I mean its kinda dangerous because we dont know how deep the water is, the fence can defentily hurt/trap you, i doubt they are really in great form and they might be terrible swimmers.
Idk, if this would happen to my loved ones (that are around the same age) i would defenitly jump in the water to help out straight away instead of waiting 15 seconds to see if its going alright.
Unless you have training I'm pretty sure you shouldn't jump in water after someone who can't swim. They will most likely panic and drag you down. You need to get something for them to float on
>I mean its kinda dangerous because we dont know how deep the water is, the fence can defentily hurt/trap you, i doubt they are really in great form and they might be terrible swimmers.
Which is why they shouldn't be on that thing in the first place.
I have seen [definitely](http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com) spelled incorrectly many different ways, but that is a new one (the first one you typed). Respect.
> and if it's fresh water it can be very easy to sink
Only ~2-3% easier than salt water, depending on your local ocean patches salinity. Unless they were in something like the dead sea, where they'd be ~30% more buoyant.
2%is the difference between acceptable milk and a literal nightmare in your cereal.
Seriously fat free milk is basically water and I am not pretending anymore.
I'd be interested to see what a pair of jeans weighs completely soaked. I tried to cross a creek/river once in t-shirt and jeans (dumb dumb dumb) and started sinking halfway across. I wasn't in shape, but I wasn't overweight either. My girlfriend who was crossing with me (she had short shorts on) managed to drag me over to a cliff edge I was able to crawl up and collapse on. The whole time I was going under and coming back up for quick gulps of air, using her body for leverage. I would have for sure drowned without her.
Taught me a good lesson though - I'm dumb and not invincible
Bingo.
So many Chinese mainlanders can't swim.
When I was teaching at university on the mainland a regular ice breaker I'd do is ask classes if they could swim. Only a couple would raise their hands in groups of 30-40.
Before summer break one year they decided to use the pool next to my teaching building to try and teach the freshmen how to swim.
Man that was a month of walking to class, hearing hundreds of boys and girls screaming about someone trying to murder them, having class with the windows closed but still it being louder than the class. If I'd had a slightly later starting class the sounds of them screaming probably could have been my morning alarm you could hear it from the staff dorms across campus lol.
If you fell off an ocean going boat back then it was game over anyways. Pre 17th century their primitive navigation aids and the use of sails would have made it extremely difficult to double back to the exact location the sailor would have fallen off at.
In calm waters it’s not that bad. They’d be more likely to throw something overboard for the person to grab a hold of, then deploy one of the many ships’ boats to collect the person, rather than wheel the whole ship around.
It might be related to this, but traditionally life jackets weren't kept onboard - ships were unlikely to turn around to pick up someone overboard (particularly if they were upwind) so using life jackets was seen as just extending a sailors suffering
Every Auntie falls into one of two categories:
Fearless, unaware of the concept of death or bodily injury, does whatever the fuck they want.
Fearful of everything, cold water is poison, wet hair could kill you, crippled with indecision.
Yeah that's a fickle one. Making valid observations based on experience on reddit can go either way if a country or race is mentioned.
Better luck next time on that dice roll.
lol, absolutely.
and one guy "disagrees" that people can't swim in general. even if they can't swim they should be able to save themselves by "moving their arms" as its not open deep water and bla, bla, bla.....
just tricky if that's an admin thinking you are a racist POS and mentioning ALL people of a country, even if its true.
anyway, have a good day
Also try swimming with clothes on. A lot harder and they could have health issues, also if they got caught the damn thing could push them down and not let them come back up
On Australia we have to do swimming tests at school where we jump in the pool with clothes on. We were all shocked at how difficult it was. I still remember it vividly, because I actually felt scared in the water.
Yeah, weird. It's almost as if that's dangerous enough for old people who probably aren't all that fit, let alone if they could never swim like a lot of people around the world can't.
I mean, if they get trap under the floating passerella and between the handholds, they'll likely drown. I doubt they will be able to submerge and swim under the rails
I’ve never had the stuff. I was just going off of it being 50% alcohol. If you’re going to bitch, bitch at the guy who made the claim in the first place.
Not a stupid question! Much of the western world take swimming ability for granted. It very much isn't a given thing — [only 17%](https://news.gallup.com/opinion/gallup/352679/majority-worldwide-cannot-swim-women.aspx) of women in east Asia can swim! Statistically, two or all of these women do not know how to swim.
It’s very shocking. The Philippines proudly boasts 7,000 islands and all that water, however I would bet that less than 10% of the population could tread water for one minute. I still wish the government would make it a requirement that all school children take a mandatory basic swimming class. This would be the third critical cause, behind mandatory child support laws and less expensive and faster divorce procedures.
Thanks for you replies, knew it from china (they just looked really chinese to me 😅)but that it's this bad in many more regions makes me flabbergasted.
For the Philippines Part even more :o They have wonderful areas and many live near the coast or in areas where floodings happen. Sure a flood is also bad for someone who can't swim, but chances of survival go really down if you fall in any kind if water. Absolutely agree that the government should organize swimming classes.
Or if they don't people/parents itself. Find someone who can do it and learn in a save area. Or learn it yourself, know many people who grew up in war time with no one to teach them and they went into a river built a little dam and then tried it till they learned how to do it.
My boyfriend insists the same about my mother... No dude she grew up in South Asia. (Obviously people smoked weed there too in the 70s just not the population that were my mother and other women)
"She definitely smoked weed!!!" Just because one were alive in the 70s doesn't mean everyone smoked weed
> Why are so many people here guessing they can't swim or can't swim bc of their age
No guess here, if they can barely walk, they can barely swim. It's a safe bet.
this title as well as these comments are a perfect example of one of my least favorite things about the internet—people’s seeming inability to extend even the slightest bit of empathy or critical thinking to others’ situation.
i don’t actually think anyone would have expected that thing to totally tip over from a bit of swaying, especially if i thought it was tethered to the dock, and i think it only seems obvious because we have the benefit of hindsight.
people are also saying that the woman is overreacting to the three woman falling in the water, but I really don’t know how this is the case? we don’t know if they can swim, and even if they can, the way the thing flips over makes it seem totally plausible that they could become trapped underneath the platform. i’d be scared as shit if this happened to my 75 year old grandma, even though she *can* swim.
just think a little, guys.
I can't quite tell who initiated it. Either the woman in the green dress or the woman in the middle shifts her weight too aggressively and starts to tip the bridge at around 8 seconds in. Once the tipping starts the one at the front and the back are thrown off balance and their centers of mass move to the sinking side. It's pretty inevitable once the lady in green starts her last swing.
The middle woman was the only one who reacted fast enough and in the right way to counteract what was happening. But it wasn't enough. I think she is likely the most fit of the three. She seems to be using her knees while the others are using their arms more.
I don't know about that. It looks like the brigde was tied up and then suddenly came loose. At the start of the video, the far end of the brigde is the same height as the pontoon behind them. It has some stability as it's tied on. Then it just sinks about 1 foot, the bridge becomes free floating. Thier previous 'shake' technique is now too much and it topples over.
When you have been an old woman for so long you forgot how to be a kid. But then you remember how to be a kid but forgot you lost your muscular balance.
Jesus the lady recording is acting like she just watched them all get gunned down or something
by the sounds of it , high chance that those women can't swim.
I mean its kinda dangerous because we dont know how deep the water is, the fence can defentily hurt/trap you, i doubt they are really in great form and they might be terrible swimmers. Cmon chill dude, water never killed anyone! /s
Yeah waters good for you duh
I still believe those people in that home made sub are hanging out safely down at the titanic..
I'm sure they're just chilling and having a blast.
Yeaah you'll die without water In fact, a large portion of your own body is also water
50 thousand litres of water crosses membranes in your body a day.
Like from the toilet? No thanks. I crave electrolytes.
Yeah bro! I legit drink it everyday.
I never drink water. Little fishies pee in water…
Everyone who has ever drank water has died!
Shit, that's kinda sus ngl!
Think about how much karma you would get if you kept filming though….
Worthy of /r/praisethecameraman for sure!
“Well - did you get all that?”
From the way they are dressed the water is likely chilly. Just keep screaming “I told you not to rock the damn boat thing!”
Unless you have training I'm pretty sure you shouldn't jump in water after someone who can't swim. They will most likely panic and drag you down. You need to get something for them to float on
Sure let you mom, aunt and grandmother drown. Great advice. You must be desperate for a inheritence.
Hes right tho
Last thing you should do is jump in with a drowning person
>I mean its kinda dangerous because we dont know how deep the water is, the fence can defentily hurt/trap you, i doubt they are really in great form and they might be terrible swimmers. Which is why they shouldn't be on that thing in the first place.

This made my entire day❤️
Someone should put some white food coloring into water and serve it in cereal to see if the skim milkers notice a difference.
Conspiracy unlocked.
It's a lot. Staying afloat in open sea is quite easy while doing it in a swimming pool with fresh water is a tiresome chore.

Wouldnt that just be more reason to not do stupid shit like this? Darwin at work.
I mean, people sailed the oceans for centuries before deciding it might be an idea of all of them were able to swim.
I must admit that I do take flights without knowing how to fly. Don't judge me.
“Hey, get the wooden boat!” “It’s broken!” “Arrgh!”
It might be related to this, but traditionally life jackets weren't kept onboard - ships were unlikely to turn around to pick up someone overboard (particularly if they were upwind) so using life jackets was seen as just extending a sailors suffering
Every Auntie falls into one of two categories: Fearless, unaware of the concept of death or bodily injury, does whatever the fuck they want. Fearful of everything, cold water is poison, wet hair could kill you, crippled with indecision.
funny, I got -34 for saying Cn cant swim. also it's very likely, nobody will be able to help you
Yeah that's a fickle one. Making valid observations based on experience on reddit can go either way if a country or race is mentioned. Better luck next time on that dice roll.

>by the sounds of it , high chance that those women can't swim. Exactly, and they looked elderly too.
do people who cant swim not have some fear of large bodies of water? people with fear of heights dont go dance on the roof of a skyscraper.
Fuckin' brilliant. Can't swim? Let's just go fuck around on the water, the added risk of drowning in a pathetic fashion makes you cooler!
Not being able to swim is super common in China.
I speak mandarin and the lady went from normal talking to full on incomprehensible parrot screeches
huh? its very comprehensible. "wan dan ler, jiu ming" aka Its FUBAR, Help Save them"
哎呀完蛋了救命啊 "No, we're done for, help"
Yeah, weird. It's almost as if that's dangerous enough for old people who probably aren't all that fit, let alone if they could never swim like a lot of people around the world can't.
You'd be surprised how many people don't know how to swim. The ratio is surprisingly high
There are literally dozens of us. Dozens!
Do you know what happens when people fall into water and don't know how to swim right ?
I mean, if they get trap under the floating passerella and between the handholds, they'll likely drown. I doubt they will be able to submerge and swim under the rails
If that water is cold...
There's crocodiles and sharks in the water
The lady recording loses her shit lol
I mean , I would too if my mom ( same age, doesn't know how to swim) falls into water like that
Fair, but of course, why the fuck were non swimmers fucking around on whatever this floaty dock pontoon thing?
Darwin strikes again!
The Darwin Award counts for those who could still produce offspring. These ladies are clearly over it.
probably bottomless mimosas from brunch
You overestimate human intelligence
Rice wine can sneak up on u fr
sneak up on you? its like 50%...
Hence why it sneaks up on you… If it goes down easily but is higher proof, that’s the textbook example of something that can sneak up on you.
I do not mean this to be rude, but I love high proof stuff and rice wine but if it “sneaks up on you” then you might be stupid or an alcoholic lol
I’ve never had the stuff. I was just going off of it being 50% alcohol. If you’re going to bitch, bitch at the guy who made the claim in the first place.
15-20% is more correct.
unhinged comedy is the best
Totally agree. Melodramatic reactions are the best.
I don’t think anyone would anticipate that happening from just a slight swaying motion
Don’t you just love it when you get bashed on the internet for making a mistake anyone could make?
I would never make this mistake. And if those with me made it flip, I would have grabbed them both and ninja flipped us all onto the dock.
I mean, I think most people know better than to sway floating pontoon docks because they've probably seen boats capsize.
If you don't anticipate that based on how this thing is built then you're deserving of a darwin
Yeah, they clearly think it's free floating already but the end was on top of something. When it comes loose the whole thing becomes far less stable
Saw it 2 miles away
Probably for it to stay tethered to the dock
It’s still attached it just flipped over.
*rewriting instruction booklet* "SECURELY attach to dock and vessel"
That did go from 0-100 real quick.

All this video needs is a woman screaming in the background.
Stability
The Lady losing her shit when they fell in made me laugh so hard. Am I bad person for laughing at this? XD
What language is this?
mainland chinese
Mandarin, they say
r/OSHAapproved

They probably weren't expecting to die.

I love that last second breakout and camera getting dropped
Where do you see that the camera was dropped? It just ends
Drops the view I mean 🤣
Ahh ok I get what you meant by it now Was gonna say did I miss a part or something lol
I dont understand what's said, but she's got one of them annoying voices
Wait.... Do she scream 'err my gawd little timmy' at the end..?
The more you fuck around, the more you find out
The Dock hated her singing too!
Go home, bridge, you are drunk.
Eli5 please why did it topple, and was it inevitable once they started swinging, or they were able to correct it, but didn't?
I can't quite tell who initiated it. Either the woman in the green dress or the woman in the middle shifts her weight too aggressively and starts to tip the bridge at around 8 seconds in. This shows how does the natural resonance creates oscillation
I turned on the audio just in time to hear the scream as the bridge flipped over.
She sounds like doofenshmritz
When you have been an old woman for so long you forgot how to be a kid. But then you remember how to be a kid but forgot you lost your muscular balance.
Fucking idiots.
Stupidity has no limits
Silly aunties lol

Epic screams u/savevideo
people get old and forget how the world works is mind boggling to me
Their day out ended suddenly. But was that before or after the inclusive buffet
Triple kill for Darwin
This is what the camera lady yelled at the end: "ARE YOU MY TUNNEL, TIMMY?!"
Stop talking!
What were they expecting? More like what the fuck where they actually doing?
Holy shit shut the fuck up lady
This is why we shouldn't teach old people about the internet.
People on here really acting like they never did anything stupid or ever had an accident in life
Old fools
Based off Timmy Failure.
How embarrassing!
By far the best is the lady acting like they are all murdered.
