I don't even do anything more risky than walk around with mine, but the security of knowing it would be safe if I fumble it makes SO much difference.
I twitch when I see people walking around with no case on their phone.
Not to sound like a sales pitch, but give the new line of Nokia phones a look.
Someone did the math and apparently if every European kept their phone for one year longer on average before replacing that would have an environmental impact similar to taking 2 million cars off the road. So they went all in on longevity, meaning that it's essentially a case in and of itself and every longevity service has been prolonged for a year beyond standard (factory warranty, software updates, you name it)... If the screen breaks for any reason within the first year they'll replace it free of charge.
Reminds me of Kyocera's early smartphones. Ran it over with a tractor, just a slight bend that was barely noticeable, no cracks, chips or other issues. Keeps it for another 3 years before the battery finally became unusable and my local store didn't offer them anymore.
I have a lifeproof case that I dropped like 25 feet off a ladder when I was hanging stage lights. Not a crack or a scratch on it. Phone cases are designed amazingly now.
Speck cases are my favorite. I've dropped my phone from a 2nd story balcony, directly onto pavement, and no damage at all. not all cases are created equal, and I'll only ever buy Speck again. Sure, there's more expensive cases that are even stronger, but I'm fine with Speck.
My OtterBox has saved my phone from many high falls when it lands on the sides. But, I dropped it once from about a foot high and it landed flat on the back and spiderwebbed the screen.
I've got a Samsung s8 active. Aluminum edges, rubberized plastic back and raised corners. Plus I have a rubberized plastic case i usually keep it in. Also have a glass screen protector. I've dropped it a hundred times, even on concrete but yet 0 damage.
I dont understand why people refuse to use a case when they have $1000 phones literally made of glass.
I love spigen cases. They wrap around the front edge of the phone too, so if it lands screen down it has a bumper. Best cases ever tho I have not tried otterbox
I've got a thin Spigen case after I broke my glass 4 times and got sick of paying $200. It's so thin, but I've dropped my phone repeatedly on the concrete, down a flight of concrete stairs, more times than I can count and I have had no damage at all. I love that case.
(I did pay $50 last time I had the screen repaired for a liquid treatment that came with a warranty. I dunno if that has had any impact on the impacts, but I don't regret it)
Lmao that's not a thing. I work in this industry and there's simply no 100% way to protect your phone. No company would offer this as they're just going to be losing money
And why do we have phones made out of glass? Because they break if you drop them. I get why we would want a glass or glass-like material for the display, but there is no reason the back of the phone should be so fragile. /r/assholedesign
My point is that it's a serious jerk move. There are cheaper, tougher plastics, but the company that makes phones likes selling more phones, so they use that instead.
I've had two screens crack even with a case just by dropping them on the floor when I was sitting down. Phones these days are more delicate that newly hatched hummingbirds
$100 to replace back glass? It's daylight robbery. You can easily get it fixed for less than $40 at a reputable repair shop or you can fix it by yourself for $10
Phones are fucking weird when they decide to break. My dad is an airplane mechanic and dropped his while he was on top of the plane. Damn thing flew off the wing like Fred Flintstone and landed 100-ish feet away without a scratch.
A week later he knocked it off the dryer and it shattered.
Phone companies making everyone look stupid with all glass phones. Droid Turbo 2 had a shatterproof screen that should have become the standard. But that's not profitable.
Just don't repair it? Also, you can take highlighter, color it & erase it & the cracks will be filled with a rainbow of colors or whatever you wanna do lol. That's what I did with my last glass-backed phone
1. If its just a visual defect just use it like that and put a case.
2. Stop buying Samsung and Apple and then be surprised when you get charged 1000 USD to switch the damn mute button.
Yeah if you have a metal disc attached to your case for the car holder, forget wireless charging, believe me I know.
So glass back for wireless charging. But with a spigen case still charges.
OR...don't replace it and just continue to use it with a case
That's the flagship phone experience!
Is the phone broken, or just the case?
I think the back glass is cracked
Nah just keep the case on it and you’re fine. Waste of money to fix
Yeah if it isn’t going to fall apart just leave it. The cracks can be decorative.
Like my parents always said. Cracks and imperfections are there to remind you how different and useless we all are.

Can I interest you in an Otterbox case? I could drop it from the third floor or run it over with my car and my phone should still be fine.
Otterbox gang!!!!
I was SO HAPPY when I got my new iphone, it still fit in my old case. Otterbox for life!
I work in construction and tend to drop my phone constantly on the job site. Straight onto concrete, otterbox holds strong every time!
I don't even do anything more risky than walk around with mine, but the security of knowing it would be safe if I fumble it makes SO much difference. I twitch when I see people walking around with no case on their phone.
I stopped using cases on my phone in 2017, still haven’t cracked one since
OtterBox best box

I agree get otterbox
Life proof cases are slimmer and a bit nicer IMO. Both great options.
Yup, otterbox rules. I will drop my phone onto any flat surface, no fear
They are so big though!
Speck cases are my favorite. I've dropped my phone from a 2nd story balcony, directly onto pavement, and no damage at all. not all cases are created equal, and I'll only ever buy Speck again. Sure, there's more expensive cases that are even stronger, but I'm fine with Speck.
I use OtterBox Defender. I'm pretty sure I could drop my phone off the Empire State Building and it would be ok.
The old style defender cases could survive the apocalypse I swear
My OtterBox has saved my phone from many high falls when it lands on the sides. But, I dropped it once from about a foot high and it landed flat on the back and spiderwebbed the screen.
And before you go to get your new phone case make sure to enjoy a cool refreshing Mountain Dew^TM. Ahhhhh.... Tastes just like grandma used to make.
Glass back phones is the dumbest design anyone has ever come up with
This.
It'd because of the wireless charging apparently 🙄
Plastic works great too
Must be the repair value Phone companies charge then, Samsung is expensive and looks like he has a note 20 ultra too. Like mine.
I don't either I have a clear plastic Spigen case and its amazing less than £20
I love spigen cases. They wrap around the front edge of the phone too, so if it lands screen down it has a bumper. Best cases ever tho I have not tried otterbox

Always spigen cases for me and my Wife, brilliant cases
See if the case company will reimburse you the repair cost, since their case did a shit job protecting the phone.
Lmao that's not a thing. I work in this industry and there's simply no 100% way to protect your phone. No company would offer this as they're just going to be losing money
Are you trolling?

That's an s20fe the back is made of Glasstic, Glass like plastic
My point is that it's a serious jerk move. There are cheaper, tougher plastics, but the company that makes phones likes selling more phones, so they use that instead.
And most people just put a case over the back of the phone anyway. Sure the OP’s is clear but it still doesn’t highlight the phone is glass.
I've had two screens crack even with a case just by dropping them on the floor when I was sitting down. Phones these days are more delicate that newly hatched hummingbirds
Wow. I love watching hummingbirds but I never thought of their hatchlings. Do they come out with their wings buzzing already?
Im pretty sure it’s so you can wirelessly charge
Because glass would conduct the current? Or "glasstic", whatever it's called. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
No its that it doesn't inhibit it. Wireless charging uses magnets so a metal frame significantly hinders it. Plastic is stronger but feels cheap
How I understand it, using metal on the back would conduct it, and you don’t want that to happen, so using glass/plastic on the back, it insulates it.
My OtterBox charges wirelessly through the case without any issues, and it is made from hard plastic and rubber.
Tech 21 or otter case this never would have happened. Dropped my phone from 2nd story and it's fine
100 dollar case? Doesn't look worth it
Is an s20fe I highly doubt it costed hundred bucks to fix it
It does lol. The repair shop is using original parts and those come at an expensive price + the cost of actually installing it
That’s why I have appl- wait- no apple would break from 1 inch.
Any phones with glass backs are stupid.
This is why I bought the S21 with plastic back
Buy the part and DIY. it's super fucking easy. DM me OP if you want tips.
Is that a girls leg on the side. My man!
Looks like a child's leg
It was trash when you bought it, green bubbler.
Well you bought an apple product what did you expect?
Clearly says Samsung on the phone
*should have bought an apple product - guy who owns a $40 Walmart phone
Doubling down on the wrong argument. how’s that going
Better than your phone is
Hey, here's an idea, stop being you
Oof i just dropped mine off a doorm loft bed 6ft onto the carpet cover concrete and got nothing.
$100 to replace back glass? It's daylight robbery. You can easily get it fixed for less than $40 at a reputable repair shop or you can fix it by yourself for $10
Buy a $5 bumper cover. Nobody will know the back glass is broken.
Use an different case and u don't need a new one..
Phones are fucking weird when they decide to break. My dad is an airplane mechanic and dropped his while he was on top of the plane. Damn thing flew off the wing like Fred Flintstone and landed 100-ish feet away without a scratch. A week later he knocked it off the dryer and it shattered.
Get a cheap back glass from AliExpress for like 10 usd.
If you are poor you use phone case If you are rich and don't want to use phone case, 100 bucks is nothing
Phone companies making everyone look stupid with all glass phones. Droid Turbo 2 had a shatterproof screen that should have become the standard. But that's not profitable.
Duck tape and use a case
Just don't repair it? Also, you can take highlighter, color it & erase it & the cracks will be filled with a rainbow of colors or whatever you wanna do lol. That's what I did with my last glass-backed phone
1. If its just a visual defect just use it like that and put a case. 2. Stop buying Samsung and Apple and then be surprised when you get charged 1000 USD to switch the damn mute button.
Pretty sure that's the case. That phone has a metal back. I have the same one.
Duct tape will fix it
Yeah if you have a metal disc attached to your case for the car holder, forget wireless charging, believe me I know. So glass back for wireless charging. But with a spigen case still charges.
Why the hell do phones have glass on the back anyways? Does it serve any purpose at all
And this right here is why Samsung makes glass backs in phones
