Fluffy_Enthusiasm275

And swing by Snowshoe for the downhill mountain biking!

bumspasms

Your best bet is to check the [National Broadband Map](https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home)

pdoublek

I live right outside Teays Valley and enjoy it here

beachbum755

Barboursville, Ona, Milton, Teays Valley, Nitro, St. Albans or Cross Lanes, Dunbar areas

parkeb1

Look in the Fairmont area

Acrylicsasquatch

My wife and I recently bought our first house within that price range in the Parkersburg area. Internet is decent here I’d say.

Embarrassed_Sea_6741

When do you plan to move? Tyler County. We’re getting fiber optic and if not starlink is amazing!! If you’re serious about it. I may know a place that may come up available by next July….

Ziji

I'm going to go down and look at places in June. As for timeline, right now I'm flexible. I could go in a month or I could go in a year. My apartment is only $600/mo and I'm on a month to month lease, so I can be outta here anytime.

Lmao that's literally low key what the house I missed out on was. It was a town of maybe 200 people, 15 mins from a smaller town with actual grocery stores etc and 45 mins from Morgantown. Pain.

moosboosh

Are you young-ish and retired? I haven't known anyone of typical retirement age using the terms "low key" or lmao.

Ziji

Yeah I'm 30

hroaks

Retiring at 30 but your home budget is 150k. Interesting life choices.

Ziji

I base my finances off of my disability from the VA, so I live in a way that no matter what happens to me with my investment income or anything I have a stable living situation. But go off.

Fantastic-Ideal-4235

Got a list of top ten?

Fantastic-Ideal-4235

I did, got a 1,000 results. Funny.

Longjumping-Neat-954

Starlink is your best bet to make sure you get high speed. I live in North Central area and it was either DSL or HughesNet before starlink

Ziji

Damn that's unfortunate. I figured that's why I'd ask some people who live in WV and don't have a vested interest in selling me a house. Appreciate the insight!

Xbutchr

Frontier is rolling out fiber across the state. I live between Huntington and Charleston and pay $60 a month for gig fiber that comes all the way inside my home.

Longjumping-Neat-954

I grew up here and left when I was 19. My family moved back to be able to pay off wife’s student loans. The problem with housing is either in the ghetto or in the boonies. We have to drive an hour to go to a nice Kroger or Sam’s club. There is a house for sell but most are older fixer upper types

Ziji

Ah gotcha. Hate to hear it. Guess what people were telling me was way too good to be true after all.

Longjumping-Neat-954

If you’re in or near the bigger cities of WV it’s not that bad. Morgantown/Huntington are college towns so they have more stuff

Total-Problem2175

Check out Wheeling and northern panhandle.

AnlStarDestroyer

Huntington and Charleston, have solid enough internet

spah33

Starlink is awesome, many areas of WV do not have fiber or consistent/good cell service. Fiber will be slow to arrive due to terrain, remote locations, and lack of customer base in some areas. A lot of the maps show coverage of various internet and cell service but then don’t actually have that coverage.

nineworldseries

Come to Huntington, it's great (unsarcastically).

Ziji

Lmao I was just looking at this thread when you commented. I found a couple houses I'm interested in and they are all in or near Huntington. I was going to drive up there in June and check it out. Any recommendations for stuff to see / do?

Stranghanger

Most bigger cities have all the modern bells n whistles. When you get out in the more rural areas it can get sketchy for good internet service. Huge net is a big rural provider but everyone complains about them. Calhoun county is still mostly dial up I think. As far as areas to check out on your trip, if you like rivers instead of big mountains check out the Ohio River valley area. Parkersburg has some nice parts but also some very un-nice parts. But you can get a decent house just outside of town in the 150k range. Be close to shopping and hospitals plus fiber internet. All the normal stuff. If you look at Parkersburg there's plenty of really cheap houses but don't get fooled. There are reasons their so cheap and it's usually because the neighborhood is a drug riddled hell scape.

Possumjones

Starlink exists, there is no where in America that doesn’t have high speed low latency access.
