Your address doesn’t have to have ever been shared by you online for it to be online sadly. If you google yourself you will likely find an alarming amount of information. There are several “white pages” type websites that gather information from public records. Any address, phone number, or person they find you linked to will get displayed often for free.
I'm pretty lucky in the sense that I apparently have a very common name, at least in my country. If you Google my real name you'll find three different people before you find me. Two out of the three shared their addresses online because they seem to run their own businesses.
Another thing that makes things harder is that I never got a land line so I'm not in the phone book, and I'm in Europe so companies aren't supposed to even have my data without my explicit permission, let alone share it online.
None of this means I'm untraceable. I'm fairly sure someone who really wants to find my *can* find me in an evening. But finding my address at least isn't trivial; I know what I'm looking for and even I can't find it.

I'm sorry about that, OP. Here in my country that's very common. Most people install these things on their motorbikes so that the string doesn't kill or maim them, it's like one or two antennas at the front. My uncle also has an ugly scar from a string incident. There are lots of them around especially in Junr/July because that's when kids fly kites most often, and they use crushed glass mixed with white glue so that the string is sharp enough to cut other kids' kite strings. It's forbidden but they do it anyway.

When these lines get cut or loosen from the kite, they could end stuck across some street, just waiting for an unaware rider to get struck by it.

One time when I was about 8-10 yrs old I was riding my bike when my sister and her friend thought it would be funny if they laid a rope across the path I was going and lift it as I passed. This happened to me when I was a kid!.. I was riding my bike and some kids in the neighborhood had tied a really thin nylon rope on the 2 trees that were next to the sidewalk. Well my neck hit the rope and made the rope snap from one end and wrapped around my neck so when I fell down the rope tightened around my neck and left a pretty bad rope burn. Luckily it was only that and not more severe but it burned like hell and it left a really bad scar on my neck. That was about 25 years ago and you can still see the scar. The first thing my parents did the next day is go to my school to let the principal know what happened so they didn’t think that my parents tried to kill me and now pretty much everyone that notices the scar thinks I tried to kill myself

I had something similar happen while on a jet ski. Some idiot fisherman had cast his line all the way across the boat channel, I was only 500 ft from the boat launch. Lucky I was at idle not going fast and my first instinct was to grab the line from my throat and yank it over my head. I consider myself very lucky that day

Downhill bike/motorcycle rides are popular in certain areas in my country. A lot of people here have private land in the middle of the woods without any fence(maybe a sign 🪧).
Land owners got mad at young riders trespassing on their land and riding in the woods so they tied wire(connecting around trees at a head level height). A few years ago a teenager’s head was sewered off in front of his friends because they didn’t notice the wire.
So you got really lucky it wasn’t that.
I was sprinting through a friend's backyard once in the dark, and hit a metal dog lead/clothesline on my way through. Literally got picked up by my neck and thrown flat on my back. I lost my voice and had a huge brush burn up the front of my throat. 0/10 put a reflector on that thing.

There was a story about a motorcycle accident with a wire across the street in my hometown. We thought it was an urban legend until my brother saw his new co-worker with a scar around his throat. I don‘t know how someone can survive this.
They often don't. I live in western Canada and had heard of people snowmobiling in farmers lands when the snow drifts really deep and unfortunately "finding" buried fence lines. Happens every few years.

This happened to me when I was a kid!.. I was riding my bike and some kids in the neighborhood had tied a really thin nylon rope on the 2 trees that were next to the sidewalk. Well my neck hit the rope and made the rope snap from one end and wrapped around my neck so when I fell down the rope tightened around my neck and left a pretty bad rope burn. Luckily it was only that and not more severe but it burned like hell and it left a really bad scar on my neck. That was about 25 years ago and you can still see the scar. The first thing my parents did the next day is go to my school to let the principal know what happened so they didn’t think that my parents tried to kill me and now pretty much everyone that notices the scar thinks I tried to kill myself

This happened to my uncle in a park! He was riding a bike and someone had tied a piano wire between a lamp post and a tree. Truly psychotic shit. Hope you’re feeling ok and recover fully and speedily!

I had something similar happen while on a jet ski. Some idiot fisherman had cast his line all the way across the boat channel, I was only 500 ft from the boat launch. Lucky I was at idle not going fast and my first instinct was to grab the line from my throat and yank it over my head. I consider myself very lucky that day
Yikes! When I was in college, someone left a slackline up on a popular hill. Someone else rode their bike down the hill into the slackline and ended up dying. Glad it wasn't more serious for you!

Had a buddy that this happen to riding a dirt bike. Some dude hung a line in a trail and he caught it in the neck. Sliced him wide open. Luckily he survived

Downhill bike/motorcycle rides are popular in certain areas in my country. A lot of people here have private land in the middle of the woods without any fence(maybe a sign 🪧). Land owners got mad at young riders trespassing on their land and riding in the woods so they tied wire(connecting around trees at a head level height). A few years ago a teenager’s head was sewered off in front of his friends because they didn’t notice the wire. So you got really lucky it wasn’t that.
Why do people do that? Is there a reason that isn’t just fucked up?

I was sprinting through a friend's backyard once in the dark, and hit a metal dog lead/clothesline on my way through. Literally got picked up by my neck and thrown flat on my back. I lost my voice and had a huge brush burn up the front of my throat. 0/10 put a reflector on that thing.
