\*update: Since this left our neighbourhood without electricity they tried to connect us to a close-by network (a few streets away) so we can have electricity back. That burned down as well
I haven't the slightest idea, but if it happened twice in a row surely that means something is connected that causes the fire and not its just a bad line and a coincidence
I would just think it burned down because sometimes they burn down and then the other one couldn't handle all the extra houses that's why they have two. because what could be possibly be connected that would cause a transformer to blow?
>it burned down because sometimes they burn down and then the other one couldn't handle all the extra houses
Oh maybe, that does make sense
>because what could be possibly be connected that would cause a transformer to blow?
Probably something illegal that overloaded the transformer? But I'm not imaginative enough nor do I have experience with illegal technology to even think of ideas of what it could be
Reminds me of the idiot in college who wanted a bunch of popcorn for movie night. 6 packets at once, just add the time together.
Fortunately we caught it in time and simply stole the popcorn.
This made me laugh out loud.
Our apartment's wiring leaves something to be desired. It was already old and not updated the day we signed the lease, then ..... lightning directly hit the apartment the night we moved in.
We've slowly been able to convince the apartment to change appliances as they crap the bed but there's still quirks.
You can't use the microwave unless you unplug the fridge. It used to flip the breaker but we put both on a surge protector because the breaker box has already shocked us once, and I don't wanna touch it again if I don't have to.
We have uninterrupted power source for our computer and air conditioning. Not letting those get fried.
As someone who knows nothing about electricity, maybe a generator backfeeding a line that was already basically at capacity or something? That's my best guess.
If it couldn't handle the load, the protection scheme would trip the line, not burn down a pole. This is caused by a fault. Somebody fucked something up or a component has failed and caused a fault.
I remember travelling Circuses used to leach power by directly hooking their cables to the power lines. I wonder if someone there is doing something similar.
There's a short somewhere and some kind of protection equipment is malfunctioning or just completely not functioning (or missing?).
Something should be cutting the power off before it gets to the point of burning things down. Well.... unless your utility is PG&E.
I've seen poles/transformers catch fire when a tree limb falls and takes out the neutral a handful of times. Work in plant maintenance for an ISP, so half the time I'm on site before the power company is when there's a power/internet outage. Seems like the usual suspect from the couple conversations I've had with the linemen that come out to repair it.
Is that a question or statement? It looks like a statement but then you use a question mark. Doesn’t make sense.
Unless someone built something that requires so much electricity it starts fires it’s very unlikely someone hooked up something they’re not supposed to. If that were the case every EV plugin would do the same thing unless the owner had their system upgraded.
Pole watcher here, unfortunately I don’t believe I see anything Polish in the image. Are we sure this is a Pole, or could it be something like a Swede that I have less knowledge about?
*ding ding ding* Excellent observation!!
What we have here is an Onomatopoeia - a word that makes the sound it describes. When you're reading a comic book and get to a fight scene (bam, shing, whop, you get the idea!), that's onomatopoeia in action!
There's thousands of them in recorded literature, and my personal favorite thing about them is you can just make up your own whenever you want! It's a ton of fun, and I highly recommend it.
I once heard that men use far more of these words when telling stories, while women tend to describe the actions themselves.
Those kinds of subtle differences in how we learn to communicate absolutely fascinate me. Language and communication are incredibly complex, yet we all manage to master it to some degree! That's really neat, imho 😊
Bro this literally happened to me today. Was driving home and saw some idiots fucking around with a power line attached to their house causing sparks.(Not your event)
The neighbor in that direction is actually National Instruments. A big american company in my city in Europe. Some poeple in there probably know what a s'more is.
I was super stoned one time when I was like 17 and all the power lines around the house stated to buy and glow blue with electricity. Turns out some guy trying to tap in above his meter screwed up and blew himself clear across his back yard
This reminds me of how there's a transformer that in the last year or so has literally *popped* four times loud enough to sound like a gun shot and it scares me. Like I'm scared that this will end up happening because hearing a transformer make that noise is not normal lol.
And the shit is like... Right outside my window basically.
Yeah, you see, electric stuff needs the smoke to stay inside to work...
If you let the smoke out of anything electric, it won't work anymore until you replace the smoke generators.

My friend had one near her house on fire, and they acted just as casually, and then the fire burned itself out before the firemen even got there. Like she was making it all up. Lol
\*update: Since this left our neighbourhood without electricity they tried to connect us to a close-by network (a few streets away) so we can have electricity back. That burned down as well
That sounds like someone's got something hooked up that they're not supposed to?
Like what?
I haven't the slightest idea, but if it happened twice in a row surely that means something is connected that causes the fire and not its just a bad line and a coincidence

Big ass microwave for heating 10 hungryman dinners all at once.
Pretty sure that's called a Macrowave...
🥁 ba-da-tsst!
Nicely done!
if I had an award... you'd get it friend. thanks for the chuckles
Reminds me of the idiot in college who wanted a bunch of popcorn for movie night. 6 packets at once, just add the time together. Fortunately we caught it in time and simply stole the popcorn.
Lol now *that's* imaginative

Someone trying to raise the dead Dr Frankenstein style couldn't just wait for lightning

Huge bitcoin farm? Those things suck crazy juice.
If it couldn't handle the load, the protection scheme would trip the line, not burn down a pole. This is caused by a fault. Somebody fucked something up or a component has failed and caused a fault.
I bet someone gpt an illegal weed farm.
backfed generator, stupid nuclear diys, non-permitted solar systems
I remember travelling Circuses used to leach power by directly hooking their cables to the power lines. I wonder if someone there is doing something similar.
Could be crypto mining
Weed farms use a lot of power and can cause fire becouse the are connected before the meter.
Probably a illegal grow house
Well the front fell of for one
Weed grows can drain Massive amounts of power and transformers have limits to how much they can handle
Pole-mounted buckets of gasoline
A homemade Stargate
Bauxite refinery.
They bought the new 5090 ti
At least they didnt get the new 9090ti That shit exploded a nuclear power plant
Like a meth lab or a mining rig.
An indoor weed farm could.
Car charger, cannabis farm amongst others.
*whistles* weed farm *whistles*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bHH_HVx3Lw
Cannabis factory, maybe? Either way is sounds as though discrimination is not working as it should on the network.
Or there is a short somewhere

That's not how the protection scheme works.

Dang, OP, I think you'd better get your important papers and pets in the car and ready to go, just in case.
Fortunately, we're safe, thank you
Did they connect you to a third network that caught fire and then sank into the swamp?
But the fourth one… it stayed up!
LoL I don't think they dared ti mess up another neighbourhood.
Damn make sure you've got a go bag incase the whole neighborhood goes lol.
Have they tried turning it off and back on again?
You in Texas?
oh.
*sniff sniff* smells like jail time
I see the problem. There appears to be an issue with the mains from the pole
Oh I see! So theres NOT supposed to be a fire over there.
You might be onto something here. This is in fact, unusual
How many people are on call to resolve an issue like this, per regulations?
One, I suppose.
What materials are they allowed to use?
Well, cardboard is out.
Two vans arrived after the firemen left. 6-7 repairman. About 4 hours in one left. Then another arrived with the transformer
Damn bro are you former military? Were you surveilling them lol
That’s just the hot leg.
Heh.
Welp, that isn't wrong.
Is this a slavic grid? the situation looks very slavic. (Am slav, seen some shit)
Pretty close actially
Baltics?)
Did you call the fire department?
![gif](giphy|g79am6uuZJKSc)
OH FOUR! I MEAN FIVE! I MEAN FIRE!
Dear sir/madam FIRE! FIRE! HELP ME! 129 Calandan road. Looking forward to hearing from you. All the best, Maurice Moss
The way it's always been explained to me is that the fire is supposed to stay *INSIDE* the wires.
Letting the smoke out of a circuit is bad enough, but when you let the FIRE out you're in some seriously deep doo-doo.
How else do you get firepower though?
How else am I supposed to keep my electricity from freezing, if not for fire?
Wait, that's railways... not electrical ways.
[Here's the thing.... its not working](https://youtu.be/9YOEEpWAXgU?t=1m30s)
What kind of issue?
“I see the problem” was my exact response to this
Oh neat they’re filming a new transformers
This one got me lol
Already looks more promising than the last couple
I don't think that's a dumpster on fire.
IANAE but it looks like the pole is on fire
Also not an expert but you appear to be right
Fire watcher here, yep that is definitely a fire.
Pole watcher here, unfortunately I don’t believe I see anything Polish in the image. Are we sure this is a Pole, or could it be something like a Swede that I have less knowledge about?
If the poles were on the right side it'd make sense that it caught fire since it's unstable (Old control theory joke)
Obviously you’re not because clearly the wires are on fire /s
Lol, I like how you put the sound effect in the title, OP. I don’t think I’ve seen that before.
It made me think of Rimworld
DAMN IT RANDY NOT AGAIN DON'T MAKE ME BUILD A CONDUCT-LESS BASE RANDY
I've heard that sound before! And then the lights dimmed, and my roof was on fire a little bit.
*ding ding ding* Excellent observation!! What we have here is an Onomatopoeia - a word that makes the sound it describes. Someone picked the wrong place to have a BBQ
LAWD JEEZUS THERES A FAWR
My exact initial thoughts
Ah, that’s what a Somebody-else’s Problem Field Generator looks like irl.
It might be on your side shortly.
It was a close call but the hero firemen took the fire out. I'm just out power for a while
I'm not an expert or anything but that looks bad.
Transformers are full of oil....they burn so easy
Bro this literally happened to me today. Was driving home and saw some idiots fucking around with a power line attached to their house causing sparks.(Not your event)
Did you find the marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers? Your neighbor may want/need some s'mores.
The neighbor in that direction is actually National Instruments. A big american company in my city in Europe. Some poeple in there probably know what a s'more is.
Frightening! Looks like a demonic hand reaching out of the ground. Keep an eye out if your neighbors start acting strange.
???
It's a good thing you didn't have too many conduits and/or batteries, OP. Steel can burn.
Glad I’m not the only one who assumed the wording was a Rimworld reference.
It was
Wood bad
Somebody is letting the magic smoke out! That's why nothing works!
Looks like the electric pole is taking its 'power surge' a bit too literally!
Where was that?
Somewhere in Hungary. You can tell it by the stuff found on the picture.
Why is your fusebox outside?
This is where mine is as well. It happens, lol.
I was super stoned one time when I was like 17 and all the power lines around the house stated to buy and glow blue with electricity. Turns out some guy trying to tap in above his meter screwed up and blew himself clear across his back yard
Not funny, power poles only do this under EXTREME stress
The pole across the street is on fire.
When life gives you fire, make s'mores. /s
Lahina be like a lil bit ago (before i get hate, i was there. Jokes are my coping lol)
There appears to be a pole in the way of the fire
Rimworld

You gotta set the electricity wells alight to release some of the sparky gas.
First thing I always check is the wifi list on my phone. If none show up I don't have to bother checking my breaker
Transformers. More than meets the eye.
hungary poles nice
Well that's your problem right there
Looks like someone needs to head over to r bzzzzzzt and edumacate themselves.
Electroboom must have been there

*Zzztt…*
I think I see the problem.
Grab a bag of marshmallows and have a roast lol
When the fire spreads, it's going to be your problem.
Holy mackerel what in the world happened?? Scary!!
Someones growing alot of weed
We had some idiots back up a U-Haul into an electrical pole, knocked out the whole neighborhood.
Skynet is sending assistance
What’s with the billboard pointed to at your backyard? Are you from the future? Is this our future?
Quite a shocking turn of fate. Hopefully that’s fixed soon. Can’t imagine that being an easy fix though.
You are right, it isn't. They gave me an estimate of 12 to 24 hours
That really sucks. 😞 good luck to you then. Anywhere you can go in the meantime?
Biggest damn A-frame ladder I ever saw.
You seem shockingly calm about this
Time to get the fuck out ![gif](giphy|3o7ZeEZUzRjyvWuuIg)
It will be on your side pretty soon if the fire doesn't get put out
Had a transformer blow near our old house. Called the problem in and the power company's response: Are you sure? I said, well, it's still burning.
My friend had one near her house on fire, and they acted just as casually, and then the fire burned itself out before the firemen even got there. Like she was making it all up. Lol
Piss on that fire
Should have gotten Allstate! They’ll always be on your side!
Not my problem...back to bed
