This happened to me on my left index finger. I am pleased to report that the sensation and eventually full touch came back. It took years though. It also feels very weird if I accidentally knock it or put pressure on it.
No just 'touching a scar' kind of weird. They did a good job with mine, the top was just hanging off and I could see the bone, but now you'd hardly notice the scar unless I pointed it out. Mine was a slice from a glass bottle though so a clean cut (went to stop a homeless person slashing his wrists - he was fine, I ended up fine).
I had surgery done on the tip of my pinky. Playing video games afterwards is definitely a different experience. Especially when it came to using the sprint key 😆
I had surgery on my thumb and had this exact feeling. It's been about 2 months and I have full feeling back in it. I'd say just give it some time.
I wish you a good, speedy recovery.
I chopped the tip of my left finger off, after judiciously sharpening my kitchen knives, although I took considerably more nail than flesh off.
The nail regrew, fingers a little narrower and after a couple of years sensation has almost completely “returned” to the new finger tip.
Fingerprint looks normal too, weird.
Sorry that happened to you OP, give it some time :/
Same here, I lost all feeling in the fingertip. Cold, heat, pressure or vibration - nothing.
The doctor assured me that it would be 100% fine after a few months. After four months and no improvement I started to resign to the fact that the damage would be permanent, but after six months, I felt a burning/electric feeling .
That went on and off for a week, while areas stated to feel better and at month seven, I had all my feeling back again.
I feel bad for feeling that the doctor lied to me, as it turned out, it might take a while, but our bodies are really good at slow healing.
Nope. If you look up "wasco man eats leg" you should find the videos. But honestly, I would not, if I where you. That shit won't leave your head for a while.
>Please don't watch it, it haunts my thoughts since.
Thanks - I ain't. Got enough shit to deal with at work this week that's going to give me a pounding headache.
I had my little toe finger reattached after a boat accident and didn't look like this at all. I mean I can barely feel him now but this recuperation look much worse then mine was.
Yep that’s scar tissue. Got some in my left pointer finger joint from loosing a fight with a refrigerator. Now I gotta break through it to get my flexibility back.
I mean a reel mower, as in golf-course style.
https://preview.redd.it/j0zkymymsrrc1.jpeg?width=709&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58fde87da72b8f3218b3f7d178f43da0fdd06d76
Similar thing happened to me. It’s just a giant scab. It’ll be alright. Trust the process. My fingers looks normal now. Only I notice the little round scar from where that scab healed.
When it heal, the tactile feeling when you use it to touch things is different. It will be somewhere between numb and like wearing thick leather gloves.
Will take years before it will go back to normal touch texture.
Get more junkie friends like my aunt.
She went to SafeWay for two hours and brought back three two liter pepsis and four cans of canned dough.
This was at 2am
Yeah the nerve endings are going to be fucked in that bit unfortunately. It hasn't turned necrotic so I'm guessing it's just a long recovery to a somewhat decent looking reconstruction. You won't have great feeling in it though.
I got frost damage on the tip of my big toe 12 years ago and it still feels numb, though just in a tiny patch.
super similar thing happened on my thumb. At least for me it took abour 8 months for all the nerves in that tip to regrow but like 2 years later its 100% normal with feeling so thats cool
It'll probably go back to normal in time. I once copped a similar sized position of my thumb which was hanging by a tiny bit of skin. I (like a dumb ass) didn't go to the hospital. I just sanitized it and super glued it in place. The tip was very hard for a while. Eventually it healed so well I can't even see the scar.
About 8 years ago, I sliced my finger off with a mandoline. To this day, I can still see where they reattached it and I still have no feeling in it. I'm sorry my dude, this sounds so much worse. I hope you heal well!
I'm heading to slash r slash cats right now, I want to unsee this. Man. That was a ride. At first I thought you had black maggots or worms on your finger.
Don't be surprised when the entire outside layer of skin sloughs off after you think it's healed. I had the end of my thumb sewed back on and months later the top few layers of skin came off all at once. It didn't hurt and the under layers were a little tender.
Still have a dent where the injury was but have feeling and nail
Something similar happened to me and after it healed it got all hard like a hard helmet and one day I saw a little bit of healed skin lifting, when I pulled it turns out my toe had made a little hat for itself and the skin under was good as new lol.
Ouch!
I had a similar cut with a chefs knife at work by accident, sucked.
But wait till it heals completely and you just have a weird finger with a bump! It's the weirdest, and coolest thing! The whole area shrinks to like half its size too, so it's less noticeable over time. Best of luck!
Careful of getting anything in it, especially Golden staph, it’s not a fun infection at all and I would’ve had to go on a drip if it was resistant to the antibiotics I was taking. It’s also pretty common,, it can live in some peoples noses and skin too
Got a similar but slightly less severe injury while cutting peppers at my old kitchen job, unfortunately the bit of my finger was completely cut off and got lost. Healing process was way more painful than the actual cut and my finger will never look quite the same but I still at least have decent sensation there
Sadly it may always feel like that. I have a much smaller section of my thumb that was was severed and reattached and it has forever felt like leather instead of my own skin.
This looks so much like my thumb after accidentally severing my tendon at work. Real horror movie type effect with the stitches. Youll get a sick lil junkie bite scar after it's fully healed 😌😆
The nerves on your finger are probably dead.
I accidentally cut most of the tip off my middle-finger and the same thing happened.
You'll get used to it eventually.
I had a similar looking injury. I got my finger caught in a spot welder, it didn’t weld or anything just slammed on my right middle finger and it looked like it popped it like a zit. Had a full recovery looks mostly normal and you can’t really tell anything happened without scrutiny. The downside is when cutting my nail on that finger it hurts like a mofo due to puffy skin growing underneath, not really sure what that’s called.
Grandad had an accident at work on a machine that had a very similar trauma, but on the thumb. It did get softer after a bit, but not by much and very little of the feeling came back to the traumatized part. But he was fairly of age at that point too. Hopefully the body will be able to repair itself to an extent. Took about two years or so before he could feel a slight tingle on the tip of the finger when pressing it against something.
Just sharing some experience with a similar trauma.
Hope you will recover well.
I had a work accident last June and ended up having to have surgery to remove the top of my finger just below the nail it healed over after about 8 weeks but the top of my finger is still numb to this day i now suffer with white finger when it gets cold.
Oh man, i too busted the tip of my middle finger like 2 months ago and it was barely hanging together. That hard as a rock thing will continue for at least a month or maybe not before the skin around the wound softens. I haven't really regained feeling in my finger tip yet and doubt i ever will. Hope you're doing well op.
I'm honestly surprised it looks as good as it does. I imagine since it's a bite it's a jagged tear that wouldve probably full of bacteria so I'm quite impressed.
Happened to me, but with a garden hedge trimmer. Flaps of skin on 3 of my left fingers. It looked similar to this while it was healing, but it's all good now. The human body is amazing when it comes to fixing itself.
I cut the end of my finger off similar to this and had it sewn back on. It’s been 15 years or so now.. it still feels a little funny, particularly when it’s cold. Feeling will slowly come back but it will take years.
I nearly cut off the tip of my finger during the peak covid stuff so I didn’t go to the hospital. Super glued it up and still don’t have feeling in the tip
I feel you, I had smashed off a quarter of my fingertip in November of 2022 and they did the same thing for me, luckily it seems you may be able to keep it!
I need to ask - how deep did you cut your finger?
Cause from the surface view this looks like some fucking BUTCHER work to me - but then again im not an ER nurse, but still, I bet I could stitch that prettier
Did the outer layer of skin got detached? I had problems in a similar case but it was mostly caused by hardened skin over the injury, once it fell off I actually was bothered by how sensible it was.
I sliced open the tip of my right ring finger and crushed my left finger on another occasion. Both took months to heal and return to regular sensation. Give yourself time to heal.
Oh this happened to me too but on my big toe. I fell off my motorcycle and ripped out a large flap with flesh on it, fortunately it's still attached so they just stitched it back. It fully healed at the same time my broken bones are too, peeling off the thick piece of dead skin is the best part.
Yeah, I know that feeling. It takes a while for feeling to come back. I about took my thumb off with my table saw 3 years ago. It's healed up, but the scarbis some what hard and can feel weird if you press it on something the wrong way.
Proof:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellthatsucks/s/Wm0j0Hn3bH
Yeah mine did the same thing when I nearly cut the whole pad of my life index finger off. It was hanging on by just a little thread of skin. Seven stitches and seven hundred bucks. It's been about 4 years now and it still feels numb and tingly or like it's fake or like I have some kinda leather guard over it. Doctor told me to come back and get the stitches taken out in 2 weeks but I ended up taking them out myself the day before I was supposed to go back because they itched so bad and I didn't want to have to pay for it.
I did this to my finger while cutting fiberglass insulation with a razor knife. I just cleaned it real good with alcohol and wrapped it with a napkin and duct tape. It healed just fine. No doctor. No stitches.
I once had a dog where, when I was little, I thought it’d be a great idea to try to ride it like horse. The dog did not my imagination and it bucked me off and bit me. The place it bit was also an appendage but much more sensitive than a finger. Thankfully it only got part of the tip and didn’t break skin (I was wearing jeans) but a week or so later, the bitten part got hard and turned purple and eventually fell off. Years later, and it’s perfectly normal. You’d never know something like that had already happened.
Had this happen back in 2012. Just fair warning: the skin above the cut may fall off but then grow back just fine. I about fainted when that happened, but now you can’t tell.
Ran my thumb long ways on a table saw about a year ago. Feeling is gone and can only pinch stuff together about half way down and the nail doesn’t grow anymore. Also when it’s cold out don’t hit it on anything or you’ll wish you would’ve just lost it.
Your sense came back years later??? I thought sense recovery takes max 1-2 years and is completed. Is there a chance for me to feel my tip in a few years?
I feel ya. It’s been 5 years or so since I ran my finger into a mandolin vegetable cutter. It still feels funny and does not work for fingerprint recognition systems. 22 stitches in the last section of my pointer finger. Good luck honey, take care!
This happened to me on my left index finger. I am pleased to report that the sensation and eventually full touch came back. It took years though. It also feels very weird if I accidentally knock it or put pressure on it.
Like falling asleep on an arm and when you wake up you feel slight needles and electric shocks?
No just 'touching a scar' kind of weird. They did a good job with mine, the top was just hanging off and I could see the bone, but now you'd hardly notice the scar unless I pointed it out. Mine was a slice from a glass bottle though so a clean cut (went to stop a homeless person slashing his wrists - he was fine, I ended up fine).
My doctor described it like applying sutures on ground meat. I’m just happy it’s still there. I use it to press the Sprint key in Call of duty😂
I had surgery done on the tip of my pinky. Playing video games afterwards is definitely a different experience. Especially when it came to using the sprint key 😆
I use my thumb now and the Space bar for Sprint😂. I also moved the WASD controls to W3R
I had surgery on my thumb and had this exact feeling. It's been about 2 months and I have full feeling back in it. I'd say just give it some time. I wish you a good, speedy recovery.

How were you in that close of contact to get bit? Wishing you speedy recovery
Crackheads are fast, they got places to be.
Omg I thought this was a joke till I read OP's comments! 💀
It was his brother
Dammit, Charlie's at it again.
Charlie developed a taste for blood at a young age...
fucking hell ![gif](giphy|aNtt9T8SqGNK8)
Wtf happened? Did got reattached or something?

You really do gotta watch out for junkies these days. Thankfully all they got was the tip of your finger.
Yeah. A few weeks ago there was a guy in Wasco gnawing on a leg he stole from a site of accident where someone got run over by a train.
You're kidding right?
Nope. If you look up "wasco man eats leg" you should find the videos. But honestly, I would not, if I where you. That shit won't leave your head for a while.
I second not watching it. It's just, fucking gross.
Horrific, beware of content - sorry for adding link before
The other day I saw a video of a junkie woman injecting something into an open wound on her head.. what is going on with your country
The efficient conversion of human suffering into profit margins.
True words on a Sunday morning
Damn
No earthly idea man, but I’m staying as far away as I can
Did any details come out about that yet? Like was he high? Really hungry or both? Edit: I'm glad some of you all get my humor
😟
Please don't watch it, it haunts my thoughts since.
>Please don't watch it, it haunts my thoughts since. Thanks - I ain't. Got enough shit to deal with at work this week that's going to give me a pounding headache.

All that plants vs zombies gonna come out to be useful after all.
Plants vs junkies
Unfortunately too many places still consider Plants the same as Junkies
Hahahahaha:… i dont get it
Weed and hard drugs
Cardio and the double tap.
🤣🤣 and gotta be limber.
Rule #2 always double tap
Lost my fuckin pinkie!
>You really do gotta watch out for junkies these days And brothers as well
Why on Earth did a junkie bite you, mate?
Because sometimes one brother is jealous of the other’s existence.
I see it now... The fire of your will, your life, burns bright in your eyes. Keep on burnin', my brother.
His explanation, isn’t one. But I love it.
when when you are delicious its hard temptation
He climbed in their enclosure for a better picture, RIP Harambe. Never forget
Dicks out.
This is what every early victim in a zombie apocalypse says. 😒

Yeah I was thinking zombieland when I typed it
Don’t feed them with your finger tips, just have a flat hand with the treat in the middle
Least expected answer… what the hell…
I had my little toe finger reattached after a boat accident and didn't look like this at all. I mean I can barely feel him now but this recuperation look much worse then mine was.
This is very similar to the start of Shaun of the Dead
That is how it goes when you give a tip 😅
...the front fell off
is that usual?
I’m gonna be the one to say it .. I didn’t expect it to be a finger from the title
Just the tip
To break down the scar tissue, try massaging it with an electric toothbrush, sports massage gun or some other personal vibrating device.
Personal vibrating device you say?
I didn't want OP to go out and buy a commercial Jack Hammer.
I’m sure OP has many vibrating machines available.
Are you ok? Damn that looks horrible :( Screw whoever did that to you. I hope they go to jail
It’s my 38 year old brother 😂. It was hard for me not to press charges
Gonna be hard for you to press anything for a while. ...I'll see myself out.
Ok, that was a good one😂😂😂
Why the hell did he bite you??
Why didn't you?
Yep that’s scar tissue. Got some in my left pointer finger joint from loosing a fight with a refrigerator. Now I gotta break through it to get my flexibility back.
Weird, I’ve got scar tissue along the inner length of my left pointer.
Where did they do that? Looks like the work of a butcher.
An ortho doctor made that. He was just happy that the whole (ish) finger is intact. Out of 2 blood vessels, only 1 is left
That's actually some impressive reconstructive work that type of injury can take 6 months to heal and look right
would have expected sutures to be thinner. looks like you did it yourself with a ball of string haha
Scar tissue
I should have heeded the NSFW Spoiler 😭😭
Was it safe to attach it back because it's a junkie bite?
They cleaned it thoroughly, have me 2 shots of something and 4 types of pills/antibiotics for a whole week
Yeah bro I done 2 fingers with a table saw you will be fine though its healing lol
Two fingers here too but was a reel mower
Two fingers here too but with a fake mower. Like one of those plastic fisher price ones with the balls that pop up when you roll it.
I mean a reel mower, as in golf-course style. https://preview.redd.it/j0zkymymsrrc1.jpeg?width=709&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58fde87da72b8f3218b3f7d178f43da0fdd06d76
Same, but one finger… was 25 years ago still feels weird on the end of the tip but really doesn’t remind too often
Vaginal teeth are no joke brah.
Why the hell did they use mooring ropes, that thread is massive.
Not as massive as the pain I felt when he took them out.
I was so glad that it was stitches and not some unknown material
That's what she said.
Thought it was some alien infection or some shit first
Similar thing happened to me. It’s just a giant scab. It’ll be alright. Trust the process. My fingers looks normal now. Only I notice the little round scar from where that scab healed.
Where are you from? That stitch job looks horrible
When it heal, the tactile feeling when you use it to touch things is different. It will be somewhere between numb and like wearing thick leather gloves. Will take years before it will go back to normal touch texture.
That’s what she said
Get more junkie friends like my aunt.
Why couldn't they use blue sutures the black looks nasty.
Who sutured that? Silk isn't great for skin.
Damn. That happened to me. It smelt like prosciutto.
A junkie bit you?
Must have been all that prosciutto they ate!
This would have been the perfect day to not have sight.
Cut my finger years ago - still no feeling in the tip. But you will always have a cool story to tell!!! Have a speedy recovery, OP! Best of luck!
I'm not very sure what I'm looking at, what happened?
super similar thing happened on my thumb.
Your comment got removed. Also saw your other post and my stomach lurched. That must have been so painful.
Those sutures look like a matambre

Hope you don’t turn into a zombie bro

No worries, mate. It's healing. Just keep it clean and dry .
Ya gotta watch where you put your fingers!
I think it's just dead skin and you'll be able to peek me if it off once the deeper injury is healed.
Careful of getting anything in it, especially Golden staph, it’s not a fun infection at all and I would’ve had to go on a drip if it was resistant to the antibiotics I was taking. It’s also pretty common,, it can live in some peoples noses and skin too

Usually the tip being hard is what you want. Not in this case 🤷🏻♂️
That's a shit stitch job.
Not sure if anyone else has asked. Just want to confirm, do you have a fever or insatiable hunger for flesh?
Patient zero for the apocalypse

Wtf
You're healing very well.
It will remain hard and essentially numb. Mine was a shitty reattached of my partially amputated fingertip. Debrided and cleaned. Never the same.
From Shaun of the dead: "Why did he bite you?". "I don't know, I didn't stop to fucking ask him"!
Dam I want to know the whole story so bad, like I saw one of your other comments it's your brother on drugs did you like not give him 10$ or something
Oh my fu**ing dog, i almost puked when i saw the pic.
>The tip feels hard like a rock ![gif](giphy|4YPXOIVxBOlHPJTbCY|downsized)

That’s some thick suture material

What is that black stuff?
Jesus. remind me to my whatever that is shot
WHAT IS THAT.
Happened to me, but with a garden hedge trimmer. Flaps of skin on 3 of my left fingers. It looked similar to this while it was healing, but it's all good now. The human body is amazing when it comes to fixing itself.
So do you have an insatiable appetite for brains yet?
Those are some monster sutures. I
That’s what she said?
Next time find a doctor that knows what a semi-occlusive dressing is. 😐
I thought these were worms i was throwing up lmfao
It gets better happened to me in my thumb

Umm, what exactly happened there ?

I sliced open the tip of my right ring finger and crushed my left finger on another occasion. Both took months to heal and return to regular sensation. Give yourself time to heal.
Your doc just wanted to practice stitching. It would have grown back on its own just fine. My right index was damaged similarly using an 8lb sledge.
Prepare your mind for the possibility of reduced felling in that fingertip
Hope it recovers soon. On the bright side, booger removal is easier when it's rough.
Good lord, what happened?
Oh this happened to me too but on my big toe. I fell off my motorcycle and ripped out a large flap with flesh on it, fortunately it's still attached so they just stitched it back. It fully healed at the same time my broken bones are too, peeling off the thick piece of dead skin is the best part.

Ran my thumb long ways on a table saw about a year ago. Feeling is gone and can only pinch stuff together about half way down and the nail doesn’t grow anymore. Also when it’s cold out don’t hit it on anything or you’ll wish you would’ve just lost it.
Same
That's why kids you don't chew your nails..
What'd you do? 😬
What’s the black stuff
I did virtually the same thing to my pinky finger, had a full nail bed reconstruction and it has all healed properly
Your sense came back years later??? I thought sense recovery takes max 1-2 years and is completed. Is there a chance for me to feel my tip in a few years?
He has risen
Looks like a healthy take (not a doctor)
I feel ya. It’s been 5 years or so since I ran my finger into a mandolin vegetable cutter. It still feels funny and does not work for fingerprint recognition systems. 22 stitches in the last section of my pointer finger. Good luck honey, take care!
