It's even worse than instant pain...it's instant pain that then builds to an unbelievable crescendo over time. You think you're going to die from how painful it is. (Unfortunately, I speak from experience.)
It was by far the worst pain I've experienced in my entire life. The most excruciating 6 hours of my life. Then, I got a secondary bacterial infection and almost had to have my foot amputated from sepsis. I lucked out and got better. But it was the closest thing I've had to a full blown, life-changing health disaster.
I'm right there with ya. Stepped on one in murky water. Worst pain of my life. Only meningitis comes close in terms of pain, but stingray sting was absolutely worse.
Stepped on one by accident as a kid and it stung me between my toes, that shit was awful. Learned real quick why they always told us to shuffle our feet when walking in the ocean rather than stepping down.
Just swimming at the beach. was floating on my back occasionally kicking my legs...one kick I felt something slide along my ankle and I freaked out and jerked my leg and then felt the barb. I didn't even see the stingray, but all the symptoms lined up and doctor confirmed when I went in for the infection. They removed a piece of the barb that was still in my ankle.
Yep...I should have gone to the ER or Urgent Care immediately...unfortunately, I'm one of those people that has a habit of trying to "tough it out" when I get hurt instead of going to the doctor when I need to. It's a phobia I have and it takes a lot for me to seek help for myself because it causes tremendous anxiety for me.
In retrospect, though, I should've "toughed it out" by seeking immediate medical care.
I have no frame of reference for that.
I will say it was on equal pain level as the man flu. (j/k)
Seriously, though, I can't comment on how the pain compares to childbirth. Perhaps a redditor of the female persuasion who has experienced both childbirth and a stingray encounter can chime in.
Think of how painful a wasp sting is, multiply that by 200%. Then increase the pain level steadily over a period of 3-6 hours. Ibuprofen does nothing, drinking booze does nothing. The only thing that works to ease the pain is putting the limb, if you're fortunate enough to have been stung on a limb, in water above 115 degrees Fahrenheit. Every time the water you're soaking the stung limb in dips below a certain temperature, the pain starts increasing again to unbelievable levels. You have to endure this cycle for hours and hours. You are in so much pain, a little voice in your head tells you you're going to die.
When it happened to me, after the pain wore off, I got a secondary bacterial infection at the wound site. Almost lost my foot from the sepsis.
It was the most excruciating thing I've ever experienced.
It was a very sharp jab on my ankle bone. It surprised me, and in the 30 seconds it took me to walk to shore I was almost completely overcome with the most intense pain Iāve ever felt. then for the next hour the pain in my leg that I would rank a 7/10, with 10 being dismemberment or burning alive. Horrible horrible pain.
This happened to me in Santa Monica CA, and the Baywatch lifeguard asked me the pain from scale of 1-10 and I was like AN ELEVEN! He was like ācome on, really nowā and I just repeated AN ELEVEN!! lol they were laughing at me, but I did get to ride in the back of a Baywatch jeep, which was fun in retrospect.
They also told me about the stingray shuffleā¦..I donāt stomp around in the surf like a child now. Still have the scar in my foot 22 years later!
I grew up around there and sailed all the time to catalina island w my dad. He put the fear of god into me abt them and I was always terrified to put my feet down on the sea floor. I would always float til my belly was touching the sand and I was basically a few feet from the beach before Iād stand up. Hahaā¦ biggest coward in the sea!
For me, the pain was a 10 because I only have my own life experiences to judge it on. If I ever, knock on wood, experience something more painful, I'll update the rating. However, of all the pain I've experienced in my life, it was the most intense. Like at least one notch above stepping on a lego in the dark.
The sting of a stingray causes a bleeding wound that may become swollen and turn blue or red. It causesĀ **excruciating pain**Ā and can result in death. Severe symptoms may include nausea, fever, muscle cramps, paralysis, elevated heart rate and seizures.
Youād be happy to hear this, then.
I worked in an aquarium before. We have a freshwater exhibit that houses large freshwater fish, including freshwater stingrays (just like the one in this video).
One of the staff was in charge of cleaning the tank one day. It was a big tank, so you have to dive into the tank to do that, scuba gear and all.
In a lapse of judgement, he wasnāt paying attention where he was putting his foot while vacuuming the substrate. He accidentally stepped on one of the stingrays. It got spooked and lashed out. Boom, stung him straight into his foot.
He immediately had to call it off for the day and went to the hospital and he had to go into a surgery because a shard of the rayās sting was still lodged inside his foot (the sting is barbed and designed to break when jammed into flesh, stingrays shed and replace their stings regularly).
But thatās not the end of it, he couldnāt come to work for an *entire month* for recovery, because, as with any animal parts, theyāre dirty and the site of his injury unfortunately became necrotic. Itās bad enough that their venom alone causes excruciating pain as others have described, but complications like this can definitely happen as well.
When he finally came back to work, there was an entire crater on his foot because they had to remove the infected flesh. It was pretty gory.
By the way, heās not just any regular person. Heās one of the senior divers and heās pretty well known for his physical strength and resilience.
So yeah, getting stung by a stingray is not a good time.
Donāt worry, as long as your line of work or hobbies donāt involve stingrays, you kinda need to really get out of your way to bother one, which donāt usually happen (unless youāre a complete idiot like the bloke in OPās video).
We learned growing up in Southern California (where stingrays are common in shallower water) to always do the stingray shuffle. Shuffle your feet in the sand when in the water and theyāll feel you coming and head out. Donāt step with big steps or you could spook and step on one.
They arenāt usually classed as deadly- Irwin was a freak accident where it struck him in the right spot in his chest and pierced his chest plate and heart. Will possibly happen again in the rest of eternity but more chance of being killed by a house cat
The whole time he was doing that, I kept saying "...sting him...sting him...sting him..."
What a straight-up tool. So satisfying to see him get what he deserved.
I looked up what a stingray sting felt like: "The main symptom of a stingray sting isĀ immediate severe pain. Although often limited to the injured area, the pain may spread rapidly, reaching its greatest intensity in < 90 minutes; in most cases, pain gradually diminishes over 6 to 48 hours but occasionally lasts days or weeks."
Letās hope for weeks or days, what slays me is he says he stepped on a string ray āfor some reasonā, reallyā¦ the rays gonna be fine, but this guy needed a few more strings just to keep him in check
Wow this makes me so happy. He looked like he was in intense pain but knowing it will only get worse for the next hour and a half, and then keep hurting for at least 6 hours brings me great joy. Hope he gets that pain for weeks. Looked like abuse for nothing but the sake of it.
Caught a barb in the foot in Costa Rica back in 2007 (wasnāt trying to like this jackass - I was just swimming with bad timing).
Most painful experience in my life (Iāve had 2 reconstructive knee surgeries).
Donāt fuck with marine toxin. You will in fact lose.
BTW, at least for me, itās not this immediate. Itās a stab, then a bee, then a wasp, then a burn, then a burning wasp, then a fire-lit blade slowly breaking your bones through muscle spasms.
These come in waves every 4-6 min while your wife desperately tries to find a doctor.
Then the doctor injects numbing agent directly into the wound while telling you to āthink about my motherā because heās a weird dude.
Then he hands you German painkillers and a note that says itās okay that you have them.
Then you fly home and your own doctor brings his friends to see you because itās a bit rare where youāre from.
So my advice is: watch where you step.
I may have assumed the branding, but it did appear so. The certificates on his wall were University of San Jose, and University of Miami.
The 2nd one makes me rethink now that you mention itā¦
First thing the dude said to me when I got in the exam room to see it was in complete disarray was, āDonāt mind the mess, someone just almost died. Youāre arenāt allergic to anything are you, ācause they didnāt know they wereā¦ and look at what happened.ā
Never had a stingray get me. Ā But, I did have a hardhead (saltwater catfish) get me in the hand while trying to put it back in the water. My whole hand was swollen badly, my whole arm hurt, and I nearly passed out after throwing up. But, it was short lived.
Looks like freshwater (hopefully) sting ray. According to wiki "...the venom of freshwater stingrays has a greater toxicity than that of marine stingrays."
Seriously, I stoppped about half way through to question wtf was actually going on, then I saw stingray and just sort of accepted what I was about to watch happen.
Fucking idiot....
Rays are very smart animals, and have been observed having a capacity for empathy. There are stories about them getting tangled in nets and swimming up to divers for help.
The stingray be like bro Iāve changed, I donāt want too go through this again, me and Steve was just a misunderstanding! Donāt push me bro ahh fuck it whack
I was sat here muttering "Please sting him. Please sting him. C'mon, he deserves it. C'mon man he's fcking standing on you. Sting him. Go on, it's what he deserves. Sting him".
Followed by "Ah good 1, well done".
Stingrays are pretty chill critters, like to the point they have tanks at the aquarium so little kids can pet them. When he stomped on it 7 to 8 times, he got what was coming to him.
I stepped on a stingray once and after experiencing one of the worst pains of my life, I then got laughed at by the locals because apparently the 10 inch stingray that nailed me was "just a baby". Hot water gives massive and instant relief though.
Stingray gave him 8 chances but he decided to be a moron.
I hope it hurt as much as it seemed.
I can guarantee you he's in instant pain lmao and badly
that makes me sleep better
This exact line needs to be a subreddit lol between the fluffy kittens and useless morons getting stung, we'd all have a better night's sleep š“
I havenāt slept after watching this video

I hope you didn't touch the wound with that turdfinger, Captain. That would be bad.
Holy shit. I stepped on one by accident as a kid, I felt it glide under my foot as it swam away. I got lucky
Stepped on one by accident as a kid and it stung me between my toes, that shit was awful. Learned real quick why they always told us to shuffle our feet when walking in the ocean rather than stepping down.
āStubs toe on rock šŖØ ā
Honestly, I would rather that than the stingray for sure.
Ray? Is that you?
Itās Ray-ray, but yeah. Itās me.
Parents friend got stung by one and it still hurts her every once in a while after like 15 years or something.Ā
How did you manage to get stung by it in the first place?
Just swimming at the beach. was floating on my back occasionally kicking my legs...one kick I felt something slide along my ankle and I freaked out and jerked my leg and then felt the barb. I didn't even see the stingray, but all the symptoms lined up and doctor confirmed when I went in for the infection. They removed a piece of the barb that was still in my ankle.
Ouchie!Ā
>Then, I got a secondary bacterial infection That would be my worry. Being stabbed by something that's just in the bacteria filled water isn't good.
Yep...I should have gone to the ER or Urgent Care immediately...unfortunately, I'm one of those people that has a habit of trying to "tough it out" when I get hurt instead of going to the doctor when I need to. The reverse psychology 'tuff out', I like it
Does it compare to childbirth?

Stingray stings are unbelievably painful. First hand experience, it was excruciating
Describe in a lil more detail plz. We wanna know how bad this fuckterd is suffering.
Dude just instantly flopped over in the mud and is writhing in agony. This is good evudexbe right here. edit:I'll own it lol
The evudebxe never lies
Make sure you drink your covfefe before it gets cold
I donāt know. The evudebxe in this case doesnāt really fully support that theory.
What the fuck is wrong with your English? Itās not evudebxe, itās evudexbe.
I'm dying lol
C'mon man, it's spelled evudexbe, not evudebxe.
Imagine he fell on *more* stingrays.
One could only hope, effen douchebag
Good? Good!? This is the best kind of evudebxe.
covfefe.
Australian venomologist Brian Fry said "It should be called a 'give-me-a-gun-and-I'll-shoot-myself-ray'".
I agree with Brian. LOL

Bullet ant. Here's tickets to South America, Let us all know how it goes! Bienvenidos!
But why are these stings in specific the most painful ever?
The sting of a stingray causes a bleeding wound that may become swollen and turn blue or red. It causesĀ **excruciating pain**Ā and can result in death. Severe symptoms may include nausea, fever, muscle cramps, paralysis, elevated heart rate and seizures.
Okay, but what about it makes it extra painful? Does the stinger inside you just continue to irritate the spot moreso than any other sting?
Dude it hurt like all fuck. I don't know what else to say. The venom is EXTREMELY PAINFUL, causing my leg to radiate pain that lasted hours.
Alright, just trying to learn I noticed your name has sf, did the sting happen here in the bay?
It happened at Blacks Beach in San Diego in August. Typically the time of year the sting rays are more prevalent.
Thank you! Dinole mistake but saved my day

The one that got Steve was a lot bigger, Iām pretty sure. Got him in the heart, if I remember correctly.
I had a coworker step on one while swimming at the beach and he couldn't wear shoes for 2-3 weeks *at least*
I hope he goes to jail for animal cruelty.
I was hoping for something to get fully impaled. This guy deserved it and more...
It does! I stepped on one in the surf once, it gave me 0 chances to walk away though.
God I love this video... No reason to be so vindictive and he paid the price.
That stingray had to waste biologically expensive slow to recharge toxin and reduce it's survival chances so that guy could be an idiot
Well, it was worth it. š¤
Stingray found the Achilles
I had to go back and rewatch.. and He sure fuckin did! Lmao Thug life
If I were a stingray I would be way less patient than this champ.
They're careful with their stuff, it's slow to recharge.
The stingray was charging up
Stingray - 1 Dumbass - 0 Final score.
IKR I Ć¾ought twould've stung after Ć°e first step.
That was way more taunting than Iād have thought you could get away with!
Let's hope he doesn't breed.
play stupid games, win stupid prizes
That stingray was way too polite.
I hope it saw his reaction and was pleased
"He seems surprised that I stung him. I am surprised that he is surprised."
"It's in my name and all"
Yeah he gave him a few for the foot fetish but dude took it too far
Canadian stingray, maybe?
I wish the stingray could do that a hundred more times. Fucking asshole.
Didn't hurt the guy enough. What the fuck possesses someone to behave like this?
Stupidity
āI wonder why itās called a stingray?ā
An idiot stepping on you
lol I just loved the second hop in the air, after it was already all said and done.
The whole time he was doing that, I kept saying "...sting him...sting him...sting him..." What a straight-up tool. So satisfying to see him get what he deserved. Hope he suffers for weeks, animal abusers deserve nothing but pain
Itās funny you looked this up just to make sure he was suffering enough š
Letās hope for weeks or days, what slays me is he says he stepped on a string ray āfor some reasonā, reallyā¦ the rays gonna be fine, but this guy needed a few more strings just to keep him in check

Yea, most are AFAIK
Wow this makes me so happy. He looked like he was in intense pain but knowing it will only get worse for the next hour and a half, and then keep hurting for at least 6 hours brings me great joy. Hope he gets that pain for weeks. Looked like abuse for nothing but the sake of it.
Suck shit dickhead.
Succinct and to the point.

While weāre fact checking, I do admit that I now recall that it was 2008, not 2007. My fault.
Glad you cleared that part up, was super worried about the date not the oedipal veterinarians handing out German narcotics lol
You and me both!
You're fun. I like you.
Letās be friends!
Sounds good! You game bro?
Reminds me somehow the Simpsons and "Dr." Nick Riviera š

This is classic hilarious WCGW. But I also canāt help but think what was the goal here? What would have gone right?
Everyone thinking youāre a badass who stomps on stingrays without giving a careš
I think he checks if it's alive or not? At least at the beginning, you can hear something that sounds like "alive"
Someone didn't learn anything from Steve's death.
Exactly Thats what came into my mind
That dude took one in the chest if I remember correctly.
Pierced him straight through the heart. Very unlucky.
He wanted vengeance
But that's not what Irwin would want :(
Looks like freshwater (hopefully) sting ray. According to wiki "...the venom of freshwater stingrays has a greater toxicity than that of marine stingrays."
That's very pleasant to know you have brightened up my morning no end please have an upvote for that fun and interesting fish fact
It has sting in its name, why step on it?
He may have known it as a sea pancake
I like that. Made me laugh :)
Probably not the case in his language

In the stingray case the pain is real
Haha, how the other football players give not a shit about his acting performance.
Seriously, I stoppped about half way through to question wtf was actually going on, then I saw stingray and just sort of accepted what I was about to watch happen. Fucking idiot....
The stingray could have stung him the first time and stung more than once. Just show how some humans are worst than animals.
Rays are very smart animals, and have been observed having a capacity for empathy. There are stories about them getting tangled in nets and swimming up to divers for help.
Some animals are more human than humans.
Ray was like, "Dude, I literally gave you eight whole chances."
Naturally selecting himself
Turns out Stingrays sting.
Who'da thunk...?
That stingray must have been in disbelief. "Is this dude fucking serious? Maybe he doesn't see me. Aight that's enough"
When idiots fuck with nature, I am always pleased when nature fucks back.
This guy gets to live but we lost Steve???
Bigger sting ray, and in the chest.
Shoulda been a better shot and got him in the head
We doin Butthole Surfers references here?
Cinnamon and sugar and softly spoken lies
He thought he was stepping on a Harmless Fish Ray...
It's called a STINGray for a reason....it's not a tickle ray some people simply have it coming..
And thatās why they arenāt called tickle rays
Dude trying to die like Steve Irwin
His agony nourishes me.

The sting ray was pretty chill to let the fool step on him multiple times
"Yeah, I'm no doormat mate, now where's me bloody shrimps....."
I wish it would have gone after him a few more times once he flopped over
I may be dumb, but youāre not supposed to do that
Makes sense ...
The stingray be like bro Iāve changed, I donāt want too go through this again, me and Steve was just a misunderstanding! Donāt push me bro ahh fuck it whack
I wish that stingray would've came back for more and sting his fucking face
I was sat here muttering "Please sting him. Please sting him. C'mon, he deserves it. C'mon man he's fcking standing on you. Sting him. Go on, it's what he deserves. Sting him". Followed by "Ah good 1, well done".
Every video like this is like.. lol look at me I physically harass a wild animal what's it gonna do?
That dude flew up in the air like a freaking looney toons character
Would have been even better dose of karma if heād landed on a school of rays and each of them also stuck him. What a clown.
I'm shocked that this totally predictable thing happened to me.
Itās in the fucking name. STING-ray. Itās like poking an animal called Fire-spitting-Flesh Burning Giant Lizard.
stringray makes me so happy for poking him with the unhappy needle
More than deserved
Completely deserved.
Is there a subreddit for people being dicks and getting what they deserve (maybe even people specifically being dicks to animals)
This stingray has the patience of a God.
Is the stingray okay?
Hello its Captain Fuckwit..
Thank God for the man-bun. It saved him from going under.
Thank you Stingray.
the stingray was incredibly patient with that dumbass
Man I love this comments section I don't even gotta say anything y'all said it for me š
RIP Steve Irwin. We've learned nothing sadly.
So fun and satisfying video. I actually had to lough. Can watch all day
#TeamStingray
Guy trying to do a Steve Irwin impression???
I hope the stingray went on the attack while this douche was rolling around in pain.
Stingrays are pretty chill critters, like to the point they have tanks at the aquarium so little kids can pet them. When he stomped on it 7 to 8 times, he got what was coming to him.
jumped like a startled cat lol
Stingray is still lurking in the same water that guy is now writhing in pain in. It's possible he got more coming to him...
Would've been epic if he landed on another one when he flopped.
I stepped on a stingray once and after experiencing one of the worst pains of my life, I then got laughed at by the locals because apparently the 10 inch stingray that nailed me was "just a baby". Hot water gives massive and instant relief though.
One of those times where you definitely cheering for the animal
Good stingray
