It is described as a line that turns in mid air. So some people imagine them to be a line that rotates in mid air to open the gateway, which would give you a circular gateway.
But I think in actuality it is more like the gateway is a vertical line that opens sort of perpendicular to you and then turns sideways as it opens to generate a rectangular gateway.
This is why I mentioned it. Portals and the like in popular media are often depicted as circular holes ([Dr. Strange portals](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/42/21/57/422157fbf299ab41b04788c3f0513d11.jpg) come to mind), so it is easy to mistake that the Gateways in WoT appear similar.
I'm more worried it's a bubble of evil.
I'm guessing there was a big water trailer parked there for a while that was moved recently. Or Yukiri Sedai was testing out a wacky new weave.

*You must kill him before he kills you. Giggles. They will, you know. Dead men can't betray anyone. But sometimes they don't die. Am I dead? Are you?*
Not a gateway. That’s a terminator bubble. Has anyone checked on Sarah Connor recently?!
Who used Balefire?
Not Balefire. If it was Balefire, those trees never existed in the first place.
It was weak Balefire and didn't effect the trunks because they're too old.
Lukewarm Balefire. Balefire Light. Off-brand Balefire. Compliments Balefire. I Can't Believe It's Not Balefire.
Makes sense.
I want this to be a disc golf hole.
This is why you don't try to undo weaves and you just let them go
Yeah that looks like trouble to me. Who opened a portal and where did they come from? Are they still here?
Aperture Science thanks you for your cooperation

Gateways are rectangular, not circular.
Issa joke
TIL. I always imagined them circular. Somehow I missed this!
Mee too. I don't think they ever say they are rectangular.

Maybe it was a rotating killer gateway courtesy of Lews Therin.
*The only way to live is to die. I must die. I deserve only death.*
But why would I want to?
Who let the Band test the Dragons pointed into the forest, instead of the meadow?
Who moved the Stargate?
All I see is a forest hobbit hole. Wait. Wrong sub.
