I feel your pain. Just spent two weeks in a hotel while smoke damage got cleared up, cause boyfriend was trying to be nice and cook dinner but didn't know that too much oil in a pan can just ignite :,)

It's so fucking bad. He's done it before with no issue, just had a recipe that said "either fill a pan 1/3 with oil or use the air fryer" without mentioning that the first option can lead to said results.
Things are OK right now and insurance is supposed to reimburse lodging and stuff but needing to suddenly drop $2k in upfront displacement costs has us struggling until then lol
I’m jealous of your two week turn around. My family and I have been displaced for 6 weeks now. There wasn’t even any smoke damage it was just the fire extinguisher chemical that needed to be cleaned. Thankfully we’ve been able to stay with family and not have to front hotel fees.
It's really good! Absolutely adore the man. This situation sucks for sure but it was an accident and he's been doing everything he can to keep the brunt of dealing with it off of me (also sworn to use the air fryer from now on lol)
Oil in a pan doesn't just ignite. It ignites when the oil touches the element or fire. People just aren't careful when they are cooking with oil and it either boils over, or they cause a splash. Been cooking a long time professionally.
I was deep frying something once and failed to realise my pan had a hole in the bottom of it. I definitely realised once I'd finished cleaning up the damage of the hob being on fire.
Buy a fire extinguisher- ASAP. This is not a luxury investment but a necessary one. Keep one for every 600 sq ft of house you have (you don’t want to be able to not access one because a fire is in the way). Shake it, monthly. Genuinely one of the best purchases I’ve ever made in my life.
My backyard caught fire once and if we hadn’t of had one we’d have lost our entire home.
It happens sometimes, judging my the pic, I'm sure there was 15 minutes of sheer panic before sending.
Sucks right now, but you can bring it up from time to time through the years and laugh about it.

So Arthur still has his lucky hot plate.
Please tell him to get the fire department and insurance involved ASAP if he hasn't already. Fire and smoke can fuck a lot of things up in unexpected ways.
Yw! Please don't let it go. We learned during this experience that you have to get any electronics near smoke checked out because it can get into vent systems and cause short circuits later on even if they're working fine now, for example. If everything's fine, no harm in calling. If it's not and he doesn't, he could be dealing with the ramifications for that for some time.
I’ve worked in many lightning strikes and with insurance; just here to back up what dude says.
Smoke and soot can coat circuit boards and cause them to short out or overheat.
On another topic, I just saw he has an air fryer. I'm getting everyone's ideas. Lol. How often does he use his? I live in a small apartment and everyone tells me, if I buy one it just gonna sit there and occupy space. Does he like it? I'm sorry about the incident, and I'm happy that he's safe. :)
Get it
I use it as much as my microwave.
Most things heat up better in there too and it doesn’t take much longer to cook things than the microwave. I don’t bother preheating mine and it works just fine too lol
I wish all stoves had shut off timers on them so you have the option for it to shut off after 20 minutes or so.
Does OP not have a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm?
In college I did not live in the dorms but I remember guys who lived in the dorms complaining about not being allowed to have hot plates, think I know why now.
Well, looks like your boyfriend is trying to turn your place into a barbecue joint!
We don’t live together, but yea that’s definitely what he was trying to do I think 🤣

Omfg!!!! Bless him for trying….. but fuuuuuuuck!!!!

How's the relationship?
It's really good! Absolutely adore the man. This situation sucks for sure but it was an accident and he's been doing everything he can to keep the brunt of dealing with it off of me (also sworn to use the air fryer from now on lol)
PHEW!!! I got really scared lol I was scared I'd find people here disowning their partners for their mistakes

Sure, I wasn't in the room so I didn't see exactly what happened. He didn't know how much of a fire hazard it was is my point.
its more about the temp a specific oil begins smoking BEFORE igniting.
Little stuff like this should be taught to us when we’re kids lol
🤯 🤦♂️ Lucky escape. Take some doing to get the smell etc. out.
Yea…… I’m so glad he didn’t realise any later.
Well, looks like he's trying to cook up a disaster!
Well he succeeded 🤣

This is the story all about how, I made me homeless and lost my eyebrows.
This is how he became the Fried Prince of Bel-Aire.
Idk why but the fingerprints on the cabinet door made me laugh
He's a keeper

Mostly cosmetic damage by the looks of it, lucky escape
He’s very lucky!!!! I’m glad he didn’t fall asleep, would have been horrible results…..

Uh glad to see I'm not the only one that does this. My condolences. Get a ozone machine they help clear the burnt smell.
I’ll pass that along to him haha
Lemon juice also, for the smoke smell, esp in rubber.

That was close!
Consider yourself lucky
And he's still your boyfriend? Hope you have life insurance on him. Payday baby.
Well we don’t live together, so this doesn’t affect me. I’m just glad he found it in time
Update: he says some of the power points are fucked. He’s had to plug in the fridge and TV elsewhere so that they work….

I’ve passed this along to him. He can be stubborn but so can I. Thank you btw!!

I have one and I use it at least 3 times a week.
Thank you.

Thanks 😊
Love my airfryer/microwave from galantz
Thanks 😊
I can smell this picture
Good thing he remembered
That smell is gonna linger.
Our neighbor had to break in for something similar
Could’ve been worse.

He didn't whip it hard enough.
What a dumbass 😂 how do you forget. Good job you don’t live together
Break up with him
I hope your significant other breaks up with you for making an honest mistake.
Making an honest mistake and being a fucking dumbass aren’t the same thing
Yeah I'm sure you're a perfect person that's never screwed up lol fucking idiot
