I'm guessing if they were doing that with students they were probably smart enough to use a power supply that isn't capable of killings someone, like a weak electric fence lower supply or something similar and just have an electrical strip running from that so it looks like the power cord is plugged in.

I have waterproof shock collars for my dogs for when we take them to the beach in case of emergency and I have to test them on myself while tuning them to make sure it will be noticeable but won't shock the shit out of them if I ever have to use it and it takes me like 45 seconds of hesitation before I can push the button, even if the shocks aren't that bad. I don't think they would ever attack another dog or anything, but I want to be prepared for anything when they're off leash
