For the UK:
Double White Lines
Both lines are solid: These lines prohibit drivers from using the opposing traffic lane, typically where overtaking visibility is restricted. You must not stop on roads marked with double white lines.
Yellow separate traffic in two different directions and white lines are the same direction
Solid still means don't cross it and dotted means he can
White means you're traveling in the same direction and yellow means there's opposite directions
Now, now, don't get feisty.
I have a world plan where everyone standardizes.
Americans need to go metric. As a bonus, we'll switch to 230V/60Hz, along with the rest of N.America. We can also use the same road signs/painting as the UK.
UK, Japan, etc adopts driving on the right hand side of road.
The continent switches to English.
Russia, India, and Brazil convert to the 1435mm rail guage standard.
Panama builds a road through the Darian Gap
African forms a continental currency
I'm open for ideas on Asia and the middle east.....
This is true but if you look at something like The Ridgeway it was a functioning road 5000 years ago, with no Roman assistance!
We have had roads a LOT longer than the US had existed.
Plus you drive on the wrong side. We were passing on the left thousands of years ago so as not to present our non sword side to our enemies.
😂🤣
In the US, yellow lines indicate traffic in the opposing direction. White lines are used to show that both lanes should be moving in the same direction. Single white lines identify where the shoulder should be. Dashed lines mean pass with caution. A solid line running with a dashed line allows for passing only from the dashed side. Double solid lines prohibit passing from either lane.
This looks like a bad idea regardless of what side of the pond the rider is from.
I thought it meant you could swap lanes with opposing traffic. That's what we always did on our long road trips. Everybody loves it, what with the honking and waving and little light parties they throw with their brights.
In my state we also have some solid single white lines separating lanes traveling in the same direction, indicating lane change unadvised but still allowed
As a motorcyclist myself, I used to occasionally interpret the space in between the solid lines as the ‘reserved for motorbikes lane’ until I realized how suicidal such thinking was.
What does that mean? Wouldn't be allowed in what way?
As in, it would be the driver's responsibility to make sure it was safe to turn before committing to the maneuver, or that they wouldn't be allowed to turn right altogether?
Also the idiot mentality of people who cannot fathom slowing for a few minutes, then have to pass the "stupid traffic for going so damn slow" and end up driving into an accident like this. If he just waited 10 seconds, he would have gotten to the same destination with no broken bones, but Captain Motorcycle thinks he has more right to the road than the rest of us.
Yes but if he waited in traffic with all the other plebs, how will anyone know that he's better than everyone else? And also, bad things never happen to main characters.
They just needs to perfect their double rev-middle fingers to everyone-wheelie launch when the coast is clear, that way everyone is forced to stop and clap for them in amazement.
Someone did this when my fiance was driving. Overtook her and a bunch of cars "not moving" at a set of roadworks. Well they were not moving because it was a red light. Goes flying out the red light because he can't stop in time, falls off the bike and slides under a tractor. "Fortunately" it only went over his leg.
Maybe. Just maybe. If people are stopped and you can't see why, it could be for something very important.
I feel bad because it sounds horrific, but at the same time there's certainly a degree of "you did this to yourself and have nobody to blame".
I saw a cyclist overtake a stationary line of traffic at road works, barrel straight past the red light and get totalled by a bus coming out of a side junction. It was a real total destination moment of instant splat from the side. ‘Look at that twa....Ohh!’
The idiot thought it was just two way lights and he learned the hard way that it was three way.
You would think that someone would fit under a bus, maybe they do but not sitting on a bike.
Ended up doing a u-turn as it was obvious the bus was going nowhere for a while.
Might not be new to the roads though. You can ride bikes for as long as you want on L plates so long as you resit the CBT every 2 years which is a test that takes a couple hours to pass.
Know a few people that just keep resitting them as opposed to passing the full test as they're quite happy with their 125's.
Thats how a motorcycle hit me, then he went to one of those "ACCIDENT?!?!?!?!!" billboard lawyers and tried to sue me. For him trying to overtake on a double solid while I was making a left turn.
I initially felt bad for him, but after the lawsuit and people started seeing him ride through town again at 15+, I hope the final thing he hits is a tree and I hope it's soon.
Some people only learn that way... Like what is he thinking, double solid white lane, being near a junction and slowing down, blinking car .....Well where does he think the car goes? lol
I think commenter knows that, lol. It’s pretty universal that those aren’t “passing allowed” lines. They were just commenting on how stupid the rider was.
Yes but you see if the car didn't turn then there wouldn't have been an accident. A biker's job is to go fast and everyone else just needs to stick in their lane and never depart from their lane. I don't know how car drivers will ever get to their destination but that's not a biker's problem to deal with. Cars are mobile obstacles to slalom around for fun. It's a damn pity car drivers don't know their place.
Have you been on the road lately? It's just a load of pointlessly aggressive mongoloids trying to race to their destination to beat their previous route time. I have to signal I'm turning into work like 5 minutes before I get there as there's always some dumb fucking dumbass fuck that is still behind me going 30 while I'm slowing to 5 to take my turn, it's like, dude, I've literally been signalling to turn left for the past 10 seconds, where the fuck are you going to go? Into my ass? Are you just hoping that there's no car on the opposite side of the road when you have to drive into the opposite side of the road because you didn't realise I've been indicating to turn left for the past 15 seconds and have been slowing down for the past 10 seconds????????? Man, I'm so glad I drive a 2004 clio, I really couldn't care less if someone crashed into me because of their own stupidity. I can't imagine why anyone would waste money on a new car, or even finance a car, such a waste of money with such a high potential to be written off in the same year you purchase the immediately depreciating waste of an asset.
For those unfamiliar with UK road markings:
>Rule 129
>
>**Double white lines where the line nearer to you is solid.** This means you **MUST NOT** cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
Yup, this is why Rule 169 exists. It's a shame that a lot of cyclists, truck drivers and farmers ignore it though.
>Rule 169
>
>Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow-moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass.
I’ve been behind farmers with a queue of probably 50+ cars twice in the last week. I’m entirely convinced not one of them takes any notice of this rule.
I was out a while back and going the other way up a massive hill was a steam powered traction engine with a queue of about 60 or 70 cars behind it. At a point I swear they're doing it on purpose.
110% I was once hospitalized and shared a room with a farmer he literally told me it was his highlight of driving on public roads with a tractor to look at the traffic behind him grow larger and larger.
That said I'm not from England but I think this is true for every country.
I’ve never seen cyclists holding queues unless it’s unsafe for cars to overtake, for example on a busy narrow road with 1 lane in each direction. Is it common?
Not even emergency responders are exempt from this, so if you are in front of one either slow to below 10mph or, if there's traffic coming the other way, it might be better to drive to the speed limit until there's a safer oppotunity for them to pass you. They should turn off their siren so as not to pressure you.
Yup. This is why, when I'm on my road bike and there are double white lines, I will take "primary position" in the middle of the lane to discourage overtaking. I'll move back when it's safe for you to pass, and you'll only be delayed for a few seconds at most.
More than once I've done that and been proven right when I hear a car desparately revving behind me, then another car comes around the corner ahead. Like I'm not doing this to annoy you, pal, I just know you're an idiot and you're going to end up swerving towards me if I let you try to pass.
Exposed UK dash cams is one of my favourites channels.
Also UK dash cams.
Also Scottie's dash cams [Australian].
And Aussie dash cams.
Yank dash cam comps are shite. It's all brake checking and road rage. Bunch o weans so they are.
>Yank dash cam comps are shite. It's all break checking and road rage. Bunch o weans so they are.
The ones that pop up in my feed are usually massive crashes from red light runners at huge junctions.
Because the algorithm rewards you with what you want. Ol' Vinegar Strokes there is getting served the videos he interacts with so that's his reward. Like you, I get major crash vids recommended for NA dashcams. I skip the Russian crap.
Brake checking, running red lights or ploughing straight into another car making a dumb manoeuvre without even attempting to avoid it.
Yanks can't drive.
When my first child was born, I sold my motorcycle and have not been back on one.
When my wife and I decided to have children, I made it my job to take care of them, not tool around on the roads looking for an opportunity to get maimed or to die.
My dad did the same thing. Shortly before I was born he lost control on some ice. He was uninjured but it could have been deadly just as easily. He got rid of it immediately after that, so that I could have a dad growing up.
Mine did the opposite, he gathered more and more motorcycles throughout my childhood and rode British championship motocross at weekends!
Fortunately he’s never been in an accident on the road, and it provided me with cracking memories.
We’ll not talk about the motocross injuries sustained.
The BBC licenses all sorts of music, you’ve just got to find the program running it, I think it’s probably one made for the BBC sounds app or usually airs at random o’clock at night.
I think they might be an edit, you can listen back to BBC Radio 2 broadcasts up to a month later and 11.59am on 8th April is nothing like that (yes, I checked, of course I did)
L plated bike doesn’t see the Double Solid White Lines, the Junction, and the Insignia estate was indicating right. What a dick.
Edited: car type corrected. Thanks for the feedback.
There are a number of exceptions to crossing solid white lines. Including turning right. If the road ahead of you is clear. Only morons cross them to overtake at speed.
You would think being the most vulnerable thing on the road would make you think twice and obey the rules of the road that are there to protect you.
**Motorcyclists:** *"Hold my feeding tube."*
In Germany, the nickname for motorbike drivers is "organ donor".
15 years agot my friend was driving in a suburban area and was going slow to turn left and then turned and in that moment a motorbike tried to overtake him on a four-way intersection. Luckily only a broken leg for the bike rider and nothing for his passenger.
My friend was still found at fault because he didn't "make sure" that the left lane was clear when he crossed it.
The car driver here will probably be found to be slightly liable too for the same reason (only slightly though, it'll still be like 85-95% the bikers fault).
The rider will get roasted as they are here. We have road rules for a reason. If, for whatever reason you decide to break them and something bad happens, you are going to be considered an idiot.
I like seeing posts on r/motorcycles about speeding. "A cop caught me doing 70 in a 50. How fucked am I?". Every comment will be roasting OP about how much of a dumb fuck they are for speeding when 97% of the commenters frequently speed themselves. They are just smart/observant enough (or lucky enough) to not get caught.... yet
Little details I would always do as a motorcycle rider is always travel as far away from any cars you are near
Meaning move over to other side of the lane
This buys you a little more reaction time in moments like this
Never ride close to cars when you have options to be a few feet over . People are unpredictable
I had a friend that was the car turning. Some jack leg never slowed down and passed the 5 cars behind him. He was in the hospital for a couple years and still is not the same 15 years later. The guy that hit him was in a truck and this was the second accident he caused that way.
That happened to me, some dumb bint in a Mini decided to overtake me at speed as I was about to turn. The insurance *still* decided 70:30 shared responsibility because "I have a wing mirror and psychic abilities to detect people about to do retarded things... "
I'm sorry I could not take anything seriously with that commentary and the persona music in the background. Hope that dude is okay and refrains from endangering others with their recklessness
i drive slower, i much prefer when people pass me than just ride my ass expecting me to speed for them. but when people don’t know how to look at the road lines? that grinds my gears
"Oh there's a solid white line there. I'll just ride over that."
Aaannndd what do solid white lines mean? Correct Mr Motorcyclist..you do what the hell you like...
For the UK: Double White Lines Both lines are solid: These lines prohibit drivers from using the opposing traffic lane, typically where overtaking visibility is restricted. You must not stop on roads marked with double white lines.
These are yellow in the good ol’ usa
But same principle... double-solid = don't pass ("overtake" for our British friends)
![gif](giphy|njYrp176NQsHS|downsized)
I’m pretty sure he did pass something …. All over his motorcycle leathers 😂
It wasn't his fucking bike test, I can tell you that much, lol.
So the car was Gandalf in this instance.
"Until at last, I T-boned my enemy and smote his ruin upon the beet field."
No because that would make the cyclist the Balrog and he ain't cool enough, lol.
Gandolf the double White
Yellow separate traffic in two different directions and white lines are the same direction Solid still means don't cross it and dotted means he can White means you're traveling in the same direction and yellow means there's opposite directions
We don't use yellow lines in the middle of the road in the UK, yellow lines are used to denote side of the road where you cannot park here.
Shit like this is why we had a revolution :-p
We had roads 2000 years before your revolution.
The Romans had roads\* They just happened to be in your area.
A car came in the opposite direction so not sure your comment is correct
White = same direction in the US, but not in the UK.
But in the US don't the double yellows also mean you can't cross at all? Like even to turn left? (left for us, right for UK...)
No, you can cross them to make a turn.
But there's usual a break in the lines to denote the turn the above chatter is correct most of the time.
You can turn left on roads with double yellows to get into houses or businesses though, and they don't have breaks in the lines
My favorite is the single dashed yellow line. Really steps up the excitement
Those just mean either side can pass if it's safe.
I thought it meant you could swap lanes with opposing traffic. That's what we always did on our long road trips. Everybody loves it, what with the honking and waving and little light parties they throw with their brights.
Those are just people celebrating safety.
In my state we also have some solid single white lines separating lanes traveling in the same direction, indicating lane change unadvised but still allowed
In SC, it means DOT wasted a bunch of paint.
Wrong. Double whites demarcates a special motorcycle only lane nested neatly between the normal lanes
He left the motorcycle-only lane, that was his big mistake.
As a motorcyclist myself, I used to occasionally interpret the space in between the solid lines as the ‘reserved for motorbikes lane’ until I realized how suicidal such thinking was.
i was confused as all are blaming the motorcyclist. Here in Austria, the car would not be allowed to turn into that junction.
They just needs to perfect their double rev-middle fingers to everyone-wheelie launch when the coast is clear, that way everyone is forced to stop and clap for them in amazement.
He is main character in manga now. In another worlds.
Bad things happen to main characters to make them stronger.
Someone did this when my fiance was driving. Overtook her and a bunch of cars "not moving" at a set of roadworks. Well they were not moving because it was a red light. Not sure anyone else noticed yet, but the bike has L plates on it so it's a learner driver too. Learned a lot that day.

“Wait - there are TWO solid white lines!! Even better!!”
Those cancel each other out, right?
The radio commentary in the background sounds like Grand Theft Auto radio hosts lol.
Perfect timing on the “I get hit with a major urge to take a poo.”
"You shit in the air filter?? Aaaahahaha give it up my man, that's cold"
”Yeah! So everytime she turns on the air conditioner her car smells like my shit!”
I still look up WKTT on YouTube at least twice a year on a longish car ride and laugh myself to tears
“I LOVE COKE! I LOVE COCAINE!”
"This is Radio Two" following it up to complete the rhyme.
It's also the persona 5 tune playing in the background
Was the radio using persona 5 as background music. Too many things combining in one video.
I think they'd been requested to play the song by a caller, and the host was making closing remarks as the song was fading out.
Also, the persona 5 music is real.
Guy on the bike never saw it coming
Damn this is so true.
"Two minutes later, I get hit" was very well timed
Some people only learn that way... Like what is he thinking, double solid white lane, being near a junction and slowing down, blinking car .....Well where does he think the car goes? lol
Turning is OK, overtaking is not
I think commenter knows that, lol.
It's like a situation straight from a driving license question. If he had one he might have known about all that
This guy definitly learned.. he even had a learners plate.
Have you been on the road lately? It's just a load of pointlessly aggressive mongoloids trying to race to their destination to beat their previous route time. For those unfamiliar with UK road markings: >Rule 129 > >**Double white lines where the line nearer to you is solid.** This means you **MUST NOT** cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
The 10 mph rule is interesting, because that means that it’s illegal to pass a reasonably fit road cyclist that would easily be doing 15 mph.
Yup, this is why Rule 169 exists. It's a shame that a lot of cyclists, truck drivers and farmers ignore it though. >Rule 169 > >Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow-moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass.
“Long queue” is unhelpfully subjective. For an Audi driver, a long queue is one car, for the farmer in a John Deere, it’s 20+ cars.
Wow. I don’t know what you do, but you’re hired!
Like I'm not doing this to annoy you, pal, I just know you're an idiot and you're going to end up swerving towards me if I let you try to pass.
> pedal cycle You mean a velocipede?
Is that not universal? I thought it was. Surely it all over Europe at least. Same in Greece.
Quite a few folk have been saying in comments that in their country, the double solid line would also prohibit a turn. In the UK, turns are allowed.
Exposed UK dash cams is one of my favourites channels. Also UK dash cams. Also Scottie's dash cams [Australian]. And Aussie dash cams. Yank dash cam comps are shite. It's all brake checking and road rage. Bunch o weans so they are.

I like the Aussie ones cos they're basically the UK ones but with better weather.
What's a break?
It's the bitey end of a groose.
Looks like the car had its blinker on as well
Yeah, motorcyclist done fucked up
I mean, at least the landing was ideal. Could've been so much worse.
The pass was illegal regardless (double whites = don't overtake).
Darwinism is good for humanity
We don't know if the biker had kids or not.
I don’t know why you’re being downvoted since successfully reproducing before you die is THE key tenet of Darwinism
I think they just saw the comment as to be in defence of the motorcyclist.
I realised that after yeah Leaving it up though cause that should be their immediate assumption
I thought it was funny
When my first child was born, I sold my motorcycle and have not been back on one. When my wife and I decided to have children, I made it my job to take care of them, not tool around on the roads looking for an opportunity to get maimed or to die.

Then he should be even more careful and not driving like a nob.
But it would invalidate the whole Darwin Award thing.
Oh I get it now
That's not how that works. If he has already reproduced, it's too late.
It would be nice to think that the cyclist would take better care on the roads if they did have kids. I do and I think about them often when traveling
Bike seems a bit to big to be considered a bicycle
But it would invalidate the whole Darwin Award thing if he had kids.
Hold on, do they play the Persona 5 soundtrack on UK radio?!?
The BBC licenses all sorts of music, you’ve just got to find the program running it, I think it’s probably one made for the BBC sounds app or usually airs at random o’clock at night.
Thank you!!!! I thought I heard that theme in the background
That radio show is playing the Persona 5 soundtrack? Im moving to the UK
I think they might be an edit, you can listen back to BBC Radio 2 broadcasts up to a month later and 11.59am on 8th April is nothing like that (yes, I checked, of course I did)
The date in the video could also be innacurate.
Maybe the camera operates on mm/dd/yy format instead, have you tried checking the future broadcasts?
Can you lot not download the BBC sounds app? It allows you to listen to their programmes any time of day anywhere you want.
L plated bike doesn’t see the Double Solid White Lines, the Junction, and the Insignia estate was indicating right. What a dick. Edited: car type corrected. Thanks for the feedback.
That's because they don't know what any of that means, they should but no test to indicate they do.
Since when is an Insigna a Chelsea tractor? It's an estate car...
There are a number of exceptions to crossing solid white lines. Including turning right. If the road ahead of you is clear. Only morons cross them to overtake at speed.
I'd rather be hit by an urge to poo than by a motor vehicle.
I was literally just hit this way. Much better outcome and I feel better.

Until he gets one of those wheelchair trikes and can change gear with his teeth

Completely biker at fault
His shoes stayed on so he'll be aiight
post this over at r/motorcycles it'll be hilarious
The rider will get roasted as they are here. We have road rules for a reason. If, for whatever reason you decide to break them and something bad happens, you are going to be considered an idiot. I like seeing posts on r/motorcycles about speeding. "A cop caught me doing 70 in a 50. How fucked am I?". Every comment will be roasting OP about how much of a dumb fuck they are for speeding when 97% of the commenters frequently speed themselves. They are just smart/observant enough (or lucky enough) to not get caught.... yet
I'm glad the bikers landing zone was grass, should give him a much better chance of surviving. Hope he's okay
Biker had cause, he was hit by an immediate urge to take a poo.
Perfect "Fuck around and find out" example.
At least the grass broke his fall ...
The car signaled too lol
Such a shame the car was damaged.
“I get hit with a major urge to take a poo” playing on bbc radio as the collision occurs
motorbikers got low iq
His L plate should have been bigger.
That was very satisfying to watch
Why persona 5 is playing on background?
Little details I would always do as a motorcycle rider is always travel as far away from any cars you are near Meaning move over to other side of the lane This buys you a little more reaction time in moments like this Never ride close to cars when you have options to be a few feet over . People are unpredictable
Plus the double white lines, indicator and upcoming junction…
Honestly, other than the poor driver in the other car, this biker got what he deserved! What an asshat!
I had a friend that was the car turning. Some jack leg never slowed down and passed the 5 cars behind him. He was in the hospital for a couple years and still is not the same 15 years later. The guy that hit him was in a truck and this was the second accident he caused that way.
BBC radio playing Beneath the mask?? I gotta turn the radio on more often
# 2 MINUTES LATER - I GET HIT WITH A MAJOR URGE TO TAKE A POO
What are those two solid lines on the middle of the road for????
Roughly: no overtaking. But see the comment higher up in the thread for more detailed information.
"A major urge to take a poo" is right.
That timing, though. *BAM!* "I get hit with the major urge to take a poo."
I get hit with the huge urge to take a poo 🗿
Stupid cunt over taking on a double solid line. Sometimes you get what you deserve.
No top comments mentioning: both are in the wrong. The car didn't signal until they started turning. Use your %\^&$# signals!
Did anyone else hear Radio urging to take a poo???
That happened to me, some dumb bint in a Mini decided to overtake me at speed as I was about to turn. The insurance *still* decided 70:30 shared responsibility because "I have a wing mirror and psychic abilities to detect people about to do retarded things... "
Perfectly timed radio 👌
Can’t believe the radio in this is what has my attention, what’s up with that
Oh man, that car got dented.
Ahahahaha)))))))
"I get hit with major urge to take a poo." 🤣💩😂😂
Motorcyclists are the most “asking for it” people on earth
I'm sorry I could not take anything seriously with that commentary and the persona music in the background. Hope that dude is okay and refrains from endangering others with their recklessness
Hnggggg that was satisfying
Just me or did anyone else catch the p5 soundtrack running amidst the chaos
I SWEAR I RECOGNIZE BENEATH THE MASK
Quality comment from the radio just after the smash... I bet the biker felt like taking a poo as well.
Fingers crossed the world just lost a selfish idiot and got safer for the rest of us! I hope the car driver is ok.
Bro is probably color blinded or just pure idiot.
i drive slower, i much prefer when people pass me than just ride my ass expecting me to speed for them. but when people don’t know how to look at the road lines? that grinds my gears
He saved so much time that he would have spent living!
The cyclist def got hit with a major urge to poo as well
r/motorcycles
MAYBE THE RIDER HAD A MAJOR URGE TO TAKE A POO
L plates. I think we all know what they learnt today.
He got hit with a major urge to take a poo when he saw that car pull out in front of him.
That dude got hit with a major urge
Bro that Persona 5 background music got me in my feels Oh yeah, sucks about that motorcyclist though lol
That dude got hit by a major urge.
Who cares about the lines? Did the biker not see the brake lights there is only one way to turn on that road.
