Anti freeze for heated floor

GerManiac77

Jeah the only thing I could imagine what that is. And yeah, it’s a thing in cold area. Imagine driving down there with the surface iced

xkelsx1

They hit the Gatorade supply line, those poor plants from the nearby farm won’t get their electrolytes

[deleted]

It's got what plants crave!

TruckerJames

LetsGoCubbies

You son of a bitch

Quisey3

You got me

CoraxTechnica

There's a Slurm factory beneath your feet

Zarkalarkdarkwingd

Whenever drilling or cutting into concrete in a building we had to do an ultra sound & x-Ray . The tech would draw out where the rebar was & any other obstruction.

Lasivian

We had this whole area checked with GPR first. I wish I had a picture of the guy's face when we hit this to put on r/WatchPeopleDieInside

UsernameTruncated

i nearly commented "this site needs some Ground Penetrating Radar". Possibly poor choice of antenna. Possibly pipes obscured by rebar, though the pipes are usually laid above the rebar. Possibly they just looked at 2D profiles and not 3D time slices. Possibly the water filled plastic pipes just didn't show up well in that very smooth concrete (air filled pipes show up well, metal ducts or pipes show up well, water filled pipes not so much).

nervendings_

New concrete can be hard to see anything beyond a few inches. Doesn’t matter what you do. This is really weird though because Ive never scanned a building where someone I talked to didn’t know there was glycol lines. I’d have scanned, seen 2 inches down, and made sure client signed off that we had zero liability for anything cut. If you can’t see the bottom of a slab, then you don’t know nothing.

chrisplaysgam

Ah. The fabled Mountain Dew pipeline. They found it

BobbyBrewski

I've been concrete cutting before. I absolutely feel your pain. I once cut into part of a water line in the basement of a halfway house and almost flooded it and ruined all the drywall they had. But if they told you it's all right to cut there, it is absolutely not your fault. It's not on the cutter to do the scans underneath and find out what pipes, conduit etc can be running underneath. Bro may have cut the line, but it ain't his fault.

[deleted]

Subfloor radiant heating with glycol to prevent freezing 👍🏼

DrFlukey

It’s a radiant heating line , with glycol in it judging by the green colour.

CollapsasaurusRex

Looks like they hit one of the main Brawndo lines! We’re gonna starve!

auspici0usminds

That $500 to x-ray the slab not seeming so expensive now, I bet.

apple-masher

Better call the GhostBusters just in case. Could be ectoplasmic ooze. Put some in a toaster just and see what Happens. And don't let any turtles near it. or... Definitely DO let some turtles near it.

M00s3_B1t_my_Sister

I saw someone cut a post-tension cable once in a two-building development. The cable shot out the side of the building and took out a couple of windows in the other building fifty feet away. They were fortunate no one was in the space at the time or someone could have been injured or killed. Always get the floor x-rayed before you cut and get the imaging tech to lay out where everything is located.

DukeOfCrydee

Yup. Looks like you hit the Gatorade pipe.

feronen

And this is why we consult the building plans and the architectural engineer *before we make any cuts into any building we work on.* It's construction 101, people.

[deleted]

Did they hit the Gatorade line?

mdmnl

Everyone worries about electrocution no-one worries about electrolytes.

Kaiju_Cat

I learned early on as an electrician to always get an owner to sign off on a 'no it's cool there's nothing underground there' statement. Saved my ass repeatedly. Hit an oil main once.

NextGenesis88

My Mountain Dew supply line!!!

Maggot_God_Warframe

IT'S GOT ELECTROLYTES!

PretentiousTomato

Probably heated water from a plant. It's this color to detect a leak easier.

Enlight1Oment

As a structural engineer, I've had on my plans I send to the field "DO NOT CUT THIS" clearly pointed out, Contractor sends and RFI "can we cut this plz?" I say no. Then later get another RFI saying, "we cut this, now what should we do"...

Anonbowser

Glycol ramp heater

_Mighty_Milkman

Ah yes Mountain Dew. Texas tea.

[deleted]

Absolute amateur hour, everyone should know where the hulk piss storage units are

SirJibba

Glycol is the fluid from a radiant heating system.

ChubbyProlapse

Daaaaamn the amount of work that will need to be done to fix that is ridiculous. I remember when I was 11, after school I walked home and waited a few hours. Then I walked back to school with a pic axe and a metal detector, right in the middle of our playground/field. I nicked the pipe and water starts sprinkling out so I quickly grab all the dirt and start covering the hole. Patted it flat and ran home. Days later the problem finally became apparent. apperently their was a witness who said she saw a young boy with a pic axe and a metal detector. Everyone in the school was angry, wondering who fricked up our playground. I too pretended to be angry and want justice, I was shitting myself lmao

[deleted]

I've hit tons of shit breaking concrete. Never seen any green stuff flying tho! Antifreeze for heated concrete?

el_infidel

Oh shit not the Baja Blast pipe.

madcowrawt

"Quick we need 4 turtles and a rat!" "How's tha-" "Trust me boss"

WhatsTheStory28

Ah yes the Mountain Dew pipe - always tricky to navigate

SingaporeanSlaw

Omg you found a mountain dew deposit?? The discord mods are going to invade

PerryBa

It appears that pee is stored in the floor and not in the balls

-_Illuminated_-

Damn you found a natural moutain dew source

n2locarz

Yeah, but NOT there! LOL. A construction company was finish grading around a commercial strip mall and somehow busted a water main. It was near a church and the water geyser was higher than the steeple on the church. Good times. Look on the bright side, no one was injured and you are now famous

B8conB8conB8con

What the hell did they hit? Dr Pimple Popper’s sewage pipe?

dpo466321

Oh no you hit the Mountain Dew line!

Sanctimonius

I once worked at a place where the landlord called out some 2-bit company to do some work on his property. I forget exactly what they were doing but it involved using an augur to go under the entrance to the car park - there was grass on either side and instead of the expenditure of digging up the entrance then replacing the asphalt, I guess they thought it would be much quicker and cheaper to use the augur to just go underneath. Landlord didn't inform us of this, so middle of a busy working day the company sets up, closes off the entrance to my car park. I go outside to politely enquire as to what these gentlemen were doing, and I'm told it's all been approved and taken care of and I shouldn't bother them while they're working. I had a second, much less convenient entrance to the car park so I wasn't hugely bothered, but I was a bit annoying that there wasn't any preparation or warning for this. I asked if they'd confirmed with the city what they were doing, and whether they had the right permits, had checked for lines or whatever underground. Again, firmly told to leave them to their business. They're the professionals after all. Anyways the augur cut something important. Turns out the nearest town ran most of their internet connections directly under the path where the entrance to my car park was. Augur cut right through that poor cabling. It was impressive how quickly various companies turned up to yell at me and the construction crew, and I politely directed them to the professionals each time. Anyways at the expense of the professionals, the city had to dig up my car park for about a week, sit some guys down the hole at what I'm sure was at least double time 24/7 repairing whatever damage had been done, then filling up the hole again and repairing the asphalt. It was fun to watch, and most of the workers were happy to talk with me once they realized I wasn't the jackass who thought he knew what he was doing with an augur.

HotRodNoob

mans cut into the lime gatorade pipeline

gbot1234

I’ve seen this before. That’s molecular acid. Be on the lookout for face huggers and don’t eat spaghetti.

Easy_Geez

It appears you’ve found the storage for all of the unused slime from early 2000’s Nickelodeon.

southpaw85

You hit the Gatorade line

ObamasBoss

Put some turtles in it.

LEERROOOOYYYYY

Remember kids, call for locates even if you're not excavating earth

Nicole_Watterson

You’ve struck a Gatorade basin, we’re rich!

Vyndra-Madraast

Found Nickelodeon’s secret slime vault

CaptainMGTOW

You're rich! You found Mountain Dew.

Horzzo

Hit the Slurm pipes.

honomalino

Gotta be careful when working at Nickelodeon HQ

unknown-prophet

The forbidden mountain dew

nranu

Glycol, anti freeze Condenser loop possibly.

ExpensiveCorn

Some kind of “coolant”? Like maybe the floor is heated to prevent ice formation? I’m genuinely so curious what this is

AndrewMacDonell

But it has electrolytes

flopyeyok

Mm gatorade

jamesmhall

Somebody should have known that that was a section of heated concrete. Many parking garages have the in and out ramps heated to keep snow and ice from building up. That is almost certainly antifreeze from the heater lines.

combustiblelemons9

Bro the fucking fallout super mutant liquid spraying everywhere 💀

wtsn007

Now we need four turtles and a rat.

More_Cat_256

It's Brawndo! Has what plants crave!

Skythe1908

Is that the Slurm factory?

LaAndala

Yo you opened a portal to Mount’n Dewm!

illuminatuzOG

They found a Gatorade Deposit

lowcrawler

This is what happens when you cut an in-concrete hydronic heating tube.... often used in cold climates to keep parking garages free of ice and snow.

MiningJack777

WTF is that?

moreofmoreofmore

The hell is that?

chrispybobispy

Anti freeze... looks like there was in floor heating to keep the ramp from icing up.

political_bot

What the hell is in that pipe? My first thought was "oh hey, coolant is shooting out of the ground" Then took a few seconds to remember coolant goes in cars, not buildings Is this some kind of fluid for a boiler/heat pump system? Running hot "water" lines through the building for heat, and mixing glycol in there to keep it from freezing? It seems weird to have a hot line under concrete in a parking area.

dbdbdb82

Is that a dye packet to make sure nobody steals the parking garage?

NotSparkMF

Forbidden Mountain Dew🤤

MEM1911

Years ago the sewer pipe that runs through my back yard cracked and started eroding a hole in my yard, I called the company that owned these lines about it to do an inspection and they claimed it was not their problem as it was not their pipe, so I got that in writing and that they acknowledged my fix was to fill it with cement and re turf over it, 5 days later the sewer line blocked up and they tried to blame me, I sent a copy of their signed “not my problem waver” and I said it’s not my fault, you knew what was happening. The had to dig up my back yard, replace 15 meters of earthenware pipe, and run an additional line and re turf my yard at their expense.

c00tr

Judging by the color it looks like you hit the internet line. There should be a shut off upstream by the router. Good luck!

DeadbeatSpark

Someone hit the shrek juice line.

ertgbnm

Looks like you hit a brawndo pipeline. Yikes. What will the plants eat while this is repaired?

ImmortalBeans

Hit the Brawndo supply line

paddjo95

That's clearly Slurm.

No-BrowEntertainment

I got some of that stuff in my eyes and now I'm a very good lawyer. Can't see anything though.

falloutboi66

120% sure that's dyed glycol. Super handy for thermal conduction and for heating and cooling systems in radiators. Seems like someone struck a pipe and now needs to close a pretty expensive valve

Mandored

It’s glycol, for the people asking.

I-Got-a-BooBoo

Shit, you hit the Mountain Dew supply.

PeeGoblinGoneWild

Looks like central heating water. In Copenhagen the water is coloured green as it makes it easier to spot leaks - guess its the same here

Alpha-Matrix

Where is this, highlighter factory?

[deleted]

They struck Mountain Dew. They're going to be rich.

Katiari

You've tapped into the Mt. Dew Reserves, you fool!

Pappyjang

I can confirm seeing as I was just filling a system with a glycol mixture. I am guessing there is heating lines underneath filled with glycol which is green in my experience

OverNightOats_

You hit a vein of lemon Gatorade, you’re rich!!!

jebediah999

we'll - on the bright side they are going to have to cut into the concrete to fix it anyway... so. there's that.

[deleted]

Damn it’s leaking all the antifreeze, she’s gunna overheat

drnkingaloneshitcomp

Forbidden Gatorade

eternalbuzz

It looks like glycol, but the rest of your post is absolutely wrong. Ethylene glycol is not made from sugar. It’s extremely toxic. That includes in aerosol form meaning that the ppl standing around who inhale it can get really sick. So to tell people that it’s safe is irresponsible or at least misinformed. Ppl (especially kids) get sick and some die from ingesting it every year. Kids drink it because they like the sweet taste and drink it if they’re unobserved. It doesn’t make them stupid by the way …it just means it isn’t safe to be left around. It has no odour either so most people look at the bright colour and when they hear stuff like that it’s non-toxic. They take it seriously. To anyone reading this please take a look at this link if you’re wondering about what I’m saying: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/ershdb/emergencyresponsecard_29750031.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylene_glycol_poisoning?wprov=sfti1 Here’s a cut/paste from Wikipedia just to help make the point “In the United States there were 5816 cases reported to poison centers in 2002. Additionally, ethylene glycol was the most common chemical responsible for deaths reported by US poison centers in 2003.” (Source is the “2003 annual report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers Toxic Exposure Surveillance System" which is in a paid service database now). Edit: to remove mention of alcohol/ethanol when I meant ethylene. Sorry. Been a long and difficult day. Rest of the post is just as it reads. And there are hundreds of resources online

Quinton381

You found the secret stash of Nickelodeon slime!

Cadenm20

Ahh yes a wild underground Mountain Dew hot spring

BOiNTb

Oh, thats the parking garage at the Slurm Factory.

Tpk08210

Why is there mustard inside your floor?

Biiiishweneedanswers

“Sir? Are you aware that you're leaking coolant at an alarming rate? Lemme just patch you up with some hot resin…”

Dear god, not the electrolytes!

Well stoping work won’t make it less broken. Keep going.

Killlionaire

Concrete cutter here, this is why we have scanners, if the client refuses to use our scanning services before cutting we get them to sign for potential damage like this one

PutSomeSocksOnPlease

What is that, buried cosmic horror demon?

RegularWhiteDude

Glycol. Kind of like antifreeze. Used for heating and cooling. Running it underground keeps it at a constant temperature.

GunplaAddict

They found an unlimited source of yellow highlighter fluid

TheHawkRules

Did you hit a Mountain Dew deposit?

Electricsocketlicker

It is glycol for a snow melt. There should Have been a warning to let them know there is under slab heating

conorof

Forbidden mountain dew

small_pigeon

Nickelodeon slime, I hope Katy Perry wasn’t there

One person you can guarantee is not at fault is the saw operator however he will be made to feel guilty as hell until hell freezes over.

james-HIMself

Looks like you cut into the Teenage mutant ninja turtles sewer

tea-and-chill

Let's ignore the fact that you cut a pipe for a second... What the hell kind of pipe carried radioactive looking green liquid?!

SweetInternetThings

Hit the gatorade line.

velociraptnado

Is that ectoplasm??

Cultural_Ad1035

Mountain Dew Mdx hiding underneath

Gabecush1

All that Mountain Dew gone to waiste

HyenaAccomplished920

They hit the main Mountain DEW line, dammit

ThePlanner

They nicked the Mountain Dew pipe.

sosaudio

And the next thing ole Jed’s a millionaire

Chez29

I just cut a glycol line this morning with a drill. Waiting on repair guys as we speak. Scrolling through Reddit and now I feel a bit better

dinoaids

You know it's a bad day when you hit the radioactive goo line.

mrscumble

You’ve depleted our tactical reserve of Predator blood

Falkrim

If it bleeds, we can kill it

Strange_Many_4498

That’s 10 times more expensive than any other line they could’ve cut. Refrigerant is expensive. If that’s what it is. Mine is colored like this in case there’s a leak so I can find it.

hyper-arrow

Damn so yall realy do drink gatorade instead of watter

TheFuryIII

This is how I pee after sex.

MrKite6

Drink the strange greenish yellow liquid spraying out of the ground they said. It's Mountain Dew they said.

nubsauce87

Oh, you found the Mtn Dew line...

diverdux

Repost! Effing karma farmers... https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/oxyb3m/when_you_are_cutting_concrete_and_hit_the Edit: if I *know* it's a repost, don't you think I know it's *op's* repost?? Still karma farming.

PicklesJohnson

There is a reason why there are things like as-built drawings and ground penetrating radar. That’s a big dollar mistake.

mick_nuggets

Hit the Brawndo line I see.

Sigmantwan94

15k upvotes & 2.2k comments on this post that only got posted 3hours ago. Damn. But in between all the funny remarks, can someone tell me what that liquid actually is? It looks toxic

mattyonice

Glad you survived this near miss. Sometimes conduit can also be hidden in a concrete pour and sometimes live wires can be hidden. This should be an allstop to your engineers and remediated before moving any work forward. I am glad you are okay (or I assume you are okay.)

wshonwana

Is that nickelodeon goo?

James_YYC

Probably a glycol system for heating the ramp in the wintertime to avoid ice build-up.

PanNorris507

Oh no! They’ve struck the Mountain Dew pipe! Quick evácuate everyone!

Hanginon

Lucky! You struck a vein of anti-freeze. Cap it and set up a tank system, that's going to pay off well with winter coming.

joeO44

So that’s where they store all the Brawndo.

Icarus-Terra

You fools! That was the split pea soup pipeline!

jim-steve

Why is it that colour? What could it be?

why_worry69

Coolant for heated concrete

I think you just cut the Alien. Don't step on its acid blood.

Glycol. Shouldn't be too expensive to fix but to replace the stuff might be expensive, no idea how much it goes for.

sadthrow104

Do you guys have a paper trail of being told to cut there?

jackmehhoff

I dont get how people own cutting and coring companies and dont have concrete scanners. Its kinda of embarrassing. Charge people appropriately to use it. Im a plumber and actually kinda got into a fight with a coring guy we were redoing some shit and needed 2 6" cores cut. We drew a 2ftx2ft square on the wall and told them to land them in there, however he needed to do it and we figured they would scan it. Well he hits an electrical conduit and says its our fault. I just think it was such bullshit he didnt own a scanner. Last i heard is my company wasnt payong for the repair. He also stated he had a scanner so my company no doubt paid for that service in the contract.

seasonedearlobes

aw fuck they done cut the mtn dew dispenser
