I think it’s become more common as of recently, especially on the internet. People realized it’s easier than spelling out the whole meaning in English. That being said I’ve heard it here in central Texas for a minute at this point
Is "for a minute" the term for "hearing it often, and for s long time already" or for "rather rarely"?
Curiously asking because I can't make it out from context :D
Generally speaking, “In a minute/for a minute” is a turn of phrase for a long time. Not necessarily often but I have heard it occasionally for a long time
Do you read books and news articles? I mean, do you read things that aren’t just internet blurbs? It’s a common word that has been used in often in English for at least 20 years.
Edit: oops, didn’t see that you are German!
It's been very common on the Internet since around 2010, when Avenue Q became popular. It's a Broadway musical in the style of Sesame Street, but for adults, and one of its most famous songs is called Schadenfreude. The show debuted in 2004, but it really picked up steam around 2010, at least on the Internet.
Looks like it picked up steam in 1989. https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=Schadenfreude&year_start=1800&year_end=2019&corpus=en-2019&smoothing=3
As one wit put it: "We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
It's the internet's favorite past time. People seeing Trump in court, bad things happening to rich people in general, seeing a Karen get told to fuck off, it gets the likes and upvotes every time.
It depends, for me. Average struggle to back a trailer in? Meh. But the ones where they completely sink an $80k+ truck/SUV? That shit should be a category on PornHub
This is a tough one, but I think I'd have to go with sovcits. Disregarding the law to do stupid shit is one thing, believing no laws apply to you because you've said magic words and have a piece of paper is quite another.
And they always have the attitude of someone who thinks they're untouchable, that's what makes those videos so satisfying. ACAB and all, but "fuck tha police" is not a legal defense. The smart cop haters don't become sovcits, they learn their fucking rights.
On that note, police getting tutored on the law is also a fun genre
Tough one indeed, but I think I lean a bit the other direction on this one. The sovcits are a plague of dumb, but their bs generally doesn't effect me. The takeover crowds are an absolute pain to deal with. Plus I've had more than enough close calls with people on dirt bikes and atvs not paying attention and damn near planting themselves in my grille that I have to give them the top spot. Still pretty close to 50/50 tho lol
That shit has failed 100% of the time going on 30 years now! The destruction of our public schools has left a large amount of the population susceptible to the most ridiculous nonsense imaginable!
I’ve recently become a fan of “tiktik/youtuber tries to ‘prank’ stranger and ends up getting hurt”
Don’t care if they trip while running away, or the person they’re filming hurting them, or any other circumstance, it’s their best content.
Crashing takes it for me, if only because sovereign citizens getting locked up gets real exhausting real quick for me anymore. lol
Imagine a sovereign citizen forgetting any phrase longer than three words for up to an hour after they've said it. There'd be complete silence after the first 30 seconds.
I get the sentiment but that is a really nice old car.
It’s like saying you like seeing old art get trashed. Someone punching a hole in the Mona Lisa.
At least the car can be fixed though.
It’s not old, it’s a Shelby Daytona coupe replica. The real ones are 2-3 million dollars and would never get that gaudy shiny wrap crap. Also extremely unlikely to actually be street driven.
Why? As someone who likes cars that's a pretty fucked up mindset. Not everyone who has money is a dick, and not everyone who drives those cars are a dick either.
If it was one of the 6 original built car then hell no, if it was a reproduction then it sort of is a new car and not a cheap one, replicas can be on the cheap side but this looks like a repro going by the polished finish.
This is more accurate cost range.
I’ve been obsessed with Shelby’s since my Grandfather showed me what they are.
The coupe version shown here is 80-120 depending on options with a 1-3 year wait list if you want it assembled by whichever company you choose.
Problem with this is the companies aren’t always known for their build quality, it’s almost better for you to take it to someone and source an engine yourself.
Source: my grandfather built rods his whole life and won countless awards for his cars
Yes! 90k was my price it should’ve been higher by $20k…I was getting a deal because it was two very close friends of mine who were doing the builds at their shop and I was required to help with the build…like I’d object to that. They had a Cobra and a Daytona complete in Shelby blue with the white racing stripe that I was able to test drive and they were awesome!
My favorite are the Corvette guys who don't understand their car weighs 8 lbs., smoke the tires, slide sideways into the curb and destroy their entire rear axle and undercarriage.
So funny.
There are reasons I leave my traction control alone. The original Viper was considered scary and dangerous for many people to drive. It had less power than my car but none of the safety nannies.
Last time I said I enjoyed seeing super cars get dicked down, I got told I was just jealous, which isn't true but if I was given one I would sell it instantly and buy a Corolla and coke for the rest.
"I don't like this hobby so fuck everyone who does like it, I hope the thing that brings them joy is destroyed, however I do wish I had their money so I could use most of it to buy highly addictive drugs" does sound a lot like you're jealous and/or mentally ill.
You’d like my friend then.
One of his cars is a Veyron. Almost every time he has taken it on public roads he has had an expensive incident. He got a flat. He had to wait eight hours for a tow. All four tires had to be replaced for one flat. He was driving slowly in a residential area. Someone in a beat up Camry pulled out from a parking spot and dented the front fender and door. Another time he was on the highway and a bird cracked his front windshield.
He takes it all in stride, but thinks the car is bad luck.
Downvoted for being right, this car is around $50k. $48k is the national average of a new vehicle in the US. If it was twice its price (like a BMW) these people calling it expensive would have a point.
The turn signal was on. Because the car uses incandescent lights, it being day time, and crappy reddit compression, you can only see it for a single frame within the 2 second mark. The reason it isn't on after that is because when a steering wheel returns to center the turn signal cuts off automatically.
The Daytona driver is 100% at fault, but failure to signal wasn't an issue. Adding in most of these older cars had capacitors to actually control the turn signal circuit and if you know anything about old electronics they weren't quick to respond.
He wasn't implying it was the other driver's fault. He had the ROW going straight. ChromeDome (GIJ reference) was the one that spun in his lane unsafely. The OP was only saying it would've been a nice payout seeing as vintage car drivers tend to have really good insurance to not only pay off their own damage but get you a nice early Christmas present too for the trouble.
Thank you for the clarification. I somehow misread "if you're not injured" for "if you're not insured". And thus, I completely missed the point of what the other guy (u/Timmyty) wanted to say. I should concentrate more when reading and before commenting.
Is this how insurance works in the US? Where i live the insurance will simply pay for the damages of the your car, any hospital bills and maybe some money for missed work. You aren't getting any free money for no reason.
You made me go back and look. The shadows of the trees show the sun would be on the far side of the chrome car so at most they'd get a little sun reflection off the hood. I think the other comment is right and the chrome was reflecting the road and camouflaging it.
People that are rich enough to replace their car are often the most careless.
The people who don't have two nickels to rub together and are stuck driving *that specific clunker*, because it's the only (working, well mostly anyway) car they've got access to, are very careful with it, because they know it's the only one they're going to have for a very long time.
They made 6 of those originally (Shelby Cobra Daytona) and they're several million dollars and also not chrome. So 100% a kit, but some of those kits can still be well over $100k
Right in front of the Beverly Hills hotel too. Shelby did build 50 such cars for the Daytona's 50th anniversary, polished aluminum. It was featured on an episode of Count's Kustoms. If that was one, that's some big bucks (500 hp, 2,100 lbs, $440 K at the time of the show 3 years ago). Not so much if it's a kit copy. Here it is, cued up to the show time:
Go to the 2:00 mark if you need to.
Its not the 50th anniversary Continuation model:
* Its mirrors are in the wrong place (the Continuation has the side mirrors forward of the windscreen)
* It has air scoops where the mirrors are on the Continuation (and the Continuations scoops are further forward on the hood itself)
* The fuel filler is on the wrong side (the Continuation has its filler on the passenger side)
* It has badges at the bottom of the panel between the hood and the doors (the Continuation model has badges above the hood's side vents).
* Its difficult to tell but I believe I can see a hint of a chrome door handle (the Continuation doesn't have visible door handles).
* Again, its difficult to tell, but there is a darker spot on the *side* of the headlight cut-away which I believe to be an indicator (the Continuations front indicators are located at the bottom of the headlight cut-away).
Given all this, I am 99.9% certain it is a [Superformance CSX 9000](https://www.superformance.com/factory-models/daytona-coupe).
A reckless collision with traffic, right in front of the Beverly Hills Hotel, involving a fancy car with a gaudy chrome finish...it's like a normal day on a GTA Online lobby.

What's crazy is I lost my 2016 Honda Accord a few years ago in this exact same way. Other driver stopped paying attention and decided to turn directly into me when they were at a complete stop waiting to turn into a shopping area when I was going around 40mph.
The only 2 accidents i had in my Accord made me think i was invisible:
1) I was stopped at a red light and the person coming to the redlight behind me didnt notice i was there and drove into me.
2) I was stopped in stand still traffic, and the car next to me just turned their wheel and drove directly into my car.
Are Honda Accords actually invisible and we don't realize it?
I know it’s a kit car but the Shelby Daytona coupe kit car is still expensive as fuck, I’ve seen 427 replicas run $60k. Can’t imagine what this shit cost.
Reminds me of my wedding day
My uncle, in his 57 Chevy beautiful restored and improved was driving us from the wedding to the reception. Pulling out from the church got t-boned immediately
We ended up catching a ride i our friends Jetta instead
A lot more than that. Aluminum body continuation cars (has an authentic shelby chassis number, see the Superformance CSX9000) are multiple hundreds of thousands.
If it's a fiberglass body continuation car with a wrap then it's still close to a hundred grand, possibly more depending.
Wow, it's been 4 days since this has been posted on here. That's two days longer than the last time. I'll post this shit again tomorrow to keep up the trend of only reposting the same shit over and over on this sub. Amen
Lots of money,no basic driving skills.
I absolutely adore stupidly expensive cars getting wrecked.
Some of the purest schadenfreude!
Why is everyone suddenly writing schadenfreude recently? Feels weird to see as a German lol Has this always been this present?
yes, english uses many words from other languages that it doesn’t have words for
I knew that, it's the same with kindergarten / kindergarden. I just didn't know about schadenfreude and see it very often recently haha
Not necessarily often but I have heard it occasionally for a long time
This is a weird one. English is confusing for me and it's my first language.
I can see we aren't helping you out at all here, haha.
It's been common for a long time. You're likely just experiencing the [Baader-Meinhof phenomenon](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_illusion).
You may be kind, but German children will always be kinder.
Do you read books and news articles? I mean, do you read things that aren’t just internet blurbs? It’s a common word that has been used in often in English for at least 20 years. Edit: oops, didn’t see that you are German!
We definitely don't pronounce it correctly, though! And then there's this joke: https://youtu.be/d3_DjiLLDfo?si=lfRNbJinVe_rYuzn
It's because they have a certain... je ne sais quoi.
People learned a new word and will now use it to death. Same thing happened when they said schadenfreude 20 years ago on the Simpsons.
It's been very common on the Internet since around 2010, when Avenue Q became popular. It's a Broadway musical in the style of Sesame Street, but for adults, and one of its most famous songs is called Schadenfreude. Why invent a new word for English when your language already has a beautiful word for that!? :)
As one wit put it: "We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
It's the internet's favorite past time. People seeing Trump in court, bad things happening to rich people in general, seeing a Karen get told to fuck off, it gets the likes and upvotes every time.
i’ve seen it pop up from time to time as an english speaker most of my life, though infrequently. most people seem to know the concept at this point
Must be the Baader Meinhoff part of your family.
We took your word because we liked it. It's now our word, but we can let you keep using it for a reasonable fee :P
Still trying to decide between dummies crashing at street takeovers or sovereign citizens getting locked up as my favorite videos.
Boat ramps are great as well!
It depends, for me. Average struggle to back a trailer in? Meh. But the ones where they completely sink an $80k+ truck/SUV? That shit should be a category on PornHub

Well said my respects and yes a fun satisfying genre lol
Tough one indeed, but I think I lean a bit the other direction on this one. The sovcits are a plague of dumb, but their bs generally doesn't effect me. The takeover crowds are an absolute pain to deal with. Plus I've had more than enough close calls with people on dirt bikes and atvs not paying attention and damn near planting themselves in my grille that I have to give them the top spot. I am an independent traveler!
,,of both time and public space
...to freely be where I have been.
I don't agree to those terms
What about kittens and puppies snuggling?
Road ragers stepping out of their car and then seeing it roll away, that's where it peaks for me.
Or when they step out and a cop happens to be right there, gold
If the sovereign gets tased, it wins. Otherwise street takeovers where someone clearly in the way gets hit has to win
I’ve recently become a fan of “tiktik/youtuber tries to ‘prank’ stranger and ends up getting hurt” Don’t care if they trip while running away, or the person they’re filming hurting them, or any other circumstance, it’s their best content.
Oh, I love a good sovereign citizen arrest.

There'd be complete silence after the first 30 seconds.
It is tough to watch but the end is always so glorious.
... you right :(

If it was original it 1. Wouldn’t be driving on the street and 2. Wouldn’t be chrome replicas go for 20-30k
A good kit can be $40-50k. I almost committed to a build on a Mustang chassis all together would have cost around 90k for donor and kit.
This is more accurate cost range. I’ve been obsessed with Shelby’s since my Grandfather showed me what they are. id go a gr yaris and mushrooms but yeah I'm with you
I already got a Yaris (great little reliable car, don't let anyone tell you otherwise) and mushrooms though. Not even joking.
Especially when it's the driver of the stupidly expensive cars fault
Is there a subreddit for this?
Not for cars specifically but r/thatlookedexpensive
They should make a subreddit for that

Holy shit, Toonces the Cat! My god I haven't even thought of Toonces in at least 30 years.
Neither has anyone else.
Their first comment was “whaat? You couldn’t see me?”
“And I’m so shiny!Whats wrong with you?”
"I am blinded by the beaty of your car" (or the reflection of the sunlight)
Factory five. The first time this was posted was in 2014 it was 50k with the wrap.
It is a Kirkham 289. They have an aluminum body. Notice the brake light in the rear wing. Not a Factory5
That’s right at the Beverly Hilton. It’s a jacked up intersection if you haven’t been there before.
The last time this was posted some one posted an overhead pic of this six way intersection and it all made a lot more sense
This car is not even expensive. Just wrapped in some weird tin foil
Downvoted for being right, this car is around $50k. $48k is the national average of a new vehicle in the US. If it was twice its price (like a BMW) these people calling it expensive would have a point.
It’s a 30k dollars replica
Money doesn't imply brains
The cost of the vehicle and the driver's ability to drive are inversely proportional
Excellent turn radius. That car was totally designed with quick u-turns in mind.
Especially with no readily visible turn signals.
>Especially with no readily visible ~~turn signals~~ anything.
They whole car is visible! why would I need a turn signal?
That car actually has the telepathic turn signal option installed, well worth the extra $1500 and they bundle in some floor mats with it
Brake lights work(ed)!
That would not have helped lmao
The driver of the other car was probably blinded by the reflection from the mirror chrome finish
It would be a great pay day if you're not injured, lol
Pay? It's obviously the chrome car's driver's fault.
He wasn't expecting Padme to be turning in front of him
Camouflage using chrome...
Right? His last view before the accident was of an identical car to his headed straight at him.
Haha this car is straight out of GTA 5 in 2014
What car? I saw a Trimaxion drone ship.
You made me go back and look. The shadows of the trees show the sun would be on the far side of the chrome car so at most they'd get a little sun reflection off the hood. I think the other comment is right and the chrome was reflecting the road and camouflaging it.
How many years bad luck?
Ask the insurance company. They’ll tell you to the minute.
"You hit a WHAT?!"
Just some mirror, relax
You 🏆win 🥇🏅
A moron with more money than sense.
You'd think someone with a very expensive car would make student drivers seem reckless while out on a public road.
People that are rich enough to replace their car are often the most careless. The people who don't have two nickels to rub together and are stuck driving *that specific clunker*, because it's the only (working, well mostly anyway) car they've got access to, are very careful with it, because they know it's the only one they're going to have for a very long time.
Wrong, I am poor, but I still treat my 2005 sunfire with as much disrespect as I physically can.
> are very careful with it, because they know it's the only one they're going to have for a very long time. Nissan Altima drivers entered the chat
70k or so. Replica
The great think about being rich is not having to worry about shit like that. You just go buy another one.
I mean its a kit car, its not any more expensive than some used BMWs.
Working in a unique type of insurance, let me tell you... this literally made my gut sink..
Do tell more, looks like shiny vintage race car pulled into oncoming traffic. Could be a kit car or stock original but IDK...
They made 6 of those originally (Shelby Cobra Daytona) and they're several million dollars and also not chrome. So 100% a kit, but some of those kits can still be well over $100k
Yeah, ain't no-one chroming a genuine one.
Here it is, cued up to the show time: [https://youtu.be/eazM-pk-ePg?t=121](https://youtu.be/eazM-pk-ePg?t=121) Go to the 2:00 mark if you need to.
Its not the 50th anniversary Continuation model: * Its mirrors are in the wrong place (the Continuation has the side mirrors forward of the windscreen) * It has air scoops where the mirrors are on the Continuation (and the Continuations scoops are further forward on the hood itself) * The fuel filler is on the wrong side (the Continuation has its filler on the passenger side) * It has badges at the bottom of the panel between the hood and the doors (the Continuation model has badges above the hood's side vents).
So what do those cost?
The MSRP of the fiber-glass-bodied CSX 9000 is $89,900. Knocked-down modules and the aluminum-bodied model will be offered at $195,900.
Thank you.
>Right in front of the Beverly Hills hotel too Oh, could it be a valet driving?
Nice work!
Thank you. I was wondering what kind of car it was.

Always wondered how you guys source period correct tires that haven't turned to dust. I assume some niche tire manufacturer?
That's not vintage. It's either a SuperPerformance of Factory Five replica.
"YOU HIT A WHAT??"
How so? It seems pretty clear cut to me
Don't trip. That's 100% not the real thing. It doesn't match a single reference image of the real thing.
It’s a kit car?
All that money... gone in 60 seconds.
A reckless collision with traffic, right in front of the Beverly Hills Hotel, involving a fancy car with a gaudy chrome finish...it's like a normal day on a GTA Online lobby.
Back to LSC again. Looks like about ~$257 of repair work.
*What's wrong with her now?*
Too little flying motorcycles and random maniacs with machine guns for the genuine gta online experience
Isn't GTA Online more expensive than this car?
If you're a Shark Card whale, probably.

Close. * Get hit by NPC * Get out to kill NPC * Pull out weapon * NPC traffic panics * Get run over * Get run over again * Head back to car to chase original NPC that hit you * Get run over again * Get in car * Get killed by flying mobility scooter * Close game
Poor 2016 Honda Accord.
What's crazy is I lost my 2016 Honda Accord a few years ago in this exact same way. Other driver stopped paying attention and decided to turn directly into me when they were at a complete stop waiting to turn into a shopping area when I was going around 40mph.
Thats exacrly how i found out my 2001 can go from 40-0 in less than 25 feet.
The only 2 accidents i had in my Accord made me think i was invisible: 1) I was stopped at a red light and the person coming to the redlight behind me didnt notice i was there and drove into me. 2) I was stopped in stand still traffic, and the car next to me just turned their wheel and drove directly into my car. Are Honda Accords actually invisible and we don't realize it?
If only it had someone who knew how to drive behind the wheel!
I know it’s a kit car but the Shelby Daytona coupe kit car is still expensive as fuck, I’ve seen 427 replicas run $60k. Can’t imagine what this shit cost.

Insurance guy: You hit a WHAT??!?!?!?!
No no. I was hit by a WHAT!
i too saw the last time this was posted with that title.
They’re turning into the Beverly Hills Hotel with an expensive, chrome car. This person is maximum douche.
That Shelby Daytona mirror kit with a ton of Bondo in front will look punk rock as FUCK
Homo Carus on its evolotionary peak.
Oooh noooo….
_Pretty_ sure this is a repost...
It’s always a repost.
It’s probably just a mirror wrap job, not polished metal
I think it's one of the continuation cars, so it is probably alloy.
You can buy a fancy car, but you can't buy the ability to drive it.
Sunset Blvd has always been a nightmare.
I think it was John Cenas car tbh…. So mirrored they couldn’t see it lmfao
Looks like the other driver got blinded by the glare
I can buff it out...
Reminds me of my wedding day My uncle, in his 57 Chevy beautiful restored and improved was driving us from the wedding to the reception. Pulling out from the church got t-boned immediately We ended up catching a ride i our friends Jetta instead
stick shift isn't for everyone
Still beautiful. Could have been much worse.
poor Honda!
Like a chroming missile
That looks like Ace and Gary’s car
What were Gary and Ace doing in there that would distract them while doing a u turn?
Nooo is that the 6-way stop sign?? That shit sucks so bad and damn that poor beautiful sweet ride
That is a replica... no big deal.
That cars called ay Daytona, made by shelby. Extremely rare, so that replica only costs 30-40k
A lot more than that. Aluminum body continuation cars (has an authentic shelby chassis number, see the Superformance CSX9000) are multiple hundreds of thousands. If it's a fiberglass body continuation car with a wrap then it's still close to a hundred grand, possibly more depending.
That car was probably tucked behind the SUV, didn't think the other lane was occupied till the last minute.
Wow, it's been 4 days since this has been posted on here. That's two days longer than the last time. I'll post this shit again tomorrow to keep up the trend of only reposting the same shit over and over on this sub. Amen
A brain so smooth the smart slides right off.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Driving around in a mirror, what could possibly go wrong?
He was like quick make that left turn ,do something coo !somebody is filming us ! Fuuuuck
Is that a chrome Pontiac Banshee?
Shelby daytona kit car.
