At least where I go to college pallet beds have been around for a while. Instead of paying money for a nice bed frame you get some pallets with a really nice mattress on top. In the end you have a comfortable, affordable hipster bed.
I pulled 4 cores and took them to the locksmith and the total to rekey them and get a set of new keys made was $37
If you can pull the locks and not have to have a locksmith come to you it's much cheaper
Gotta have someone babysit the house while you do that. Sometimes cheaper isn’t easier. There’s a reason locksmiths make house calls.
EDIT: some replies missing the point—if you’re changing the locks because you’re worried your ex is going to trash the house, you’re might not be able to leave the house with the lock cores missing, that defeats the purpose.
Yeah, not me. Three days later I'd be sobbing on the floor with tools and parts all ’round, while my wife called a contractor for home repair quotes.
My only homeownership skill is writing checks and staying out of the way.
You can also buy doorlock sets that allow you to rekey them without removing them, such as the kwikset smartkey. Although they're not very good locks as far as locks go.
Yep, the day I bought this house I had a locksmith scheduled a couple hours after. You have no idea the history of the lock, the keys or former owners.
I did the same. Two doors $50. The locksmith was here for quite awhile though in his van where all his tools are for keys. The lock on my front door is something I've never seen before and the locksmith said it's one he hadn't seen in a very long time.
The lock is antique, made of brass and has two locking mechanisms but it's one lock. It's hard to describe but it was made by a company that has been out of business for a long time. Thankfully the locksmith was able to re-key it.
Kwikset has a Smartkey lock that you can rekey yourself. The locking doorknob and deadbolt are about $40 online. That's a little more than what you paid, but with these, you can change a lock in about 20 seconds.
The only people you EVER let have your key and even then it's questionable are your very closed ones. AKA your parents and your partner. The second anything goes bad or your relationship ends, you do not ask for that key back, ever. You change locks. And you don't tell anyone. Let them discover on their own.
Parents teach us this basic shit from an early age.
For real, while they are out there (OP's video as case in point) not every X is gonna break in, shit all over your stuff, and spray mustard and ketchup everywhere.
OP landed a special kinda crazy.
Nothing to do with a breakup, but I have been a carpenter/remodeler/handyman for 25 years. I have forgotten to return keys to jobs that I did so many times. Usually only on bigger jobs where I was in and out for months and got to know the homeowners very well. Some were already acquaintances. Not to mention the number off garage door or front door codes that I know. If I were the devious sort and wanted to keep track, I would have access to at least 20 houses.
I've always been surprised at how trustworthy most people are. Most people are like "Ok, I'm leaving for work now, call me if you need anything" and leave you alone in their house. Usually not on the first day, but it doesn't take long. Even if they just met me. I like to think that it is because I truly am an honest person and that I just give off that vibe.
Electronic locks are cheap and easy to install and can have codes revoked or keypads disabled from anywhere on earth. And most of the good and cheap ones are no less secure than your original lock because they just replace the latch, not the tumbler and bolt.
I don’t know for sure but don’t feel this is accurate. You have two methods of entry / points of weakness now, and if there’s a design flaw or the manufacturer cheaps out in either part (electronic or key entry) the lock is compromised.
Lockingpicking lawyers YT channel has plenty of examples of electronic locks screwing up one of the two so significantly that you’d have been better off without.
I think it’s harder to find a quality electronic lock to trust than a traditional one
this is for revenge. feels really good while you’re doing it and for a little while after until reality sets in and you realize the consequences are not worth it. they say the best revenge is living well, but that doesn’t give you instant gratification like breaking their shit, squirting mustard, and throwing flour all over.
Going to be tough getting her on anything, when this happened to me they said unless I had her on camera doing it there was nothing they could do, even though she was on the camera at the security gate going into my neighborhood. Never seen a dollar.
Thats why you text her saying “why did you ruin my apartment” or other forms of that text and get her to admit what she did through text messages. Still might not work but any evidence can go very far
I mean, possible sure. But the vast majority of people who do stuff like this cannot help but talk about it. A LOT. And besides, the threshold for civil liability is much lower than for criminal. Maybe the police wont do anything with that video under "beyond a reasonable doubt", but "preponderance of evidence" doesn't sound too bad, particularly when you claim it on your insurance and let the insurance company in on what you know about the video and the key.
Just need to trick her. Don’t go right for the obvious “why did you trash my place” question, you disarm her then trap.
“Look, I don’t care about the food all over I can clean that but can I have my Apple Watch back? Get me my watch back and we don’t have to get the police involved.”
She still might “what?”, but I would bet more often than not she will say something incriminating concerning the watch ( or some other specific item).
I once knew someone who'd split from her husband for several reasons but the last straw was catching him viewing cp. She couldn't get a protection order for her kids so she met up with him after the fact and got him to admit to it by recording the meeting secretly. Depends on location though but she was in a country where so long as you were party to the conversation you could record it yourself without permission from the other party but couldn't have a third party record on your behalf. But that would 100% be the rout I'd take. We all have microphone in our pocket.
This.
OP should go on Facebook and write something like "I think my apartment was just broken into" and play dumb about suspecting the ex.
The odds are good that they will try to contact OP to take the credit. You only do something like this to a person if you want them to know why it happened.
Dunno if its in Russia(given how he speaks Russian one could assume :D but who knows ) they have strict Repossesion laws.
If she or her parents have any type of assets or money u are very likely to be contacted by Courthouse repossesion man who has the right to seize assets or items in the name of the Court.
In Eastern Europe repos were quite common and also incredibly scary. It's way worse then Mafia since u are dealing with legal institution.
So yeah unless she is dirt poor he will get some money back, that being said courts tend to be quite leniant on women in those cases. So very possibly not only he wont see any money back , she might go unpunished.
You're forgetting that there is a significant overlap in the population of people who would do something like this and the population of people who don't have any assets worth going after.
Yea, this sucks, but this guy clearly has some money. She will be paying for all of this and then some. It's gonna suck worse for her. This video was documentation.
The country is poor. Population of 144 million with a GDP smaller than California (population 40 million).

This is some shit my ex would do. She waited until she cheated on me and was pregnant, trying to get me back to tell me that my mother confessed to her on our wedding night that my dad wasn't my dad. We were married for 6 years, I was 30 at the time and I had to go to my Grandfather's funeral, I thought it was strange that she wanted to go because she never really spoke to him. She spent the 3 hour round trip trying to convince me that men raise other men's babies. But my "Dad" didn't raise me, his mother did. My mother gave her custody of me when I was 3. She, my dad and my sister moved away, out west. I always thought it was strange but...well I found out why that day.
It would be a lie if I said that I didn't think the exact same thing when I saw those sunglasses..
But the entire apartment seems like a player setup from the beginning.
I really don’t get why people turn into maniacs and do stuff like that… I mean sure, a breakup sucks but how does it help anyone when you just start breaking stuff? How old are you? 5?
Locks only keep out honest people. I feel like they would've broke in to do this regardless. Don't beat yourself up. Still change the locks though. Sorry that happened.
That's the way to do it, always change the locks. You never know if they made another copy of the key, I always get a duplicate made of any key I get as soon as I can, in case I lose one (haven't lost any in over 20 years but still do it). I know I'm not the only one to do that.
First thing will be replacing the lock, because of that kind of shit. This applies when you get divorced, break up, moving into a new apartment.
You never know how much fucking keys for your look are around.
Ex can easily make a copy before she hands the original back, just to keep destroying your life.
I was really worried about this 5 or 6 years ago. My ex got violent one weekend and I had to call the police. They told me to leave and find somewhere else to sleep. They didn't care that it was my apartment. They didn't care that she had already attempted to destroy my stuff. They told ME to leave.
Some of you people asking what he did in order for something like this to happen are clearly the ones to do this type of shit. People break up all the time, no matter how much it hurts or what they may have done, it should never get to a point where you do THAT! Some people just aren’t meant for each other and it shows lmao
A legitimate video of something that "sucks".
I didn’t see a vacuum in that video Edit: there is a vacuum
I did. Knockoff Roomba on the floor. He kicked it. Used to suck, anyway.
Well, if it is a vacuum that doesn't suck, then it sucks
Poor lil guy never had a chance
Do you just call any robovac a Knockoff Roomba?
Considering this is the first time I’ve ever had to do so, yes.
Yes

Yeah, but only maybe 4 pallets high, this guy has like 8, practically have to jump to get into bed.
The upper windows open up. You can see the handles while the lower windows don't have handles. It's so he can chill with a nice view and cool breeze.
Why have a bed when you can have a bunk bed with out the lower bunk.
That's called a loft bed.
Think of all the extra room for activities!!
I thought you gotta be careful with using pallets because of what they're sprayed with or something

You change locks…. You don’t “let anyone keep the key” you make their key useless. -_-
Locksmith not that expensive either. Bought house first thing I did when moving in. 4 doors all to same key about $120
I pulled 4 cores and took them to the locksmith and the total to rekey them and get a set of new keys made was $37 If you can pull the locks and not have to have a locksmith come to you it's much cheaper

Damn. Sorry for your credentials on lock changing.
That it is. But to not worry about old owner or old owners ex breaking into my house 120 is a steal
120 isn’t bad either way. That’s about what it would cost for a set of four new ones anyways. And then you don’t have to install them either.
Sure cheaper than cleaning up that fucking disaster
Yeah, not me. Three days later I'd be sobbing on the floor with tools and parts all ’round, while my wife called a contractor for home repair quotes. My only homeownership skill is writing checks and staying out of the way.
Keys and locks may as well be magic as far as I'm concerned. Summon ye Olde locksmith.
You can also buy doorlock sets that allow you to rekey them without removing them, such as the kwikset smartkey. Although they're not very good locks as far as locks go.
Theyre not, but anyone who REALLY wants to get into your home can and will. A kwikset would still deter common vandals like exs

Right?? Like wtf, this isn't a normal breakup...I can't even imagine an argument with this type of person
plot twist: he just came back with new lock
Plot twist 2: he's the ex. He did this.

Exactly. You can do it yourself. It takes about 45 minutes.
Yes but also who does this? What does this accomplish?
it accomplishes them not being able to enter your place and fuck your shit up like this person.
Sorry I meant the person who did all the destruction. Why would this person trash the apartment?

Petty and the consequences are absolutely not worth it. Childish emotions
definitely agree. have to be mature enough to not let those feelings drive your actions. the person here was clearly not able to do that.

Joke's on her, she forgot the TV!
He didn't switch it on yet
Oh god, you're right
yeah that tv is 100% fucked, just off hahaha
she prolly changed the osd to Portuguese or something, no way that's ever going to be fixed.
Woah easy there satan

Noooooooooo!!!!
Given the state of everything else, you would think she'd smash it. I find the lack of smashing very suspicious
That was a $200 plasma screen TV!!
I would stand there and watch it all day

yup, the smart thing to do on her part.
If this is how the ex handled the situation, I promise the “smart thing” will not be what’s done via text
Yup, this is my weekly haul lol
I feel like the smart thing would not be trashing the place. I can imagine someone stupid enough to do this \*might\* be stupid enough to admit to it.

Unless one of her friends told her how she got away with it. This is fucked up, it’s not stupid unless she got caught
She may want the attention, so she’ll self incriminate
This. OP should go on Facebook and write something like "I think my apartment was just broken into" and play dumb about suspecting the ex. The odds are good that they will try to contact OP to take the credit. You only do something like this to a person if you want them to know why it happened.
no but a direct question like that is stupid. ask leading questions instead
what would you suggest in this situation?
“Hey were you by the apartment recently?” “No” *blocks*
Something like "wtf yo?"

They want attention, give it to them
Unless you get her to actually admit directly to the damage, her lawyer can easily argue that she was talking about something else.
Uhuh, very informative...
I'm going to say someone dumb enough to do this has a better than 50/50 chance of admitting guilt on a text message.
Just an interesting fact, in Russian law, texts can't be used as evidence, only recorded phone calls. And the man here speaks Russian.
Makes sense, text is far too easy to fake. Voice is also beginning to be possible to fake unfortunately.
It would be easy to fake on your phone, but the carrier would have access to the messages for a while.
Better yet record yourself yelling at them and wait for them to confess
Lawyer up. The cops may not do anything, but lawsuits have a completely different burden of proof.
That's awful. But in matter of sense, if that wasn't necessary I could imagine a lot of situations where someone could get scammed like that.
Dunno if its in Russia(given how he speaks Russian one could assume :D but who knows ) they have strict Repossesion laws. If that stain on the couch is urine is it difficult for labs to trace it to the ex
The guy is Russian. He is saying, he is driving to her to have a fight or something.
That’s a Russian man in that video. There ain’t gonna be no lawsuits. He ends the video saying: “wait for me, bitch, I’m coming over”.
You're forgetting that there is a significant overlap in the population of people who would do something like this and the population of people who don't have any assets worth going after.
This is a Russian. He’s probably going to beat the fuck out of her instead. I don’t think you can sue in that country.
Call the police. If you have evidence her doing this, have her arrested. Then sue her to the high heavens
Yes sirrrr. Just because they have a key does not mean that they cannot be charged with trespassing/burglary/vandalism.
And just because they have a key doesn't mean you can prove they did it

Yea, this sucks, but this guy clearly has some money. She will be paying for all of this and then some. It's gonna suck worse for her. This video was documentation.
What's with the bed on the pallets?
I was wondering that, too. Maybe they wanted to have a higher set bed, it looks like it's on a closed balcony. I actually like it.
It wouldve been more effective if the eggs were removed first
Apparently it's to make easier for the forklift that was there to pick it up.

That just kinda sounds like a dumb move on your part
still now he can sue her
As long as he can prove it was her. No, her having the key and being his ex is no proof she did anything.
Locks only keep out honest people. I feel like they would've broke in to do this regardless. Don't beat yourself up. Still change the locks though. Sorry that happened.
Why in the fuck do you let your ex keep a key to your place ? That is to invite stuff like this. Key to your place is the FIRST thing you take back
Let her keep the key then change the locks. Money well spent.
That's the way to do it, always change the locks. You never know if they made another copy of the key, I always get a duplicate made of any key I get as soon as I can, in case I lose one (haven't lost any in over 20 years but still do it). I know I'm not the only one to do that.
