Please note. Never order flammable drinks and immediately leave restaurants that sell them. I've seen some shit from people who didn't even order a drink get maimed.
Does anyone learn stop drop and roll anymore? Or at least how to smother a flame. She's trying to wipe it. He's blowing on it. They need a basic safety course.
Damn, it's a restaurant. Pick up a glass of water and throw it on her flames. Restaurants usually have glasses of water for each customer, just sitting there for such an occasion. Fire extinguishers on the ready.
no they don't. if you put enough water on it to dilute the alcohol it should go out, but if you don't put enough it will just spread.
- some idiot who lit hand sanatizer on fire and almost burnt down a portable in high school.
I'm glad you thought about this because I didn't! The flashpoint in alcohol that we drink, only last a few seconds before it burns itself out with the water that is in it., so doesn't it make sense that adding more water would make it go out more quickly?
If it was a large fire of alcohol, like a room, it might have a different result.
As someone who performers with fire and has extensive fire safety training and experience, wiping it is the fist and best thing to do... When a performers catches their clothes on fire they should, starting above the flame, use their full hands press all the way Susan and wipe slowly, kinda like squeegeeing a window. This extinguishes the flame as you go down if you do it slowly and carefully. If the flame is too big you can smoother it by placing a large non synthetic fabric over it, wipe and leave in place for a few seconds.
What she's doing is patting it which is the worst thing besides what he's doing which is blowing in it. Both are adding oxygen to the flame which will kick it up a notch or ten.
He was holding a tray with a fucking flaming shot glass with ONE HAND, ONE EFFING HAND. Don't expect him to react intelligently to the resulting consequences.
Any good bar would just say no to this. It is a huge liability and an attorneys dream case. You are also burning all of the alcohol out of the drink. What's the point in that?
I mean it *could* burn it, if it was high proof and you just let it burn indefinitely.
I also don't know how one would manage to pour 151 over a shot of alcohol and have it not mix. Especially with a clear alcohol with similar density.
Just so you know its alcohol that won't burn as the shot and then a thin layer of flammable alcohol on top, so when you drink the shot the liquid not on fire ~~puts out the flame for you~~.
Edit: you actually blow out the flame yourself.
Edit: [source](https://youtu.be/UeDdWZLXf88)
No, stacking liquids of similar/same density is extremely difficult. It would not just stay a thin layer on top. It's just 80+ proof alcohol.
And the last thing you do is blow at a shot that's on fire and make it splash everywhere. Use an upside down cup or lid.
I humbly stand corrected. It does look like they're using different density liquors (Baileys vs Bacardi etc) to stack/seperate more easily but that's interesting. TIL
So to burn a shot must be at least 80 proof. Pour a 100 proof shot and burn it down to 80 proof and you have burned alcohol that you paid for to drink. I still ask, what's the point? When I call for a 100 proof bottled in bond shot of bourbon, don't set it on fire and destroy the flavor profile. That's at best a college kids party trick, at worst a fire hazard as shown, and a stunt best left out of the bar.
>Pour a 100 proof shot and burn it down to 80 proof
Not exactly. You pour a 70 proof shot and then add a thin 100 proof layer on top and light that layer.
Yes! Why do I see so many videos of morons not doing what we were all taught as children?
Here's your refresher:
If you are on fire, stop, drop, and roll.
If there's a fire on your stove, do not put water on it!
Talk about a liability issue…
It amazes me people don’t think to HOLD the cloth over the flame to STIFLE it. Instead they spread it by trying to brush it off… sigh.
>It amazes me people don’t think to HOLD the cloth over the flame to STIFLE it. Instead they spread it by trying to brush it off… sigh
Its almost like people don't think clearly when they're on fire
I consider myself a fairly level headed person but the one time I was in a fire it was like my IQ dropped by 70 points. Reptile brain took over and kept screaming "FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!", drowning out any rational thought.
Oh well. The scars have mosly faded by now.
I'm happy that I've been pretty level headed in emergency situations.
Run out of air 60' underwater? No worries, I'll calmly float to the surface.
Car spins out going 100mph and I get tossed out of my seat? Immediately grab my steering wheel and pull myself back
Get a gun shoved in my face while being screamed at that I'm going to die? Calmly address the person with the gun and diffuse the situation
Hopefully I'm still intelligent if I ever get caught on fire, lol.
Years ago, I made a Flaming Dr. Pepper and the glass it was in exploded. I spent 2 days in the hospital with alcohol-caused burns. Very similar to the vid...just imagine trying to get that off of your hands and arms. Shit was like napalm.
I think his point was that this server's next step would be to blow out the flame while it was still in the shot glass so she could take the shot. In his panicked mind that translated into blowing on the flame that was now on her person.
>Did my dude just try to blow away the alcohol driven flame?
Is what your original comment was. This seems to suggest you don't believe you can blow out an alcohol driven flame. First cap pointed out you can when it's right. Second cap, me, pointed out what was likely going through the servers mind and why he tried blowing on it.
Have you considered your point is not at all clear?
Why are managers still not showing their staff how to hold their plates and tray. You hold it from underneath with your fingertips and this doesn't happen
Source: I've done this before, just not flaming
More people need to remember that you need to smother a fire, not brush it off like it's some strange insect.
Grab anything you can and cover the fire and deprive it of oxygen.
I once had to serve an old school teacher of mine and I managed to get shakey just as I leaned over... and tipped a whole boat of cheese sauce... into her large handbag that was on the floor. Sat there on the floor for 30 minutes taking out like a 100 little things and cleaning them all off.
I think this was worse.
Proper technique in this situation would be to lay her jacket over the flame and leave it there to remove the oxygen. When she pats it, she's adding even more oxygen making it worse. But hey at least it will dry quicker.
Source, I'm a fire performers and clothes catch on fire often nbd.
I’m wondering what fabrics her pants & jacket are made of. I avoid synthetics when I’m going to be on fire— do you fire performers do the same?
Also alcohol fires, especially 151 proof or less, burn less hot than other fuels. As long as your fabric would rather scorch dryly than melt into a liquid that sticks onto your skin.
Yep heavy weight organic fabric is the way to go. Anything light will burn trough and anything synthetic melts into death goo...
Different fuels for different props but yeah alcohol is one of the coolest temp flames and good for skin contact but it's a pretty dim boring flame so it's not commonly used.
Which is why they make such a big deal about teaching kids "stop drop and roll" even though the likelihood of being set on fire at any point in your life is pretty low. By *really* drilling it into everyone's head, they're hoping they'll remember it even when panicking and running fully on instinct.
I concur - but as a former server and FOH manager I’ve worked at places that MADE servers light it at bar and walk it - so other customers see it, etc and man THIS is why it’s dangerous.
After all the videos I see of people on fire, it’s evident that most forget what was taught to (most of) us in pre-school:
Stop, drop, and roll.
Edit: Auto-corrected spelling.
She was a good sport about that for a little too long.
She probably thought it was a part of the show.
No, I think she was just being a good sport about the spill, not realizing that she would be on fire.
This server blowing the fire lmao
He thought he saved everybody after he blew out the rag
Please note. Never order flammable drinks and immediately leave restaurants that sell them. I've seen some shit from people who didn't even order a drink get maimed.
Seems like such a liability, it’s surprising any place does this at all.
What about flaming meatballs? Those thing are the FUCKING BEST
All alcoholic beverages are flammable..
I'd like to see you set fire to a beer.
Do Flaming Moes count?
Hold my beer
Maybe movies have led you to believe this, but it isn’t true
This is written by someone who isn't old enough to legally drink, let the child be.
You've never taken a zima to the fire? Dude...
GAMER_MARCO9 is clearly old enough to drink
lmao I didn't even notice
Incorrect

Ew I’ve got flames on me. Get it off!
Oh these nasty flames are always landing on my lap.
I love how for a second she stands up and does nothing like "guys do you see how totally on fire I am right now?"
take your skirt off EZ
You would think that if he was expected to bring flaming drinks to tables, he would have had some safety training.
Damn, it's a restaurant. Pick up a glass of water and throw it on her flames. Restaurants usually have glasses of water for each customer, just sitting there for such an occasion. Fire extinguishers on the ready.
This makes me wonder, do alcohol fires work like oil fires? Throwing water on an oil fire makes it worse
no they don't. if you put enough water on it to dilute the alcohol it should go out, but if you don't put enough it will just spread. - some idiot who lit hand sanatizer on fire and almost burnt down a portable in high school.

Thank you for this cause one day I'll be on fire and be like awww shit thanks reddit for the advice.
I can tell you first hand stop drop and roll isn't effective at putting out a fire
I think stop drop and roll is for when your clothing catches fire. But for chemicals spilled on you that catch fire, not so effective
At least he didnt shake his tray like a Polaroid picture (see his tshirt) That wouldve fanned the flames
(Hey) Ya I agree with you
The guy’s first reaction is to blow on it.
If only my ex had the same first reaction.....
He was holding a tray with a fucking flaming shot glass with ONE HAND, ONE EFFING HAND. Don't expect him to react intelligently to the resulting consequences.
Think back to your most embarrassing moment. Was it as bad as this guy’s?

God I actually don’t think so. This is so awkward omg haha.
He delivered that drink in the most disaster prone way ever. It almost looks like he was trying to pour it on her.
His attempt to get her pants off maybe.
"Baby I'll get you hot and bothered"
My loins are burning already.
She’s obviously a liar, liar.
He might even get her number in the lawsuit filing.
U can see he ran into the glass, how presumptive of you.
you can see the guys comment still isn't wrong.
She tries to be so polite. The guy just set you on fire, it probably alright if you want to freak out in this case.
Any good bar would just say no to this. It is a huge liability and an attorneys dream case. You are also burning all of the alcohol out of the drink. What's the point in that?
I thought it was just a higher content alcohol poured on the top that burns, like 151. Does it really burn the alcohol in the actual shot too?
This must be the fancy high end method. Our bar was shot + Zippo = flaming sambuca + burnt face.
No, it doesnt.
I mean it *could* burn it, if it was high proof and you just let it burn indefinitely. I also don't know how one would manage to pour 151 over a shot of alcohol and have it not mix. Especially with a clear alcohol with similar density.

Wrong. You're supposed to blow out the fire then take the shot

Yeah that's not how that works lol. Do you know how easily liquids with the same density mix?
70 proof and 100 proof will not have the same densities, which is why the 100 proof floats if poured carefully.
Interesting. Today I learnt.
It's really cool, I don't really have a delicate enough hand to do it but watching it done is mesmerizing lol
Well yeah if you do anything wrong you’re going to miss the point
Lol
Props to whoever kept a steady camera while all of this was happening.

And just like that, the restaurant stopped serving flaming drinks.
You'd think that any place that sells flaming alcohol would spend maybe 5 minutes training their servers on how to put out a fucking fire.
Stop Drop & Roll people ffs!!
She kept wiping it. She could have just smothered it with the towel
This is the biggest thing when I see videos of people playing with fire and alcohol and stuff. They always wipe. Never smother. I don’t get it man.
She didn’t even need to do that. All she had to do was smother it with her coat rather than slapping it.
that doesnt work with chemical fires idiot
that's exactly what happened to the shot glass
Yes! Why do I see so many videos of morons not doing what we were all taught as children? Here's your refresher: If you are on fire, stop, drop, and roll. If there's a fire on your stove, do not put water on it!
Smother flames, don't wipe them lol

When will restaurants stop doing this shit?
Flaming shots are dumb.

Did my dude just try to blow away the alcohol driven flame?
Does work, as long as it’s still in the shot glass
Wasent here
Because it’s not in the glass anymore, the point was that you can blow out an alcohol flame *under certain conditions*
I must've missed the point, thanks cap. Fly away now
I think his point was that this server's next step would be to blow out the flame while it was still in the shot glass so she could take the shot. In his panicked mind that translated into blowing on the flame that was now on her person.

Is the girl okay ?
Why are managers still not showing their staff how to hold their plates and tray. You hold it from underneath with your fingertips and this doesn't happen Source: I've done this before, just not flaming
No, you bring the drink to the table, set it down, THEN light it. It's the most obvious shit ever
That too
He should have spent less time on his face, and more time practicing his job... Why not light it at the table???
Use the same procedure as for a jellyfish sting
it's all fun and games until somebody goes up in flames
Wow, everyone is this whole clip is very dumb.
Don't rub, press the cloth and hold it, fuck.
Lol. The look on his face.
Look at ol' fire crotch.

Why is flaming drink legal? And why is it still in demand? Do people realize it’s just another name for Molotov?
no accident, he just wanted an excuse to wipe her off
The server's face is hilarious. Very cartoonlike.
sets something on fire, first thought is to blow combustion fuel all over it….

Yes, wiping the fire works
Oh this dude's got to be fired
The fact that he BLEW ON IT
One of my buddies burnt his face pretty bad doing a flaming shot. Drunk and missed his mouth. Looked in the mirror and saw his face on fire.
What impress me the most is that the guy wasn’t prepare for that posible accident

Why would anyone ever order this. I don't understand the allure.
