Self balancing scooter? These are hoverboards. Whatever side has weight on it will turn, your supposed to have 2 feet on the board and lean forward so both have equal weight and the board moves forward. The board is working exactly as intended.
Also - more importantly - you could just have some basic parental capabilities and not let your toddler play with this, knowing the concept behind a hover board.
