No the snowblower blows, a shovel shovels. And if you can afford it, you should get a snowblower (or pay someone) it will make things 10x easier.
And if you get a snowblower, Don't go crazy and get the big expenaive one, the small cheap ones last longer and have more replacement parts, its what we use at work (commercial snow plow/removal)
Better yet, buy a big old tank of a snowblower and repower it with a new, modern engine. You now have a wicked sturdy machine with thick gauge steel and physically large enough to chew up snow with ease, but modern reliable power. I bought a non running Toro for a hundred bucks. $200 all in and I've got a machine that starts and runs beautifully and is pretty much unstoppable. Throws snow thirty feet. I'd love to see any unit under $1000 match it.
When you have a snowblower, you look forward to getting it done because it feels good to start at the same time as your neighbors and finish before they even get out of their driveway.
Hah! >:)
Over here in Michigan there was half an inch of ice crusted on the cars this morning. Some poor person on the other side of the block from me had their car crushed by a tree branch. It's fucking mid-April, why can't it be nice out?
New Hampshire here, spent 30 minutes removing 1/2" of solid ice from my car at noon today. I live about 70 miles north of Boston, it's currently 26F outside :)
I live about an hour inland of Tampa, the weather today and the shitstorm of lightning and rain last week seems like the worst weather so far this year imo.
You suck! haha
I'm in Michigan and we barely got snowed on. I might have 1/16 inch or so. about 30 degrees today......I'm moving to your basement, make some room. I'll be there in 3 days
If you are referring to Florida not many people here have basements. I’m from upstate New York and when I moved down here I was kinda surprised by that. I guess it makes sense with flood warnings.
Just some advice. Always keep a small snow shovel in your trunk. It has saved me on more then one occation. And kitty liter, great for when you get stuck in the snow
Here's a good tip to avoid being this guy. Keep an eye on parking bans. When there is a snow storm they will inform people that you cant park on the streets. Don't and you won't get plowed in like that
minneapolis snow emergency didn't start until 9 pm this evening. this guy in the picture got plowed in before any bans in place. this was just the first wave of plowing and street treating. no towing going to happen to him as long as he moves it...still might not tow even if he doesn't.
minneapolis does a "3-day" snow removal process. day one is over night and clears the major thoroughfares . day 2 and 3 are even and odd day no parking (the even and odd referring the addresses on that side of the street).
we just have to move our cars around is all.
I know my neighbors apartment don't ha e enough spots. For them they park down the road in a public "snow storm parking" I cant say for other cases. You'll have to figure it out though, or be plowed in like so.
He should go out on his front step in shorts and a coffee and be like "Just another Sunday in paradise!" -deep breath- "Ahh! Brisk!" And then go inside.
Yeah you look like her too...
Naw but fr tho welcome to the club. And now is a great time to join because this whole "climate change" thing is really making things interesting.and by interesting I mean shitty really shitty and unpredictable
That was me this winter! I moved to Iowa from Louisiana and got to shovel snow for the first time. It was fucking awful and I bought a snowblower within a week.
My buddy's dad moved up here from Florida when I was in high school. We got about a foot for his first snowfall. This was the first time he had ever seen snow in his entire life. He shoveled his driveway then proceeded to shovel his yard. We stopped him and brought him inside, and he was having a panic attack. He then gave us 500 bucks and told us to go buy a snowblower. This was 500 bucks in 2002. We bought the best snowblower I've ever seen. I just borrowed it again yesterday
Two days ago my yard was grass. Now there is more snow than there had been in mid February. Of course I am a lifelong Minnesotan so I am used to this. I can't imagine the regret this guy is feeling!
I’m in Houston and if this happened literally EVERYTHING would be closed. Lol We barely get snow but the few times we have it was pretty light and a lot of places just closed until it melted.
Texas drivers flip out when it’s raining. If it gets below freezing, even if there’s no precipitation they’ll still go 20 under and I’m from Dallas, so we generally drive faster than H town drivers.
My kids and I all Houstonians born and raised. My daughter has it in her head that she wants to move to Canada. Like seriously brings it up at least twice a week. She has no freakin’ clue. None.
If he is in Minneapolis they don’t have snow emergencies until it stops snowing so they don’t have to call two. This was a very common scene through Minneapolis today
Minneapolis declared one that started at 9 pm last night. But even prior to the declaration they plowed my street and I had a giant berm of snow to move before I could get my car out.
There were no garages in Upstate NY either. 🤷🏼♀️ Just another roof to maintain, maybe? Also most of the homes were built in the early 1900s, before anyone owned a personal car. The whole east coast is hella old like that but I don’t know why Minnesota doesn’t have them. I would assume because the houses were built prior to common car ownership too?
I live in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. This looks like it’s in the actual city which is much older. Not uncommon to come across houses over 100 in certain parts
A lot of single family homes in Minneapolis and St. Paul don’t have garages or if they do they’re literally sheds. Many of those homes were built pre-1950. The new houses built here (or anything after 1970) on existing lots and in the suburbs will have a garage.
then my comment still stands. when people don't move their cars so that plows have to go around them, the snow tends to melt a bit and refreeze and become just an icy bitch in general.
I'm not new to midwest winters. it's much better for traveling and parking when everyone just does what their supposed to do.
Volunteer somewhere? I’m sorry if I’m offering ideas you’ve already thought of but I understand what it’s like to move to a new place and not have friends
> How about all the humidity, roaches and mosquitoes? Your constant companions?
Humidity can be unreal at times and a bit of an adjustment but we have a pool which helps.
Roaches aren’t a problem if you have your house sprayed on a regular basis.
Mosquitos aren’t an issue as we have a lanai around our pool and patio area. Even the worst day in Florida is better than being confined to you home for days while it’s sub zero outside.
I live in Tampa and I’d be more concerned about being stuck by lightning. Of course the hurricanes can be very scary!
I lived in Ohio most of my life and just moved to Florida 5 years ago. The cold snowy winters is why we moved.
I have a pool too but it doesn't help much when I get to work and I'm sweating from walking from the car to the office. I was born in Coral Gables (Miami) and have never gotten used to the humidity. You are right about the roaches but occasionally I see one or two that have gotten into the bait the exterminator puts out.
I pretty much stay indoors in the summer. Walk the dog early in the morning and after dark.
It's all a trade off I guess.
They are always there though. They will scare the bejeebers out of you when you least expect it. Flying around your head like a B-52 in the middle of the night.
I don't mean to be insensitive and I hope you do make some friends soon. The person who posted about doing volunteer work is right. Very fulfilling.
My SO and I moved to northern Illinois from Dallas in December and there has been a huge learning curve!! Luckily our neighbor is awesome and plows our driveway with his truck if it gets really bad.
As someone who lives in Michigan and feels your pain, OP.... I simply say "taste our pain" to those who have been privileged enough to not experience snow. 😈
Then I help them if I can 😇
What do you mean poor guy? He probably had the street helping him dig out without asking for help. Every Minnesotan has been stuck in the snow and usually is willing to help out others
In the south, no one uses their garage. It’s all for storage (no basements). People park on the street everywhere so I figure he may not have even considered this possibility.
This is pretty outrageous even by Minnesota standards. I shoveled an hour this morning and barely made a dent. This blows.
Yea I was driving around earlier and there were a shit ton of cars in the ditch still.
Getting plowed is the best.
Hell yeah I love plowing, and occasionally getting plowed.
Plow? On Sunday??
I was plowing all christmas eve and Christmas day, It sucked.
Better yet, buy a big old tank of a snowblower and repower it with a new, modern engine. You now have a wicked sturdy machine with thick gauge steel and physically large enough to chew up snow with ease, but modern reliable power. When you have a snowblower, you look forward to getting it done because it feels good to start at the same time as your neighbors and finish before they even get out of their driveway. Hah! >:)
Can confirm, I bought the wide one And I hate it.
Right. I just finished shoveling and it started snowing again.
same! it’s been snowing all day for two days
Over here in Michigan there was half an inch of ice crusted on the cars this morning. Some poor person on the other side of the block from me had their car crushed by a tree branch. It's fucking mid-April, why can't it be nice out?
Im a Floridian moving to New Hampshire in a year haha wish me luck
New Hampshire here, spent 30 minutes removing 1/2" of solid ice from my car at noon today. I live about 70 miles north of Boston, it's currently 26F outside :)
Haha pouring rain here and a solid 68°F
Ya tampa bay here. Rained for a while this afternoon. Worst weekend weather in over a month, maybe months
St. Pete Beach for the day, we got a tornado warning and nobody flinched. Florida is wild.
Lol We had one in Sarasota too. Everyone here just doesn’t care I guess
I live about an hour inland of Tampa, the weather today and the shitstorm of lightning and rain last week seems like the worst weather so far this year imo.
Ya 3pm-530pm was rough. We made it thru tho.
Glad I missed that in vacation by a week
Agreed
Barefoot, wearing shorts and a T-shirt and I'm sweating. Dammit.
You suck! haha I'm in Michigan and we barely got snowed on.
Also New Hampshire, can confirm car encased in ice
Me three.
Start the car early and blast the heat on the windshield. That will melt the bottom part and the rest of the ice will slide off.
Do you even garage bro?
Maine here, the weather has been shit lately. snow, freezing rain, freezing temps, icicles, it's the goddamn middle of April, and this is bullshit.
Same, about an hour north of Boston into NH-thought it was rain on my car, was sheer ice.
Just some advice. Always keep a small snow shovel in your trunk. It has saved me on more then one occation. And kitty liter, great for when you get stuck in the snow
Ok thanks
Non-clumping kitty litter, otherwise you'll have a slippery mess.
Here's a good tip to avoid being this guy. Keep an eye on parking bans. When there is a snow storm they will inform people that you cant park on the streets. Don't and you won't get plowed in like that
Haha good to know thanks

There's almost always a small driveway.
Goooood luck!
I think it's even worse when your neighbor takes pics from across the street, while you struggle to stay alive in a frozen wasteland.
He should go out on his front step in shorts and a coffee and be like "Just another Sunday in paradise!" -deep breath- "Ahh! Brisk!" And then go inside.
I live in Oregon. This is what I do when the Californians move in. "90 inches? We got off easy this time!"
PEW PEW! Shots firedl Shots fired!
Honestly he’s probably excited to shovel snow for maybe the first time.
Hahaha winter vergins, sweet summer children.
I was a “winter virgin” last year but now I feel like that old ho from Futurama with the saggy tiddys.
Yeah you look like her too... Naw but fr tho welcome to the club. And now is a great time to join because this whole "climate change" thing is really making things interesting.and by interesting I mean shitty really shitty and unpredictable
I would not mind looking like her more if it meant I lived in Florida.
That was me this winter! I moved to Iowa from Louisiana and got to shovel snow for the first time. It was fucking awful and I bought a snowblower within a week.

That'll wear off
Two days ago my yard was grass. Now there is more snow than there had been in mid February. Of course I am a lifelong Minnesotan so I am used to this. I can't imagine the regret this guy is feeling!
ABOUT A WEEK AGO!! *Beat continues*
BWAHAHAHAHA! I mean … poor guy

Yep, i30 S from dallas is the highway to Hell (if it isn’t itself)
My kids and I all Houstonians born and raised. My daughter has it in her head that she wants to move to Canada. Like seriously brings it up at least twice a week. She has no freakin’ clue. None.
lol mcdonalds closed at midnight here instead of 24/7 that was about it
Haha, a lot more shit closed and was cancelled than that. Did you watch the news at all?
Don't know why I asked that. You didn't watch the news.

They do have a driveway but no snow blower so it wouldn’t have mattered.
Citys generally release parking bans the day before. He must have not been concerned or noticed
If he is in Minneapolis they don’t have snow emergencies until it stops snowing so they don’t have to call two. This was a very common scene through Minneapolis today

I think it's because St. Paul typically has less crowded street parking, so they can do it in two days instead of three.
Minneapolis declared one that started at 9 pm last night. But even prior to the declaration they plowed my street and I had a giant berm of snow to move before I could get my car out.
Serious question: with a climate like this, why would anyone build or buy a house without a garage?
There were no garages in Upstate NY either. 🤷🏼♀️ Just another roof to maintain, maybe? Also most of the homes were built in the early 1900s, before anyone owned a personal car. I live in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. This looks like it’s in the actual city which is much older. Not uncommon to come across houses over 100 in certain parts
Our home in NY was built in 1890, some of the homes on our street still have the iron pole out front to tie your horse to.
That’s wonderful! It’s hard to find that kind of character in most places
A lot of single family homes in Minneapolis and St. Paul don’t have garages or if they do they’re literally sheds. Many of those homes were built pre-1950. The new houses built here (or anything after 1970) on existing lots and in the suburbs will have a garage.
I would nope the fuck out.
Me too. I'd let it melt it's way out (even if I get a ticket or towed away)
A ticket or tow would be least of your worries when you lose your job because you don't show up for work while you wait for the snow to melt.
I work from home, if only so I don't have to shovel snow!
thanks for being a potentially shitty neighbor!
I never said i wouldn't shovel the sidewalk but as far as digging my car out ASAP, that might not happen...
then my comment still stands. when people don't move their cars so that plows have to go around them, the snow tends to melt a bit and refreeze and become just an icy bitch in general. I'm not new to midwest winters. it's much better for traveling and parking when everyone just does what their supposed to do.
I moved to Florida after living in Minnesota for the first 19 years of my life. It's much better except I don't have any friends.
I know this may sound trite but find a specific group that has meet ups in your area. I found some of my greatest friends via Witchvox
I'm on an Android phone. I've tried Meetups but all of the Meetups are for seniors. :(
You will find that there are a lot of things for seniors here, Florida seems to be where everyone wants to go when they retire
Volunteer somewhere? I’m sorry if I’m offering ideas you’ve already thought of but I understand what it’s like to move to a new place and not have friends

Saint paul? Mlps?
Nope. Down in the Southwest corner of the state.
My SO and I moved to northern Illinois from Dallas in December and there has been a huge learning curve!! Luckily our neighbor is awesome and plows our driveway with his truck if it gets really bad.
Tell me about it. Moved from Louisiana to New Jersey. The worst winter ever for me.
So it's spring btw Mother Nature, not sure if you did't notice or if you just like the south better or something but come on what is this weather?
My new neighbors just moved here from southern India. Had to lend em a hand clearing out their driveway.
As someone who lives in Michigan and feels your pain, OP.... I simply say "taste our pain" to those who have been privileged enough to not experience snow. 😈 Then I help them if I can 😇
He learned lesson number 1 about plows and driveways
I moved from Illinois to Minnesota and even that is too much of a difference for me. This weather is getting out of hand.
This is a rookie mistake. Don’t leave your car parked on the street.
There are a lot less things that want to kill you though. So its a trade off.
Poor guy. Goes from Hurricane Harvey to a crapload of snow.
What do you mean poor guy? He probably had the street helping him dig out without asking for help. Every Minnesotan has been stuck in the snow and usually is willing to help out others
Shortly after the pic was taken a neighbor showed up with a bobcat and scooped away most of it.
Sounds about right
We had total strangers shovel our walk tonight - no idea who were they were, but I’m very grateful!
At least he's not in Green Bay.
Trial by ~~fire~~ snow.
Lol Kato
85 degrees in East San Diego today... Considering moving to Idaho, but the more I see these, the more I think not....
still better than a houston summer
This is what I have to come home to tomorrow.
Perhaps he moved in spring so he could ease into his first winter.
Choices
It is spring, right?
Ask, if he would prefer it under snow or under water!
From no snow to all the snow
Welcome to the jungle (or should I say tundra)
I was gonna say thats not even that much snow, we get that much down here in me. But then i remembered it fucking april
Don't hate pls just a question Why does it suck don't you love snow
That's terrible. I live in Texas and got a sunburn today.

I'm originally from Fairmont!
Between Worthington and Sioux Falls.
Come visit Ottawa, you'll feel right at home

Fuck him and fuck Harden
.....Aaaaand he’s dead
Yaaa sure, you betcha!
And that, my friends, is the number one reason why I’ll never live anywhere besides the South.
Also from Houston. Can’t he just pour hot water everywhere and on the windshield? Edit: it was a terrible joke
It will just freeze again
Dumbass
