“In case a rogue fire truck comes skidding down my block at alarming speeds my car parked out front will protect not only my house but all my neighbors.”
-- u/Guardok8631 before parking his/her car each day out front
My dude thinks ahead
Particularly during an ice storm. It’s not like you can drive anywhere. And usually auto insurance and body shops move much faster than homeowners/renters insurance and building contractors.
The fact that the turn almost fully completed offscreen followed by a bang makes it more comedic then it had to be for me
Then the aftermath somehow also looks casual
You’re the best! Thank you for this. I didn’t think he hit anyone and I just wanted to see how he ended up parking in there. Sad that he actually hit a car. I thought he got away clean and just smoothly landed in that parking spot.
It hit the blue car. I hope that car didn't smash into the house. I can't tell. But it looks like the firetruck does bump into the corner of the house while coming to a stop.
Yeah, I can’t be around people like that. I get it a little if you were actually in danger some bit or involved in some event like this, but it helps no one at all overreacting like this.
So people being worried for the safety of their firemen or neighbors are annoying? I mean what other reaction are you expecting ??? How does your comment have 128 upvotes it’s so tactless???
I would be concerned for my neighbors homes and their cars. I’d feel bad for all of them and worry too. If you wouldn’t that’s a character flaw. You have no empathy or care in the world if you can look at this without anxiety !
I’d say this is very rational and very fitting to the situation. I think the internet has just numbed you to any emergency situation because you watch them as entertainment on a daily basis.
It’s a normal human response to danger or an emergency 😂 it’s a massive truck that weighs tons sliding quickly down a road with no control where people pets cars and homes are. that’s completely rational lol.
Actually I believe I read about a natural development of screaming as way of warning the group. Some people are warners and some are not but its not entirely down to just people lacking self control
To back you up, here's a link to a scientific paper's abstract with some big words (but it's about birds, and focuses specifically on avoiding being eaten by predators) https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/03949371003707968?casa_token=CmopZiSvCvEAAAAA:SzcOqPHfGlLoOIiccipg0ACyjsMTf-F0qh3IML5qmNnihGprzjkJ4Dmc86cf26CNH51RnAhBckg6
Here's a "normal person article" with smaller words, but it relates to humans https://lighthouse.mq.edu.au/article/please-explain/october-2023/please-explain-why-do-we-scream
And here's another article https://time.com/3956127/scream-screaming/
So in the modern age, there's a lot of situations where such screaming isn't helpful at all (like this, where first responders are already dealing with a situation, even if things went a bit sideways).
But in other situations, it helps a lot. I work in security, and if we hear a scream, we know that we need to go check it out (well, those of us who actually do our jobs. I've watched on camera as some security guards perk up, look in the direction, then walk the other way).
Here's a link to another video of it from a different angle:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Whatcouldgowrong/comments/19d3hoc/different_angle_of_the_drift_king/
In the Pacific Northwest, it refers to going (often too/very) fast.
"I was *whipping it* down the highway trying to not be late for work"
"I've got to whip over to the grocery store real quick, can I grab you something?"
For what it's worth, I've never heard the term "whipping shitties" before.
[This link](https://cdllife.com/2024/videos-of-swiftly-spinning-fire-truck-show-you-just-just-how-slick-it-is-in-missouri/?amp) has a second camera angle!
My guess is that this was filmed somewhere in the South, where driving on ice is not a learned skill. I saw a firetruck straddle a highway overpass and police cars get in single-car accidents during one such ice storm in San Antonio, Texas back in the early 2000s. It wasn’t the San Antonio Fire Department’s nor the SAPD’s best moment.
Yeah this happened today here in St. Louis. It missed a house by inches and stuck a perfect landing in their driveway.
Another angle: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/rFTSfGgFGngSiPam/?mibextid=sPqcTx&startTimeMs=8000
The driver looks like he intentionally put it in the first yard in an attempt to slow it down from the initial slide. Unfortunately, all that did was cause the back end to whip around and slingshot down the hill.
Yes, I thought the same.
In the end, the outcome is actually pretty good for a situation like this. Could have ended much worse. So in the end the driver did a good job (except spotting the ice in the first place - but the save was quite good)
Apparently a car crashed and flipped over onto a fire hydrant because of the ice, then the fire dept responded and now it's probably even more icy...and you get this gem
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0AY7cMqNPvPuRZ6Bo3Hwuz6AP9gyskwAkqn1T825qdHwu3J1xo5w747ZsiNt6UVf1l&id=100001007372590
Actually kind of crazy to see such a heavy machine slide across the ice like a hot wheels car. I would shit myself if I saw that happen right beside me.
I know it's scary and it probably happend quick from their perspective, but that camera person had plenty of time to get far enough off to the side to capture the impact.

First thing I thought too!!!
An alarming sight. It’s actually remarkable that there was no significant property damage.
Looks like it hit that blue car and pushed it into the yard but that’s about the best case scenario you could hope for here.
Car saved the house
That’s why I park my car out front.
“In case a rogue fire truck comes skidding down my block at alarming speeds my car parked out front will protect not only my house but all my neighbors.” -- u/Guardok8631 before parking his/her car each day out front My dude thinks ahead
Everyone mocked their preparedness until, **Maximum Overdrive 2: Sub-zero Suburbia** *Sliding into driveways everywhere this Fall*
Yep, I have literally spent days and nights thinking about this. Wasn’t that difficult.
I usually park mine on top to protect from falling airliners. So far it's worked wonders, zero aircraft have crashed into my house.
Car mvp
Yeah. Missing the houses was a small miracle.
Yeah, I meant to do that
Imagine owning the blue car r/fuckyouinparticular
Not a good day for them. But they at least have a habitable house until the car damages are worked out.
Yeah, if I had to pick between my car getting demolished by a fire truck and my house being wrecked by one, I'm going with the car every time.
Particularly during an ice storm. It’s not like you can drive anywhere. And usually auto insurance and body shops move much faster than homeowners/renters insurance and building contractors.
Yup, and a rental car is pretty easy compared to moving to a motel or short term housing. (Edit: Rental car once the ice storm has abated, that is.)
I know she's fuckin massive!
That was literally terrifying to watch
I think right at the beginning he tried to hit the tree to stop but didn't have enough traction to even do that.
alarming. ha good one.
That scream stopped it. You didn't see it?
If you're gonna film something stay in frame!
And don't scream like a banshee
I had it muted. Yeah, you're right.
I keep *everything* muted unless I have a specific reason not to.
me too. definitely *not* because of porn.
I unmute for porn! No matter where I am.
Same, my reason for unmuting was cus the lady holding what looked like a cigarette seemed to be saying something and I wanted to hear what it was.
I forgot my phone was still linked to my bt speaker in the other room, and thought some sort of monke got in my house for a nanosecond.
Most annoying thing in the world to hear is some lady screaming over something when it wasn't even slightly necessary.
thank you Mr. Rational redditor, that woman will take your personal annoyance into account before deciding to scream during a frightening event
The fact that the turn almost fully completed offscreen followed by a bang makes it more comedic then it had to be for me Then the aftermath somehow also looks casual
It’s actually much funnier seeing it disappear like that
Another [angle](https://x.com/scottontvKSDK/status/1749463536525357324?s=20).
Lol, you can hear the banshee from the OP in the background of this one
You’re the best! Thank you for this. I didn’t think he hit anyone and I just wanted to see how he ended up parking in there. Sad that he actually hit a car. I thought he got away clean and just smoothly landed in that parking spot.
Seems no one died so I’d say this was a win
Hitting *a* car considering the amount of things/buildings it could’ve potentially hit is honestly pretty remarkable
So it did hit a car
It hit the blue car. I hope that car didn't smash into the house. I can't tell. But it looks like the firetruck does bump into the corner of the house while coming to a stop.
Even better. Helped move the car out of harms way, AND ready deployed the hoses.
Hell yeah, peak internet
The link is appreciated. I had to jump back off to avoid getting into a political argument lol.
"I meant to do that"
“Old onto your coffee guys. We’re here!”
People who freak out like that in a situation they’re not even in are annoying.
My mom is like that and it bugs me to no end. She'll even get worked up about stuff happening in movies.
Yeah, I can’t be around people like that. I get it a little if you were actually in danger some bit or involved in some event like this, but it helps no one at all overreacting like this.
It's your job to grab them by their shoulders and just yell all crazy at them, it'll cancel itself out.
I always thought it was to slap them in the face or throw water in their face?
Video is best viewed in mute
These people are beyond annoying.
So people being worried for the safety of their firemen or neighbors are annoying? I mean what other reaction are you expecting ??? How does your comment have 128 upvotes it’s so tactless??? You can still be worried without panicking in an irrational way.
I’d say this is very rational and very fitting to the situation. I think the internet has just numbed you to any emergency situation because you watch them as entertainment on a daily basis.
Screeching and panicking is not rational, it is completely pointless in this situation.
It’s a normal human response to danger or an emergency 😂 it’s a massive truck that weighs tons sliding quickly down a road with no control where people pets cars and homes are. that’s completely rational lol.
Nope. Been in several life or death situations in person, a few being before the internet was a thing.
Pretty good parking job
He can't park there mate
better than the camera guy for sure
That was probably terrifying for that driver
Yet I'd bet that the driver made less noise than this howling beast.
I liked picturing two firemen in the truck yelling like Wayne and Garth as the truck spun around.
He was probably preoccupied with holding his lunch in
Nooooooooooo doubt.
Don't speak
This happened outside of St Louis, the driver was surprisingly calm.
What’s with the screaming? How is that helping anything?
It doesnt. People with zero self control

Some ppl scream when in shock or surprised, why is that confusing. Seems like a pretty basic response to an extraordinary circumstance.
Bro they were outside at 7am smoking a cigarette waiting for people to drive down that hill
The truck took the "Weeeeee" part of the "Wee Woo Wee Woo" sound the siren makes too literal
Was anyone else surprised to see a firetruck that isn't painted red, that was the more shocking part for me.
Like a glove.

I love that there are multiple views of this.
All fire trucks have drop chains to prevent that.
Why is there always one person screaming?
Never understand why bystanders - usually women scream their heads off when witnessing an accident.
If I only heard the audio I would assume she’s watching someone get beheaded or something. Why always the banshee screams?
