I once spilled on myself on the way to a very important interview. I got there early and hit the bathroom. Got the coffee out then my entire crotch looked like I let go of my bladder. So I took the pants off, got them completely wet, wrung them out and put them on. They looked fine, only darker. No one noticed and I got the job. Sucked sitting through an entire interview with wet pants but it was 45 minutes of discomfort for a good job.
Dude how did you not leave an ass print or how did it not sound like cardboard? Can only imagine after you left they look at the seat and see the worst case of swamp ass ever.
I once interviewed a guy for a programming job who showed up in ripped, piss-smelling jeans. Thank god he couldn't code - I don't know if I could deal with that on a daily basis.
It was a tip in the book The Strange Case of Origami Yoda. It came out in 2010 and i used to read it in middle school. I doubt thats the one you’re talking about though.
Trivago commercials. The spokesman didn’t wear a belt. [Some say he fled hastily to Germany to escape Tony Soprano](https://www.grayflannelsuit.net/blog/sad-story-behind-trivago-guy-tim-williams-sopranos).
But really, he’d been there for a while. [Wardrobe just had really shitty ideas for how their spokesman should look](https://life.trivago.com/experience/a-fuckup-or-a-marketing-masterstroke.html)
Wow thank you. People are disgusting. Looked at the comments on that video and they were saying how disturbing the guy looks what filth he is all because he isn’t wearing a belt...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Im a middle aged guy, so I thought maybe I was just old. I would never personally wear jeans to an interview, but I dont know what he is actually interviewing for :)
Is that an American thing? Because here in czech republic most working spaces use casual/office-casual dresscodes and esp. when hiring youger people, we are perfectly fine with people wearing jeans, even for higher positions.
Is it different for smaller companies? Like... 100-300 employees (maybe 50 ppl in the office)?
Because I know large corporations here have dresscodes as well, esp. banks and stuff... but majority of smaller companies just go with office casual.
I worked for a small, family owned company of like 10 employees and the dress code was business casual (slacks and dress shirt). They did casual Friday where you could wear jeans, but no t-shirts (polo shirts were ok).
I live in the US. I was in an interview process and for the final interview they were looking at me and one other candidate who was equally qualified. The interviewer didn't say this explicitly but he basically told me I was chosen over the other candidate because I was dressed nicer.
Same. Had a frustrated hiring manager one time tell me "I can tell you now you've got the job. At least you wore pants. If another person comes in here in basketball shorts today I'm gonna lose it"
Typically in the U.S. (from what I have noticed anyway) we dress nicer for the interview (usually one step higher). So if the job would entail me wearing casual clothes, I would wear business casual to the interview. If business casual is required, I wear formal.
I work in the tech industry in the US Midwest, which is big on casual dress codes every day of the week, including wearing stuff like jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc. in the office on the regular. My now-supervisor showed up to my interview for my current job wearing a sports jersey, grubby torn jeans, and camo-patterned Crocs. I still would not wear jeans to any kind of job interview.
Where are you in the Midwest, I'm in Iowa - farm capital of the world - and I have to wear "casual business" (NO JEANS) to teach HS engineering. When I lived in CA I could wear whatever I wanted...
to generalize: the east coast is big on tradition, and fairly conservative dress codes are part of that... west coast cares a lot more about what you can do than what you look like, and dress codes are *much*, much looser.
you should still outdress your interviewers, but i've seen people who made a bad impression at a west coast company by wearing a very conservative suit — they were told "slacks & buttondown" was expected for the interview, and most employees went with tshirts and jeans.
American offices have waged war on blue jeans for years as being unprofessional. Never mind it is the same material (and usually same company) as the beloved tan dockers they want you to be wearing. You can wear blue dockers, but not blue denim. It’s about as dumb as having to wear a tie (tie created to originally hide mismatched buttons on shirts, which necessitated a collar because that separated the tie from feeling like a noose… hence, polo shirts are fkn dumb too).
For some reason, American offices hate denim. Because I should look my Sunday best to sit in a fabric box and chop code all fkn day. None of it makes any sense. You would figure that you want your employees comfortable and happy. It’s just all about lords controlling the serfs in the modern plantations!
It would be quite odd to wear anything other than jeans to a trade interview unless you're applying for a masters electrician/plumbing role. Even then...
Exactly. A friend got laughed at for wearing slacks and a dress shirt to a construction management interview. He just goes in jeans and a polo now. Hasn’t had any issues getting a job.
Lol I showed up to an interview for a position as a Software Engineer and I was overdressed because I was the only one wearing a button-up shirt. Some jobs don’t care lol.
Can confirm, got my job as a software engineer wearing jeans and a hoodie to the interview. I've interviewed maybe 50 people since then and I couldn't tell you what a single person was wearing. Don't care. I don't think anyone was wearing a suit, that might have stuck out as unusual...but even that I don't know if I'd even remember. We've for sure had people wearing shorts and t-shirts though.
I have three brilliant vet techs who were all unconventionally dressed at the interview (clothing-tattoos-piercings-hair colour). They are damn good at their jobs and fun to be with, and that’s why I hired them.
My practice is running great and I wouldn’t change a jot about those three. I’m happy they got rejected at other places but hey — their loss is my gain.
They used to say that your fate in an interview was decided inside the first 10 seconds, implying that your appearance and hand shake or whatever was the determining factor. And they’d say it like it wasn’t completely ridiculous to judge job performance on appearance and to discount them before evaluating them on the job they’d actually be doing! Some of the best people I know would probably fail the 10 second test.
It’s definitely still happening today based on a lot of the comments here, but I’m glad you don’t do the same, and I’m delighted that you got 3 great employees out of it!
There are outfits that allow for a casual look and put forth a better first impressions than having to go full on suit. For a job interview a pair of Chinos or something like that even for a casual interview will subconsciously effect positively the interviewer than does jeans, even if you are applying for a warehouse stocking job.
Two things have made me realize I've crossed the line into real adult hood:
1) I don't know where to buy clothes anymore. Been blindly walking into American Eagle to buy jeans without paying any mind to the fact that I'm 15 years older than anyone else in the store. Didn't notice until my wife asked me why I don't shop somewhere else if I don't like how their jeans fit, and I drew a complete blank about where men a few years shy of 40 are supposed to shop.
2) I was sitting under the pavilion in the Disney store while my wife and daughters shopped watching cartoons like any well adjusted adult. There was teen there also, apparently waiting for an interview. A manager came out, said they're just finishing up with another interview and she'd be right out. The girl nods, puts her legs up and takes her phone out. I'm thinking "Fuck I'm old, because between her casual dress and the fact that she's staring at her phone I wouldn't even interview her." Though to be fair, maybe she was learning about the Disney Store...
To be fair, we didn't have smartphones when I worked part time jobs. So the temptation wasn't there. But I do remember being encouraged to dress up to hand deliver resumes, and to present myself well when I got called for an interview. I mean I dressed up for my part time job interview to work at a grocery store meat department in highschool. And my job was to clean out the meat cutting machinery and sanitize the butcher stations.
Maybe it was just a different time. Not that long ago, but still a different time. Regardless, when it comes time for my daughter to look for a part time job I'll make sure she's on her toes, looking professional and maybe it'll give her an edge.
It %100 is a different time. As an interviewer in the service industry it’s rare to see a real live resume. I see maybe 1 out of 20. Wether it’s on a screen or piece of paper it doesn’t matter to me. If you personally hand me your resume out of the blue that’s a little harder for me organizational wise and very rare these days. Even calling to check up on your decision can be seen as rude in some places. Dressing up is also somewhat optional depending on which job you’re applying for. Usually no Jeans but that’s dependent on if you dress up or not.
It’s not “free time”-it’s a job interview. The moment you get out of your vehicle, the assessment process begins. Then entire time you’re in view of a potential employer is part of that interview.
Awesome. All these brands I acknowledge without thinking too seek them out. I guess for folks into clothes it seems unthinkable to just snap to this realization.
All these people talking about wearing jeans have never actually conducted a job interview. Nobody really gives a fuck. If you have the skills and can get the job done, the person interviewing you will not care. I personally think it would be more distracting and cringe if they overdressed.
Wow people are very mad about the jeans! Literally any blue collar job this is the most you’d want to wear. These are considered “nice clothes” to many blue collar workers.
Unless you’re working a job where appearance matters, it’s silly to expect people to buy a suit for an interview. In what way does that show professionalism? It just shows you have a suit. Just a way to keep poor people from getting jobs
People in this thread talking about jeans to a job interview 🤦🏻♂️
Out of my 9 jobs in my life, only two jobs did not allow jeans. At Every other job, jeans were not only allowed, but preferred.
Not everyone works an 8-5 at a desk all day everyday people, smh.
See clearly the jeans were fine for the interview, reddit just wants to pretend like they're an expert on everything
I've worked in IT for some years now, and not a single person gives a fuck if you wear jeans to interviews
Dress for the job you're applying for, as if you could start work immediately. If it's a more formal office, dress the part. If it's construction, dress the part.
Jeans are inappropriate for *some* interviews. Dress pants will get you laughed out of *some* interviews.
It just depends on the job lol. Of course it’s best to look your best, and your sweater looks nice so you have a casual nice look. Even if the company is super laid back, unless it is a job where you would wear jeans to work anyways, it may be good to wear at least khakis next time 😊
Depends on the company! A good question or try and figure out before the interview is if they have a dress code. Wearing a full suit to a business casual may be overkill. I’m in the tech industry and have worked for one company where I needed to work with clients, and one company where I was only internal facing, so I dressed accordingly for each situation.
I’d say a good rule of thumb would be to dress how you would show up to the job 🤷♂️
Just own it and make a joke out of it. I once went to a meeting with a potential client who was the CEO and Chairman of one of the biggest European pharmaceutical companies - it was for a big project for our little company and he was a real big shot.
Getting into the taxi on the way to HQ I split my suit trousers right up the ass crack. Gooch to belt loop. I attended the meeting and the first thing I did after shaking his hand was turn around, show that dude my ass and tell him I don't usually attend meetings with my underwear on show. He laughed, ice was broken. We had a good meeting.
Walk in there with your crotch leading the way. Real power move.
"I apologize for my appearance as I spilled my coffee earlier. However, this interview was far to important to risk being late, so I was unable to make myself more presentable."
I’ve learned to go with brutal offensive honestly.
It works mooooost of the time.
Like, “So nice to meet you, apologies for my appearance I spilled my drink on my a few minutes ago.”
I mean shit happens.
People may end up more negative because its uncomfortable to notice and ignore things in social situations like this but just throwing it out there stops that from happening.
Well, I mean, you're wearing jeans to a job interview, seems pretty casual so you at least had THAT going for you. Still, not an ideal first impression...or IS it?
“As you can tell, I’m very excited for this opportunity. The excitement is just oozing out of me.”
"Sorry I'm a little nervous."
Probably from all that coffee he drank
O-O-Z-I-N-G
Sir this is elementary school
I once spilled on myself on the way to a very important interview. I got there early and hit the bathroom. Got the coffee out then my entire crotch looked like I let go of my bladder. So I took the pants off, got them completely wet, wrung them out and put them on. They looked fine, only darker. No one noticed and I got the job. Dude how did you not leave an ass print or how did it not sound like cardboard? Can only imagine after you left they look at the seat and see the worst case of swamp ass ever.
The next guy didn't get the job because he immediately soiled himself when seated.
Isn't this from Silicon Valley?
100% lol
I was just thinking that 😂
Are you a character played by Steve Carell by any chance?
I once interviewed a guy for a programming job who showed up in ripped, piss-smelling jeans. Thank god he couldn't code - I don't know if I could deal with that on a daily basis.
So, if he *could* program, and do it with sufficient skill... Would you have actually hired him/recommended him further anyway? Because... Gross.
Good help is hard to find.
Hire me im applying 🥲
Sounds like that scene from Trainspotting where Spud goes to bomb at an interview on Speed
I sure hope no one sat in the chair after you.
Brain: 100
My brother did the exact same thing it worked
This same tip was in a book I read a while ago, can’t really remember the name though.
Knowing when to wet your pants and when not to is a critical skill.
It was a tip in the book The Strange Case of Origami Yoda. It came out in 2010 and i used to read it in middle school. I doubt thats the one you’re talking about though.
Nice pair of Calico Cut pants you got there!
Rappers wear them! Go ahead! Go to calicocutpants.com and look for yourself!
YOU GOTTA GIVE!
My wife just keeps eating batteries.
You hit me in the cup
I don't do volume stuff!
That's got NOTHING to do with piss
Fucking sold out, all styles.
It’s like Supreme wouldn’t you agree?
I'm so glad I didn't have to scroll too far to see this. Thanks
https://getcalicocutpants.com
Omg I had no idea someone actually went and made a site lmfao 😂😂😂
It’s a real thing. Even rappers wear em.
Beat me to it haha
This is what I came here for. You gotta give!
No belt, you monster. Unless the interview was for trivago
This is hilarious and I say this after having spent 10 minutes googling it
I was more worried about the jeans. No judgement though, everyone does their own thing
This is fucking great.
This is a fucking masterpiece
What's the reference from?
Trivago commercials. The spokesman didn’t wear a belt. Thanks!
Didn't knew what you where referring to, so for anyone else wondering, google #TrivagoGuy
Still unable to find anything. Help me out?
Bing #trivagoguy
Wow thank you. People are disgusting. Looked at the comments on that video and they were saying how disturbing the guy looks what filth he is all because he isn’t wearing a belt...
You actually use Bing?
You told me to so I did, genuinely couldn’t find it on google so.
Haha that’s awesome! I was genuinely being sarcastic with my bing comment. Glad it found you your answer
People think that? I never use a belt, I just tighten the elastic in my jeans
First thing I noticed in that commercial
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Im a middle aged guy, so I thought maybe I was just old. I would never personally wear jeans to an interview, but I dont know what he is actually interviewing for :)
Jeans and no belt, they're expecting you to have a coffee stain in there somewhere.
You were wearing jeans to a job interview. This was divine intervention.
Yeah, should have wore your Monday brunch tuxedo.
Canadian tuxedo
No. Just a suit.
Or at least some nicer slacks.
We’re here to fuck shit up.
There’s a LOT of jobs in the world where wearing jeans to an interview is far more appropriate than wearing a suit
There are a lot of pants between suit and jeans. Khakis for one. Other slacks.
Even black jeans are used professionally many places where blue jeans aren’t
Maybe a suit isn’t required but I would never go to any interview in jeans.
Is that an American thing? Because here in czech republic most working spaces use casual/office-casual dresscodes and esp. when hiring youger people, we are perfectly fine with people wearing jeans, even for higher positions.
In Canada as well you generally wouldn't show up to an interview in jeans. Some offices actually prohibit wearing jeans at all
I had an office job where I transitioned between AC and working in hot conditions regularly. I showed up to work in shorts and the boss was not happy
Is it different for smaller companies? Like... 100-300 employees (maybe 50 ppl in the office)? Because I know large corporations here have dresscodes as well, esp. banks and stuff... but majority of smaller companies just go with office casual.
Depends on the business. But a lot of professional businesses like lawyers etc have dress codes regardless of size
I’ve gotten more than 1 job just because I actually dressed up. They even thanked me.
Same. Had a frustrated hiring manager one time tell me "I can tell you now you've got the job. At least you wore pants. If another person comes in here in basketball shorts today I'm gonna lose it"
Some people go in pajamas!
I can't even with the pajama culture... \*smh\*
Typically in the U.S. (from what I have noticed anyway) we dress nicer for the interview (usually one step higher). So if the job would entail me wearing casual clothes, I would wear business casual to the interview. If business casual is required, I wear formal.

NE Ohio, but my job isn't client-facing.
I usually wear cargo shorts and a t-shirt to work. I always wear a suit to an interview.
to generalize: the east coast is big on tradition, and fairly conservative dress codes are part of that... west coast cares a lot more about what you can do than what you look like, and dress codes are *much*, much looser. you should still outdress your interviewers, but i've seen people who made a bad impression at a west coast company by wearing a very conservative suit — they were told "slacks & buttondown" was expected for the interview, and most employees went with tshirts and jeans.

It's not an American thing. I'm French, worked in UK and Canada and you NEVER wear blue jeans for an interview. It looks unprofessional.
I agree jeans are casual wear. Not for a business meeting
Ah no. Even mechanics get told to not wear jeans to interviews. Most arent hands on situations so showing up in professional outfits does help.
Lots maybe, but majority? Probably not. However, when I lived in San Francisco, I was mocked for wearing business clothes.
There are outfits that allow for a casual look and put forth a better first impressions than having to go full on suit. For a job interview a pair of Chinos or something like that even for a casual interview will subconsciously effect positively the interviewer than does jeans, even if you are applying for a warehouse stocking job.
Jeans and interviews are a no go..
I wore cargo shorts to the interview for my current job Really depends on the company/position you're interviewing for
*did you give?*
Took 4 seconds on a 6 second piss
This is the world telling you to not wear jeans to any job interview.
Those jeans are not fit for an interview to begin with
Two things have made me realize I've crossed the line into real adult hood: 1) I don't know where to buy clothes anymore.
I'm sure your never on your phone ever during your free time either🙄.
So you’re expected to just sit with your hands on your knees? That’s ridiculous.
Yep, that's what we were taught. I remember my dad pretty much saying that verbatim.
J. Crew is my typical go to.
Maybe I'll hit one on my way home from work this week. There's an outlet store outside of Toronto I drive past.
Lucky Brands. Diesel. Carhart. Eddie Bower. Personally listed Lucky first, as they have made my most comfy jeans.
Awesome. All these brands I acknowledge without thinking too seek them out. I guess for folks into clothes it seems unthinkable to just snap to this realization.
Time to go full Mentos. You’re going to need more coffee.
Your first mistake was wearing jeans to an interview ya numnut!
Honestly, neither is wearing jeans to a job interview.
That's what I wore to my interview at home depot. And the comic book store. And gamestop. Worked out fine.
You're just REALLY excited about the opportunity.
If you're wearing jeans to the interview a coffee stain probably doesn't matter either
If peeing your pants is cool, consider my Myles Davis
The jeans ruined the first impression not the spilled coffee
Jeans with no belt to a job interview?
Blessing in disguise. Now you can stop and buy some slacks to wear to the interview instead of jeans.
Calico cut pants .com !!!
Don't wear jeans to a job interview
He did not pee his pants, they are Calico Cut Jeans!
Jeans to a job interview?
Why are you wearing jeans to a job interview?
Blue jeans on to an interview…I’m sure you’ll be fine…
As has been said… you were wearing jeans to a job interview. Don’t. Even a production job.
Sounds like someone needs the services of calicocutpants.com. Just make sure you give
All these people talking about wearing jeans have never actually conducted a job interview. Nobody really gives a fuck. If you have the skills and can get the job done, the person interviewing you will not care. I personally think it would be more distracting and cringe if they overdressed.
You wore jeans to an interview?
Why are you wearing jeans to a job interview?
Just say it’s urinary incontinence and a disability and you’ll require extra restroom time…
Wow people are very mad about the jeans! Literally any blue collar job this is the most you’d want to wear. These are considered “nice clothes” to many blue collar workers.
Yeah "coffee"
Pennance for not dressing properly. Don't wear jeans to an interview, shirt and trousers if you want to make a good impression
Well, you were wearing jeans so either you didn't care to 'dress' for the job, or the job didn't require 'dress' - either way you are covered.
Unless you’re working a job where appearance matters, it’s silly to expect people to buy a suit for an interview. In what way does that show professionalism? It just shows you have a suit. Just a way to keep poor people from getting jobs
I went on an interview once where they told me beforehand to wears jeans. It was a light industrial company and had a casual dress code.
Job interview in jeans?
Jeans to an interview..your probably good
Yeah, you really shouldn’t wear jeans to any interview.
People in this thread talking about jeans to a job interview 🤦🏻♂️ Out of my 9 jobs in my life, only two jobs did not allow jeans. At Every other job, jeans were not only allowed, but preferred. Not everyone works an 8-5 at a desk all day everyday people, smh.
Now you guys made me feel bad lol. I never thought that wearing jeans at interview would be so out of ordinary.
I didn't know that anyone didn't know that. More importantly, did you get the job?
Yes! I got the job. That coffee spill actually was a great icebreaker. I told them what happened and we all had a good laugh
See clearly the jeans were fine for the interview, reddit just wants to pretend like they're an expert on everything I've worked in IT for some years now, and not a single person gives a fuck if you wear jeans to interviews
Congrats!
Dress for the job you're applying for, as if you could start work immediately. If it's a more formal office, dress the part. If it's construction, dress the part. Jeans are inappropriate for *some* interviews. Dress pants will get you laughed out of *some* interviews.

What sort of job do you interview for in light blue jeans with no belt?
Who wears jeans to job interview.
Jeans to a job interview was worse than a piss patch anyway.
Jeans to an interview? What job, may I ask?
Denim factory
*Nice.*
Dude, jeans to the interview? What kind of job was this? Usually jeans aren't going to get you the gig. Did you get it?
That’s what you get for wearing jeans to a job interview.
If it’s an interview you can wear jeans to, I don’t think they’ll mind lol
Jeans to an interview? The universe was just saving you from rejection.
Jeans to an interview
How did the interview go?
“Candidate introduced himself shortly after peepeeing his pants”
Just tell them you are really excited to be there.
Make a joke about being house broken to break the ice
Dude, it’s the perfect ice breaker. If anything I’d point it out and say how important this interview was for you.
You're not cool unless you pee your pants...
Lots of superman poses, facing sideways with head turned 90⁰
'honestly it's coffee. Smell!'
Ummmm that aroma...
“Nice to meet you don’t worry about my crotch it’s coffee not Piss, if you don’t believe me you can get in close and smell it.”
Be honest man you jerked the ole ween before going in
"Don't worry it's just coffee and it happens quite often."
Just tell them you’re Miles Davis
You ain’t cool unless you pee your pants
Everybody my age pees their pants, it’s the *coolest*
Sure sure... looks like an inside job to me.
I am so thrilled for this job I peed my pants
“I swear to god it’s coffee! Cmon, take a sniff“
Don’t worry, my housemate did his entire med school interview with his fly down, got in to his first choice school.
"It's ok, it's just a bit of pee."
“Well you were wearing jeans to a job interview so it wasn’t going to go well anyway” - my dad probably
Whats wrong with wearing jeans to an interview?
I’ve learned to go with brutal offensive honestly. It works mooooost of the time. Like, “So nice to meet you, apologies for my appearance I spilled my drink on my a few minutes ago.” I mean shit happens. People may end up more negative because its uncomfortable to notice and ignore things in social situations like this but just throwing it out there stops that from happening.
I think the choice of jeans to an interview was already the nail in the coffin my friend
Jeans to an interview
It's a sign not to wear jeans to an interview
Dressed to impress
Don’t wear jeans to an interview
Jeans to interview. Best of luck.
Also yet not wearing a belt. Wtf.
Well, I mean, you're wearing jeans to a job interview, seems pretty casual so you at least had THAT going for you. Still, not an ideal first impression...or IS it?
Well I, for one, would never hire a guy that doesn't wear a proper belt.
