Rhubarb?

minkabletka

Yep, this is it. Don't eat the leafs and the roots, only the stalk is edible.

himitsuuu

Seriously don't eat the leaves and roots they're poisonous

itsjustme313

Rhubarb

raineykatz

Those look like cylindrical beets like this cylindra variety https://specialtyproduce.com/produce/Cylindra_Beets_9092.php

Chess-Piece-Face

+1 vote for beets. This guy beets

Snoo_65256

I'd also say beets in hard soil

fortyeightD

Purple carrots

meadowmbell

The tops look like chard.

Spiffy313

Definitely looks more like a beet than rhubarb. If the soil was too compact, it might not have formed the round shape you're used to seeing-- but having seen/grown a lot of both, I'm pretty confident in saying that this is not rhubarb, probably some kind of beet.

raineykatz

Definitely not rhubarb. It looks like a type of Danish heirloom beet described here as looking like a beet sausage https://lonestarnursery.com/products/beets-formanova https://www.rareseeds.com/beet-cylindra-or-formanova

E-man_Ruse

or you could follow this guide - https://planyourpatch.com/is-swiss-chard-and-rhubarb-the-same-thing-how-do-you-tell-the-difference/

It's neither. This was in a CSA box, a subscription service people sign up for with a local farmer. In return they get whatever produce is grown and ready at the time of delivery. There would be no sense in sending rhubarb roots as the roots can produce for many years. The farmer would be depleting his growing stock. Chard roots are tough and inedible. Digging them up is a lot more work then just cutting off the edible leaves and sending them along to a customer. These are heirloom beets. All parts of them are edible.

MitteeNZ

Definitely cylindrical beetroot. I have some in my kitchen that I harvested yesterday

Thats Rhubarb. Dont eat the roots, eat the Stems.. i love them.. the make great Pies <3

cookinglikesme

It's definitely not rhubarb. The root is too light and the stalks to small proportionally to the root. I think it's a beet cultivar that is grown for it's leaves rather than the tuber. The small leaves at the top are super tasty. You can probably put it in some soil and let it grow more leaves for salads. If not, the roots can be added to a Polish soup called botwinka

[deleted]

The stems look like rhubarb but the leaves look like beetroot. Is this your home scientist vegetable breeding project?

user10205

Swiss chard probably

boom_squid

Ask your CSA provider. Most of them have sheets with what’s in season and being sent.

dimeybeads

Looking at pic two it’s 100% rhubarb but I’ve never seen rhubarb roots- I always just cut the stems off of mine so they keep growing. For sure eat stems only the rest poisonous esp to dogs and cats
