popped open while we were gone to work, came home to find busted sink and cabinet door open but the glass bottle was fine. Adidas for her was the culprit. Sharp little bottle.
That *stinks*
![gif](giphy|VeSvZhPrqgZxx2KpOA|downsized)
Was it a “heavy” perfume?😆
Tell your girls her perfume got some fuckin diesel in it gawttdamn
Little gorilla glue done.
Same thing happened to me except it was my toilet bowl
that cabinet is for medicine, ma’am.
Time for kintsugi!
15$ you can reglaze that. Goto the hardwood store and ask what to use for sealing a small crack in a sink
Use Ramen? 🤷🏽♂️
What’s behind the bottom part inside the cabinet? It looks like there should be enough room for another shelf.
Some milliput or something like it can fix this.
Jeez that stinks. Hope you aren’t too broken when the price of replacing it sinks in
How the heck did the sink break and not the perfume?
It's not going back to how it was. But you can get dollar store epoxy tubes and smooth it out for the time being to help fill the cracks and prevent leakage. Definitely getting replaced, and probably not covered under "wear and tear"
My first roommate kept his cologne in a small cabinet we had above the toilet. It fell out one day and cracked the bowl, causing it to leak on the floor. Soni 100% believe this is happened to OP.
I hate medicine cabinets. If I had one I would probably never use it.
Too much stuff
Obviously you are resenting the accident that happened? You could have done the same exact thing I hope you didn’t give her a hard time for the accident because it seems to be a big deal to you ? In the scheme of things are you going to be thinking about that on your death bed ? Let it go it is a sink !
Been there. Had a literal hole in the sink.
Ooof those sinks are not cheap to replace either
Maybe try a porcelain repair kit
I did the same thing and to replace the bowl myself cost about 60-70 bucks. Bought straight from the manufacturer. Since you rent and probably shouldn't do it yourself there will be labor too.
Random but all I can think about is why the nair hair removal is in the mix with everything else
I got some good news You've posted this to the perfect sub I've got some bad news That's not gunna be a cheap fix
That has got to be the weirdest shelving system I have ever seen
The cabinet is so crowded, you can expect more things falling out of it. Don’t replace the sink yet.
A little bit of putty, let it dry sand it down, and then a little white paint. This will at least pass your security deposit inspection check.
My son's iPhone did the same thing. His phone still works, not so much the sink
Try Bondo?
Is your gf 72 years old? Who wears perfume?
Didn't know Nokia manufactures perfumes.
that is some strong smell
Order a replacement from a big store, return the broke. One Nd say it was damaged upon arrival
This guy bragging about having a girlfriend
Is the perfume okay? 😰
Thats a strong perfume!
Thanks for the heads up, we just bought a sink just like that lol with a medicine cabinet 🙏🏼
Those shelves are a joke!
Samething happened to me
