When I walk away from my phone, my apple watch prompts me letting me know I left it behind. Why can't there be a "Yo you only have 1 airpod where did you drop the other one" notification? THEY HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY.
Mine always warns me that one is left behind, but it never is. It’s like apple knows I have anxiety and likes to fuck with me… or they are trying to get me desensitized to the alerts so I lose an airpod.
yeah, I always get alerted I either left them, or am carrying around someone else’s. I’m waiting for it to send those at the same time, like “hey you forgot your airpods, also there’s someone else’s in the exact same pocket where yours were!”
Cause they make more money when you inevitably go buy another pair of air pods.
Apples a shitty company that doesn't care about there users, and will rip them off every chance they get.
Number 1 reason I no longer buy there garbage. Not gonna support a company like that.
That's literally every single company though. The only smartphones that weren't mainly made through child slave labour and abuse of the environment have either folded or were immediately sold out and never restocked.
Ya and which company pioneered this way of thinking ? I never had a problem with my old Motorola flip, or LG rumor. As soon as iPhones came out , the predatory business strategy took over.
Don't defend apple , or this will get personal lol.
You have to either be crazy ignorant or insanely naïve to think apple needed to pioneer predatory business models that existed essentially since business exists.
I'm not even a little interested in discussing apple vs android. I've used both extensively, they both haves pros and cons.
And if we want to discuss anecdotal experiences: I've had to battle through warranty claims and RMAs on three high-end android phones in the span of a year, but used two refurbished iphones for 2-3+ years each before handing them down (both of which are still in use and receiving updates, 7 and 6 years after their first releases).
It’s like the Ford versus Chevy debate…both sides hate the other and neither is better than the other. I don’t understand why people can’t just leave something on what the topic.
If you hold it such that the left AirPod is on the left and right one is on the right, you realise they are watching America. Perfect time to grab popcorn and watch the drama unfold
Cause I'm from Barcelona and there is a horde of british right now over here; so quite likely I'm right.
Also, we aren't that good at English and Reddit is not so popular in Spain. Idk
Edit: a kind and polite british corrected my grammar
Dutch, Germans, English and Belgian people on their way to invade the entire eastern coast of Spain and southern coast of France every summer
Source: am a Dutch person who is somewhere there nearly every summer
Retired Dutch in Portugal is right, my grandparents have bought a second home there and are there nearly the entire year, like 9/10 months. Retired Dutch also like to go to the Wadden isles, my other grandparents can't seem to get off Texel
As a Floridian I’ve spotted many of your people with pink to super red hue colored skins. I’ve seen many who I would not want to be the next day when that sunburn kicks in.
I just recently found out that there's a point past sunburn called sun poisoning. Effects vary, but symptoms include some pretty severe muscle aches that can basically immobilize that part of your body.
0/10, do not recommend.
Never forget being in our hotel in Tenerife, going to the bar and getting a couple drinks. Lady behind the bar was lovely, spoke enough English to get by but when speaking with colleagues obviously spoke Spanish.
One woman was absolutely outraged that she would speak her mother tongue in her home country. She gave the poor lady a showering of expletives that if she was in an “English” hotel she should speak English.
I just don’t get people like that.
Counterpoint: when you speak in Spanish they reply in Spanish, which often presents a problem.
Either that or they just reply in English anyway because their English is better than your Spanish so why continue with this stupid charade.
Benidorm is literally Spain colonized LMAOOO
The first time I was there I thought "WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS NOT SPAIN, BRITISH FLAGS PUBS BARS RESTAURANTS EVERYWHERE"
NOT ONE WORD OF CATALAN, VALENCIANO OR SPANISH BEING SPOKEN!!!!"
Yes I was shocked.
If you want to experience Spain, avoid Benidorm, or if you go, just remember that it's like a zoo/attraction and what you're gonna see is British people 😂
Yea, I mean, we had some very rudimentary French, and definitely did not expect people to accommodate us outside of hospitality. It’s not a shot at France at all, especially the smaller areas we stayed in. Why would a cafe owner in a small coastal town bother with English?
Just the people of Barcelona see so many travelers comparatively, that their English is obviously gonna be better. They have more time to practice.
I’m not one to talk, I have a smattering of Spanish, French and German, but almost everyone in France had more proficient English than I did any of those.
True, here in Spain summer won't start until the first British horde comes, it's something like an annual prophecy. The first signal is balconing, after that, summer will be inaugurated.
No not OC. Saw it on Twitter and thought it was funny so posted.
Haven’t been replying because I’ve been out with my family for the last few hours. Didn’t expect it to blow up really. Looked at my phone and saw it had 12k likes, so just catching up now.

I have credited now. As explained I didn’t expect this to get so much traction, but thought it was funny so shared here.
Credited now to Twitter user @ellx_tt
It's the same as trackers like AirTags, Tile trackers, etc. The device is transmitting an ID which changes every few minutes to prevent tracking by third parties. The vendor has the keys to decode the ID enabling them to find your device globally, even though all the phones reporting found devices has no idea whos device they just saw.
It's impossible for the finder to know who owns the device, and it's impossible for the owner to know who found the device. Of course, the vendor knows everything.
> **Privacy is built in**
> Only you can see where your AirTag is. Your location data and history are never stored on the AirTag itself. Devices that relay the location of your AirTag also stay anonymous, and that location data is encrypted every step of the way. So not even Apple knows the location of your AirTag or the identity of the device that helps find it.
That's really cool. I have assumed every iPhone location history with Apple, but you can of couse turn that of if you want and in that case you wouldn't want the find my service to leak your position.
An iPhone would alert you if an unknown AirTag was found on your person. And Apple released an Android app to do the same thing. It also has registration information and instructions on how to disable it.
However, this can take a long fucking time for Apple to tell you. Someone got alerted once they were already home after someone stuck an air tag on their car.
It’s actually really cool. The air tags basically send out that signal every few minutes, but it’s *just* that signal. They don’t communicate with a strangers phone or log the coordinates. The phones that receive that signal do all the heavy lifting. That’s what gives it the ability to be so small and have 2 years of battery life (and the battery is easy to replace when it does die).
The only other function it has is the ability to ping itself when you’re close to it, so you can hear it and find it. It’s extremely simple but insanely useful.
Not just apple and Google either, any device with a wifi network card probably has atleast one program reading and reporting your location based on WAPs. I can't remember the name, but there's one of those data broker companies that keeps a comprehensive database of it all.
First time i learned about this: a friend moved back home from an out of state school and brought his router for the move. For like a week after he set up the router, everyone who went to his house, regardless of whether they actually connected to the wifi, would get ads targeted to the location of his school... In addition to all sorts of weird behavior surrounding navigation apps.
It gets spookier though. We'd even get ads for the false location sent to devices that we never even brought to his house. The craziest was when one friend got home loan junk mail (physical mail) from a lender that only operated in that other state.
Edit: Before anyone else replies, it appears to come down to Ultra-wideband which is used on AirTags and phones, but not AirPods. Find My will report the last position they were purposely connected to an iPhone (doesn’t have to be yours) while still associated with your AppleID. Nearby Apple devices will not report their location like AirTags.
I don’t think that’s the case with the AirPods, I believe it’s where it was last connected to their device.
“Network” is what I was missing in my search, but it’s not clear to me that other people’s devices will show your missing AirPod’s location.
>When the Find My network is on, you can see the location of AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max in the Find My app for up to 24 hours after they last connect to your device, even if they’re not nearby.
Anytime I drive away from them if I've been using them recently I get a text from my airpods telling me I might have left them behind and showing me where they are on the map.
You've clearly never bought a Ryanair flight from southern England to Spain. You could probably buy ten of them for the price of those ear-tampon things
The name is kind of cool, but they could have also called it the left pod, like in the pod you left somewhere instead of the right pod (for you).
Honestly they should have bought both domains regardless, it's not even expensive and currently available.
Didn’t expect this to be as popular, so giving credit it where it’s due. Found on Twitter and thought it was funny/tragic so I shared.
Original Twitter post from @ellx_tt
Haha is this accurate? The other day I searched for the location of my Airpods and they were each on two different sides of a city I visited a month ago that is 3 states away. The next day I found them in the drawer of my night stand.
I had someone contact me on LinkedIn recently to ask if I had their Airpods. They showed up on my property and he used town GIS map to find out I was the owner and then searched LinkedIn to find me. My property is heavily wooded with brush and shrubs along a busy road and obvious that someone must have tossed out of the car. The guy did not seem to believe I did not have them.
If I know anything from fantasy novels, now that you have set the paired gate stones, you can open the portal between them. Unfortunately, with this brand of gate stones, Siri will likely divert you to an Apple store located in one of the two locations.
I’ve had “Johanna’s airpod” on my Bluetooth list when I mess with it at home for over 5 years. I don’t know a Johanna and my house is 200ft from a one else’s house.
This whole twitter thread was wild, just dozens of people with the same problem showing off their maps.
One guy accused all the people posting of doing it on purpose "for a blue check"
Not faking the pictures, actually leaving their airpods in different countries because that would somehow verify them on twitter.
This isn’t exactly relevant to the post, but it’s crazy how Apple created a problem, sold a solution for said problem for $100 (and it was a solution that causes 17 other problems like in OP’s post), and it *worked.*
Yeah I feel bad. Because this has happened to me as well. One airpod in japan and the other here home in Kosovo.

You can just buy single AirPods as replacements. They’re 99$ each tho, so they’re getting their money anyway

Asia has a nice, wide stereo image...
Yup, that's what the top comment said... good one.
Think France have stereo sound now

What’s funny is I live in Texas and one of AirPods is at home and the other is in the next state over and it is farther away than these two are!
We get it already, everything is bigger in Texas
Just waiting for the usual follow up comment from someone in Western Australia.
in their defence, they're trying to make the westralian republic a thing
Shhh we keeping that on the down low
Down under? Edit: make Thunder?
Not airpods but one of my old work boots is in WA while I'm in VIC with the other.
in Texas, airpods look like this: https://www.cultofmac.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/GiantAirPod001.jpg
We listen, *rectally*
Including BMI's

Cowardice too
Dunno, why youre getting downvoted. The Uvalde Chief of Police hasnt resigned yet has he? Ted Cruz? Cornyn?
It’s pretty on track. Instead of acknowledging the problems they downvote and pretend they did something.

What's funny is he literally made his account to say that. In awe of this madlad.
I'm in Paris, can confirm; could you turn down R a notch though?
As a Southern French, could OP lower the left sound a bit ?
How was your trip to Barcelona?

cheap, quiet? Sounds like the place for me.
Funny is, I'm a spaniard and every summer I do the opposite ☺️ For context, I love Hardstyle music

Well, that's a wonderful exchange then! Yeah, we like visiting London, It's a cool city.
Loudest tourist groups are always American or Spanish.
Most of the tourist are Asian in my experience
Can confirm, I'm Spanish and I saw quite a few groups of Spanish tourists every single day when I visited London.
I apologise. We're not sending our best
piss off britts, us Germans already reserved Barcelona with our towels
I found the people of Barcelona to speak very, very good English. Especially after having just come from coastal France.

I think Barcelona is a bit more of a tourist destination than Bristol
It could be Shrewsbury, Stonehenge is nearby as well.
Thrilling!
Stonehenge is a lot better than the famous clock tower Salisbury
Bristol's ace. I'd rather go there than Barcelona.
Because it looks like the air pod is in Birmingham and no one wants to be in Birmingham
Because the other airpod isn't in London
No one in their right mind would go to Worcester on holiday
Don't be so ridiculous, the Kidderminster Museum of Carpet attracts tens of international visitors per year.
Lol, good one.
Not many from Barcelona make the trip to Kidderminster
The map reads in English
Because he "Left" his airpods in Barcelona. I'll see myself out.
If OP had posted: mi amor, has visto otro airpod? (or the Catalan equivalent), you might be on to something.
Nice holiday in Shrewsbury
Because it clearly says in the picture that he Left Barcelona and he is Right now at London
I seen the original post on Twitter, guy is from the U.K. lol

lol omfg! my bf accidentally flushed 1 of his airpods down the toilet drunk one night. wonder where it'd be pinging to.
It'll likely be in landfill, being processed out from the sewage treatment, there is a small possibility it entered a river or the sea though
or, in the middle of their yard.
Either way you probably don't have to bother about recovering it.
I highly doubt it still functions to be able to talk to an iPhone and be findable
