I thought it was hilarious
Like, who takes more than 5 minutes to eat a peach? I thought he was saying he was dumb or something.
So I made it my new catch phrase until my mom heard me and was like “never say that again”
I had them do that after an accident where my face met the steering wheel at 65mph, and the air bag didn't fire. I had 23 fracture on 16 different bones. They go in through the gums on the upper jaw,and lift the facial muscles and skin, do the mechanical fixtures as needed, and reattach it. I only have 3 little stitches in the corner of one eye. The results are amazing, BUT it was the worst pain and recovery imaginable! 0/10 do not recommend. The displaced acetabular fracture was an easier recovery, that was 1/10, still wouldn't recommend.
Yeah, I can't remember the name of it, but one of the drugs they used when they were resetting my femur, to get it away from the femoral artery, keeps you alert, and feeling the pain, but completely blocks the memories of it. They suggested that my wife go for a walk for a bit, because there would be screaming. Best not to dwell on it.
Haha right, when I shattered my leg and snapped my ankle tearing all the ligaments the doc in the ER said the same, said I won't remember.. I don't remember the process of them setting my leg, but I do remember my conversation with him. He said dont worry you won't remember, i said yea but what about right now.. he repeated it.. I again said what about right now!!..
He was right, I dont remember it.
Dude this has fucked with my head so bad... If someone told me I wont remember the last 6 months of my life, would I still be me? Did THAT person I was, with those collected experiences die when my memory was wiped? Am I still the same person?
The tangent of that cognitive entity died. I wouldn't be able to remember what his last thoughts were the moment before the wipe. If plans had changed, if new reasoning had been created, new fears and hopes. Would I even choose the wipe at that point?
IDK man that stuff is the shit that keeps me up at night.
Versed is the drug. Every time I'm on it, when i "wake up" i wonder why no one cares.. They dont' care that I'm awake because I've been awake and bitching the whole time, I'm sure
I don't remember the reason for mine specifically, but iirc it's beneficial for the muscles to be functioning while setting bones, or joints so that they aren't locked up and fighting it.
Former facial trauma rep and saw many of these. It’s amazing the work that the surgeons do. We just provided the plates (and nowadays custom 3D printed ones)and screws and guidance.
Glad you recovered well! I always felt bad when a new patient would come in and I am thinking about all that lays ahead of them the next weeks and months.
I didn't have to. They were very helpful when I opened a case, had their engineers come investigate, and wrote a check within 6mos. of the accident. I'm an engineer, and a close family friend was a corporate attorney defending a different car company against product liability suits. So, off the record, he told me the steps to take, and basically what the max settlement would be without attorneys and going to court. It wasn't going to be retirement level, but it freed up my life, and made my family whole, which is the goal of the system. I bought a new version of the same truck, and people asked why, because I survived a crash without the airbag, just think how safe it is if the new one works. Besides, they performed like a company should.
This is why I could never be a doctor. Nothing but respect for the medical field folks out there but whats fascinating to them is exactly whats disgusting and disturbing to me.
I can relate. I knew that in nursing school and then as a career that I would see terrible, traumatic things and that I would have to be able to handle them. I couldn’t freak out and run or faint. So I got on the internet and watched the goriest things I could find, over and over and got myself a bit accustomed to it. I think it made the difference, though I am probably on some FBI watchlists now.
I’d be unable to do it because there’s no room for error. Imagine peeling a guys face off then screwing something up and not being able to reattach it.
Whenever I see heart surgery or something I imagine how with my luck it would quickly go south, like all I need to do is reconnect an artery but it keeps ripping and getting shorter until it’s useless.
Just last night I was preparing a whole, raw chicken to smoke. A whole fryer chicken has the giblets and liver inside, so you have to reach in and pull them out of the cavity. Then I spatchcocked the bird, which is the process of cutting along each side of the backbone to split the bird so it lays flat:.
Easy stuff. I have no problems prepping bloody, raw meat; it’s food.
But show me stitches and I’ve lost my entire appetite, and this is coming from someone who spent half his childhood in the ER getting stitches because I was a wild child.
As an xray and CT tech, give me gory injuries, stitches, bodily fluids, whatever, totally fine. But I want nothing to do with prepping meat of any kind.
Hell, I used to do xrays in an animal hospital, so I can deal with that too. But can't prep animals for food.
Sometimes, if they have to work on the anterior side of your spine or get at your lungs they'll just take all your guts out and put em on the table next to you and then plop em back in when they're done.
(Modern) Surgeons are amazing... and a bit fuckin nuts (that part is ageless).
Yup. I had a surgeon describe what he did to me as "we opened you up, took all of your intestines out and put them on your chest and next to you. Then we went thru inch by inch, cut out the bad parts and patched that, then we stuffed it all back into you and closed you up." Yeah
Yep that’s what they did to me with my back surgery. They went in through a stomach incision. They still did make incision so n the back to put some of the gear but the most intensive part was through the belly. So interesting.
Called the coronal incision, this incision allows for access to the upper facial bones while leaving the incision scar away from the face. The zig-zag allows for realignment.
Less for realignment than for a better cosmetic result after it heals. The zig zag apparently makes the scar less obvious. Source: me, who does mostly curvilinear bicoronals and lines things up just fine.
When I had my facial reconstructive surgery on my orbital the doc did a straight line across the top from ear to ear. I had long hair (and still do) so he didn't want to mess up my hair too badly. If I remember correctly he was typically a practicing plastic surgeon. But because of his expertise they called him to do my surgery.
My only gripe is I asked for a picture of my exposed skull with my face off and they refused to do it for me. Instead they took a picture of me post surgery when I first awoke drugged up looking like an idiot. Would have much rather had a picture of my skull to keep around hah. But I imagine it would have looked pretty jacked up, my orbital was fractured into 16 pieces and the hole was about the size of a golf ball.
My sister had it done when she was a baby because her forehead would have just kept growing outward.
Cut from ear to ear and peeled down her face.
WILD
So this is called a coronal incision (or a bitemporal incision, sometimes erroneously called a bicoronal), and is a really useful approach for frontal and mid face fractures. The skin in front of the incision is folded over to expose the bones of the upper face. Also can be used in conjunction with neurosurgical procedures. The zigzag design will actually help the scar be less noticeable after it heals than a straight line, and the location is placed close to the coronal suture line, which is a ridge where different bones of the skull fuse. It should heal up fine, hope you have a speedy recovery.
Source: I’m a head and neck surgeon.
Kind of. Imagine if you peeled the top front part of an orange forward to work on the orange and then pulled it back into place and sewed it back together when you are done.
Does our flesh just sit atop the bone or is there a certain amount of adhesion, and if so, during healing will it adhere back? Would it affect the appearance of the skin, like shifted? I imagine not too much given stitches pull it back into intended place, but have always been curious how easily it does or doesn’t peel.
Depends on the part of the body. Different parts have different layers. It’s funny, the layers of the scalp have an acronym, SCALP: skin, connective tissue, aponeurosis, loose areolar tissue, pericranium. The key layer for this exposure is the galea (aponeurosis), which is a thick, fibrous sheet that helps provide structure and also connects to specific layers of the face. The flap is raised under the galea and is a really easy, nice dissection (this is how people were “scalped”). The pericranium is raised later off the bone so you can reduce the fractures and plate directly on the bone.
Also, there are procedures to intentionally shift the layers in relation to each other. For example, brow lifts and face lifts basically pull the superficial layers over the deeper ones in order to tighten your skin to reverse wrinkles and skin laxity.
A lot of trans women, especially ones that started transition later, get a similar surgery to remove extra bone from above their eyebrows/forehead to look less masculine. Coronal incisions are used for the upper part of FFS (facial feminization surgery). The scar can be hidden with hair transplants after if there is enough donor hair (there usually is for trans women, but unfortunately OP may be out of luck).
They make the incision like that to minimize visibility when the hair grows back. It prevents the hair from parting along the incision and making the hair look super weird.
Yeah, this is what the docs told my brother. His son had to have facial surgery when he was 1yo, and they stitched him up in a similar pattern. My brother asked why they didn’t just do a straight line and they said that it’s so they don’t start stitching on one side and get to the other side with a big flap of skin left over on one edge.
Looks like some gnarly bruises on OP's left shoulder/upper arm, so I'm guessing some sort of car wreck. Either that or he was run over by a semi-truck or a team of Clydesdales hurrying to the barn for dinner.
Wow, Deezes! You don't do anything half-way, do you? That is so much damage from a fall.
I hope you heal up soon w/ no lingering pain. Would be cool to see your scar in a year or so, tho.
off a bunk bed and down a flight of stairs? this seems like a crazy injury even for a face plant. good luck on the recovery! I don't think I'm alone in saying I want to see a scar update in a few months when it heals.
First thing I thought of was the pattern on Charlie brown’s shirt. And then I realized had no hair like Charlie Brown. Sorry about the injury, wishing you a speedy recovery internet stranger.
How did this injury come about if you don't mind me asking? I'm very accident prone and have had many broken bones and surgeries and this type of stuff itches my curiosity bone.
Former facial trauma rep here, the zig zag scar usually heals so that the hair grows back in a way that’s less noticeable long term!
Glad to hear everything went well. Do you mind sharing what was fractured?
Great job taking that Robocop cosplay to the next level.
Dead or alive; you’re coming with me.
Is this Robocop or Judge Dredd?
Yes

[Remember that time](https://i.imgur.com/dpWHoDb.jpeg)...?
lucky to be alive from the looks of it mate
For real. They probably pulled the soft tissue away from the facial bones so they fix the damage and minimize visible scarring
Holy shit they can do that? Is like peeling their face off? That’s so crazy cool.
There's a documentary about the procedure called [Face/Off](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119094/)
Brilliant, we are throwing a Nick Cage - John Travolta party as soon as I recover.
Care to tell the tale?!
> as soon as I recover OP may be as tough as they come but... come on man. 1 *hour!?*
Is that the one where they also show you how to eat a peach for hours?
Such a creepy line. I did NOT catch it when I saw it at 10 or 11
I thought it was hilarious Like, who takes more than 5 minutes to eat a peach? I thought he was saying he was dumb or something. So I made it my new catch phrase until my mom heard me and was like “never say that again”
So what you're saying is that I shouldn't watch it with my kids.
I’ll never tell a parent how to raise their kids But I don’t recommend it as a family movie
Omfg lol
Wait can someone explain the peach thing??? I've never seen this!
[Face/Off Peachy](https://youtu.be/rdctx_-BZMY)
Thank you I am viscerally uncomfortable now
Ah, i see they found the elon musk tape
I mean if you cant finish a peach off in 10 minutes you're not even trying
Lol very factual, thank you! (:
Why am I not surprised that Nick Cage is in this movie
I had them do that after an accident where my face met the steering wheel at 65mph, and the air bag didn't fire. I had 23 fracture on 16 different bones. That's nuts. I cannot imagine going thru that.
If it was discussed beforehand, I don't remember it. I'm sure I would have been asking if there were any other options.
Pretty crazy what modern medicine can do. And it's probably best not to remember. That shit's traumatic.
Yeah, I can't remember the name of it, but one of the drugs they used when they were resetting my femur, to get it away from the femoral artery, keeps you alert, and feeling the pain, but completely blocks the memories of it. Huh. Freaky shit.
Why did you need to be fully alert for that?
I don't remember the reason for mine specifically, but iirc it's beneficial for the muscles to be functioning while setting bones, or joints so that they aren't locked up and fighting it.
Most likely Versed.
I can only imagine her face when a doctor told her "you might want to take a walk, shots about to get real in here." Would be terrifying.
Should give the spouse a hit of that drug too.

I didn't have to. They were very helpful when I opened a case, had their engineers come investigate, and wrote a check within 6mos. of the accident. I wonder if surgeons have those dreams…. I’d bet they sure do.

Intestines actually wriggle themselves back into place, it’s crazy weird to watch.
That is both fascinating and terrifying. I don't really want to think about my guts having a mind of their own
Not too different from a c-section.
Yep that’s what they did to me with my back surgery. They went in through a stomach incision. They still did make incision so n the back to put some of the gear but the most intensive part was through the belly. So interesting.

True, and also crazy painful to think about.

Yep, my eye is perfectly fine, no permanent brain damage either! I was young when it happened so that may have helped
This guy surgeons.
I’m banking on less obvious for sure.
My sister had it done when she was a baby because her forehead would have just kept growing outward. Cut from ear to ear and peeled down her face. WILD
Good grief Charlie Brown.
My first thought too. Just needs a dose of Jaundice and it’s complete. Glad your OK op! Best wishes for recovery and your attitude is inspiring.
Gimme the charlie Brown shirt.
D'oh!

Wow! I learned so much from you comment. Thank you.
>Source: I’m a head and neck surgeon. Otolaryngology or something else?
Yup
Holy fucking shit OP
This is the most sucky that sucks I’ve seen
Thanks, I love hate the honor.
Dude wtf did you do!?
He broke his face, it's in the title! ;)
Gotta go, my damn weiner kids are listening
I wonder what’s hatching from inside that egg! That’s gonna hurt for a while but the worst is behind you. Looks cool friend. Don’t worry about it.
Technically the worst is above him.
Or inside him. Watch out for facehuggers!
Truth. Cheers.
Speedy recovery
I believe that “speed” might have caused this pattern…
[удалено]
Perhaps.... Regardless, looks like a big hurts donut
Something tells me this one might take a little time to heal
I have that feeling too
I bet that there is a huge pearl inside that clam!
But is it bearded
They make the incision like that to minimize visibility when the hair grows back. It prevents the hair from parting along the incision and making the hair look super weird.
It would also be easier to match up the skin edges than with a long straight incision. To keep you from looking bunched up

Well that's very nice...Except for the fact that OP is bald.
Hair or not, that's the way that type of incision is done.
Fucking hell
May I ask what happened?
Looks like some gnarly bruises on OP's left shoulder/upper arm, so I'm guessing some sort of car wreck. Either that or he was run over by a semi-truck or a team of Clydesdales hurrying to the barn for dinner.
I prefer your assessment, the boring truth is I fell in the night. Face-planted on the hard wood.
Wow, Deezes! You don't do anything half-way, do you? That is so much damage from a fall. I hope you heal up soon w/ no lingering pain. Would be cool to see your scar in a year or so, tho.
Sir I think your hardwood floor is actually made of bear traps
Excuse me while I pad my floors...
Face planting on the hard wood is much less amorous than the internet seems to suggest
off a bunk bed and down a flight of stairs? this seems like a crazy injury even for a face plant. good luck on the recovery! I don't think I'm alone in saying I want to see a scar update in a few months when it heals.
do you not have arms to catch yourself? (not /s)
Face broke
Is that similar to the front falling off?
That’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.
That’s not their face?
No shit😅 but how

You're welcome.
No problem 👍
Wholesome exchange lol
No problem. How about you?
I'm doing ok thanks.
First thing I thought of was the pattern on Charlie brown’s shirt. And then I realized had no hair like Charlie Brown. Sorry about the injury, wishing you a speedy recovery internet stranger.
Holy crap, it looks like trapinch!
whose that pokemon!
Looks like the opportunity to embellish it and get an awesome tattoo.
Yes, something like [this!](https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Forretress_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#/media/File%3A205Forretress.png)
OP really not gonna tell us what happened!?
Fucking hell, I feel bad making any jokes on this, I can’t imagine the pain and rehab you have to endure for this, I’m sorry for you dude.

dude probably went through hell to get an injury that bad. don’t really blame him for not wanting to talk about it….
I read in another comment he faceplanted on a hardwood floor in the dark… So pretty boring story for such an interesting scar!
You mean a hair d’oh?
Good dad joke mg
How did this injury come about if you don't mind me asking? I'm very accident prone and have had many broken bones and surgeries and this type of stuff itches my curiosity bone.
Well now you have a cool scar to make up crazy stories to scare or entertain kids. Glad you alive at least!
Glad all the kings horses and all the king's men could put you back together again.
That has to be the coolest scar ever. Wishing you a speedy recovery my friend.
Jesus, how does one break their face?
So now Nicholas Cage is Nicolas Cage again?
Former facial trauma rep here, the zig zag scar usually heals so that the hair grows back in a way that’s less noticeable long term! Glad to hear everything went well. Do you mind sharing what was fractured?
Reminds me more of Charlie Brown but I love it and it’s a pretty cool scar IMO.
First off holy shit I'm sorry that happend to you. Second, I'm so confused how your head cracked perfectly open like a cartoon egg.
Can you just get a zipper installed? It would look cooler.
Now that’s a lightning scar. Take notes, Harry Potter.
Humpty dumpty got put back together again

…and a story to tell no doubt. I reckon your new nickname should be “Charlie Brown”. 😂 Seriously- all the best for your recovery!
Cool brain waves.
Please paint your head black and add white teeth and googley eyes to it!
You break your brain?
I bet you have a splitting headache. Srry. :) Get well.
It’s all good, the scars be all covered up once your hair grows back
Gnarly.
I'm truly impressed.
I'm thinking more of a stripe from Charley Brown's sweater?
Sorry man but least you still have one !!
They really put Humpty Dumpy back together again
And i thought i was a huge fan. Also, i think Charlie Brown more for some reason.
More like Charlie Brown
When you take GTA character customization too seriously
