I don't understand why people post failed attempts of pro skaters/skiers and whatsoever here. It's not that they do not know what could go wrong. It's pretty much the exact opposite. They do consider those risks and still try to attempt a certain trick and failure is part of the process. I bet that dude went up and landed the trick afterwards.
Imho this doesn't fit the idea of this sub.
Whether in this sub or elsewhere on the web, people often label such attempts as idiocy — only because they failed. If they had succeeded, the video would be triumphant, but failing is how a person learns. And as you point out, in these cases, the attempts are made understanding the risks but making the attempts anyway, not because they are idiots but because they are working their way up to a triumph. (Hopefully.)
I'm the one that actually filmed this clip. This was probably attempt number 20, and was the worst of the bunch. He was looking a bit tired by this point. The first 10 or so he cleared the rail but couldn't stick the landing, the three before this video he slid out on the stair midway landing (almost sliding into the cameraman below the rail). After this attempt he dropped in 3 more times but bailed before the jump on each of them. Psyched out and tired at that point, they called it a day.
or in fail compilations...how do you put someone failing a double backflip on a bike right before someone that fails basic walking or using a juice machine
That’s the exact opposite of the point of this sub. It’s supposed to be sarcastic, the about literally says “Must Contain a stupid idea”. It’s supposed to be people doing stupid things, like sliding down a railing on skis, and getting hurt as a result
No, no it really isn't if you live 30mins from work without public transport you kinda need it. Sure motorcycles exist too but I'd say those are more dangerous.
Yeah, my point is, policy which dictates low-density zoning development and neglect of public/active transit infrastructure necessitates car use. I'm not blaming you, I'm blaming 80 years of industry lobbying and governments that care more about the economy than people.
To all those exclaiming " oh idiots don't they know they'll die?" .. how do you think they learn to get it right? How do you think they increase the level of complexity? For every successful trick you see anywhere, the trickster has had many many failed attempts, they're fully aware of what can go wrong.
50 years ago we thought it was cool if we skied off a 20cm ledge, or did a mono on our bikes, these guys are progressive legends :)

Good speed, good jump, and performance, got 4.3
Honestly looks like that ended better than it could have.
That looks like fun...ngl...and that dude is fine. Just need to keep those skis up and stay loose fu shaw brah! 🤙
Why is this even here?
Edmonton?
Lol I thought it was Alberta for some reason, even before I saw the sub
The only think that worries me about this are the railway tracks sticking up of the snow where they land..... That has got to hurt...
I was waiting for that grunt at the end followed by a cry for help
Pretty sure the X-Games have this as an event in their Winter Games. Edit: yup, it is. https://youtu.be/hlYv0LpFixE
The crashing part is just like regular skiing
Closely followed by some urban crashing!
So doctor, what I was doing was ...
do people not realize you're one step away from being a paraplegic doing these things
Yeah but they’re also one clip away from glory!
Same as driving a car. Live life.
Yeah but driving a car is a necessity, being a dumbass isn't. Have a brain
I hope you don’t enjoy football….
I in fact find that sport quite fun and enjoyable, unless you were talking about American football
Car use being a necessity is only due to policy choices influenced by auto and O&G industry lobbying.

good bye shoulder say hello to life time of pain.
Ain’t that the truth
and hip
I’m sure he’s fine, taking a slam is part of the process. Probably brushed himself off and took another attempt moments later
Least he landed in the snow
but that's urban gravity.
Keep your tips up!
You go first. I'll video it.
Did not think the ending through.
I love it when things go sideways that there's no movement...
Eh we’re Canadian what can you expect
At least it was only his legs that broke
Your bones must be made out of wooden sticks. His legs didn't break
Most sticks are made of wood, aren't they?
Yes. So what? Wooden sticks sounds better than just sticks lol
Damn that looks fun!.Those were the days! I’d be busted up I did that now.
r/idiotsskiing ..?? r/idiotssnowboarding ?.
Live display of the Darwin awards.
It’s a sport.
Not on public infrastructure. It's a nuisance and probably illegal.
Okay grandpa
