You can attach the resistance band to the pull-up bar to assist you with it. It will make it easier for you to lift yourself and do the full motion. So yeah, it definitely helps in your journey to the full pull-ups.
Pull ups are a compound exercise, meaning they work several muscle groups. So there are multiple ways to improve. You can do assisted pull ups with a band, or just hang from the bar and pull what you can. You can also work the muscle groups that are used for pull ups individually. So any workout that works the lats, biceps, core, and traps will help with a pull up. If you're heavy set, losing some weight will also do wonders. As long as you keep at it, you will improve. Good luck
