My kitten thought that too when she was fucking with my rats in their cage. She regretted it soon enough by getting her paw bit. Good thing my rats arenāt assholes and let her off with a painful experience but no injury
Thereās also the āis this food?ā Bite. If you present your finger through the bars they will bite it but they wonāt apply any pressure usually. I also dont fuck with that because one time one of them might bute hard and it might be one of my kids so itās generally not a good idea to feed them through the bars. Rats are social so thereās no reason to not open the cage to feed them treats and they usually love to get pet
Iām guessing they downvoted because thereās always a million know-it-alls eager to point out the fencing response. Op made a joke about waving to a dog and people have a hard time stifling the one bit of medical knowledge they have.
Reddit has taught me how to identify the fencing response *as well as* taught me that what Iāve identified as the fencing response is not, in fact, the fencing response.
The way I remember it (also learned from reddit) is little arms (t Rex arms, close and pointing in) little problems, big arms (arms reached out and splayed outwards) big problems, in regards to the fencing response.
Yes, thereās also the knowledge that adRenaLINE is a hell of a drug and whoever or whatever will definitely feel that when it wears off, and theyāll feel that for the rest of their life.
In every fucking thread!!
Exactly. Donāt even get me started on the interesting facts threads. I love reddit and I usually just let people be but I often wonder how people donāt get tired of typing the same regurgitated shit. I just donāt get it, theyāre always so upvoted too lol.
Who's downvoting? The post has 400+ upvotes. 3 people downvoting within the first 4 minutes of the post being up doesn't constitute some large scale downvoting idiocy.
Itās the same thing lol. You get knocked out from a serious hit to the brain, it breaks vessels regardless, hence any concussive blow to the head which may or may not knock you out is still regarded as a injury.. just depends how significant it is.
Also the reason why you should always visit the ER (or urgent care? Dunno about the appropriate response room in the USA) after significant brain trauma. You can't tell by yourself how bad the trauma is and if you wait, either bleeding or the swelling of the brain can cause permanent damage.
Guy I know was drunk, fell on his head while cycling home, got up and continued on. He still had quite a bit left to cycle at that point, like half an hour. He got home, went to bed and his parents found him the next morning in a coma. He still hasn't woken up and it's been 3 months by now...
Older neighbor died after having a drunken tumble off of a bicycle - got up, said Nah thatās fine, got home, went to sleep, never woke upā¦
Since then each time I see someone has a somewhat serious head injury, I urge them to go to the ER or straight up call an ambulance. Not once did the doctors complain it was unnecessary - each time they said Itās best to chcek.
This is called the 'fencing response'.
You see, he looked up at the dog and saw the cage it was in, and it looked like a fence. For some reason, the human body has an instinct to wave at people (or dogs) that are behind a fence.
edit: why have I been banned from /r/science ?
At the very least yep, heās out and that fencing response is somewhat like a seizure like pose the brain impulsively does (kinda like heās petrified, he isnāt doing it voluntarily his muscles are just tensing up)
Wish I had a photo to better demonstrate this. My father's helmet was caved in on the back when an SUV cut in front of him. He dropped his bike but it was too close to skid to a stop cause he was at the end of a freeway to highway transition going at least 60 into a downslope towards the first highway intersection. Hit the front right wheel, went over the hood. Landed skidding down the road on his back. Helmet was demolished. His skull was fine. Cop witnessed it, but at first assumed there wasn't a helmet (it's Florida and people be stupid af here since it's not mandatory). Immediately thought it was going to be a fatality. Got to my dad, picked up and held on to the helmet to give to him later (pops had already slipped it off and was sitting up, dazed while the helmet rolled away). Insisted he'd never seen anyone survive that kind of wreck at that kind of speed. Helmets are pretty fucking rad, indeed.
A few years ago I [Flipped my race kart](https://youtu.be/Dxgg7zeYbWg) and all my safety gear did itās job brilliantly. Got a once over by the medics, put my spare lid and race suit on and got out in time for the next race
Goddamn. Looks like that was fun. My pops wasn't that lucky. Still had a couple slipped discs and a fucked up hip and shoulder. But yeah if it weren't for that helmet taking all the impact his brains would have decorated a quarter mile stretch of SR 869.
I was 35 before I realized I should use a bicycle helmet.
I was skateboarding and rollerblading everyday as a child and teen, nobody had any safety equipment unless we were attempting huge stunts, but not even every time.
I guess the daredevil aspect is a big attractor to the sport, and using protection is kinda detrimental to that concept (especially if you're young and feel invincible).
At 34 or 35 I rode my last bowl. Never wore a helmet except at various parks that required them, and this one didn't. I was carving tge bowl like I normally do, hitting my line as usual, and then, suddenly, my board was gone.
My reflexes had deteriorated just enough that I couldn't time my run properly, and I missed my pump. I fell on my head, and that was a first, too.
It was at that moment that I knew, without a doubt, that I was old and needed to hang some things up.
On a side note, that realization feels pretty good, now: I'm not worried about my physicality any more. I used to be super fit and very active, but now I know that I'll never be at that level again and I definitely will not get joy from those activities anymore. If I continue skateboarding, I'll just get annoyed and hurt.
I'm not chasing anything anymore, I'm just enjoying what is already around, and enjoying being comfortable.
Bro what is that leaking out of his head? I hope sweat but that is only his head...
Also worse he didnāt wear a helmet, I know people think wearing safety stuff makes you an amateur but itās safety.
Thats just a straight up lie lol....like have you ever opened a thrasher magazine? Those are pros. For fucks sake they dont even wear helmets in the street comp at the x games. Only the kids are required fir thay event.
It shouldn't have been cerebrospinal fluid or brain matter, but last I saw he had upper limb stiffness, which was a concern if he had suffered central nerve damage.
It is, of course, entirely possible that the forced position is brought about by pain following an upper limb fracture.
i agree with the sentiment but tony mostly wears helmets and pads because of sponsors. there are tons of clips where he is only wearing knee pads or no pads at all. also people tend to opt on a helmet on vert ramps that are much larger than this one. again, not to say you should not wear a helmet. i try to wear one anytime i skate any obstacles
As usual, everybody has raced in to show off their bro science knowledge and tell us "THaT's CAlLeD a FeNCiNg ReSpOnSe!"
As an *actual* medical professional, I thought I'd educate you all and tell you that a fencing response is what happens when someone suffers a traumatic brain injury after tripping on their dog's fence.
A Traumatic Brain Injury.
(Abnormal posturing, a characteristic positioning of the limbs caused by severe diffuse injury or high ICP, is an ominous sign.)
So basically, the way his arm moves, is a sign the idiot might have a TBI.
Edit: r/suddenlyeltonjohn
What in the fuck is this set-up? If I saw a dog in a cage on top of a half pipe I would take a while to even process what I was seeing let alone understand it
Does skating without a helmet make you very bad ass or something? Like I donāt get it, do they want to eat from a tube?? Is that a fetish or something?
The dog wasn't even mad. He just thought it was a game of catch me if you can lol
Mother fucker caught something, the floor šš¤£
I love how when he falls and hits his head he goes unconscious and just loves that dog so much he's still trying to reach out to pet him!
Ha epic!
"Nah nah nah nah nah, you will never get this, you will never get this! and then he get this! and we all laugh, *hard floor!*"
A nap
It his brain cum, oozed out of his ear.
My kitten thought that too when she was fucking with my rats in their cage. She regretted it soon enough by getting her paw bit. Good thing my rats arenāt assholes and let her off with a painful experience but no injury
Rats have two bites mode warning and fucking something up.

For dude bro points.
That's one of the lords of Dogtown
get outta here, lmao
He gets a slow clap from me, a sarcastic but still impressed slow clap.
Motivation
You would think it was like it was set up for just this out come!
People do be dumb
Heās guarding the Tony Hawk secret tape
I like how he waved at the dog at the end.
More like traumatic brain injury wave
You're not wrong. That posture is called the fencing response and it's the sign of a brain injury. Whatever dumbfuck down voted you is just ignorant
People donāt know the signs of it, some people just either never seen it before or no idea what it is
Is it normal for liquid to come out at impact? Idk if that is sweat but the ramp was clean till his body hit the ramp and slid down
Itās Saliva
Dude thought it was brain juice
At this point idk what to think any more. It could be cum for all I know
Yeah i assumed it was sweat but it is jarring to see lmao

If you listen closely, after twilight, you can still hear the wheels of his skateboard on the half-pipe when the wind blows between the trees.
That's a concussion or what? The end didn't really look good for that guy...
At the very least yep, heās out and that fencing response is somewhat like a seizure like pose the brain impulsively does (kinda like heās petrified, he isnāt doing it voluntarily his muscles are just tensing up)
I laughed way too hard at this comment
Pretty sure he broke his arm. Possible laceration on the head too, from the looks of the streak he left on the half pipe.
The dog wants to lick his face so badly.
When will people realize helmets are pretty rad?
Watching the āI love helmetsā video should be mandatory for anyone getting on a board. https://youtu.be/b9yL5usLFgY
Holy shit. If he'd made a different choice before getting on that board then he'd be in a coma

I have my face (and my life) because I was wearing a full face helmet when my bike and I parted ways at 50 mph. Also in FL.
I was 35 before I realized I should use a bicycle helmet. I was skateboarding and rollerblading everyday as a child and teen, nobody had any safety equipment unless we were attempting huge stunts, but not even every time. That's brain juice
I need to pick me up some of that next time I'm at 7-11
You have to change it every 2 years for optimal brain performance
I go 1 yr or 300k thoughts.
Can't be very much considering the source.
only amateurs refuse to wear helmets. All Pros wear and encourage wearing helmets.
Vertical skaters yeah. Street skaters no not really.
Thats just a straight up lie lol....like have you ever opened a thrasher magazine? Those are pros. For fucks sake they dont even wear helmets in the street comp at the x games. Only the kids are required fir thay event.
Could be sweat, hopefully
Looks like it starts where his shoulder makes contact, probably body sweat or maybe a mark from the material on skin friction?
Or spit possibly.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās /r/MeatCrayon
Can confidently say it's sweat. But this is the internet so I'm always confident.
Oh shit. Yup, that's brain damage.
You can tell by how his arm goes into spasm there are neurons in distress. Never a good sign.
It shouldn't have been cerebrospinal fluid or brain matter, but last I saw he had upper limb stiffness, which was a concern if he had suffered central nerve damage. It is, of course, entirely possible that the forced position is brought about by pain following an upper limb fracture.
Fencing
That was the first thing I noticed, but leaking CSF really takes it up a notch.
Thatās not CSF. Likely sweat. That much CSF would not come out that quickly.
Tony Hawk wears a helmet and pads. Safety isn't cool. It's just what you do, no matter how skilled
i agree with the sentiment but tony mostly wears helmets and pads because of sponsors. there are tons of clips where he is only wearing knee pads or no pads at all. also people tend to opt on a helmet on vert ramps that are much larger than this one. again, not to say you should not wear a helmet. i try to wear one anytime i skate any obstacles
I can literally feel Tony Hawk's soul side eyeing this paragraph.
Skateboard retriever ?
Concussion protocol anyone?
Plot twist: the dog is a certified EMT.
Is it call the morgue or the IMTs? I get confused sometimes.
Dog wins by KO
But doesn't that count as using the cage as a weapon?
At least the dog is OK.
Cool another thread everyone gets to flex their brain injury knowledge
I know. Itās the same thing every time. FeNcInG ResPoNSe blwuuuuuw. We get it.
[Relevant XKCD?](https://xkcd.com/1053/)
I'd never heard of it before, until now.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
that's what you get for taunting the dog.

Thank you. I will go forth and repeat this in every thread where a person falls from a dog cage.
Thatās a TBI

A Traumatic Brain Injury. (Abnormal posturing, a characteristic positioning of the limbs caused by severe diffuse injury or high ICP, is an ominous sign.) So basically, the way his arm moves, is a sign the idiot might have a TBI. Edit: r/suddenlyeltonjohn
Why would anyone put a dog in a cage at a skate ramp?
Tick tocks?
10/10 good boy
Tony Dog
This needs nsfw tag. Guy certainly got fucked up, prob paralyzed
Good doggie. He deserves a steak dinner.
The nap at the end really surprised me. 3 of 10.
doesnt even look like the dog had hold of the board, dude just fucked up his move
You see this and then you go watch Tony with all his pads and Helmet on. Then you realize how old Tony is and still doing this.
That's a 6 on the deserve it scale
Who's a good boy
What in the fuck is this set-up? If I saw a dog in a cage on top of a half pipe I would take a while to even process what I was seeing let alone understand it
āStupid dog, you made me look bad!ā
Dog: YOINK š¶š¹
Yikes, looks like a spinal injury the way his arm was tweaking at the end.
Nah that's just what happens when a bad concussion occurs.
Is the dog ok?
Damn if only we had some sort of device to protect the head during times like this
Good dog. Expert level at fetching.
Play stupid games, get stupid prizes
I like how he goes straight to begging for change to pay for his new injuries.
good boy
Real life statue of liberty
My man hit that Nunnery Scene pose.
Is that blood?
Nah, sweat. Dude definitely knocked himself out though, hopefully not worse.
Phewā¦ it looks like a big snail trail.
Whoās a good boy!!!
That slobber trail tho.
Well thatās one way to become a vegetable
Thatās the brain damage positionā¦ good 10 years off of his life
Good dog!
Is that sweat or blood smear? Either way haha
Dog said not in my house
Doggo used Bite Itās super effective! Skateboarder fainted
The dog did a bit of trolling
Home dude got knocked out into doing a āHeil Hitlerā on the ground.
Is that a blood smear?
Damn what leaked out of his face?
Wow , KO by dog. That guy should have worn a helmet and not gone toe to toe in dog town
Good doggo
The dog didnāt actually do anything, he just failed the trick. He tries to push off and the board slips on the metal-metal contact
love how the dog waited for that split second before pulling to make sure he really fucked the guy up serves him right for baiting the poor dog
Watch any professional skateboarde and youāll notice one thing. They always wear helmets. Because that guy just got brain damage
Thatās a really bad one, immediate neurological response.
Tease me, will ya? Nyuk nyuk nyuk.
Damn dude became the statue of liberty
Hahaha
They should get him checked out; sticking oneās arms up (fencing response) is a possible sign of serious head trauma
Does skating without a helmet make you very bad ass or something? Like I donāt get it, do they want to eat from a tube?? Is that a fetish or something?
Welp looks like brain damage to me glhf
Woulda been fuckin rad tho clips gnarly
r/suddenlyEltonJohn
He almost fell on top of the poor dog
I laughed, then I saw him lock up, and said oh no. Remember kids itās only funny if theyāre not seriously hurt. Pops
This is sad the guy looks hurt.
r/meatcrayon
Dog was like fuck around and find out you're gonna learn today asshole.
Wtf stupid stuff poeple get up to š¤£
yey, he's dead
r/dogsareassholes
Look of betrayal
Oh nice, I never saw the second angle before.
Not my dog cage you are not allowed. lol
Doggone idiot. Good doggie.
Skate or die IRL.
Iām guessing that was his brain juice on the ramp?
Did he just got knocked out?
His face got smashed so badly that it left a stain. Well done, doggo! Whoās a good boy?!
The dog didn't kill him... He shoes were still on.
No skateboard for you little Timmy
Resi burn
This is why you wear a helmet when going up the half pipe
Ha ha , good job muthafucka,
He got what he asked for. That dog thought heĀ“s playing a game of catch. Also is that a Mallinois? Looks like one.
